Chocolate-Dipped Gluten-Free WAFFLE Cone!!!!! That right there deserves 10 stars out of 5. And while it could've tasted like cardboard, it didn't. They actually took the time to develop a recipe that works, tastes great, and knocks almost any other waffle cone over on the way to this one. I say "almost" because my mom used to run a gluten-free bakery with an ice cream parlor and she makes the best GF waffle cones hands-down. I mean, I have to say that, right? (Hi, mom! ) All kidding aside, waffle cones are just something I'd given up on ever being able to eat in a public place. And chocolate-dipped? Holy wow. Definitely spring for the chocolate-dipped! And the ice cream was creamy, delicious and you could tell it was homemade. This place is fantastic! Choose your visit wisely, the line is likely to be out to the street! (That is how GOOD this place is!) As soon as you step inside you know you have come to the right place...the smell of homemade waffle cones hits you and the welcoming staff make you feel like you belong (even if you are not from the area!) A fun thing about Leones' is that they have rotating flavors, the day I got to visit they had Lemon Poppyseed so I tried that with a Waffle cone, since they are made there, plus the smell of them being made is super heavenly! I haven't stopped thinking about that double dip since! If I didn't live 4 states away I would probably be there every day! An extra unique thing about Leones' is that they let you "Scoop it Forward." Meaning you can buy someone, anyone, a scoop for their next Visit! How fun is that! AMAZING!! We weren't able to go into the shop (due to covid) but they used a window as their ordering place. While visiting we got their ice cream twice. We tried their vanilla (ordered twice), blackberry lemon, and salted Carmel. Each flavor we tried we absolutely loved! They had some chairs and tables outside but they also had a "green" that was different levels that you could sit in and hang out on while you enjoyed your ice cream. Delicious ice cream! We were staying in town on our South Dakota family vacation and this spot looked so cute from the outside. The ice cream flavors were few but so creative, unique and yummy. They were also giving samples which helped our decisions!! Between our family we ended up getting peanut butter chocolate, iced sugar cookie (vanilla ice cream flavored with almond and bits of sugar cookie and icing mixed in) and the raspberry lemon ice cream which was a true ice cream--not a sorbet. The blackberry lemon was a surprising win-- I got it for my hubby but I ended up liking it as much as my own!! It had a bright flavor and perfectly balanced between the blackberry and lemon. I also loved the iced sugar cookie flavor I ordered. Not too sweet but full of the subtle cookie flavor. Waffle cone was crispy and thin. PB choc was yummy according to my son. They have traditional vanilla for those who like the classics and plenty of sundae toppings, etc. But go for the unique flavors (like Mayan hot chocolate which I would have gotten the second time through!). I tried the Nutcracker ice cream which wasn't what you might think (Christmas flavors?) but it was all kinds of chopped nuts in an almond (as opposed to vanilla) ice cream. So incredibly good!! I've never had anything like it! Friend got orange chocolate speckled I e cream which was, again, totally unique.
