Okay, I decided that I would give Cecil's another try today (especially since the owner decided to respond to my first review)...so, 2 days after my initial visit... This time I ordered the garlic rubbed steak salad. When I received it, the steak (sirloin?) had been cut into fairly bite sized pieces. So, with that in mind, once again, quality control needs to come into play. If you are going to cut the steak up, wouldn't you remove the excess fat and gristle? I ended up having to cut the extra fat/ gristle away, and set it on the edge of my plate. Again, the price was extraordinarily high for what I received. Normally, a salad has some substance to it, and the only real substance was the steak. Also, according to the menu, the steak was seasoned with garlic and chili, yet it was almost devoid of any seasoning at all, and was tough to chew. Had the steak actually been seasoned nicely, perhaps I wouldn't have been disappointed in this dish also. On a positive note though, the staff is extraordinarily friendly, and the beer is ice cold on draft! Really needed after a long hard day! read more

I was pleasantly surprised by Cecil's. My sister works nearby and has come here quite a few times for lunch. She raved about the burgers and the fried mushrooms. They have a lunch menu with special pricing, Monday - Saturday. I opted for the Tiger Burger with sweet potato fries. My sister order the chicken wings and fries mushrooms. My burger was worth it. Cooked perfectly medium on a jalapeño bun. The sweet potato fries were dusted with cinnamon and sugar. The service was so-so. Nothing spectacular. Our drinks were refilled only once. All in all, I would come back again for the burger. In a small town of Louisiana, this spot is a gem. read more

The moment we walked into this place we absolutely loved it. The multi level dining area, outdoor dining, main dining had two large rooms filled with sports memorabilia and good music playing throughout. The service was great and the food was even better. We had good conversations about how good the food was and the flavors coming from the grill. We are from Eunice, La and recently lost one our good restaurants (Nicks on Second Street) due to fire. We don't know what the futures plans are yet for the building. The topic that came up often during our luncheon was how Eunice would love, support and NEEDS for Mr. Jon to consider opening a Cecil's in our city. Ok, where to start? When you first walk in, you are greeted right away. I ordered the cajun sampler the first time and was not disappointed. They have the best gumbo I have ever tasted. The next time, I took the whole family. The fried crawfish tails were amazing. So are the fried pickles, especially with cajun seasoning added on them. Overall the place has a nice vibe, though the service was rather lacking. The staff would constantly mess up whose food goes where, and messed up the actual orders that did make it to the proper tables. The food itself wasn't bad, just an irritating experience overall. I was the guest speaker today for the DeRidder Rotary club because I run SWLA Abolitionists, a local anti-human trafficking organization. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo. It was delicious! I ate half and brought the rest home and the last of it was still great. The waitress, during the meeting, was so kind and respectful. Food is not good at all unless u like a box of salt on ur food. Steak is full of fat. Salad has no dressing or way too much. I would give this place no stars but I have to put at least one. Locals seems to boost this restaurant, but not understand the competition. Which, of course, there isn't a whole lot of. Prices for the food quality does not match. I paid $20 for a slathered piece of over seasoned, lukewarm fish in a type of Cajun sauce. Supposedly there was lobster and shrimp in it... not that I saw. Yea... you know there aren't much to eat around here besides fast food restaurants, so we will be back, but I'm never excited to eat here. First, the wait. If you go during dinner time on a Friday or Saturday, expect to wait at least an hour. Yuck. How annoying, at least they have recliner chairs for you to wait in. Second, the service. There seems to always be at least two hosts at the host booth, and they never seem too excited to see you. They will say hi, but does not intimate with hosting. I expect them to ask me how I'm doing and followed with "how many people in your party?" nope. Doesn't happen. Weird. Maybe it's not a norm here, who knows. The last time we went there, the waiter got 3 orders out of 5 wrong, and for one of them, instead of correcting it right away, he proceeded to blame us. My mother in law pointed at the menu, and said "catfish" but couldn't say the second word Opelousas, and he said that he was at the opposite end of the table so he didn't see what she was pointing at. No sir, you were literally right next to her. Just fix the order. Food, we have been there 3 times, and each time it's just alright. The first time I had the New Orleans filet which is catfish smothered in some cream sauce, yuck. Second time was the ribeye. This was actually pretty tasty, but I had to ask for A1 sauce so I guess it wasn't that great. And the third time I ordered the chicken. I forget exactly what it was called, but it was just meh. Edible, I finished it, but I was not excited about it. I will say that their appetizers are almost always a hit. The gator bite is great, get it blackened. It's pricey for just a few pieces but that's good. And the fried mushrooms and pickles are also really good. Next time I go, I might just order the appetizers! read more

Our waitress took them back and nuked them in the microwave. We ordered 4 meals. Kids fish and fries was ok just not seasoned to well. Fried crawfish tasted old and cold. On 1/8/2021 we went to Cecil's to try the TIger Burger we have heard so much about. Hostess said it would be 30 - 35 minute wait. No problem. Good food is worth the wait. After an hour I asked hostess how much longer and was told there were 3 or 4 tables still ahead of us. 30 minutes later (90 minutes after arriving) I asked to speak to the manager. When hostess walked away to get the manager I looked at the wait list and saw 2 groups that arrived after us had already been seated at tables. Manager said they had 4 or 5 large parties and that was causing a delay. I asked the manager to better train hostess stand workers to better estimate wait times. The food at Cecil's may be good or even great. I will never know. Don't trust the wait time given by front hostess. No staff, including managers were wearing a mask. read more

The food here is okay. Not great but not horrible. What is horrible is the service. We waited 40 minutes for a beer. The waitress was sweet but a bit overwhelmed on her shift. I think she had too many tables to manage. But the lack of service and attention wasn't acceptable. 40 minutes for a beer???? Not cool! Gumbo was average. Jambalaya not recommended by server so I didn't try it but someone else did and it was dry and overcooked. Disappointed in this place given how much people I know complimented the food. Cecil's was pretty tasty! We found this gem while passing through town. I had the seafood pasta, & they gave me an excessive amount of seafood. I am not complaining, I usually have the opposite problem so that was a relief. The cream/overall flavor had a good Cajun spice to it. My boyfriend had the Orleans Filet (he's substituted the tilapia for catfish) and that was awesome as well. The only reason why I gave them 4 stars & not 5 was because of their sauce that was served with the Gator bites. The bites themselves were amazing! Perfect amount of crisp. I just couldn't get into the sauce it came with. I eat them pretty regularly in Louisiana & get the sauce all the time & it's really once of those sauces I look forward to. Gator bites- $10.99 First we ordered the fried gator for an appetizer, I tasted the breading by itself and it tasted like straight flour, so salt, no seasoning. The sauce for it was pretty bland too. Seafood pasta- $16.99 Husband ordered the seafood pasta, there was barely a full serving on there and the garlic bread was squished. Stuffed crab- $14.99 I ordered the stuffed crab with fries and onion rings. Stuffed crab was good, but wouldn't surprise me if it was artificial crab. The onion rings were bland and tasteless like the gator bites. No spice and no flavor in anything but the fries and the stuffed crab. Went home and ate ramen and sandwiches. Great, friendly staff. We usually prefer to sit at the bar and have always had luck with both the bartenders and servers.

I've yet to have anything bad from this place. Every dish I've had is delicious and the host are some of the best I've ever experienced.
