He is nearly blind and doesn't get out much back in Kansas. I try to take him to different breweries, distilleries, restaurants, and other venues. It is more fun for me when we find a new place neither of us has ever been. Picosos Peanut Company was one of the 22 stops we made during the week. My dad always had a can of these delicious peanuts sitting on his bar. I loved them then. They are still exactly the same. Jim, the buddy who was visiting, was my college roommate and spent many weekends at my parents house drinking at the bar and munching those peanuts. I sent him a few cans for his birthday last year. He wanted to get more at the store, but I told him we were close to the business itself. We stopped in when Gino, a son of the owner, was running both the peanut store and the liquor store nextdoor. He was just as awesome as his mother was when I visited before. They are super friendly people and have a very interesting family history. While telling us interesting tidbits, Gino helped Jim find all the nuts he wanted in bags so that he could carry them through the security check at the airport without worrying about the metal of cans. Since I hadn't had any in a while, I bought four cans to take to my house. The peanuts are hot and spicy. They use the smaller round Spanish peanuts, which I have always thought were crunchier and have more nutty flavor than the regular ones. The actual spice mix that is baked on makes them absolutely perfect for snacking on while drinking a beer. We had a great time talking with Gino. I highly recommend stopping by there. If you do, don't just grab something and go. Take the time to get to know the folks who are working there. You will be charmed by them and want to come back.

I asked for a recommendation and ended up ordering one of their favorites--the Honey Badger. It was delicious and definitely a solid choice. What stood out most to me wasn't even the coffee--it was the atmosphere. The shop felt warm, welcoming, and full of community. There were families and friends catching up, and there was even a dedicated area where kids could play while everyone relaxed. The coffee shop sits above the restaurant below, giving it a cozy, tucked-away feel. After getting my drink, I settled into one of the couches and ended up playing my Nintendo Switch for a few hours. It was one of those rare coffee shops where you feel comfortable lingering without feeling rushed. Overall, if I find myself back in Bandera, I would absolutely stop by again for a coffee and maybe try one of their snacks next time.
