My partner & I are traveling around CO in an RV - we have failed to get into ANY RV shop from Denver all the way to the springs - a 6 month waitlist just to get a basic check up on the RV. Coming down from the sand dunes, our check engine light came on and pulled up to Caton's Auto & we IMMEDIATELY got serviced - they were able to tell us the problems right away without an appointment and we were also able to get a whole diagnostic testing on our RV for any other issues! Turns out all we needed was a oil change, however to think we would've had to wait 6 months just to get serviced was absurd.. Caton's was an absolute life saver on our RV journey! They even filled our windshield wiper fluid for us for free! Highly recommend coming here for your auto needs, fairly priced and friendly + helpful staff! read more

Worst experience I've ever had at a mechanic. We were on a cross-state trip and hundreds of miles from home when the check engine light came on. Stopped at O'Reilly's in Alamosa to have the code checked. Issue was a positioning sensor that affects engine timing, and we were advised not to drive far without having it fixed. They recommended Tim's, and we arrived at the shop just before 11am. They told us their shop was too busy, but to take it to the other shop at 725 Main. We took it there, and were told they could start on it at 1pm. We hung out until then and dropped the car off with them. Book time for the repair was 1.5 to 2 hours. By 3:30pm, I was told they were still working on it. By closing time at 5pm, they still weren't done yet, and when I asked what was going on, the person in the office could not tell me. I walked over to the garage and was met by the same person, who told me he'd just learned that the tech had replaced the wrong part and was still trying to put things back together. At this point I demanded to see the manager, Drew. I was told that he could fix the car in about 45 minute and would come right over. Well, he never showed up, but instead had the car driven to the other location (the one where we had gone initially) to work on it, then had it driven back when it was done. Got the car at 7pm, 6 hours after having dropped it off, having never met or spoke with Drew or received any progress on the repair until I basically began yelling at them. Rental car places were closed, we were checked out of our hotel, and we have my autistic 9 year-old daughter with us, just strolling around Alamosa all day while these idiots try in vain to fix a simple issue. Avoid at all costs. read more

AVOID CATON'S SUPER LUBE AT ALL COST. Last month, my wife took her car to Caton's for an oil change. After the oil change, the car leaked a substantial amount of fluid on our garage. When she took it back for them to fix it, she learned that they had not re-installed the front differential fluid plug. They tried several different plugs before they supposedly found the correct one. In the process, though, they had to re-core the engine because they had cross threaded the plug. The car leaked again after the second trip, causing my wife to have to go back a third time before the leak was "fixed". Caton's also forgot to reinstall the skid plate. Caton's ordered a replacement. Even though it was purchased from the dealership, it is much thinner than the original one. In addition, they only installed about half of the clips, and the ones they did install looked used. I'm fairly certain they took clips from other locations on the underside of the car in order to install the new skid plate. My wife also discovered that they put water in the windshield wiper fluid dispenser rather than the correct fluid needed for November in Alamosa. It's hard to see when you have a sheet of ice on your windshield! A few weeks later, the car started to have transmission issues, so I decided it was time to take a closer look at their work. Here's what I found: * The front differential fluid was dangerously low. It appears they never refilled it following the third trip to Caton's to stop the leak. The fluid they did install appeared to be the wrong kind of fluid for our vehicle. Subaru specifically calls for synthetic gear oil and I believe they used regular conventional gear oil. Very bad. * The "new" differential plug they installed had been ground down (yes, with a grinder!) to make it fit, and they used plumber's tape to stop it from leaking. * There was also a new plug for the oil pan. Caton's never mentioned installing this new plug, and I have no idea if it is magnetic like the original (magnetic plugs keep fine shavings from circulating through the engine with the oil). * Caton's invoice showed that they had replaced the rear differential fluid, but it clearly had never been replaced. I replaced the black differential fluid with new synthetic. Caton's couldn't complete an oil change without permanently damaging our car. AVOID CATON'S SUPER LUBE AT ALL COST. read more

I've created a "Yelp" just to leave this review. Usually I'm not one to make posts or to review, but my goodness. Most frustrating experience in a long time. I came in to get an oil change and get a leak checked. They had told me it was fixed and shouldn't have any leaks, but to bring it back if it started again. 10 minutes later when I get home, my $74 oil change was sitting in the pavement. I came back again and told them, and they said they'd have me in as soon as possible. An hour goes by and no one even looks or talks to me to let me know the status of my car OR THAT IT'S NEARLY ONLY BY APPOINTMENT (I know it's always common courtesy to make an appointment, but I they had told me they'd see me as soon as possible). I waited that time and left my car there from 11-2:30 P.M. just to be told that they haven't even looked at it yet. On my way out telling them I would just take my car, they sat and fought me for another 15 minutes. Originally the owners wife said she'd reimburse nothing, saying "it would need an oil change anyway" when it couldn't hold oil in the first place. After talking for awhile longer, she said she'd reimburse my transmission oil, which turns out I didn't even need when I had pulled up. Finally, she reimbursed me in full only after I talked to them in the front parking lot and got home, hence the two stars. I would have been a happy customer if they simply had it done the first time or even tried to communicate with me so that I knew what the hell was going on. From what I've heard from friends and locals is that this is more of the normal thing, so I don't know why they have such a glowing review. If you shop there, you have a 50/50 chance of your car still being in need of repair OR your car still needing repair, but you won't get lucky and get reimbursed. I'd rather spend my money and get it done right the first time. read more
