Tuesday nights has been our date nights, but since COVID, we have only been out a few times. Tonight, we decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants in Redding. When we got there we were greeted by the host. They have a tent outside but because of the recent rain, the ground and tables were wet. They set up three tables in front of the restaurant under the awning. Though it was cold, my wife and I decided to dine-in. They sat us promptly and set up the propane heater, which really helped as it made our area warmer. Our server, Roxi (nickname), greeted us as soon as we sat down and promptly got our drinks. We ordered the "dinner for two." My wife and I both had the tumble weed onions for the appetizer and the ribeye steak dinner for the main entree. The steaks were cooked just as we have ordered and were seasoned really well (The garden salad was also fresh) . For dessert we had the 'cow pie' brownie, which we had them packed for to go. As always, the food at this specific Cattleman's was great! They got our orders right and we were served promptly. I also want to highlight our server Roxi (I think her full name is Roxanne). Man, she was a champ! We've had good servers at this Cattleman's but she is one of the best servers we've had. She's friendly, fully engaged and really took care of us. In had times as these my wife and I look for opportunities to go out and eat at local restaurants. Whether it's "to go" or sit outside in the cold, we want to do our portion to help our community. With that said, we also make sure we tip generously. Stopped in Redding on our way to Oregon. Decided to give Cattlemen's a shot and very glad we did. Ben our server couldn't have been nicer as was the rest of the staff. In my experience large format chain steakhouse can be hit or miss with more misses. So I was a little weary. The prime rib was as good as I have had anywhere. Lawry's and House of Prime Rib included. This was a welcomed surprise. The lobster was cooked perfectly as was the baked potato. The moon mozzarella was great and fun and the salad that accompanied our meal was fresh, crisp and huge. Im sitting at your bar on a Thursday night and the bartender is Sabrina. I was met with a not so nice attitude, no hello, i asked how her night was going snd her response was.... Its going... then i had to ask her to clean off the bar where i was sitted, something i would have done as soon as i showed up to greet me. Even the servers seem nervous around her. Lots of sorrys??? I bartended for about 15 yrs in a very fast paced irish pub. She didnt say hello or goodbye to anyone while i was here. I ordered tacos and they were not great! The steak was, but the tortillas were wet!! Now theres only me and one other gentleman at the bar. She still hasnt asked how my food was. I love this place normally. But shame on you cattlemen's. The place is mediocre. The service was OK, nothing that stood out. The food was also just OK. It's nice to have an unlimited salad, with a lot of items on it. The bread is pretty good. I ordered the prime rib, and it was not great, very fatty, and just was not good. It felt like the end piece in a way but definitely something I would not order here again. My girlfriend and I are no stranger to Cattlemens. In fact, we make a point to treat ourselves to one meal every road trip we take out of the Bay Area. The menu is always the same, but for some reason, this time around was the BEST experience I've ever had! Our waiter was quick, attentive and exceedingly patient. All nice and good, but the steak was truly earned this review five stars! Usually, my steaks at cattlemens are exactly as expected. Good taste, maybe a little too much smoke flavor here and there, but ultimately satisfying. Maybe the cut of me I got was just extra perfectly cooked, but it's been a long time since I've had a steak so delicious! I come in and tell the waitress how it's been hard to get a seat in Redding when it gets closer to closing and some people seem like they went to close early (true). She tells me she can't serve me and "welcome to Redding" as she walks away and ignored me when I ask for her name. I walk out and tell the rest of the stuff how I've been treated and they all gaslight me and won't tell me her name. Horrible service at this establishment tonight. Came here for a birthday celebration dinner while on vacation in the area. We made a reservation for a Tuesday night at 7:45pm for a party of 10. We came 20 mins early but they still let us in and seated us. For appetizers, we ordered mozzarella moons, artichoke cheese dip, and bacon wrapped shrimp. The mozzarella moons are basically mozzarella sticks but cut in a flat, moon shape. It's fried and comes with marinara sauce for dipping - very cheesey and delicious. The artichoke cheese dip consisted of marinated artichoke hearts, parmesan, provolone and sharp cheddar cheeses all melted together and served with baguette slices for dipping. Also very cheesey, melty, and delicious. The bacon wrapped shrimp came with a grilled skewer of Applewood bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp served with a savory chipotle lime butter sauce. It tasted like how it sounds - bacon and shrimp - but nothing really stood out to me. For entrees, I got the rustler ribeye steak and my boyfriend got the New York steak and shrimp. Each entree comes with unlimited salad, sourdough bread, and a side of fries (can upgrade to garlic), mashed potatoes, baked potato, rice, or beans. The rustler ribeye steak is a 14 oz. boneless cut of very marbled beef. It is topped with fried shoe string onions. I had my steak cooked medium and it was perfect. It was perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of pinkness in the center. For my side, I got mashed potatoes which were just okay. I did like how they were made with real potatoes and not just instant/powdered. The NY steak and shrimp came with a 14 oz. New York steak with five jumbo shrimp prepared any way you like (bacon, grilled, shrimp scampi...) and served with steamed broccoli and cauliflower. My boyfriend had his steak cooked medium rare but it was more cooked than my medium steak. It wasn't as seasoned and not as tasty as the ribeye. He ordered the shrimp grilled and it was also cooked a bit more than we liked so it was a little tough. For birthdays, they give the birthday person a cowboy hat and sing to them while they present a dessert. We ordered the Pete's pan cookie which is a giant warm cookie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream. Very decadent and perfect for any sweet tooth. Overall, our experience here was great! Service was a little slow at the beginning but our server was so patient with our large group. read more

Love this place place. A good meal at an affordable price. We come here at least four times a year and stay next door at La Quinta so it's an easy choice. Even when crowded, you can sit in the bar instead which is fairly large with tables and get the same menu offered in the dining room. Good selection on the menu and service is always great. The bread is always hot, salad crisp and cold, and the bbq beans are tasty. I usually stick with the steaks either the Pete's Special or rib eye, or a prime rib. Those are fantastic and flavorful. Don't expect high end steak house quality meat, but do expect a very good piece of meat cooked to your liking at a reasonable cost.
