The first and second times were on weekends and it wasn't that busy and the vibes weren't great, however this was about 1 to 2 years ago. I recently went again last month and the vibes and music were way better. People were somewhat dancing but they're still a lot of just standing around. Luckily I never had to try to get a drink but the bar always looked super busy and I was told the drinks are extremely expensive there. The bathroom was not great. There was a line for the women's, and it was a mess in there. Not recommended. Overall I'd say this is a decent choice after 2 AM, since there's not many other choices in Pittsburgh. Came here for the first time on a Saturday night and the bartender that helped me was very rude & crabby for no reason. They weren't busy so I can't assume it was from being overwhelmed. I got an espresso martini and it was really good. The ambiance is cute as well- it's a speakeasy turned club vibe. Very much a party spot and not a chill relaxing spot. I was violently assaulted by the "police" they have posted up outside this place. After consulting the Pittsburgh review board, these are not even Pittsburgh police and are some kind of sketchy independent contractor police. That shouldn't even be legal. I was given a concussion with bruises and cuts all over me. The main cut on my head where I was thrown on the ground has a bad scar that's still hurts a bit and is visible months later (over two months later as of now) I had to make an ER visit and multiple concussion visits to manage symptoms for two months such as dizziness & nausea. I had to take medications and I was not able to work for at least a week and a half. The cocktails are delicious and inventive (this tiramisu martini was SO yummy), and the bartenders are knowledgeable and helpful. I think where Penn Society is getting lost is in the ambiance. The giant, round comfy couches are great for relaxing, but the DJ blasts club music so loud that it's hard to hear anyone but the person sitting directly next to you. It seems like a fun spot if you come with a large group (like a party), but not an ideal lounge for a smaller, more intimate setting that we were looking for out of a speakeasy/cocktail lounge. Every single time I go to a bar or club that is not aware of the true scope of ADA I am beyond polite and try to be extremely calm and empathetic towards the ignorant uninformed employees and explain to them the actual rules and regulations of ADA. Since I deal with this all the time from ignorant a**holes, I am well versed. I care about this cause greatly and ass such have spent a lot of time talking to our government representatives about the scope and scale of the ADA. . . Despite attempting to do that at Penn Society yesterday for a solid 15 minutes, I was still not provided a reasonable accommodation and denied entry to the club due to my backpack, therefor being discriminated against. Now, because of HIPPA, technically I don't even have to disclose to your ignorant staff what my disabilities are, but for transparency sake I will let you in and tell you the I have severe tinnitus, complex post traumatic stress syndrome, and am a profoundly gifted adult. So let's get into the facts here. . . The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires businesses and venues to provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities. In this case, the person with complex post-traumatic stress syndrome and tinnitus requires a backpack to carry essential items, such as medication or hearing aids, that alleviate the symptoms of their disability. Allowing a backpack in a nightclub that typically does not permit them can be considered a reasonable accommodation as it would enable the person to fully participate in the activities at the venue without compromising their health or safety. Denying them access or forcing them to leave their backpack outside would be a violation of their rights under the ADA. Of course, there may be concerns regarding security or safety issues related to allowing backpacks in a nightclub. In such cases, the nightclub would be required to explore alternative accommodation options that meet the needs of the individual with disabilities while also ensuring the safety and security of all patrons. The nightclub may also be required to make other modifications, such as providing assistance or alternative seating arrangements to ensure that the individual can fully participate in the activities at the venue. Failing to provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities is considered discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Nice to have a spot to go get a drink after 2am but that was about it. Prior to 2am it was free, after 2am it was $20 cover. There was not one chair or bar stool. There was no where to hang up a coat. Their house cocktails were not available at this time. The entire place reeked of weed, and it became more and more potent as time went on. Worst customer service ever. When we got to the place 3 ladies were telling the employees a man went into the ladies room and security did nothing about it. The girls left very upset and the staff did not even listen to them. My friend was not allowed in because the security guy did not accept the Puerto Rico license as an ID. After all this mess of a first impression the Security guy told us we can not wait 3 minutes for our uber on the entrance of the place and told us to wait outside under the rain because this was "not his problem". I want to Start by Saying I am from Pittsburgh and Never Have I ever experienced something So horrifying in my Life. I was told I was not aloud in because of the shoes I had on puma's Said they were street shoes but everyone had on street shoes. I didn't understand but I didn't argue until the officer at the dooor choked and pepper sprayed me. I am a female who weighs 100pound soaking wet a simple you can't get in Would of been enough for me to say okay and go home. I'm not sure if he thought I was someone else or not. Everyone in line didn't understand why it was done, no other employee helped me I was left outside on the street blind eyes and face burning.
