Renovated! ...I wasn't expecting much since many of these places are outdated but upon entering the lobby you could tell it was well maintained, cozy, with a warm inviting vintage decor (not 70s kitschy at all). The new owner happened to be there and was very friendly, my studio room was immaculate. I didn't see any animals like in the other reviews but it is the woods so that's to be expected. I'm looking forward to my next stay.

We had soo much fun at this hotel. We booked the Deluxe Double Room, Courtyard View which had a balcony. We got in around 10pm Friday night & had plans to go snowboarding at Hunter Mountain on Saturday. The host who greeted me when checking in was very nice & told me the bar might still be open if we wanted to have a drink, so we ended up checking it out. We met the bartender Betsy who was a sweetheart, she stayed open for our group to have a few drinks & play pool. The beds/bedding were really comfortable, I slept like a baby. After boarding all day we all took a shower which was nice & hot plus had great water pressure. We went down to the bar to see what to do about ordering food. They had some bar food we could order but we were starving so Betsy suggested to order take out from two brothers down the road. They delivered it right to the hotel bar and we ate it there. We got pizza, burgers and wings. Everything was really good. We hung out at the bar all night. They had great drinks & fun shot specials. They have two pool tables, karaoke and some arcade games. This is where we will always stay anytime we go back to Hunter Mountain! I am sure its great in the summer too. Perfect if you want to hike at Kaaterskill falls!

Our visit was the beginning of October...After what I thought was a poor experience at a $65 a night hotel in Kingston (which I prebooked and wasn't able to refund), I decided I would swing the second night cost and go somewhere that looked promising. The website for the Catskills Mountain Lodge looked very promising. The photos of the single queen room looked perfect and I called and booked, Al, the owner, took my card number and info over the phone and said I was set for the following nights stay. Seeing the room was a huge let down, and I've stayed in Red Ranch Inn (just up the road) for less cost and it was a lot cleaner and updated. When we got there a dude named Daren pulled out his phone and showed me the screen shot of all my card info including the 3 digit code, that Al had sent to him...(we will circle back to this) We found out that the promised WiFi only worked when we were outside by the restaurant...we went to the common area to use it and nothing was Covid safe. Later that night, we asked Daren what's up with the WiFi and he was actually drunk and rude and replied with a sarcastic comment about being in the mountains... I went downstairs to use the WiFi to call my son, Daren stands in front of me (wobbling) without a mask on and starts asking me what I did that day (as I'm on the phone with my kid)...after I hung up, I "coincidentally"received a message from my bank about charges I didn't make...I had to go the rest of my trip without a debit card and dispute the charge... I tried to call the owner the next day. Nothing. Better Business Bureau did hear from me.

    The lobby

I was a little skeptical when I booked this place but was so pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The staff is so friendly and welcoming! It is under new ownership with most of the place being remodeled but you can tell they really care about this place. No liquor license yet but we will for sure be back in the coming years to see what improvements have been made. Very clean with a modern retro vibe.

We enjoyed our overnight stay at Catskills Mountain Lodge, finding it authentic and woodsy. We liked the mid century lobby and the friendly honor system for buying snacks. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. It is pet friendly and has a nice outdoor pool. The outdoor bar and fire pit looked nice, but it rained cars and dogs on our visit so we couldn't take advantage. One negative was the water pressure, which a plumber was on site to fix, plus the restaurant is not open yet under the new owners and the vending machine still empty. They are new owners and we're hiring staff while we were there. If you are looking for a non cookie cutter experience, we recommend. If you are particular, might not be for you. We are a husband and wife with two college age kids in two rooms.

It is quite nice both inside and out (they have a pretty epic backyard) and they are also a boutique hotel apparently, although I didn't see their rooms. Ended up with potato croquettes, wings and the house salad (recommended by the server who was also very good). Enjoyed everything especially the wings. Gorgeous bar with what looked like a LOT of keg taps although I wasn't drinking alcohol that evening so can't comment on that. Found out about it through a friend who dragged me to trivia night and delighted to know that, although in Palenville, it only took a shocking 20 minutes to get there from Kingston? Oh What A Delightful Treat...!!…read more From the moment you walk in, you glean that this restaurant and inn is a very special place. The beautiful dark wood and crackling fireplace create a comfy and elegant ambiance that sets the tone for an unforgettable culinary experience. Our decision to come on a Saturday night was last minute, so the only way to get in was to arrive at 5 pm when they open and sit at the bar. Oh and what a treat and delight that proved to be!! Devon Whittaker, the mixologist, was about to begin a stint at Bard College on a Fulbright Scholarship to study some aspect of the neurosciences. Like Tom Cruise in the movie Cocktail, he dazzled us with his physical artistry and quenched our thirst for delicious drinks both with and without alcohol. It was a true "umbrella" drinker's (me) paradise. The food, exquisitely prepared by Chef Corwin Cave, was understatedly absolutely sublimely delicious. From the liver pate and house special lobster delight appetizer with oh so freshly baked bread, to the just perfectly prepared lamb shank as well as Wagyu beef and fish dish, our taste buds and nasal receptors were stimulated and satisfied to the max. Not to be left out was the wonderful assortment of deserts worth every calorie taken in. Our only regret was in leaving this culinary sanctuary which became tolerable knowing that the restaurant was only a reservation and two hour drive from NYC away...

During our latest visit, we walked in without a reservation, but were greeted warmly and given an accurate wait time. When seated we enjoyed a delicious Pinot Noir WHITE wine, a Honeysuckle cocktail and a plethora of delicious appetizers that we've come to love. Although Ky wasn't our server he made sure to stop by, say hello and send over some delicious seasonal olives. We probably spent 5 hours exploring all over the abandoned zoo, and I'm not sure we covered everything. Almost everything is open, so you can go into the buildings, inside the fences, even inside the cages. It's spooky, but so cool. And since the inn has only five rooms, we hardly saw anyone while we were out there, since you can only explore the property if you're staying there. It's only about 20 minutes to downtown Catskill, where we went to eat both nights, but while you're on the property, it's completely quiet, except for the creepily atmospheric sounds of the gun range down the road.

We stayed in Room 2, which has a private deck (facing the Clove and Sunrise) as well as a jetted tub. At $200 it was also pretty reasonable. We slept great in the queen-sized four-poster bed and very much enjoyed the free WiFi. The owners, Kathy and Sean are wonderful: the perfect balance of helpfulness and aloofness. The property had plenty of amenities and the grounds were lovely. I give it four stars because it's listed as a 5 star resort and I don't feel this is accurate. My overall sense…read moreis that many guests are returning families, for whom Winter Clove Inn holds special nostalgic memories, and they love it here. However, new guests that are expecting a 5-star resort based on Google classification will likely be pretty disappointed. The main Inn is old and charming, but it and the adjacent property buildings are showing their age in a not-so-charming way. For example, two of our five guest rooms in Oak Lodge had broken heat, which the property was certainly aware of as they had placed space heaters in the rooms before our arrival. During our last day, there was no water at all in the Carriage House, so guests could not flush toilets or wash hands, even after bowling! Really basic features you would expect in even a roadside motel, such as tissues in guest rooms, were not provided. Toilet seats that needed replacing are mismatched, with oval seats on square front toilets, and the toilet cover in the main lodge was broken and not repaired during our stay. Despite being "pet-free," blankets smelled like dog. Despite the rustic accommodations, our family created our own fun together. Our reserved table in the dining room was uncomfortably tight for 13 guests, which was continually apparent during the slow food service. The amount of food at each meal was plentiful, but servers were poorly trained as they repeatedly failed to clear place settings from one course before bringing another course, and repeatedly miscounted orders bringing the incorrect number of soups, desserts, etc. Aside from some disappointing low points, such as the embarrassing frozen mixed vegetables being served as the "vegetable of the day," or uncut unripe honeydew wedges served as the fruit option, the meals were basic but acceptable fare.

All I was looking for was a decent place to wash up and sleep, and this motel did the job fine. I just happened to see one of the staff members outside when I pulled in, and she opened up the office so I could check in. I guess the office was already closed otherwise? There was a sign on the office door to knock at the green building down the driveway if there was no one there, so I would have had to do that if I hadn't seen her. (Which wouldn't have been that big deal, probably.) The room and bathroom were clean, even if a bit aged. The bathroom had clean towels and basic toiletries (even disposable toothbrushes) available. There was a small area with a fridge with freezer, microwave, dishes, glasses, mugs, and a coffee maker. I found out the next morning that the coffee condiment bag was probably old because the moisture from the creamer leaked out and fused with the sugar packets. Good thing I didn't really need it. The coffee was pre-portioned out in a zip-lock bag. Not sure how old it was but it tasted fine when I made the coffee. The chain lock on the door was also broken, but the motel was so quiet and not busy that I wasn't worried about someone breaking in. I was also in the room next to the motel owner and door to my room was well-lit, so that also helped. Not sure if I would have felt the same my room was located farther away from there. There was also free wi-fi which was essential because there was pretty much no cellular service (at least on my carrier). Check-out was also super easy - just drop the key in the key drop. I would stay here again, if I needed just the basics.
