I had my first experience doing a private table/bottle service at Cavo last weekend, and it is SO much more fun than just going as a regular patron. They supply you with a party bus to take you to the venue beforehand which definitely set the energy for the night. Once there, we got escorted up to our table in the upstairs section. It was the perfect mix of comfy & private, but we still had the balcony to dance on over top of the main dance floor. The bottle list was a good mix of options at various price points, and they had good mixers too. The bottle girls & bouncers were all extremely professional & friendly. The music was great. I have no opinion about the nightclub itself because I never went inside. However, the valet experience outside was enough that I would never consider visiting. While we were eating dinner across the street, a valet attendant left a van parked with bright lights shining directly into our table. When I politely asked if the lights could be turned off or the van moved, he responded with a terrible attitude and actually turned the lights even brighter so they were aimed at us. I even said, "Dude... we're just trying to have a nice dinner," but he continued to be rude. If that's how people are treated before they even walk through the door, it's not a business I have any interest in supporting. We attended the Moonlight Fashion Show benefitting the City Music Center of Duquesne University. The place is... probably like every night club... but still let's review. The floor was so sticky that your shoes would be fully stuck while walking. The staff is very uninterested in their jobs. Coat check basically grunted and pointed when asked questions. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the floor really doesn't make food of interest... even though the event had tables of appetizers set out. But honestly, it was too dark to even see what there was. Like I said probably a stereotypical night club, but it was just gross enough to make me happy that I never go lol Probably only fun when drunk and dancing.. but hey that's their genre! read more

Was originally super excited to experience a new club in a different state as we are out of town. We are a group of young hispanic americans and the caucasian male bouncer started speaking to us "in spanish" saying "no bueno" referring to one of our outfits. He continues to go on and says "had to say it in a language you can understand". a club that plays latin music and a group of people visiting a city known for its inclusivity. i'm extremely confused as to why a company would want a bouncer to represent its company like that. read more

I felt like I was being racially discriminated against. I went to cavo in a Halloween costume on 10/26 that included a baseball hat. But when I came up to the bouncer he said I wasn't allowed to wear a baseball cap, so I put it in the basket by the bouncer. I was with someone who was wearing a Cat in the Hat costume BUT they were able to keep their hat on entering Cavo. Once inside, I also asked security at the club about not having a baseball cap and they said baseball caps weren't allowed. I understood why my friend was able to keep their hat on and didn't have a problem with this rule until I saw two Caucasian people wearing baseball caps inside the club. So, i thought that was very unfair as someone who is not Caucasian. Since this is a rule at cavo, it should be enforced for all people regardless of their race. read more

It's a little strange to write a review for a nightclub, because people rate it by their experiences with other individuals, which really isn't the fault of the club (mostly). I'll try to separate experience from the actual club service up front: Cavo itself: 4/5 (note my review excludes alcohol; I didn't buy any cocktails) My experience: 2/5 Arrived there around midnight on a Friday evening and waited about 25 minutes in a line of 40+ people to enter. There is a VIP line, not sure how that works. Bouncers will check your ID and bags, but there's surprisingly no cover. Entering Cavo, you're greeted by a massive crowd standing nearly shoulder to shoulder and Spanish music playing. You can push through the crowd to an intermediate coat check hallway (costs $2 to check a coat). Here I will give Cavo -1 because when we arrived, the coat check line was long and by the time we waited, it was full and we were told we couldn't check a coat, despite others waiting to get theirs out. The line to get a coat out of the coat check was 10+ minutes long when we arrived and on the way out near closing, was easily 15+ minutes long if not longer. Wouldn't recommend checking a coat for that wait alone. The second room past the coat check is a seating area and larger standing bar. A late night menu is available with food between $7-$10, but I didn't see anyone taking orders or getting orders. Cocktails are around $14 (?) and I didn't catch how much a beer was, but I'd guess $10ish. Standard club pricing. The last room is where most of the dancing happens with American dance remixes (think Blinding Lights, Katy Perry, etc.) and is by far the worst experience. There is a VIP area up front and two cages where dancers will occasionally go. Tons of lights and even confetti drops on big music drops. But there are too many people that shove through the crowd. Nothing Cavo could control unless they limit entry more, but it's a poor experience to try dancing in when you get stepped on or shoved every minute. Other clubs I've been to have done better at managing the crowd. +No cover +Decently fast bar service +Coat check $2 but -Coat check gets full and long wait on busy nights -Overcrowded (expected for a club with no cover). read more

This place is so racist towards people of color, the bald Hispanic guy that was at the Dj booth screamed the n-word multiple times at the end of the night while singing a song, even though he's clearly not black. Tried to go here for my 22nd birthday and it was a huge mistake. The bouncers were incredibly rude to me and my friends and confiscated 3 of our IDs claiming them to be fake despite the fact that they were real. We waited 30 minutes for the cops to arrive all the while the mangers were taunting us and telling us we were going to get citations. My one friend started crying and begging for her legal ID back and the manager with fake lips and hair extensions continued to antagonize her as if the whole ordeal were funny to her. The cops never came after 30 minutes and they finally gave us our IDs back and told us to leave. If I could rate zero stars I would. I've never met more rude people at a club before and I will never come back. read more

Absolute worst experience at a club ever. The rudest bouncers you will ever meet. I understand bouncers aren't there to be your friend but I've never encountered ones as rude as these ones. They also get very touchy... Also DO NOT go here if you are of the LGBTQ community. My friend and his boyfriend were harassed by the bouncers on the dance floor to the point that we had to leave. The second he noticed they were a couple, he was on them the whole night when they were literally just dancing. Anywhere they stood or tried to dance, the bouncer immediately would come grab them and yell. On top of all of that, they play shit music and also spray dry ice on your neck. Cavo is probably my favorite Pittsburgh nightclub. The first thing I noticed during my earlier years visiting was that it reminded me a bit of the old station square Matrix with a different music style and scene in each room area. Another thing I like about it is it seems like different age groups fit in well whether younger 20s-30s to 40s. The back room is more of the younger hip hop vibe while the front area is usually a more calm, laid back Spanish music choice. The middle area is sort of more chill mingling area rather than dancing. The drink prices are high but pretty average for nightclubs. It is sort of difficult to get bartender attention on super busy nights. The dress code is pretty typical. I believe no jeans and basketball shoes. I don't think there is any more entry allowed after 1am? There isn't usually a cover charge, I think there may have been on special occasions. There is a $1 fee for coat storage for those that don't use cash, might be good to know. I really like the deco outside the nightclub. I've seen a DJ here multiple times. I really don't think I ever had a bad time here, met several friendly people over the visits. I do wish they had the taco stand every weekend. May be one of the top clubs in Pittsburgh... Came here on Halloween 2014. The place was packed needless to say. There was a long line we had to wait in (about an hour) to even obtain entry. Bottle service was sold out, so we couldn't participate in that to avoid waiting. The inside of the club is kind of incredible. A huge chandelier hangs above the main dance floor. The decor is very modern with industrial touches. The drinks my friend and I had, were very expensive, but very strong :-) My only issue is the bodyguard situation... I understand you have friends that you want to let in with their friends, BUT there were people jumping the ropes when your backs were turned to the people actually waiting in line. I could have jumped the rope, and I honestly could have several times. Let's be honest... This isn't Miami, NYC, LA, or Vegas. There's no need for that kind of line situation. This is why I've deducted 2 stars. All in all, Cavo is fun. Next time, I may opt for bottle service with friends to avoid that whole line situation. read more

The women of Pittsburgh, particularly the female staff at Cavo, deserve a huge round of applause. I went to Cavo with my best girlfriend for a fun night of dancing after not seeing each other for almost 2 years and we throughly enjoyed ourselves. There were a few moments when men hit on us or tried to dance with us but we always felt safe and in good hands with the female bartenders and staff (one who literally took our hands and walked us outside through a crowd of people). The bouncers and managers were absolutely horrific. They took my and two of my other friends REAL LEGAL ID's - claiming they were fake. They called the police to 'run our numbers' while the general manager harassed and taunted my friend, who was worried and crying that she wouldn't get her ID back. I got my ID back damaged, the laminate overlay was ripped off. They also clocked my male friend for not following the dress code, while he was wearing a crop top. There is no mention of a crop top on the dress code on the website, and I don't want to throw words around, but it just seemed discriminatory. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

Writing to relate experiences re their New Year's Eve (NYE) events - maybe CAVO WILL READ THIS! We've attended the last 3. Generally, very well planned: Food was excellent, drinks were 'honest', bathrooms were decent, good 'partying' crowds. But, 2 big detriments. One, we prefer different MUSIC: the last 2 years were the same, only 1 DJ (their 'regular' ?), playing all night some kind of rap, with some songs slightly 'caribbean'. Everyone else appeared to like the tunes, but in our opinion, totally un-dance-able! -- We attend for the ambience, food, and TO DANCE (!!!). -- So CAVO: how about employing 2 DJs for that special night, or instruct the DJ to change tempo, like other dance places? --- Our 2nd complaint is very serious: the firm used for tix purchase - Eventbrite - has ALWAYS overcharged us; charging us for 2 or more other events of various prices! Each year, we've had to change credit cards bc of this fraudulent activity! (We're sure we're not the only victims!) -- So CAVO: PLS use a different tix firm, and/or allow us to buy tix another way, such as in person? This particular issue is so troublesome that we may not return to this event, even though we look forward to it. Otherwise, we liked these special 'nights' - perhaps we will return? (Btw, we're surprised at the different reviews on yelp (caveat: nightclubs generally don't get alot of reviews, good or bad); bad service, dishonest staff, 'no-alcohol' drinks...so far, we're 'lucky' in that we've not experienced these issues here, even on a regular, not-special-event night, of which we've tried a few) read more

Browsing through Groupon Local Restaurants and I see Cavo. I was confused. I thought Cavo was just a nightclub, but after reading some awesome reviews on yelp, I knew I had to check it out. We visited this past Saturday around 7:00pm. I was surprised to see that we were the first ones in the place. I've been to Cavo before, and was reminded of the beautiful décor and relaxing ambiance as we were seated. Our waiter was really friendly and provided us with excellent service throughout the evening. The menu is small- only two pages, and I was a little disappointed in their selection of appetizers. I decided to go for the grilled filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My boyfriend ordered the burger. Our entrees came out in good time and were stunning. The lighting is very dim in this place, so it was hard to take a good picture (yes, I am one of those people). My steak was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were super tasty and the asparagus was delicious. The boyf's burger was AWESOME- there was a TON of bacon, which I loved (I snuck a couple bites in) and it was cooked wonderfully. The chips were SO good. They were long like French fries and tasted super fresh. Delicious! Overall, we were surprised with how impressed we were with this place. Cavo is my favorite club! It is so much fun every time I go! The ambiance is superb! There are three large rooms, and each has its own separate bar! The music is awesome and upbeat, and the drinks are delicious! The owner (Paul) and manager (Justin) are such great people! They are always welcoming, fun, and super respectful! They really know how to run the club! My bartender, Henry, makes the best drinks and can handle a lot at once! He is awesome and can make drinks very fast and gives great recommendations! The security detail team is by far the best yet! Sal, Bruno, Tim, Frankie, Ty, and Alex are phenomenal! They always ensure we are safe, and I greatly appreciate it! I anticipated coming here and seeing Cavo with a four or five star rating. I can't believe it only has two! Maybe it's because I've only been here for events, but I think Cavo is awesome! I've been here three times to their "Vain" events. It's usually three local drag performers and a headliner from Rupaul's Drag Race. The place itself is beautiful on the inside. There is a lounge area, a restaurant area and the main dance floor that's stands next to the amazing waterfall wall. There's also a second floor that overlooks the dance floor and has a separate bar. It's hard to describe the theme of the place but I would describe it as new age gothic. Once you go, you'll get what I mean. The bartenders and staff have always been nothing but nice to me. Drinks are good, but can be quite expensive. I spent almost $20 on two long islands (including a tip). They also are a little stingy with the alcohol. I've never gone here and really "got messed up." Maybe it's because I'm too busy enjoying the show? I will definitely be back here for more "Vain" events. As far as coming on a random Saturday night, I'm not sure. From other reviews it seems the crowds are mighty different. read more

I came here for the Halloween party last week. Although I'm not generally a fan of nightclubs, I had a good time here with my friends. I appreciate the effort they put in to decorate the place for the occasion. They hung "body bags" from the ceiling, and they had a creepy actor in a nightgown sitting in a bed in one of the rooms who tried to scare people. Minus stars, though, for the 2 scantily-clad women dancing on stage in one of the back rooms..so unnecessary. Cavo was packed to the brim! It was a little annoying to keep getting bumped into because there were so many people, but on the bright side, it was great to see all of the creative costumes people came up with. I'm only rating this for my one time experience, but it was actually a great time. I guess, how else would you rate a club? We had a table, and the servers gave good service as they were attentive to fill up the ice bucket and replace glasses etc. We had the table closest to the door in the beginning of the night (by the piano). Although it was a good space and place for the table (if you want it to be less crowded), my friends and I wanted to be closer to the dance floor. We asked the server to move us and once a table was open, they moved us to the very front. It was a fabulous time! Felt very VIP. That table has a lot of comfy lounge space and felt private even if it was closer to the dj and dance floor because it was a little elevated. I like the decor of the place. They had a python at the time, too, and the owner/trainer of the snake would let you pose and take pics with it. I thought it was cool. The bathrooms would be what's expected of a club bathroom experience. The dj played great dance/club music, so if you're looking for that kind of scene, I would recommend this place.
