He recommended we call an Electrician. I didn't know any so I headed for Yelp. I contacted two with good reviews and they discovered a scary arcing issue in the breaker box. We ended up hiring Ongaro & Sons and felt calmer the minute I called. Jeanne in the office was so professional and helpful. She set up a site visit right away. When Corbin arrived, his confidence, his abilities, and knowledge were impressive. He understood exactly what the cause was and the solution. Unfortunately, the remedy was a replacement panel $$$. We agreed. He knew about a recent change in PG&E's "Green Book" that would allow our panel to be installed in the original footprint but he explained that the new system would need to be grounded to water and gas. He immediately contacted PG&E and Town of Windsor to start permits and scheduling. Chad and Alex showed up on Monday morning at 7:30, ready to go. They professionally prepared the site for PG&E to turn off the power and then they got to work on removing all of the breakers and installing the new set of Eaton breakers. They used the crawl space under the house to run the grounding wiring and the work was completed by early afternoon. They left the site clean and did an excellent job of making a new wood frame for the panel. Alex showed us everything that he had done and it was an awesome sight to see after multiple days of worrying about the arcing issue turning into something very serious. Thank you Ongaro! They gave us a sliding scale depending on labor for specific jobs. When they invoiced us, they included receipts for parts... this is something that we rarely see but it creates a sense of trust and honesty. There are no surprises. Our first job was a lesser, more simple, job-we had at few sockets replaced one of which was a very loose socket that we were concerned about arcing. The second job was more extensive as there were several "needs" in one day. They replaced overhead light fixtures (3 of them), replaced an old and VERY outdated (probably from when our house was built over 35 years ago!) smoke/fire alarm, and installed bedside wall mounted lights. My wife and I had just bought a Tesla and wanted to install a fast charger in our garage. Some of our neighbors had fast chargers installed and they paid as much as $1,700 for the installation alone! I called around and was consistently quoted over $1K and was even quoted a starting price of $1,200 from one of the most well known companies in the area that specialize in this. Towery Electric was the only company that I called that gave me an honest assessment about how much it might cost to have the charger installed. They told me that the cost could depend on several factors (distance to the panel, quality of the panel and breakers, etc.). And at the end of the call, they told me that based on my situation and set up, that it would probably be best to be charged by the hour ($150/hour) and that it would probably be a 3-4 hour job. After finally receiving the charger in the mail, I called Towery to make the appointment. They called me back right away and I was set up with an appointment the next morning! The electrician they sent came right on time, and after just a little over 3 hours, they were done! Total cost was just under $600 which included material costs! The installation was super clean, looks professional and cost half as much as most of the quotes I had gotten from other companies! Definitely a recommend from me!
