Went here based on others review. My thoughts are as follows. Nothing to look at from the outside, actually drove by it once, inside has some nice decorations but looks like it could use a little freshing up. My first impression was that it was just a little dark in side but I think it was more the colors of the walls, furniture etc.. Ordered Chicken Fried Steak with salad, green beans, mashed potatoes. Salad was fine and blue cheese dressing was good, Main course was delivered and looked magnificent but... Like many Midwestern restaurants the chicken fried steak looked great but was lacking in flavor. The green beans had a hint of sweetness, not sure if that was a local recipe but I did not finish them. Mashed Potatoes (what can you do to Mashed Potatoes?) but again the gravy was very bland, no spice or seasoning. I might go back if I come this way again but really nothing to right home about from my experience and their are plenty of other restaurants in town. read more

I was pretty astonished with the quality of the food here, especially considering some of the reviews. Frankly, I wasn't sure I'd have much of an appetite given that the entire town carries a very distinctive and unappetizing odor, but inside this homey restaurant, the air smelled fine. Service was friendly but slightly indifferent. My stepdaughter had to get up and find her own honey and ketchup and salt, because there wasn't any on our table and we didn't see the waitress quite as often as we would have liked. Fortunately, we had spotted the condiment table on our way to the restroom, so she knew where to look. The kids devoured the warm rolls with butter and honey. My salad was fine; the shredded cheese added a nice touch. The steak was cooked to perfection, perhaps a bit salty, but otherwise flawless. Potato was fine. Okra was all right but not exceptional. A bit bland. I couldn't finish the okra. But I ate the heck out of that steak. read more

Stopped here for dinner and was very pleased. This is NOT a Texas Roadhouse or Golden Corral, just a locally owned & operated steakhouse. We "split" a Ribeye dinner: hubs ordered the dinner & I ordered the split: ribeye comes out on a plate and then we both each had a salad, baked tater & a side plus roll and then we cut steak in half (all for $32, including two ice teas). Salads were freshly made with dressing delivered in a squeeze bottle (wiped down between patrons) so you can control amount. Baked taters were just the right size with butter & sour cream in small containers. Hubs had green beans as side & I had house made coleslaw (very tasty). Steak was about 3/4-inch thick so it's difficult to cook a steak this large to consistent medium rare. Very flavorful steak, maybe a tad more fat than some like, but not an issue for me (?Jack Spratt's wife?). read more

Actually ate there twice in the same day. The food was very good. The dishes were seasoned well, prompt, and had a quite variety of choices. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only issue was that a couple of the sides were unexpectedly sweet (green beans and corn). The environment was nice. They were able to accommodate our large group nicely. The staff was friendly and the food was fine. Bathrooms, carpet, and booths are absolutely FILTHY! Menu was sticky. Flies everywhere! GREAT dinner rolls. Felt like I needed to use a straw for the water......that's never a good feeling. Window blinds were disgusting. Haven't been cleaned in MONTHS. It's obvious, nobody does any cleaning except wiping off the tables. The varnish is worn off the tables. Nothing slides on them. We visited Cattleman's for the first time over a week and a half ago. The drinks were large, however the tables felt sticky and the ceiling fan's and everything around us was in desperate need of a good deep clean...where's Robert Irvine when you need him? The decor was confusing. Mixed with old lady and nostalgic flair is the only way I could describe it. We ordered the chicken fried steak we heard so much about. Eh... it was mediocrity at best. No salt, lack of seasonings in the breading. And a little over priced for the size we recieved. I wish I had taken a picture. Sorry guys. My fried okra was from a bag, and cold when I recieved my dinner. The mashed potatoes were cold as well. Our child's bacon cheeseburger however was great. I would suggest ordering the burger's if you like a chargrilled taste to your burger's. The fries looked and tasted like the bag fries you'd recieve at long John silver's. The burger I believe wa as $8.99. A few times eating through my food I spotted something's that could've been bug legs. ‍ I didn't investigate and just didn't eat them. I suggest that this place thoroughly shuts down one day or two, and cleans up the place. Maybe a quick, fast updated decor chance. I stopped in on 5/29 at 3ish I came from Northern California and I wanted to see how the steaks in Kansas were. I was greeted promptly by my server. I asked for a ice tea and she came with one of the largest cups of ice tea I have ever got in a restaurant before. The restaurant was really nice and clean. I ordered a ribeye medium rare, the steak was super flavorful, moist and tender. By far one of the best steaks I've ever had. The roll they served was warm and delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great steak I also think this would definitely be a great restaurant to bring the family. If I could give them 10 's I would. The back of the menu is dedicated to steak and there is one (sorry forgot...prime rib?), and what we ordered...sirloin for dinner for $19.99. OR if you share it, $5.99 more for the extra plate and sides. It was fair. But sugar on the green beans? Was it Mrs. Dash on the broccoli? Not sure. Maybe they've been watching the cooking channel.... Lots of sandwich, burger, and fried chicken/chicken strip type choices. One of the servers...family owned and run?...was sitting with what appeared to be her entire family which is fine in and of itself, but her teenage son had issues with her that I didn't need to hear across the restaurant. I thought the chicken fried steak was excellent! And the mushrooms too. The slaw was pretty good. I like my slaw a little less "soupy" but it still had a great flavor. Service was just a little slow. Was in Liberal Ks for a week for my job last month and happened to be staying at the hotel next door. Had some really awful Chinese the first night in town so I decided to try out Cattleman's II the next night since it was about 50 feet outside my door. All I can say is FANTASTIC !!! I had the pork chop dinner that night,with fried okra and a loaded baked potato. Everything was delicious . The iced tea was very good as well. When you travel as much as I do you appreciate some good quality home cooking when you find it. I enjoyed their food so much I ate there the next 3 nights and for lunch on my last day. Everything I had was cooked to perfection and you could tell it was made from scratch. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. That week I tried the meat loaf, chicken dinner special and the homemade enchilada special for lunch. Wait staff were all very friendly and fast. Came in and almost ordered the BBQ chicken over rice but changed to a Philly cheese steak thinking I'd "play it safe"! Either way I'm sure it would have been great. My husband and I were traveling thru Liberal and were told to eat at the cattle mans cafe, which we were glad we did. My husband ordered the chicken fried chicken steak and I had the pot roast that was suggested by the waitress. They were both very tasty and you could have a regular size or a senior size. The staff and waitress was very friendly even though we came in a half hour before they close. I would suggest anytime you're in liberal to stop at the cattlemen's café. It all tasty generic, pre-made, and comes from a box or can. They don't even make their own gravy it comes from a package and that is just depressing to me.
