We would've rated negative stars if we could have. My GF got a hamburger and fries. The burger was premade, and tasted like previously frozen muskrat...and that's an insult to muskrats. The vegetables were bland and wilted, and the result was a flat, dry burger that wouldn't have survived a fast food line. "Dreadful" is the word that comes to mind. The fries were edible, so there's that. The highlight of this visit, however, and reason for the review, was my meal. I've heard of "prison food"; I suspect this qualifies. My hamburger steak may have been a leftover muskrat patty; but we couldn't tell, because it was invisible beneath a thick coat of dark brown, viscous liquid which tasted like canned gravy. The mashed potatoes should have been served in a bowl as potato soup, they were so runny. And my salad? A sprig or two of greens in a plastic "to go" box, served with a tub of Roquefort dated November 30. We were already never going back. I would rate the food but we didnt even get that far. immediately the atmosphere is just awkward, there was one waitress and we sat there for 10 minutes watching her talk on the phone before she came over and said they only had tea and water. not the best but fine. after reading the menu she asked what we wanted, my dad ordered fried crawfish. she then said "if we dont have that what else do u want" as the headphone in her ear is blasting music. we left immediately and realized why there wasnt anyone in there in the first place. do not go here. read more

We stopped here on our way thru town with our group on motorcycles. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our food! My husband and I shared a crab and shrimp boil (I always forget to take pics before we eat any). It was spicy, but delicious. The rest of our group enjoyed everything they ordered as well. This place was out of our way but the reviews looked good. Hungry Cajun kids here thought, why not! SO GLAD WE WENT OUT OF OUR WAY!!! The burgers are so juicy and the buns, melt in your mouth 5 star all the way! The homemade real potatoes French fries are delicious! They even made me a little burger patty for our puppy! We had our little pup with us so we had to take it to go but we were able to sit across the street at the picnic table. The food was ready faster than any fast food joint and 100 times more tasty! Sat around 5:15 pm on a Monday.. Ordered a side of fried pickles Had the Cajun Joe burger that comes with fries. Fried pickes way too salty. When i told the waitress, she took my basket away. Moments later she came back with my same basket saying that they told her that it cannot be salty because it is just flour and oil. Well, it was too salty! We stopped in here based on the reviews and actually went out if our way to try it, but apparently they should be called Burger Joes because the seafood we had was terrible. My husband had the shrimp and crab gumbo which was basically hot brown water, rice, an empty crab shell and 3 or 4 mini shrimp. I had the fried oyster platter with fries and a dinner salad. Just good tasting, well seasoned food! If you're passing by, you have to stop by and try this place. Everything we've tried here has been delicious! The owner and his girlfriend are so nice and friendly. If you speak Cajun French, you can have a good ol' conversation with Joe! Usually had Cajun music playing in their sound system too. read more

We ate here for the first time. My husband had the cajun burger and I had the chicken fried steak sandwich. Both of us were surprised how good these burgers tasted! And the size was so much we couldn't eat it all. We didn't know this place existed but we don't get to Newton very often...now we have a reason to go back. Really enjoyed our lunch and because of the virus, we ate lunch in the park. Whenever you're in town, be sure not to pass up this place...you'll not be disappointed!! read more

We went there at the request of a friend who's lived in Tx 13 years and has never driven the 20-30 min to try this place. Her husband loves crawfish, and Dane's is closed on Sun & Mon and we wanted to go out somewhere on Mon for the holiday (Memorial Day). We all ended up ordering something different. The gentleman that we thought would order crawfish instead opted for the liver & onion's, his wife had fried fish, their grown son a hamburger, my husband a chicken fried chicken sandwich? (I don't remember exactly) and I had the fried shrimp. It wasn't very busy, it was 2:30pm, in fact we were one of the two customers there. (that's why we went at that time) and the waitress was good, the food was prepared fresh, the sauces (tartar and cocktail sauce) tasted homemade, but the cook was apparently not great with timing. The hamburger was hot, and the chicken sandwich was hot, but the fish, the liver & onions, and my shrimp (including everyone's fries were warm at best. The food was very good, but I like hot food not warm. I would go back again just because of the food, and hope they are better with their timing next time. read more
