Called to get an estimate and was told that estimates cost $48, although that will go toward the cost of work. This is unusual, and clearly a push to get prospective customers to commit to them before they get a bid. Most electricians (and other trades) I've worked with over the years don't charge an estimate fee, they consider it a cost of doing business, especially if you want to get a couple of bids. They came out on a Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend - when most people are enjoying time off, to help diagnose issues with my newly installed Nest thermostat. Ben quickly discovered that a fuse had blown, ran out to an auto parts store to get a replacement, came right back, and had our heat restored in no time. The Nest is now working perfectly! Rocky Hill Electric just installed a new subpanel at our house. The experience was very positive from start to finish. The owner, Ben, came out immediately and got us an estimate within day. Ben was incredibly friendly, knowledgable and professional. He gave us three options as to upgrading our main panel and subpanel and we choose the one that was right for our situation. We thought the price was very reasonable and his knowledge about our old electric system was very impressive. Shortly after signing the contract, he had one of his subpanel specialists come out to do the work. Cole, was also very friendly and professional. He knew immediately what to do to install the new subpanel and main panel surge protection. He had to cut some of the sheet-rock in order to fit the new panel in. But he saved all the pieces and put them back in place after he was done. He was very meticulous in his identifying and labeling all the circuits properly. He kept us appraised of his progress and gave us an estimate of when the house would have power again. He totally cleaned up after the job was complete. Ben, the owner even stopped by to make sure everything was going smoothly. All in all it was a very successful upgrade and we were very pleased with the results. I weirdly can't wait until my next time using Rocky Hill Electric. I called this morning because our wired smoke alarms were going off randomly. Not fun. The kind woman on the other end took stock of the situation and by 1pm an electrician, Neyko, was at our house. And now the best part. Neyko investigated the situation and laid out all the options and their prices-- including NOT doing any electrical work and instead converting to battery power smoke detectors, which is what I ended up doing. I had an "emergency" on Christmas Day when a fuse had blown leaving a part of our house (including the kitchen!) in the dark. It was not a regular case of just one blown fuse and the reset was such that a lay person wouldn't have picked up on the solution. Rocky Hill was the 3rd phone call I made and i was pleasantly surprised when Ben and not a recording answered my call. He was there within the hour and quickly pointed out the issue for which the reset wasn't obvious. He was polite and got the issue resolved while explaining why the overload of the circuit happened in the first place. The solution of the problem wasn't easy to see due to faulty installation of the fuse box. Ben promised to return later to correct the faulty installation. I much appreciated Ben and his professionalism and his non hesitation to help me on a day he should have been with his family. read more

I've found my new electricians! Everything about the experience was top-notch. They switched out an old Zinsco death panel and replaced it with a new sub-panel. They responded right away, were easy to schedule with and gave a bid that was less than the others I got. Then they showed up on time and were pleasant all around. Had a very good experience. PGE cut the power to our residence due to a bare wire on a Friday. We were stuck. Neyko came out same day, surveyed the situation, spent the afternoon helping to navigate permits with the County. Bid the correct solution for us, was back early on Monday with Wyatt and spent the day cranking out the project. At the end of the day we were stuck trying to get a hold of PGE (not a good look for PGE quite honestly), but they figured out a way to get our power back the following morning. Of all times of the year to need electrical work done NOW, this is not the time of year I would have chosen; & phoning every contact I had in my business card file got me absolutely nowhere. We came across Rocky Hill Electric in a search of nearby electricians this morning; Ben was on site to see what we needed done & place a bid by noon; & Neyko was there to complete the project a short time later. Both Ben & Neyko were friendly, professional, & we are both pleased with the quality of the work. On top of that, Neyko mentioned that he saw a few items done by other electricians that he thought could be done better, & gave us a quote to fix them.
