Everything at The Hen's Nest is incredible!! We took our grandchildren here when they were visiting us from California back in September 2025, and they are still talking about it to everyone. I think they are planning their next visit with us around the days & hours The Hen's Nest is open lol. The food is just absolutely delicious and the restaurant employees are super friendly and so sweet. The bathroom is cute and extremely clean, which is very important to me. For as many times as my husband and I have been there we have not even once had a complaint! Everything has always been spot on. I'm seeing a bit of a pendulum of reviews, this establishment is either hated or loved with some in betweens. I loved it, the food was delicious and cooked to perfection. I asked for a soft scramble and that's what I got. The bacon was crispy and the biscuits were soft. Our server was extremely friendly and readily answered our questions and as her time permitted, chatted with us briefly. When we walked in, we were asked if we had a reservation (we didn't), but were sat immediately. The establishment is no frills with a very down home vibe that serves delicious food. I feel if you go often enough, they get to know you and will greet you by name and remember your order. Is it perfect? Based on others reviews (some just seemed like whining), probably not. Was my experience perfect? Very much so, from service, to food, to ambiance, I loved it. Would I return? Absolutely. *no pics because I was starving and forgot to snap some shots* This is small town Texas, you know, that thing that is disappearing very fast because everybody is moving here? Driving back to San Antonio, we decided to stop in for breakfast this morning. If you're ever in the area, do yourself a favor and come inside. It's a must try! The restaurant boats locally sources ingredients, especially locally raised chicken and duck eggs. We entered and were asked if we had a reservation. Nope. Although it was very busy inside, the hostess said she would clear off a table inside, or we could sit outside where one table was ready. We asked to be seated outside and shortly thereafter a waitress came by to take our drink order. The restaurant is very small and was very busy today. Water was brought out and we placed our orders. I went with the two eggs with toast, bacon, and sausage. My handsome date ordered the biscuits and gravy. Our order was brought out shortly thereafter. My eggs were perfectly done, a perfect soft scramble. They were buttery and seasoned perfectly. The toast was thick and crispy it was also deliciously buttery. I enjoyed the meal tremendously. The bacon was nice and crispy and the sausage was even good. I had a bite of the biscuits and gravy and it was also delicious. I normally don't like gravy, but this was on point. Our server was super kind and friendly. She was patient even though they seemed really swamped. I didn't really know what to expect, but I was very happy. Went for mother's day, this is a great little restaurant with a home cooked feel. I had the biscuits and gravy it was fresh and home made. My wife had the Hawaiian honey butter BLT that was absolutely delicious. Our children each had the waffle meal and ate every bite. This is a five star mom and pop restaurant. read more

I love the Jalapeño popper or the Anthony. Eggs, bacon, cheese, jalapeño and cream cheese. Their Chaffles are a treat to discover. I also love how much they make you feel like you're eating with family because of the love and warmth they put into serving you. This was my second time visiting the Hens Nest. My husband and I were originally going to get it to go because we have our 5lb Chihuahua Byrdie with us. When I went in to make an order the gentlemen let me know they do not do to go on the weekend. They were very busy so I understand. I told him we were only doing to go because we had our doggie with us. He said if they are well behaved they can come in. When I told my husband we were both excited and took her little bed with us and put it on one of the chair. It had been a while since I had been there but it seems cozier. Maybe it was the light designs. Quickly people starting asking about Byrdie and our waitress even brought her a treat. We were both very hungry and had some trouble deciding what to get. The eggs are so soft and fluffy and the bacon was crisp and yummy. Everything was delicious. I do wish the waffle was crispier but the flavor of everything was amazing. After our meal we checked out at the little shop next door and I spent so much money on little outfits for Byrdie. Since she is so small even an small usually doesn't fit. I went a little crazy. All in all we had a wonderful time and we can't wait to visit again. read more

It was cowboy Mardi Gras weekend one of the other restaurants on Main Street recommended this place was not crowded at all. We were seated right away. The waiter was very kind. The coffee was very weak. He did offer a French press and did not charge me. That was very kind. Our orders were all wrong. That was very disappointing. We were supposed to get the country potatoes but we all got very cold soup my sister-in-law, who was visiting from California she got the total wrong order and She handled it well but he kept saying that that's what she ordered and we all know that's not what she ordered. Just bringing it to y'all's attention. He needs to slow down a little bit just goes way too fast. read more

This is such a cute little place. Laurel was my server and she was awesome. I had the Gary Plate with 2 eggs, bacon, sausage and fried taters side and it was VERY home-cookin' tasty. Fat, crispy bacon slices and eggs just the way I ordered them. After a motorcycle ride up from San Antonio specifically for Sunday breakfast this hit the spot. The little chunk of chocolate on the plate was a nice touch Oh and the guy standing in the corner quietly playing acoustic country had a great singing voice and was a big surprise. I was optimistic about a good experience but I was put off when I opened the menu to see a page long "sermon" reminding customers to be kind, tip fairly, little extras cost money and will be charged for and on and on and that if i had a problem this might not be my place to eat. at first glance i thought i was about to read some history about the place or the family. I base my reviews first and foremost on quality customer service. I came in before noon on a Friday. I and another gentleman stood there at least 5 minutes and were never greeted. The other gentleman walked out. I took a seat at a large table where the end was not occupied. I read a menu that was left on the table. The young server walked out several times and never looked around the dining room. I even called, "Young man" and waved. He looked up but still did not look to see who was calling. When you are not greeted or acknowledged that is poor customer service. I will never know if this place is good, for I will never return. We stopped here on a Sunday morning at the recommendation of a local resident. Being so early we had no wait and got to chat with the waitress a bit. Her service was super friendly and helpful, but the food stole the show. We got the honey butter grilled cheese and the jalapeño popper sandwich to split/share, and I'm so glad we did.
