Just had our 50s era circuit panel replaced by Len and his crew, and we are very happy with the job. In addition to getting a new solar ready 200 amp panel, we also had an add on garage brought up to code with new conduit and outlets for workbench, lighting, and dedicated car charger circuits in both the garage and the front driveway. Also new circuits to 3 rooms for running individual AC units. They probably could have charged more because some add on work was done that was not written down in the original quote but it obviously needed doing so they just did it. My wife and I were both impressed with the craftsmanship and the teamwork of the crew, and how everyone listened to each other regardless of age or experience level, to brainstorm and implement the best solution for the situation. We needed a 1974 installed Zinsco electric panel replacing at our Novato townhouse, which involved securing a waiver from the city because of it's proximity to other utilities. Len at Marin SF Electric gave us a detailed bid/plan, helped secure HOA approval and handled all the necessary waiver and permit red tape with the city. He also scouted around our subdivision and found an example of how this had been done previously, which proved useful in selecting a replacement panel. On the day, Len and his team of Duncan, Erin and Eric were professional and observed all COVID safety precautions. They were also replacing all the outlets inside our home and installing a new LED light in the shed. Everything was completed in one day (including co-ordinating the city inspection). They repaired all the exterior wooden trim and an interior partition wall. Even power washing the spray-painted utility markers off the asphalt (at my request). Finally, they also paid mind to our 2x nervous house cats and cleaned up after themselves indoors. The new panel was fully tested and we were happy with Marin SF Electric's work: from first contact to job completion. Marin Electric was fantastic. They were one of three electrical firms I interviewed to fix an electrical outage at my house. Len, the proprietor, came to look at my house and diagnose the problem. He correctly identified the issue as a break in the underground power line coming from the street into my house. He was then uncanny in predicting the exact spot where the break occurred. He seems to have an intuition about these things. The next day he brought a diagnostic tool that confirmed the location, which was then found shortly thereafter by digging a small trench. His ability to pinpoint the break saved me thousands of dollars. Because of the location of the break, it was relatively quick to pull out the defective wire and install new wiring. His employees, Juan and William were very efficient in doing the actual work and cleaning up afterwards. While the other two firms I interviewed made positive impressions, their quotes were much higher because they anticipated having to do more work, whereas Marin Electric pinpointed the work. Len's experience and insights led him to a more specific diagnosis of the problem and therefore a quicker and less expensive repair. He really knows his stuff. When he introduced himself he said he would become my electrician for life, and he was right about that, too! read more

It's crazy to think in 70+ years, no one ever installed lights in any of our 3 closets. Marin SF to the rescue...they installed the lights (2 on sensors and 1 with a switch) at a really reasonable rate. In addition, we had a chandelier put up by them, which was slightly complicated, and some maintenance to our outdoor lights. The pros: Len was quick to call me back and schedule an appointment that same week. He showed up just about 30 minutes later than agreed, no big deal. The work he did was also high-quality and passed inspection without any issue. I felt the price was fair. Plus, as a designer I appreciate their branding (logo, trucks, etc) and felt it relevant for Marin. The cons: Our dishwasher suffered some collateral damage due to a mounting screw installed for an electrical box. It punctured a hose and leaked water and needed to be replaced. Len was visibly and verbally frustrated, but basically told me that he wasn't a plumber and I would need to deal with this myself; he would reimburse me for the repair. I had to spend time finding the part (which wasn't easy) and then time with a repair person to get everything back in order. Less of an issue, I also found parts/debris left behind at a couple of the areas he worked at, including one of his screwdrivers (which I returned). Unfortunate things happen, but I feel it could have been handled a little better so the onus wasn't on me to repair his mistake. So a ding on customer service. But the work quality was strong. read more

When I pointed out that the quoted rate was $120, he said that the first hour was $175. There were some other factors in the charge which were not explained at the time, but Len agreed to refund the difference, and I appreciate that. read more
