Man, was I glad to see the Caveman Truck parked beside the Speakeasy after a few beer samples at the Indiana Tasting Society event! The menu offered a few different foods with multiple choices on sizes (by the ounce), and the lovely hostess taking our order was delightful. We had a really hard time deciding what to get as everything looked reeeeeeally good, but we opted to split the following: *Bacon Hash -- 4 oz for $4 -- well worth it! *Barnyard chili -- 8 oz for $7 -- pricy yet tasty *Jicama Tacos (one chicken guac and one chorizo aioli) -- 2 for $7 -- messy but pretty good *Fudge bites for dessert -- $3 for one -- dark chocolate, peanut butter, banana, sea salt, and applesauce mixed and formed in to a hockey-puck type solid mass. It was not really sweet like I expected, and kind of hard to eat. Probably wouldn't get it again. Next time I will totally get the Brussels Sprouts for myself when not sharing with the hubs :) I would say overall this was a 3 1/2 star experience for me as it was over $20 for 'snacks' and we were still hungry afterwards, but a star bump for using real, quality ingredients. read more

I'm not one to follow dieting trends. The only food bandwagon I hop on involves me putting phenomenal-tasting food into my mouth. Still, I'll support a paleo food truck when the truck has "bacon (greater than) gluten" painted on the side of it. That's one way to get my attention for sure! On our visit my boyfriend and I shared two tacos--one chicken, one chorizo--fried plantains, and the brussel sprouts. I have so many nice things to say about all three. Instead of corn or flour, Caveman Truck uses fresh jicama as a tortilla to hold its protein + slaw + guac/aioli. It's the perfect starchy alternative to cut through the good greasiness of the chorizo. The plantains are not only fried in coconut oil beautifully, but also they are caked with a curry-based seasoning, providing you with a sweet plantain that also has some savory elements to it. The brussel sprouts--my favorite of the three--are fried in coconut oil and topped with an overload of crumbled bacon and a spritz of lime. It's a little bit of fatty, a little bit of zesty and a whole lot of flavor. All three dishes knocked it out of the park. From here on out, I'll be keeping an eye out for the Caveman Truck on the streets of Indy, because I still need to try the highly-praised barnyard chili and bacon hash. If this is how our ancestors ate, then I can't wait to eat the primal way again! read more

I've eaten off of Caveman truck a few times now and can safely say that their chili is one of my all time favorites. Bacon, ground beef, and chicken how can you go wrong with that. I have also tried the bacon has which I wasn't a big fan of but had more to do with the unexpected flavors than how well it was actually made. I also think that, although it's not important to me, it is cool that they fill a paleo void that not many, any?, other places in town fill. read more

We met with Shelby, the owner of Caveman Truck, to discuss catering our wedding and how to keep our price down. He was very helpful with discussing our options and also providing tastings and potion size so we knew what we were getting. We decided to do the buffet style so our guests could choose their own portion size, and the truck would be there to cook more food if necessary. One thing we really liked is that they would not charge us for food that was not taken off the truck. Our total came out to roughly $14 per person with lots of tasty options * Brussel Sprouts w/Pork * Kale Apple Salad * Barnyard Chili * Chicken Lettuce Wrap * Etouffee (without shrimp for the vegetarians) Everything was delicious, healthy, and unique. Most of the food was sourced locally here in Indiana which is nice. We had several guests comment on how much they enjoyed the food. While chilling at the juice bar with the usual crowd of fun loving foodies, a man by the name of Shelby asked if he could pull his food truck up outside to sell for lunch rush. Now loving all things food on wheels, we all agreed he should definitely do so. Little did I know that Shelby didn't have just any old truck, he had the Caveman!! I had been tracking their whereabouts for months from market to market, always hearing of fabulous treats but unable to grab a moment to indulge. Well the food gods saw fit to smile upon me and delivered the to my door! My first order of business was to immediately snag anything with Smoking Goose...I mean it's a Goose guys...you just say yes to that! I wads beyond delighted with a piping hot scoop of sweet potato hash that was speckled with bits of bacon and seared with coconut oil... delicious! My fellow vegan compatriots opted for the sautéed greens and were equally in love with their selection. By far one of the best lunchtime surprises ever! The truck happened to be parked near my work - it was a cold day so we took a chance. I ordered the 8 oz chili and the 8 oz hash. My bf ordered the 8 oz hash and the sweet potato fries. I did not get my hash - I received 2- 8 oz chili's. Bummer. I did try my bf's hash and it had good flavor. He only had 8 oz's so I don't feel like I had enough to actually pass judgement. The chili was pretty tasty. If the truck happened to be outside my building again, I'd probably give it another try. The sweet potato fries were terrible. Mushy and flavorless. Would definitely avoid ordering those. Our order was 30ish dollars for 2. Pretty expensive for the amount of food we actually got. read more

We were excited about trying the bacon hash at this food truck parked right outside of Flat12 Bierworks. We couldn't decide whether to get the 8 or 16 ounce. My friend asked for a taste. He quickly decided 8 ounce. I understood when we got it home, just a block and a half away. I tasted lots of curry and sweet potato, but no bacon at all. We both searched for any sign, but couldn't find any either. Also had a taste of the chili at the employees suggestion that we would be wild for it. I hesitated because the ingredients listed liver, not one of my favorites, but she said we wouldn't even taste it. I tasted it. If you like liver you may love it. I didn't. The caramelized brussel sprouts had a good flavor, but they were not very tender, picked too late it seems and sort of hard and chewy. I'm eating their cauliflower brussel sprouts hash with Smoking Goose bacon on top as I write this review. It is delicious. I was initially skeptical of the truck, which said "Bacon ["greater than" symbol not allowed by Yelp] Gluten" on it, thinking, "That doesn't sound very appetizing." On closer look, I saw that it said "Caveman Truck" and had the hashtag "paleo" on it, and realized what the concept was, and that they had interesting menu offerings. $6 seemed steep for the portion (which appears to be an 8 oz. cup), but the cup was packed down and packed full, and the meal was very filling. We love the Caveman truck. I eat paleo, but my husband and our friends do not. We all love it. So far, we've tried: the chili, the bacon hash, the brussel sprouts, a salad (kale/strawberry vinaigrette), the rocket tacos, the sweet potato fries and a dessert. Everything is amazing! My very favorites being the rocket tacos (I prefer the chicken to the pork, but both are good and the jicama shells are delicious), the brussel sprouts and the strawberry vinaigrette (which was the BEST vinaigrette I've ever tasted). My husband loves the chili. For me, the sweet potato-bacon hash had too much spice, but I don't love spicy food in general. This food is fresh and healthy and delicious. For the quality, the prices are good. There is not a single restaurant in Indy that is gluten-free and dairy-free. It is so wonderful to be able to eat here and not worry about cross-contamination. I am allergic to wheat and dairy and often get sick after eating in restaurants, even when I indicate my allergies. We can't wait to try more things. Update: had the fig salad on 9/5 and the figs were so good...hard to get fresh figs in Indy. Hubbie had the wings and they were good too ...spicy. read more

PALEO food in Indy !! We found this Mobile Paleo heaven via Yelp. Drove to downtown Indianapolis just to try it for lunch. Not cheap, but you can tell his selections are truly home-made, high-quality. Menu is limited and changes from day to day apparently; today there were 2 main entrees to choose from (Chili and Chicken SweetPotato Hash), optional side of greens quick-cooked w/ coconut oil, (OMG they were good), and 2 kinds of paleo cookies (was it 1 coconut and 1 chocolate? I can't remember now sorry) Since there were 2 of us eating, I ordered 1 of each of the above 5 items so we could try them all. $26... like I said not cheap but it is much simpler to eat this healthy, satisfying fare than trying to fix it myself. I know the ingredients are not cheap even if I were to try to make the items-- We have "gone Paleo" and prices for organic paleo foods are on a different level (think Whole Foods Grocery). He sources his ingredients from local organic farms, see info on his FB page. Chili and Hash were excellent, and filling. Had lots of meat in them. Again, the greens were amazing. I'd love to know what seasonings are used on them. The cookies are smallish, and we definitely preferred one flavor over the other. They remind me of the refrigerator-type cookies-- I don't think they were baked, but held together by the ingredients (like chocolate & ground nuts). They were cold, but I don't know if it was because it is winter/frigid temps or if they are kept in a fridge in his truck. His lunch location downtown changes from day to day, with Twitter and Facebook posts to get the exact daily location-- LOL I guess he has to find a parking spot just like the rest of us do. His website shows a calendar of the dinner-hour stops (Cross Fit, & Union Brewing for examples) Nifty paying-- your option for a credit card receipt texted to your smartphone. I certainly hope this is a successful venture, because I look forward to eating this delicious Paleo fare again, but we just never seem to go downtown Indy. He does catering. Hmmm. Finally got to try Caveman Truck today! I shared a 10 oz bacon hash with my boyfriend, and it was very filling for the both of us. It was a solid dish with very nice sweet notes from the sweet potato, but I wish there a little more depth to the flavor. I don't know, maybe it's just me but while it was good, I wasn't blown away by this dish. Unfortunately, they didn't have the chorizo burger I've been hearing so much about. We ate here during the First Friday Food Truck Festival. The food is great, but the service is incredibly slow. I ordered at this truck, waited a few minutes, and then realized that there were a couple other people who had already ordered before me and were waiting for food. So, I left my teenage son to wait for that order and went to the truck next door. Ordered a shrimp kabob and a steak kabob at the second truck. Waited several minutes at the second truck and then received my kabobs. Went back to cave man truck. Ate both kabobs and the rice they came with. Still no food from cave man truck. After a while longer, we did finally get our food. I could easily believe we waited 30 minutes for food. I get that they cook everything to order, but there must be a more efficient process. Our order was three chicken tacos and the fried chips. Everything was tasty, although the tacos are smallish. It was still filling (in fairness I had just eaten two kabobs and my son an order of nachos from another truck) and the portions were fair for the price. I would definitely try this truck again. Oh, one other thing. You need to either get a P.A. speaker or task someone with a strong voice to call out orders when they are ready. Basically the guy in the truck would say a name, and then whoever was nearby would have to repeat it so everyone else could hear it. read more

i am so sad :( i read about the jicama tacos online and have been so excited to try them for lunch... so i ordered two for $7 (the only option today was chorizo, but i eat any kind of meat so that's fine) AND THEY WERE SO TINY!! i wish i would have used my money for a real lunch that would have filled me up, now my stomach is growling while I work. they tasted really good but each taco was literally two small bites so not much to savor :( it looks like i should have got the hash or chili, but i was really looking forward to the alternative tacos. never again! read more

Who knew? Pretty much how I feel. The food I tried was really quite good and interesting. I am not one to follow diets as I love food too much however this food was really interesting. I tried their Bacon Hash, and if there is one thing you try from this truck it should be the Bacon Hash. It was full of flavor and very filling. I also tried their Pumpkin stew and while it was creative I just really wasn't a fan. It tasted good but personally it had too much going on. I felt like I was eating a slightly savory pumpkin pie in stew form. It was too strange for me. It is my opinion that if you haven't tried Paleo food you def. give these guys a try. Hey! In the pre-convention rush for Gencon I was madly searching for Paleo-friendly lunching options while on foot at the con. Not specifically paleo mind you, but more non-standard eating fare from the usual food truck crowd. I happily stumbled onto the Caveman Truck, and after some frantic tweeting and some discussion I made them my lunch, and usually dinner arrangement for the con. Was always pleasantly surprised by the menu, good options that were tasty and free of the heaviness so commonly found in foodtrucks from my experience. Had great service and was always greeted with a hello, heck they even remember who I was by the end of the convention, always a good thing.
