So I just discovered Catrina's Mexican Spot in Hawthorne and I'm obsessed. I ordered the enchiladas and oh my God, they were so good. The green sauce is incredibly fresh and flavorful -- the kind that makes you realize how much you've been settling for elsewhere. And the refried black beans? I had never had refried black beans before in my life, and these were hands-down the best beans I've ever eaten. I didn't know beans could hit like that. I cannot wait to order from here again. Good afternoon... We brought our dad and family over for the first time.. Note : food will come out in 20 to 30m . Food Is amazingly delicious no problem. We order birria, 3 plate entry ,ceviche food is amazing.. we recommend it!!!! The waitress was very attentive thank you The reason for the 4 stars is because inside it feels so hot . Just tried Catrina Mexican Spot in Hawthorne and it did NOT disappoint Everything tasted incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The queso fundido was hands down my favorite with the perfectly melted, rich, and so satisfying. Their homemade salsa is a must (seriously could eat it by the spoonful), and the carne asada with bell peppers and cheese was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. If you live in the South Bay , DO NOT SLEEP on this spot. Popped in today for the first time and was blown away with the quality of both the food and the service. This is a small restaurant , however they delivered big flavors, my Enmoladas were delicious , the carnitas were soft and juicy and the mole Encahuatado was really well balanced and perfectly nutty, I loved it. My friend ordered the menudo and really enjoyed it, he said the broth was really good and that it was really filling and fresh. Will be back again soon read more

Honestly, the only thing I liked is the warmth of the waitress who was there that day. As far as food goes, not recommended. Small plates, very spicy , even though we requested mild and simple for expensive restaurant prices. read more

The Baseline: For a Mexican fast casual restaurant the flavors of the food must make use of the prime Mexican ingredients (corn, beans, chiles, rice, cheese, and meats), preparation of sauces/salsas must be fresh, the meal portion size must make me feel full, and service must be efficient. Food: I came in to get a carnitas burrito as a take out experience. The burrito was filled with succulent pork that had a good amount of crisp and tender pull apart meat that had tangy pickled onions mixed in next to the rice and beans. Well wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. Service: Great fast and efficient service. I had my order in less than 10 minutes and the waitress was super friendly. Atmosphere: The table and seating was well arranged, decorated, and the tables were clean. I could come here for a quick sit down experience when I am not rushing and grabbing take out. We have visited several times already and are always satisfied! I am a huge breakfast burrito fan and this place serves delish burritos!!! Salsas are very important to the meal- their red and green are both spectacular. Chilaquiles are savory as well. So far the only drink I've tried is a strawberry mimosa and I could have had 5! I ordered the enchiladas Catrina with chicken and green sauce, and wow. The flavor was incredible; fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients, and the green sauce had just the right amount of heat without overpowering the dish. My husband got the mole negro with chicken, and he hasn't stopped talking about it since. He said it's the best mole he's had in the area, hands down. Deep, rich flavor that really stood out. My wife and I got breakfast burritos to go and the order was perfect and I meant to take pictures, but after the first bites, they didn't last long. I had a chorizo, egg and cheese burrito with hash Oren and guacamole. As big as the burrito was, it was layered perfectly to get a taste of everything with every bite. I have never used the word "delicate" to describe chorizo, but it was delicate and obviously made with love. The best chorizo I have ever had. My wife had the bacon, egg, cheese and breakfast potato burrito and it tasted as good as it looked. She will made 2 meals out of it! We stay down the street whenever we Come to LA and will be back again and again and again! read more

Let me first start off by saying that the service was great! Both people were very attentive. We are a family of 4, two kids and two adults. My kids ordered 1 carne asada taco each and a side of rice and beans to share. The rice and bean portion were very small about 3/4 of a cup, if that. I ordered shrimp tacos and honestly, they weren't very flavorful. I added lots of lime and salt. My husband ordered ceviche and he mentioned it wasn't the best. What disappointed me was that each horchata was $5 and refills are not free. We ended up paying $35 for just drinks (which was just horchata and a canned coke!). In total we paid $103- including tip. I can't justify the hefty bill for a meal that wasn't up to par. I feel really bad leaving a review about this but going out to eat at a small restaurant shouldn't cost that much. I think it would be beneficial to adjust pricing on their menu to better fit their portion sizing. The ceviche for example was $18. read more

Well to start this restaurant was not busy at all and now we know why, after church my family and I were starving and we couldn't make it to our top pick at Zacatecas on Hawthorne so we decided to try this place out.... Huge disappointment, EVERYTHING is spicy, sure we get it Mexican but come on easy with the spice, we asked for Mexican red rice and got served white rice twice???... the portion of the food was ridiculously small, we got out of church so we're starving and to be served so little was wild on top of that the bill came out bigger than the food, they gave us chips and dip on the house and tried to charge us for it?? Mexican owned restaurant. Food was great and restaurant was very clean. Me and my mom came here to try it out. I had the green chicken enchiladas and she had the pozole. I loved that the sauce for the green enchiladas was NOT bitter . My mom really enjoy her pozole. We just wished they had a spicier red sauce ! The host was very nice she answered questions we had, during our meal she came multiple times to check in on us and I really appreciate because she didn't forget about us. Only been open for two months according to the staff and what a good find.. the mole's were on point.. the mole negro and coloradito while similar in appearance, have a distinct flavor. The mole negro has a darker look and smokier flavor while the coloradito is a bit sweeter. The pastor taco was really good and juicy. Super tender as well. They have a lot to choose from as far as the a la cart tacos go. Our waitress was incredibly helpful and patient as we perused the menu. Everything here according to our waitress is made from scratch, and it sure does taste like it. As far as choosing between the meats for the mole I'd stick with the chicken as it has a better flavor, It's white meat as well. The agua frescas were good especially the Jamaica as it was not sweet. As far as the atmosphere here goes it was quite nothing out of the ordinary and the music level was adequate and not obscene. While we came to try the mole they have a variety of items to choose from so you'll have plenty of options. read more

I came in this morning wanting something different from the old Friday routine and came across this place it's cute and roomie, I saw the little menu board outside and they had a breakfast burrito. I went in and they were so welcoming, seemed like a little mom and pop place. They welcomed me in thanking me for coming in! I ordered the breakfast burrito like any other day and had a cute combo drink and burrito for 10 dollars; such a bargain ! They have really good prices considering the area! The menu was simple and very put together with homemade authentic Mexican restaurant, enough food to satisfy any taste buds and they even have dessert! Churros! That was really cool !
