Cave Creek Golf Course - Golf Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

This is a solid course for beginners. My son and I played here on an extremely hot day, and the fairways and greens were in decent shape and it's well maintained. It's a city-run course, which means it's budget-friendly--especially with the city card discount. For two players and a cart, it came out to just over $80, which felt like great value. We did run into a little hiccup with pace of play. The group behind us got frustrated and contacted the manager, who politely asked us to pick up the pace and stay with our group. Totally understandable--we knew we were moving slowly. Despite that, we had a great time. It may not be the top-tier course in Phoenix, but it's affordable, beginner-friendly, and worth checking out. read more

First of all, this is a muni and an amazing course for being one. The course is usually well-maintained, although it's important to consider the grass changes happening. The undulation on the greens is the highlight. It is suitable for players of all skill levels. The practice facility is a highlight of this course. The putting green features impressive slopes for practice, and the range is sufficiently long for safe driver practice. The shop staff are friendly and offer some good deals. read more

First, this is a Muni! You can not expect a lot. Played the course a couple of days after a lot of rain. So yes, it was wet and muddy. But not that bad what I expected. Cave Creek has a lot of dog legs, and blind shots. There are a few water hazards throughout the course. When I first arrived, I really thought it looked like a flat and easy course. Was very surprised how challenging it was at times. You need to play smart, and not play out of your range. Had a fund day, we had an 4-1/2 hour round. Nice muni track in relatively good condition with affordable tee times. My grandson is learning to play and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a course that would have been too difficult for him, so I chose Cave Creek and was very pleased. We both had a very fun day, he hit some nice shots that gave great cause for celebration. Would definitely play here again. read more

I had fun golfing here, but a few things were left to be desired. It had rained heavily a couple days earlier and there were tons of huge puddles and unintentional water hazards. Price seemed fair for what it is, a muni course in pretty good shape. Our cart was super slow and beat up, but it worked. Some of the tee boxes are a little tricky to find. Drinks were reasonable and there was a cart girl out when we were there on a Sunday. The hot dogs in the cantina were tasty at the turn as well. I'll probably go back, it's a sold 3 star course. They have a driving range and putting green as well. read more

The course is now in fabulous condition. In spite of the high traffic, the greens at CCGC are among the best I've played in Maricopa County! My understanding is that the grass on the green of #9 is frequently ruined by methane gas rising from the soil.. as the course was built on top of a landfill. So we just permit ourselves a 2-putt maximum on that green and move on to the back side. The bunkers are ALWAYS in great shape. Just the perfect amount of sand! read more

First of all if you expect the government to have nice things for citizens to enjoy you should probably leave this state as you most likely vote like an idiot. It's a pretty fun municipal course if you ask me and some of my friends. As a low single digit handicap this place does give me a challenge.. 9th green usually sucks but they can't help that it was built on a landfill and the methane that seeps up kills the grass periodically but they try their best to keep it nice.. my only gripe honestly is the range needs to be leveled for the tee area, and paid more attention to as far as maintenance. I can't really think of anything bad to say about the rest of it as again it's a pretty darn good course for the price and the fact that it's run by city of Phoenix.. better then the shotty work they do on the i17 lol read more

They allow large groups to play without carts. Then there was huge backups due to this and then the most annoying part was it was "cart path only" but they don't have a cart path. Legit no cart path at all. It's like a dirt road that doesn't always exist then you randomly will be on a cement path that leads into a bunch of bushes and trees (hole 11). I wish I could have gotten my money back. The only nice the thing about it was there greens and grass was surprisingly well maintained. Better than most courses surprisingly. read more

Dude running the pro-shop was very rude. Was giving me attitude for no reason. I was trying to be polite the whole time and he just was snarky to me and my golf mate. With that said the course is in pretty bad condition, but price was cheap, so the rating wouldn't be this bad. Considering how bad the guy was at the front, i will never come back to this course and will make sure to never recommend this place. read more

If you are a Northern California resident like me and you're looking for someplace to golf in the Phoenix area, what I'm about to say will amaze you. Phoenix residents however, are apparently quite used to this: Okay. I paid for 18 holes for myself and my nephew, a riding cart, rental clubs for said nephew and a dozen golf balls. The entire total came to $89!!! That won't even cover the green fees at most courses around the San Francisco area! All this for a Friday morning tee time. How crazy is that? The course is very straightforward with a Rating/Slope of 71.9/122 from the tips and 68.3/117 from the forward tees. I honestly thought it played a little easier than this, but then again the Arizona Golf Association doesn't have Pebble Beach or Spyglass to view as comparison. There are two forced carry holes but otherwise, any novice should be able to get around this course without wanting to give up after the Front 9. For a muni in the middle of the desert, I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course, the greens and the tee boxes. Brown patches of grass were few and far between. The greens rolled fairly smooth given the amount of play. I can't comment on the pace as I never saw the group in front of us, nor was there ever a group behind us. All in all, it was a fun course at a great price. The caveat of course is the oppressive Arizona heat. Figure out how much water you will need, then bring twice that much. I would reccomend wearing a wide-brim hat, LONG SLEEVE golf shirt and slathering sunscreen on any and every exposed piece of skin. How these people put up with this year round is beyond me. read more

Cave Creek Golf Course - Hole #13 Water Hazard - Golf Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

Played this course today for the first time. Like so many courses in Phoenix in the summer the rough was a bit spotty in places with lots of crab grass. Beyond that, I thought it was lots of fun! I'm a six handicap and played from the blue tees. Condition The fairways were for the most part good and definitely rewarded straight drives with some roll. The rough was thick enough that it held up stray drives and required a little more muscle in the next shot. The traps were in good shape. The greens were a bit long to protect them from the sun and 108 degree temps. Layout The course design is fun. From the back tees the holes are typically a driver and short iron away. The par threes are a good solid iron away. Par fives have just enough going on to make you have to hit two quality shots to be near the green. And, the greens are no joke in terms of shape and undulations. The fact that they are slow right now made them less intimidating, but if they were shorter they would be difficult. We'll definitely go back! I had five birdies and two bogeys and more chances to score that I left out on the course. read more

The gentlemen in the clubhouse were great, cart service hit the spot, the course is an amazing deal for the price. The only reason they aren't getting five stars is the guy working the cantina Sunday July 3rd around early afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed my round at this course due to the fact that I was playing golf in January. Negatives include the lack of care for the rough (all brown and dead) and the fact that they allow golfers to walk. All of this made for a long day playing golf. This is the first time I played here. As a matter of fact, first time I played in Phoenix metro so my basis for comparison is weak. Nevertheless, I thought prices were a bargain and competitive based on my twenty minutes of phone calls prior. The course was "up to par" and challenging. I was in the water a few times. It is too bad, however, that my main takeaway from this golf course was the "old man" at the counter. He was, quite frankly, an ass (this is aside from the oddities of the elderly). My buddy and I are young (around 30), but I am not a fan of someone big-leagueing me if I ask a few questions. Save that for the school yards, not the golf course. With that being said, there are far too many other conveniently reachable and competitively priced golf courses in the Phoenix metro area for me to return here. read more

This is a municipal course with an excellent layout that seems to get undeserved bad reviews because of the scruffiness of the turf and landscape beyond the fairways and greens, along with a lack of "services." I actually like the fact that it doesn't have an operating bar/restaurant, people wanting to wipe your clubs with a dirty rag for a tip, many paved cartpaths, beverage cart, spotless bathrooms, etc. as it seems to keep a lot of the tourists and "once a year" type of golfers away. If you want all that stuff plus a staff that will kiss your rear end, go to some cartball resort course and pay $75-$100+ instead. The course is easy to walk, and walkers get a break on the price. Be advised, the driveway from 19th Street into the parking lot has some serious subtle dips, so don't go flying in at 40mph. read more

This course remains one of the old courses of Phoenix. Still maintained by the City of Phoenix, this course offers every level of golfer some challenges and enjoyments. Not the longest course you will find, it offeres other challenges in the way the course weaves through the Cave Creek Wash. Tee boxes that require drives over the wash. Approaches that are some times blind and many times from unlevel lies. And some challenging greens. You won't be disappointed. My only complaint, and the reason for 4 stars... Phoenix has adopted a more difficult tee time reservation system. Having to call into a central number or reserve through the internet, the City has made it more difficult. But take a minute to get a tee time, you will love the challenge.. read more

Cave Creek is a muni track located in the north central part of Phoenix. Compared to the high end courses in the valley, the green fees are very good. The have a driving range & a putting green. Also on site is a pro shop & cafe. The course layout is decent with a couple holes with large carries off the tee and water comes into play on a number of holes. When I played the fairways were in decent shape. The rough was either dormant or non-existence. Often you will be hitting off hard pan. However, the greens were in great shape, very fast and tough. The greens have a lot of tiers and breaks on every putt. The only real knock on this course is traveling from hole to hole. Their isn't a cart path. So often you are traveling on rutted paths that make for an unpleasant experience. read more

When you're a municipality in an area like Phoenix, your golf courses and recreation sites have to be top notch. With so many course available, choosing a course like Cave Creek means you're looking for a fun, challenging, affordable and convenient course. Cave Creek is located in North Phoenix, about 45 minutes from Sky Harbour airport. It is easily reachable from the I-17 freeway as well as the Loop 101. The clubhouse is fully staffed and the friendly. Let them know if you have any special needs (I needed some help with my hip replacement so they gave me a handicap flag) so I was able to drive my Cart very close to the greens. The course is built on some hilly terrain and many shots have awkward lies. Keep the ball in (or near) the fairway and your approach shots will be much easier. Hahahaha. Yeah. I know. If only the ball would listen to me! Always a great deal is the City Card. Helps with tee time reservations and pricing bit overall, the cost is very affordable. Please give Cave Creek a try!! You won't be disappointed. read more

We patronized Cave Creek three times this pay week, getting in 18 holes and using their driving range. We attempted to play 9 on our third visit, but due to a morning freeze they were running too far behind for our level of play. The pro shop gave us a bucket of balls on that visit to make us feel better for not getting to play and it worked! We enjoyed our round, sure the course isn't pristine, but you get what you pay for and at our level it was fine and not intimidating. We finished in 4 1/2 hrs which is decent. Driving range is used quite a bit and it shows, touch to find a patch of grass, but we made the best of it. We will return next time we are in Phoenix weather permitting! read more

Horrible. The new management has destroyed this golf course. Maintenance crew is non-existant. Greens are Horrible, tee boxes are Horrible, fairways are Horrible. I'm not a genius but you kinda need those things for a golf course. Its Dec. and the course is pathetic. I truly feel sorry for the members that have supported this course for so long to have to play in these conditions when the other city course are so much better. I'd like to thank Jim Cope and Buffy who kept this course in good shape for so many years before they left, you are truly missed. Your replacements are nowhere near your caliber. I also want to thank the new staff and maintenance crew for sucking so bad you made it such an easy decision to never play here again or bring anyone here. Will not play here again. Staff refused to assist us with an intoxicated, obnoxious, and very vulgar golfer in front of us. Literally waited for us on 18 at the green to where we could not finish the hole. Told pro shop, they did nothing. To our surprise, he was waiting for us in the parking lot where he continued his vulgar rant. We exchanged words and told him numerous times to leave us alone; he pulled his cart in front of us and told us to park the "F**king" cart. I retuned our cart and again spoke to the pro shop again. By the time the ranger came to the lot, the jerk was gone. As I drove out of the lot, the guy was apparently still stalking us as he was parked across 19th Ave on a short, dead-end street. I called the police since no one from the course could handle the situation. He left before PD arrival. Bob the manager was contacted today---He literally cared less that two 57 year old women had to endure the abuse on the course he is responsible for. Also, the drunk man is known to the staff at CC; let's see if they do the right thing and 86 him. This is a City course, that will be my next call. read more

I really enjoy this golf course because it is fairly close to me and affordable. It is a public course, so, it isn't in the best of shape all of the time, but overall, it is better than others. Just played it today and the ranger did a good job making sure everyone kept up a good pace. We got done right under 4 hours. Not bad. As it gets closer to summer and the rates drop, finishing that fast becomes quite a challenge with all of the "beginner" golfers coming up, but I think that is the case for most public courses. The course is mostly flat and you get to use your driver a lot. The course difficulty is perfect for my handicap. read more
