This is an average Catskill Mt. facility with its pros and cons. My main gripe and the reason that I will not return there is because of the favoritism shown to the people who completely monopolized the pool, forcing me to wait several hours until they left. It was evident to me that these were not actual guests, but apparently friends of the owner who - I am surmising - must have paid for the privilege. They used it selfishly and with impunity! Three VERY large adults yelling, yelping, jumping into the pool ("Let's do it all at once!") They were completely oblivious to anyone else, and obviously felt entitled to commandeer not only the main pool but the kiddie pool for their exclusive use. It was unfair to an otherwise paying guest to have to wait all day for them to leave. I complained to the Owner (Nina) about it afterward, and she defended them by saying "They are our honored guests, just as you are our honored guest." I did not feel "honored" and I was offended by her lack of concern or apology, since the pool was the main reason I booked there. I even wrote her a letter prior to posting this. I am still very angry about these obnoxious, childish, huge people spoiling my precious enjoyment of the pool and management being OK with it. The following day there was an "issue" with my swimming alone, so I had to wait for an elderly woman to come and monitor me ( I am a certified lifeguard). It was a sham because this person talked on her cell phone the entire time and looked in the opposite direction. Seinfeld episode, anyone? I do understand about NYS laws, but in light of the previous day, it was a double whammy re the pool. I was told I had one of the nicer rooms. It was spacious, clean, plenty of towels and good coffee (though I fortunately had had the foresight of bringing my own half and half). I did find the lighting too dim and was offered a lamp but it never materialized. There was an excellent space for a coatrack but none was built there. I think this was the first motel I'd stayed in with no clothing rack . TV was good and the restaurant next door a fun place. read more

Loved the nice, clean pool. Rooms were dated , but clean. Pleasingly quiet location. The only problem was the mattresses! Mattresses were hard as a board. Please get some new more comfortable mattresses!!! read more

Stayed for 2 nights in the only smoking room there. It was very clean and didn't smell like smokers were there. Rich was OVERLY accommodating and catered to our every whim (more pillows, new linens for bed, extra towels, etc.) and even gave us a brand new deck of cards because it was rainy, overcast & blah both nights). The flies were a pain in the ass (they fly right in as soon as you open your room door), but it's par for the course in the Catskills during the Summer. He promised next visit he'll hook us up with fly paper & a big swatter - lol. Rich is managing the place WELL and showed a room that's been fully re-done (non-smoking). GORGEOUS and worth $109.00 a night. Next time we're gonna smoke outside & book one of the re-done rooms. MY only vice? The A/C filter should have been completely replaced or cleaned well prior to arrival as I came home quite irritated in my throat & nose. This place gets zero stars. We use to stay here as kids and have stayed as adults but over the years it has been sold. These owners do not invest a dime back into improvements. Every time it gets worse and worse and this is the last time we'll be there. We paid for an efficiency the refrigerator was filled with water and mold. We spilled water on the carpet went to wipe it off. The towels, turned black. The alarm clock didn't work I asked for a new one they didn't have one so I asked for a wake up call they couldn't do that. I went to use the phone and it wasn't working, not having a cell phone ( forgot it at home ) I said, what am I supposed to do in an emergency no response. No hot water. Beds ancient. The only plus was clean towels. Don't waste your money. read more

The room I was given had a strong smell of mold. I found the culprit: the dust ruffle in the bed was covered is green fuzzy mold. The shower curtain and rod were on the floor. Air conditioning on high just blew hot air. When I went back to the office to ask for a refund, the man emphatically told me he would give me a "beautiful room for a beautiful lady." I was shown a different room that was more updated and didn't stink. I agreed to stay, but I wish I hadn't. This AC didn't work any better. Towels were dirty. And I don't know exactly how to say this, but the man was weirdly and uncomfortably flirtatious with me in a way that made me feel VERY unsafe. I only needed the room to sleep in so I figured it'd be okay. Later at night, when I returned from my event and after the office had closed, I got locked out of the room. I had to ring the bell and wake him up to let me in. I felt very bad about it and apologized profusely. As soon as he unlocked the door for me, he quickly turned and grabbed me into a hug, which I most definitely did not want. I got inside and triple locked the door as fast as I could. Needless to say, it took me a while to fall asleep and as soon as I woke up, I checked out. Absolutely horrible. My friends flew in for our wedding and we got 2 rooms here for them. One room smelled like mold, had holes in the sheets, was freezing when we entered the room and took a while to heat up. The other room smelled like cigarettes and weed. Beds were super uncomfortable. They tried double charging us. $140/night is an absolute rip off. Don't stay here!! read more

To start, please allow the option, of no stars. That being said, here are some of the pics of the bugs in the bathroom. Curly little hairs in the 2 sinks, some "permanent" dwellers, hanging around... getting drunk and smoking weed. Loud TV and people running track in the room above us... all night. Did I mention ... someone tried to let themselves into our room at 3:30am??!! Oh, and again at 5:30 am. Went on a fly killing spree... loosens up the back a bit. This is ... by far... the worse place we've ever stayed, and trust me, we've been somewhat adventurous and have seen some real dives. I've sent messages to the Moreland have yet to hear back. I'm guessing there not interested in hearing about the issues. A shame... in the heart of the Catskills. So, avoid this place, and have a great time, or give it a shot and create your own adventures. read more

Not fancy but clean. Does need a renovation unless you enjoy the charm. Paneling from the 70's is basically your decor in the rooms. Air conditioning and refrigerators in every room. Has some stuff for kids. Playground and game room. The beds need to be changed out. I frequently wake up with a bit of a stiff back. Compared to other places in the area this place is good. It's all about the rustic feel when you're in this region. (Note: Angela's restaurant next door is really hurting. I avoid going to the restaurant.) For an excellent meal head a few miles west down hearts content road (nearby) until you get to Hartman's Kaffee Haus. Fantastic place for breakfast or lunch. read more

Red Ranch Motel - Front Office - Hotels Near Me - Catskill, New York

I made a reservation for tonight at the Red Ranch Inn via Booking.com today at 11:01am, at 11:06am I called the inn to inquire if they allowed a dog for an extra fee as it wasn't clear from the Booking.com page. They didn't, which is obviously fine, and we asked to cancel. They directed us to Booking.com to cancel, so we put in a formal request at 11:10am. An hour later Booking.com let me know the inn said the only way to cancel would be to pay a cancellation fee of $120 (same cost as the room). I called the inn to ask about the cancellation, and they just told me it was out of their hands and to contact Booking.com. After some more back and forth on the phone it was clear that the Inn made the choice to impose the fee, and both Booking.com & the inn said there was nothing that could be done even though it was an honest mistake that was addressed FIVE MINUTES after booking. I would understand a modest cancellation fee after a longer period of time, as we could have deprived the Inn of business, but it was 5 minutes. I can't comment on the stay here because I won't be staying here tonight, but I can certainly comment on the customer service. This is wholly unreasonable and a very disappointing way to treat potential guests. read more

When we checked in, we were told the motel was fully booked. We were also told we would love our room. What is there to love? The hot water and water pressure in the shower were great, there is a Kleenex tissue dispenser in the wall in the bathroom, and it was nice to have a mini fridge. However, these things did not make up for the VERY dirty state of the room. The air conditioner looks like it has not been cleaned since the 1960s, the dry rotted plastic curtain in the bathroom is splattered with toothpaste and covered with mold/mildew. The corner behind the toilet is filthy. The baseboard heating units are also filthy. We had to wipe down the floor in the bathroom when we arrived because it was so slippery and the towel we used turned black from dirt. The sheets, while seemingly clean, are very worn and limp, and the pillows not very comfortable. So, if you need clean, don't book here! read more

Didn't have the best experience staying here. Fridge didn't work, and had MOLD inside of it and smelled rancid. The room has a weird smell to it, but it's old so go figure. My blanket sheet looked dirty and like it wasn't washed. It had a huge disgusting looked like a lipstick stain on it. I will never stay here again. read more

First of all, please take down the pictures of the game room, as they are misleading. There were only three games when we visited. Not a big deal, though. The playground is nice for kids, the staff is extremely accommodating, the pool and our room were super clean. I noticed the cleaning staff working hard, paying attention to detail. We've stayed here a number of times over the years when we visit the area. It helps to understand that this is an older place, but the price is decent. Staff is very friendly. This last stay was worse than any before. It has gotten to the point that the mattresses are in desperate need of being replaced. They are lob sided and flat. There was noticeable dust and grit on some of the surfaces. Don't think I'll be staying here anymore until I'm certain some improvements have been made. read more

Clean and a wonderful retro hotel. The staff was friendly my room was very tidy and this place is a wonderful throwback to simpler times. The kids loved the playground and we enjoyed the area so much. The only tiny change I would make would be to add a Diet soda option to the vending machine:) read more

My first lodging review. Where do I start. We've been staying at places all over the Hudson Valley while searching for a new area to live. From surprisingly unkempt national chain motels to various locally-owned places. Of the dozen or so places from Kingston to Margaretville to Ticonderoga, this place is by far the best we've been in. We've actually looped back here 2 weeks later to stay again while on the final leg of home hunting in Ulster and Greene counties. Though its on the highway (Route 32), the rooms face at a 90 degree angle to it so the car traffic is not obtrusive at night (and that's with the window wide open. They have a small game room with arcade machines. They have a pool. There is a restaurant next door. And though it's not advertised, a slow-moving part of the Kaaterskill creek is a 30 second hike out the back lawn. It is family run and they seem to run a tight ship. Well maintained all around. Nothing fancy, but a real nice place. No problems. The way things should be. The best affordable choice for the area (and I'm talking 20+ mile radius) read more

My bf and I stayed here for a barn wedding that was taking place nearby - it was really close to the barn (about 7 minutes), parking was really easy, there is free wi fi, and the room was tidy and clean, albeit very outdated in decor. We were on the first floor though (there are two stories to the building) and could hear every squeak and step of the people staying above us who woke up around 7:30 isn am. Yikes! These floors need new carpeting or something STAT. The room is a little cramped for my purposes (I like to work out in my hotel room in the mornings) but I would guess most people wouldn't find this to be a problem. There was soap, shampoo, conditioner, ac but no hair dryer - so if you want to dry your hair make sure you bring your own. The beds were comfortable and sturdy and the rates are decent - if not a little over priced for what you get. Compared to stuff in the area though it's reasonable. I'd recommend if you just need a clean place to lay your head down at night. read more

NO this is not a five-star motel, like, you don't get breakfast brought to your door, but it is cheap and clean and smells good; a very friendly desk attendant let me in at midnight, (i phoned ahead when i was half hour away) and I appreciate a place to rest my body and head. I wanted to wake up in the Catskills, and this is where I landed. I did not take advantage of the tempting swimming pool as I wanted to go out sight seeing as early as possible, but I took a clean shower, got a good night's rest, the AC worked very well, and the little refrigerator in the room was spotless. I recommend getting out early in the morning and heading up the mountain. The Red Ranch Motel is about 5 miles away from the Kaaterskill Falls Trail Head and it is spectacular! read more

The 4 stars are for what it is for the surrounding area. Stayed here for a weekend and was very satisfied. A little pricey for what it is, $85 for 1 night for something thats worth $50. With that aside, the main guy at the front desk was really friendly. The room was clean ( Thank you ). The guy had told us they had just opened the pool for the year and we're the first ones in there. That said, the pool was clean and freeeezing, but that wasn't the motels fault. They also have a small game room, 2 swing sets, ping pong, a pool, ice machines. Overall it's a very simple quiet get away type of place. No complaints, just a little over priced. read more

My fiancé and I found this motel by luck! I believe it's family owned and they are so so nice & accommodating. It was the perfect place for us to stay. The atmosphere is quiet and the room was very clean. The bed and the pillows were comfortable which is a huge plus. If we ever go back I would absolutely return here :) read more

Very dissatisfied with this motel the room was very out dated. Definitely needs tons of remodeling. The linens looked old and dirty. You could tell the sheets on the beds were not changed. I pulled the sheets down and used my own blankets. Had to ask for new pillow cases they were yellow. Shower was very tiny and mirror in the bathroom had green on it. Could not find the remote for TV found it under the bed along with other garbage, bottles, nuts, boxes, and a plastic cup, there was also garbage behind the dresser. If that weren't enough had a drug addict psychopath next to us that kept us awake all night. Would never recommend to anyone. Guy at the front desk decided to stick us with the Drug addicts. Had to be at least 5 of them. Guy next to us was so psychotic he called the cops on himself and said there was a wilderbeast outside. He told the cops as they were leaving that he was going to SHOOT the wilderbeast and leave it on the front steps. He was hallucinating all night. We were scared to even go outside, and that if he had a gun he was going to start shooting and the bullets would come through the thin walls. In the morning we packed because we checked out a day early and as we were packing the car he was staring out the window and was telling us to watch out. When we went to the front desk to check out they guy did not refund us for the night. I did not feel comfortable at this motel and had to take anxiety medicine to go to bed. They guy at the desk should have put us away from the drug addicts being that we had a 9 year old with us. read more

This was the Motel chosen by my geology professor for our class to stay at while on our Sed/Strat trip this October. The rooms are as my classmate referred to them, so out of the 80's and who cares because it's clean, spacious, (our room had three beds as did the boys room next door), family oriented, has a great resturant next door, did I mention clean because it really was, the first Hotel we stayed at in Troy, was not. Clean matters, decor does not. There's a Mini-fridge and a coffee maker, I don't remember if there was a microwave or not, we ate at the restaurant next door. Oh, and topper this place has a SeeSaw!!!!!!. If you're looking for new, lavish or plush, keep looking. If you want a clean place to sleep, eat, and seesaw, while you're out and about in the Catskills, you'll find that here. read more

Stayed at this place last weekend for a local wedding. I would have given it 5 stars if the dude at the front desk weren't so grumpy (from the very first phone call he was grumpy - he didn't even wait until after my friends and I were loud and obnoxious on a Saturday night). We stayed there for a month while the place that we were moving into was available. we were great full because he let us have our dogs there while we were staying there Very grateful for that. so we get settled in and everything and at first he said we would get a microwave in our room since we were staying there for awhile. it wasn't a very big deal at first but here it is 2 weeks later and still nothing. we paid 1600 bucks to stay a full month from the second of may to the second of June. and I had the receipt to prove it. but the guy insisted that we only paid until the 27th of may. So we get a call and said we had to pay a couple of days and we were good until the 9th of June. so we paid an additional 130 dollars to stay until the 9th of June and my fiancé doubled checked the office person while on the phone with her. she said yeah you guys are all set until the 9th. Okay here it is 1030 am on the 3rd of June and we get a call from them saying we have to go get our stuff out of the room because they had booked our room even though the lady said we were good until the 9th. They prefer cash on every transaction so it could be extra money in there pocket and They don't have to put in on their taxes. very sketchy. but anyway my fiancé gets back to the room to get our stuff out and I had the key with me at work. I work an hour away. so she asked the guy that stays there to open the room for her and he gave her an attitude and said that we aren't welcome here and to get our stuff and get out. the guy is very disrespectful. we did everything that he had ask us with the dogs and we cleaned up for them and we hid them so no one would ask questions. so I don't know where this guy got his attitude from but it's very unprofessional. If I could give this place a negative rating I would. dont waste your money going to this place. only if you want a quick shitty night stay. this place is never getting my business again. it's not worth the business stars that it has. f this place!!!! read more

Normally this place would be a 3 star, but compared to the local competition its a 4. The rooms are panelled wood and the bathrooms have avocado green tiling with matching sinks and toilets. That said, the rooms are clean, decently sized, and have cable. read more
