What makes this place so different is the owners have created a menu which goes above and beyond your typical choices. This place is permanently closed now for good reason. Hands down this was the slowest/worst service I've experienced in my life. Took them 30+ min to make a couple of cold bagel sandwiches and didn't acknowledge how ridiculously long it was taking. Owners were checked out. read more

Worth the drive from Rapid! Interesting menu with a lot of healthy and tasty options. I had the kewpie burger, side salad and hubby had a meatball sub. Salad was real lettuce (not prepackaged, no nutritional value salad) with homemade dressing. Burger was very good and sub was the same dough as they use for the pizza- so good! Cute and cozy cafe. If you've been driving a long time and want a comfy couch or seat to not feel like you've been on the road forever, this is a great stop! Husband really liked the biscuits and gravy. Everything bagel with cream cheese exceeded my expectations. There was no one in the parking lot when we pulled up and Yelp said it was closed even though it was supposed to be open for another hour. And thankfully it was open! The ambiance? Sick! Everything is so cool and there's so many gems if you sit around and look! There's plants, a sky light and cool records. The food? Oh my goodness! I go there not even hungry half the time and still devour my food. I've recommended this place to all of my friends and they all enjoy it and keep going back. They have vegetarian stuff (the vegetarian lox is fire!!!) my boyfriend loves the burgers!! And if you ever have the chance to go there and try a pizza get it and try one if the best pizzas of your life! I love the cheese options for fresh mozzarella or shredded! Amazing ! all of it is soooo good! The bagels are good and make great sandwiches too!! The drinks? Local tea and coffee! I don't even really like coffee and it's so good. The teas are so good and they have such great service and remember you drink order if you come in regularly I always get oat or almond milk and they remember most of the time more than I do! Service? Fire! They know and really learn about their products. They practice and experiment with stuff before they put it out and are so dedicated. This is obviously run off passion and it's amazing to hear them talk about it and even better to actually be able to experience it! After a morning of hiking through the canyons, we stopped here on our way to Rapid City. The coffee tasted great, but was a little expensive (one of our oat milk lattes was over $8). One person in our group got a breakfast scramble and noted that there were a good number of bacon fat chunks. The bleu cheese burger, however, was very tasty--it had a bit of a kick to it, but was just the right amount. Overall, it's a quaint little place, but pricey. read more

This place has been here for 4+ years, but the new owners have taken a great place and made it even better! They've changed the name to Caverna, and with that change, made changes to the building to reflect the "cave" vibe. Not only is the coffee amazing, the food is a step up from your normal coffee shop fare. The breakfast burritos are awesome! They offer delicious smash burgers, house-made coleslaw, salsas, sauces, and more! Traveling on I-90? They are a quick stop at Exit 23. There is a convenient drive-they if you're in a hurry, but if you have time, go sit inside and take a minute to enjoy this cozy gem! read more

Locally sourced, fresh, and wonderfully prepared food. Relaxing ambience with locally roasted coffee that hits the palate just right. We're from out of town and had a big party. 2 cent paper plate cost a 10 dollar tip! We were excited to stop for wood fired pizza. Arriving at 3:40, we were the only patrons at the restaurant and we ordered a couple drinks and their margherita pizza to eat out on the patio. They were out of fresh basil as described. The girl informed us she would bring out our drinks and that they close at 4:00. When she brought out our boxed pizza and asked for plates, she said she made it "to go" and refused to give us plates stating again that they are closing soon. (We assume they were too lazy to wash the last two dishes of the day.) We then asked for paper plates and those were unavailable as well. I guess there is a first time for everything and this is the first time we've ever been to a restaurant where they serve food with nothing to eat it off of! The crazy thing is that she thought this was acceptable! Later she made an excuse that they don't have plates for patrons during the rally. Perhaps they view bikers in a different light than other folks. There is a tip jar on the counter and we are typically heavy tippers, especially during the rally to staff that is working extra hard. However, we chose not to reward argumentativeness and laziness at this establishment. As far as the quality of the food; it came out of the oven very fast and was mediocre with chunks of unmelted cheese in the center. Maybe it would have tasted a bit better had we not had to use the box top to eat from. read more

I was back in Sturgis for a visit with my Mom and my family, and I was invited to Mill Iron Coffee House by friends for a coffee and "catch-up" chat. My husband and I loved the place SO MUCH, that we made a second trip to take my mom for brunch. We had the potato and meat pasty...and biscuits and gravy. Both were awesome - home cooking at its finest. After I finished the order of biscuits and gravy, I wanted a second helping (I refrained). The décor is really charming - old formica tables, sofa and arm chairs, quilts and antiques, and a fireplace. If I still lived in the Black Hills, I know this would be a favorite place for coffee, comfort food, and great conversation! read more

Great comfort food in a small town called Whitewood in South Dakota. Menu items are simple like biscuits and gravy, bagels with cream cheese, and their famous "pasties". It's a bready outer crust and filled with choice of filling: ham & egg, steak & potato, and brat & sauerkraut. My friend got the steak and potato and enjoyed it! The history behind these pasties is also interesting. Miners used to come in and eat them and since their hands were so dirty, they'd grab on to the thick crust and eat the rest of it, while throwing the crust away. There was one person there who was the cashier and barista and she was really nice!! I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the Whitewood/north Black Hills area.
