I initially liked and trusted my previous dentist at this office, but after they moved, I was scheduled with Dr. Ke (David) Xu. Unfortunately, my experience with him was negative enough that I no longer feel comfortable being treated at this practice. He tries to come across as direct and humorous, but I found the approach unprofessional and uncomfortable. He also seemed more interested in making conversation about my workplace and stocks rather than focusing on the appointment. My main concern, however, was his treatment plan. He recommended a crown for one of my front teeth--an issue another dentist later resolved by simply shaving the tooth slightly, which took only a few minutes and required zero crowns. Dr. Xu also recommended a total of six crowns, which immediately felt like a red flag, especially when he described front-tooth crowns as "jarring" and asked that I pay the full cost of all six upfront in case insurance didn't cover it. My new dentist emphasized preserving natural tooth structure, and that approach fully resolved my problem. Based on my experience, Dr. Xu's recommendations did not align with that philosophy. While I can't speak for the entire office, this encounter left me with concerns about overtreatment. I came to Catonfield Dental with a serious tooth infection that was causing me fever and visible swelling. The dentist took an X-ray, confirmed the infection, and referred me to a root canal specialist -- which was understandable and professionally handled. However, after the specialist told me the tooth needed to be extracted, I returned to Catonfield Dental in pain, still with fever and on antibiotics. What truly upset me was the receptionist's attitude -- she showed zero empathy, was rude, and scheduled my appointment four days later, even though I explained I was in urgent condition. I'm not upset with the dental staff or the referral to the specialist -- but the lack of care and compassion from the front desk was extremely disappointing. While I'm reluctant to leave a one-star review--especially given the excellent care I've received from the dentist--the administrative and front desk experience at this office has been deeply frustrating and unacceptable. I scheduled an appointment over six months ago and received both a call and text to confirm. During the confirmation, I was explicitly told that I would be charged for any last-minute cancellations--a perfectly reasonable policy. However, just minutes after confirming, I received a follow-up call informing me that my appointment was no longer available and asking if I could come 1.5 hours earlier. Given that I arranged childcare around this appointment six months in advance, I was unable to accommodate the abrupt change. I was then told that the next available appointment would be nearly three months later--on August 28th. This level of disorganization is unacceptable, particularly when patients are held to strict cancellation policies while the office makes arbitrary, last-minute changes with no accountability or viable alternatives. To make matters worse, the receptionist I spoke with was unprofessional, disorganized, difficult to understand, and kept me on hold for an excessive amount of time. The lack of courtesy and clarity from the administrative staff does a disservice to the quality care provided by the dentist. I go to doctor Elena. And a special shout out to dental assistant Blanca! I think Dr. Elena is an excellent dentist who pays attention to detail and is very knowledgeable. I have seen some complaints about the front desk and I would agree that experience could definitely be improved. I always find them friendly but some of their workflows could be enhanced. From my perspective, any struggles with the front desk are worth it to get to the excellent care behind the front desk. read more

They operate a misleading hook to get you in. $99 for exam and cleaning but then after you get in, they tell you that the cleaning is another $1500. Definitely stay away. It seems it would be easier to just be honest about it. They refused to really say it in advance and I would have no confidence in an office that has to trick people to come in. I almost forgot to write a review about this place. I am new to the area and needed to find my forever dentist. I came here and they said I needed a ton of work done that I know I didn't need. Reluctantly, I agreed to get some of it done. I had to put a deposit down BEFORE they even ran my insurance to see what was covered and what wasn't...I know that my insurance would've covered most of it and most dental establishments would send a bill afterwards. I called 4 business days prior to my appt and said I needed to move it. I wasn't canceling, just needed to move due to work. They were SO rude and told me they were charging me a fee on top of the deposit I put down. A $50 fee. So before even stepping back into the place I was -$100. Do not waste your time or money. There are other places in the area that do not do this! They will try to get your attention with all their upgraded equipment and fancy office - don't fall for it! read more

The staff is great, and Dr Ma was soo patient with my 6yr old son!! My son wasn't at all afraid, he understood Dr Ma explaining to him about importance of brushing and flossing. Dr Ma is awesome, he did my wisdom teeth extraction and one was impacted and let me tell you, Dr Ma took his time all the while making sure I wasn't in pain, and that I was comfortable! Top notch customer service from the moment I called to schedule the appointment all the way to the day of my appointment. OMG best dental experience ever!!! Needless to say it's been way too long since I've had sufficient dental care, and I'm so glad to have found this office. From the moment I walked in until the time I left, I felt like a VIP! Front desk was great and efficient, Blanca the hygienist is sweet and funny! Dr. Elena is beyond knowledgeable and thorough! I have had the BEST experience here at Catonfield Dental, we drive over an hour just for my appts. I enjoy everyone at this office. Front desk greets me with so much warmth and make your feel like family!!! Dr. Ma is extremely gentle and explains every detail on the procedure he does. My husband hates the dentist. We moved and when he developed an abscess in his gum, I read the great Yelp reviews and decided to give Catonfield a try. I win the wife of the year award. He loved it! Watched Netflix on the big screen during his cleaning and really liked how the doctor explained things in clear and easy to understand language. I don't think I've ever gone to a dental facility and had a great experience from beginning to end! I took my 5 year old for an appointment 7/1/19 which was last minute and they were able to squeeze us in. From the moment we set foot we were greeted and assisted. The staff is great! Blanca assisted us directly before the dentist came in. She is great with kids very kind and explained everything not only to me but my son who was on the chair and panicking. The dentist is very nice as well and definitely gave us a great experience. The facility is very nice and well kept. They definitely look out for their patients! Dr Elena Zakharian is professional and caring and has an awesome staff. The office is welcoming for all ages with comfy couches, space and toys for kiddies, Kuereg coffee and water, huge TV and personal TVs in each treatment room.
