Poor reporting on their end. Most of their political reports are faceless and I can only believe in 1/2 as too what is said. Have to change to Freeform Channel so I don't have to get a barf bag. This evening I was watching channel 9 Family Feud you cut in on a chase where the police were not even aggressive with the person almost an hour ..went to the other news stations they weren't even carrying this ridiculous chase so I don't understand why you have to cut into this show for a chase that was ridiculous they were following the rules of the road the driver that is ... Looks like ur going to take over the whole time slot of Family Feud... which I think is messed up no other news channel made it a priority but u... that's sad and disrespectful to the the game show. read more

KCAL news has been in its new format for over a year now. and it doesn't look like there has been any moderation. not sure who this is being targeted at. and there is are recurring complaints on yelp. as if KCAL is listening. suffice it to say that KCAL news as it now stands is more or less unwatchable. firstly, everyone talks too fast, like they have to cram all their words into a small time slice. secondly, and this is mentioned repeatedly on yelp, the desk is a terrible idea. the desk is some tabloid move to make KCAL news more like TMZ. the desk is agressive, overly paced and staffed by people who have no business casting the news. the morning edition is the worst. the people there just babble. there simply isn't that much to say, so they're left to babble. i can wait until 11AM and watch KABC, where there is a higher level of professionalism and a more moderate pace of presentation. that's also true in the 5AM, 3PM or 5PM time slot. no way KCAL can even come close to KABC. that wasn't always the case, but then the rebranding debacle took place in january of 2023. i just have to wonder when KCBS/KCAL will realize how terrible this is and try a different approach. read more

Watched channel 9 news at noon and feel like only snips of the total news gets ignored. For example Trump was in Omaha for campaigning in freezing weather. His supporters were bused in from over lies to rally but had to walk back to their cars. 9 were hospitalized. None of this was reported. Instead time for 3 weather reports aware. I just wanted to convey how much I think Suzie Suh on KCAL-9 CBS-2 is an amazing person and a fantastic anchor on Channels 9 and 2. I have been meaning to say so for a very long time so this accolade is way overdue. Suzie Suh just has such an endearing quality of projecting such a natural and effortless WARMTH and empathy unlike any other local newscasters I can think of and I watch a lot of local and national/cable news. It is refreshing to have such a newscaster with such a rare quality so I hope you realize how loved and appreciated she is by the viewers. read more

I used to enjoy watching KCAL News weekday evenings, that is until Jeff Vaughn became part of the team. He is the worst news reader I have ever listened to, so much so that I usually change the channel whenever he stumbles, mispronounces or just plain misreads the copy. And, it doesn't take long! Often, when I close my eyes, he sounds like a beginning reader, fingering each word. I feel my body relax whenever he is absent, and I still enjoy watching KCAL on the weekend. read more

KCAL 9 News at 9 O'clock is the BEST local news anywhere in California. Good, hard news on the local, state, national and world scene. Excellent reporting. Contrast it to KCAL news at 10 O'Clock and it's like night and day. Why can't they get their act together after prime time? That's when most people watch local news, and all they are getting is break ins, Drive bys, shootings, and car chases. Part of the ridicules Black out in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas. we woere told we could pay $10 a month to get KCBS channel 2 and KCAL Chanel 9.. We already pay Direct TV a huge amount. This is ridiculous and completely absurd that as a corporation you're holding your loyal viewers hostage in a re-trans fee war. It's my hope that others will read this post and tune to other channels during sweeps months (November, February, May & July), as retribution, so that your ratings will diminish as well as the value of our your channel. Hello, I watch kcal 9 news every evening. I enjoy the chemistry between the news casters. I have one pet peeve. When the weather portion comes on the young lady Taft stands in front of the screen blocking the view of the area that I live. Then when it's not her the KCAL 9 logo blocks it. Why does she not stand where there is no information. Or move your logo to the bottom right of the creen. I know she needs to be there but consider the whole viewing area of your audience is not just the west part of Los Angeles, but the high desert also. read more

When reporting about the new law about medically assisted suicide the reporter said that the lady they were interviewing was hoping that she survived long enough to see the bill passed! What? She wants to survive in order to commit suicide?! I'm sure that's not what the woman meant during the interview but that's what the reporter said. I've been watching the massive fires in SoCal for the last 3 days. My family lives north of Ventura so it's been very stressful. Unfortunately, the only local SoCal 8:00 news is KCAL (HORRIBLE). I heard earlier on the Channel 4 news (my preference for local news) at the closing news at 6:00 that there was a mandatory evacuation in Carpinteria. The Ventura fire is the largest fire in SoCal and still only 10% contained burning over 470 structures already. I turn on the news and they start talking about 2 smaller fires that started up today in the San Diego area...briefly touch on the Ventura fire and then talk about weather. No surprise to see your YELP ratings AND what everyone I know thinks about your channel news. read more

I loved, loved , loved Channel 9 news!!! Then they brought in Jeff Vaughn. I'm not sure if his reading level is even 3rd grade. He is the worst. He has no personality. He cannot read a story. He obviously does NO preparation so he mispronounces Los Angeles areas and streets. He does not have any rapport with any of the co- news-readers. How did he ever get to the Los Angeles market? The Kcal9 news is horrible. You can watch the CBS News at 6:30 at night and get all of the same stories in a 1/2 hour that you will get it in an hour of the kcal9 news All you ever seem to hear on the kcal news is coming up at the top of the hour or coming up right after this which means they are going to show you a whole bunch of commercials again. And then they will probably come back tell you one little story and show you another commercial. Hey kcal how about giving us a lot more news and worrying a lot less about all those commercials. For some unknown reason the Kcal9 WX girl, Eve, chooses to SKIP the second page of wx forecasts for the week. This means the IE, deserts and mountains DON'T COUNT IN THE EYES OF THE STATION, because we are never shown our 7 day forecast. I have written them TWICE, and asked why does she constantly skip these locations while all their other WX forecasters on their station include us? The WX was GREAT before she came back from maternity leave. But I noticed it IMMEDIATELY. What does she think, we don't care, or we don't count? What's even worse is during her lead up to the 7 day there are often times when she says something like "you'll really start to feel it in the IE" or, "things are going to really be cool in the mountains"...THEN NEVER SHOW US THE FORECAST TO BACK IT UP!!!! She is worthless, does not serve her audience and should be sent back home on permanent leave. I've even heard Josh say "and here's your forecast for the IE...WE DON'T WANT TO LEAVE YOU GUYS OUT!" No, just that worthless Eve Taft...that's her job. read more
