An hour wait on a Friday evening, I guess is to be expected for a small town's most popular restaurant. I figure this is it. I've never experienced an hour wait in Danville, anywhere else. Luckily, we didn't wait that long though. We scored a high top table surrounding the bar. There are a few booths in that area as well and they are all on a 'walk up' basis. The salad bar at any Cattleman's Roadhouse is what sets this place apart from the other Roadhouse chains. It's loaded! You can either add it on in addition to a meal or appetizer for an charge, or you can order solely that as your meal. If you add it on as an accompaniment to your meal, be careful and don't over do it. I was only able to take a few bites of my steak by the time it arrived. The steak... their steak is unlike any other. I'm not sure where it comes from, but it's in a league of its own. I've eaten at a handful of CR's and never had a bad steak. Not even a tad bit of fat on their filets or sirloins. This time I ordered the 10 oz. sirloin medium well and it more like medium rare, but it was still great. So why rave about so much but only give 4 stars? The service. Before we scored a table, we sat at two corner seats at the bar. My husband always gets the Wild Bill Ribeye. It is tender and perfectly cooked every time. I like the Pot Roast, also tender and with a tasty sauce, for a thrifty meal. The staff is friendly and efficient, and we rarely have a long wait to be seated. We only have one complaint. I have read several reviews here that mention what we experienced: it is freezing cold in the restaurant. Evidently they don't intend to fix that, so be sure to dress warmly when you go! read more

We are so excited they opened up close to home. We come here about 2 times a month. Always have had excellent services, friendly and fast. It seems a bit bizarre and frankly a little irresponsible to have a health conscious menu option like a salad bar and have only one very nasty (ranch) fat-free dressing available but they seem to be very content with this fact. It is the only salad bar in town if you discount the pretend salad bar at Pizza Inn. So I guess their monopoly status emboldens them. On a positive note their chili was really good. The only other issue we had is it was literally cold enough to hang meat in the restaurant. My wife and I ate there Thursday May 12, 2022. Our server, Kim, was great. My wife got the salad bar and it was wonderful. I got the Cowboy Steak Medium rare with fries. The steak was beautiful and the meat was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was difficult to cut and almost impossible to chew up. I'm not sure what the problem was. I managed to eat half of it but I was very disappointed. We had driven from Berea, which is an hours drive just for this meal. We have eaten here several times and it was always perfect. This is my first visit to Cattleman's Roadhouse, and I had a very enjoyable dinner dining experience. I sat in the bar area, where there was plenty of seating both at the bar and at the booths surrounding the bar. My server, Billy, was excellent. He was very helpful with menu suggestions, as well as very attentive in keeping my drink filled and my bread basket fully stocked. At Billy's suggestion, I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes (both covered in White gravy), and the all-you-can-eat salad bar. The steak had a nice, crispy coating, and the gravy was pure comfort food. The mash was good, and it had the red potato skins incorporated into it. The salad bar is a great deal, as it is only a $2.99 add-on with purchase of an entree (otherwise $8.99 by itself). Nice selection of items at the salad bar, including 2 types of salad greens, numerous toppings and salad dressings, and four stand-alone salads (broccoli salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and corn). I started with a mixed greens salad with a vinaigrette dressing which was tasty. At Billy's recommendation I tried the broccoli salad, and it was very good. On a lark, I scooped up some potato salad, and it was one of the better potato salads I have ever eaten. The dressing was creamy and smoky which I had never had in a potato salad before, but now it is something I'm going to look for from now on. I cannot EVER get enough of their salad bar. I have never been disappointed. I am so happy they modified their salad bar so we can safely continue to enjoy during this current health issue. Cattleman's is the best restaurant in Danville hands down. I have eaten at steak houses in pigeon forge that don't even compare to this place. They have the best rolls and the butter is awesome. I don't understand the people at ALL that are giving this place two stars! This was one of the best meals I have had at a restaurant. The waitress was very friendly and had a great personality. We asked her to surprise us with desert and I have to say that cheesecake was the best I have ever had. Creamy and light. The chef staff takes great pride in their work because it showed through plate presentation as well as my steak. I got the 10 oz ribeye. It was so tender I could have cut it with a fork. Great grill marks and was cooked a perfect medium rare. Only thing I could knock the meal over was the steak needed a little more seasoning. Other than that perfect in every way. Our new favorite. We have been here three times so far and it has been outstanding every time. The service is great, and the food selection is good. The atmosphere is good and the wait is never too long. The smothered chicken, the mac n cheese, and the fries are all exceptionally good. The hand breaded chicken tenders are just ok, I would not order them again. Smothered chicken is perfect though--- has tons of flavor, juicy, and lots of cheese. I wish the serving size of the mac n cheese was larger. The salad bar always looks really good although we have not tried that yet. Today we visited the Danville location and it WAS NOT a pleasant experience. I ordered the Wild Bill ribeye (medium with no seasoning) with fries and salad bar. My steak came to me well done and cut open which is the sure sign of a very inexperienced cook. Bordering on a hockey puck. The flavor wasn't bad but it was DRY as a popcorn fart. My wife got the pork chops and one of the chops was swimming in grease. Not good. Salad bar was fresh and delicious as always. Service was ok but not great. This is one of my favorite places to eat since moving to Kentucky. Right now they are still fighting to stay open. Yesterday I stopped by and picked up a steak sandwich and a side salad. The food was just as good as ever. The managers are doing all the cooking and walking your food out to your car when you make an order. They have had to lay off all their staff. This is a hard time for everyone. If you have a chance and you want a really good meal, call them up and order something to go. You won't regret it. The prices are fantastic, the food is exceptional and they are just as nice as they ever were. I will be going there every Friday from now on. Worst place in Danville, steaks are usually cold. But that is not the reason I'm writing this. Me and my fiance got there, ordered a beer and then got our entrees to go. Well some friends showed up drunk and ordered no food. Well after 20 min of the waitress Levin checking on us, I went up and ordered me and my lady a new beer. Only to be informed after spending 60 dollars, that we are cut off after a beer with no explanation. I will never step foot in the door again. I've had countless family/business dinners there. Yesterday was our first visit to Cattleman's. Four stars go to the salad bar. It was fresh and fully stocked. We were a party of 7, four of us ordered steaks, two were over done. Everyone ordered medium rare. I made our waiter aware of the steaks and all he said was "it's too late to fix it now". No apologies or anything. I had the prime rib medium rare which should of just melted in my mouth, but it it didn't. At least it came out the way I ordered it.
