The Stone River Greenway can be accessed by several trailheads in the Donelson/Hermitage area. The…read moremost popular access points are along Lebanon Pike. I made my way onto the Greenway via the Kohl's trailhead, which is an entrance found at the back end of the Kohl's department store parking lot. It's not glamorous, but gets the job done. At this entry point you are directed under, around and onto the Bob Sheehan Memorial Bridge. As you walk this path, you are next to the Stones River, as well as Lebanon Pike. Once you get beyond the immediate area, you finally hit the trails. The trails are a collection of pathways from wide roads between the river and neighborhoods, to slimmer walkways in the woods. There is not one identity for the trails here, and they seem kind of pathed together. But even so, they get the job done for those who enjoy walking, jogging or biking. Additionally, Ravenwood Park can be found just a half mile or so down the trail from the Kohl's trailhead. While I didn't not explore this park, it too has an interesting history. There is a lot of construction happening along large stretches of the trails, mostly that of new neighborhoods. This takes away from the nature aspect of the greenway, but I get it... Overall, the Stones River Greenway Trails get the job done. I prefer other stretches of the greenway such as those near Two Rivers, but when in the area or just needing a change of scenery, this portion of the trail is a decent option.

This park is set up great, BUT before 7:30am we had dump trucks driving by shaking our camper, a…read moretrack hoe and a Jack hammer operating within 100 yards of our camper- again BEFORE 7:30am. The park is clean and set up perfectly (would love septic hookup) but we've always loved staying here but this extreme noise was a bit much. I felt sorry for the people next to us who had small children. We were here to help a family member who was recovering from an hospital stay and we were very tired. We've not encountered this during any other visits at the park.

I had my Mother's Day celebration here and it was perfect. Parking; There is ample parking Restroom: them actually having a facilities and it's what you'd expect for a public park. A place to go in, do what you need and leave. Walking trail: Nice and clearly marked. It's about a mile long and has markers all over. Playground: there are a few. Big and small. Lots of wooden swings as well. There are signs throughout the park that has mindful activities or educational purposes. Creek: There is a creek that runs around the park. Grills: The have lots of charcoal grills that you can use if that's your thing. I prefer to bring my own small one. Lots of areas to hammock. (Even by the creek) Picnic Tables: All over. Pavilions: They have small and large ones with electric outlets and tables. Very reasonable if you live in Wilson Co. This is a nice park. I always see park employees riding around maintaining the grounds. Also offer a place to charge electric vehicles.

Bathrooms are dated, but cleaner than most rest stops. The walking/biking path is 100% well kept and my personal favorite part of the park. I am hoping to come back with my grands, and from afar the playground looks like a kids dream. Fitness park definitely is in disrepair. But I love the idea of it. The wading pool was closed and the water looked clean, but was full of leaves (it was just fall y'all) The creek behind the park was peaceful and pretty. Finally, leaving a one star because they dont allow dogs doesn't set well with me. Because there were so many young kids on bikes and skates, I can see where a dog could get hurt or cause a new rider to get hurt. There are plenty of dog friendly parks, but not nearly the amount of skate/bike friendly places for younger kids. As a dog owner, I wouldn't want to walk my elderly dog here. And honestly, it was refreshing not having to navigate piles of dog waste. But that's a rant for another park!

My youngest son and I spent a little over an hour yesterday walking the greenway and soaking up…read moresome sun. There was some craziness going on in our neighborhood (and we live in a very good area of town). Apparently, a man and his wife were in a domestic dispute, and swat had to be called in to take him out. Since we couldn't get to our home for 4 plus hours, my son and I went to dinner, and then to the greenway for some exercise. As we were walking, he was playing Pokémon Go collecting whatever they collect in that game and conducting "raids." I was just enjoying my time with him and the serene view and calm water of the stones river. We even had a rock skipping competition which was fun too. After about an hour or hour and a half, we headed back to our neighborhood and we're able to finally get into our home. Unfortunately, we heard that the man had to be shot and killed by swat.

A…read morerefresher from the Lock 1 Post: In the 1890s, the locks and dams were constructed along the Cumberland to help steamships navigate the waters. But it was expensive, didn't work well, and steamship utilization drops. Nashville Parks and Rec took over managing it this park in 1956. It has 5.73 acres, overlooking the Cumberland River. It was actually hard for me to get a good picture of the river, because there were so many people fishing! This is the first Nashville park we've hit that had people fishing, which was fun to see. It has a playground, a boat launch, and the original lock keeper's house.

Green Hills is so nice. This was my first Nashville neighborhood and I am still discovering things…read moreabout it. To wit, I used to live a street and a half away from Sally Beaman and I had no idea it existed until recently. That's somewhat embarrassing to admit but I chose to view it in another light: there's much to discover everywhere in this metro -- even in well-trod places. I'm sure people know this park by its Christian name -- the park outside the Green Hills library. While one might not think the park should be independent from the library, it has its own name and offers an experience unique from that of the library. I don't regard Sally Beaman as the library's yard; rather I view it as the library's neighbor, one that elevates the already-awesome public good. (In the spring/summer/early fall) Sally Beaman is the perfect place to bring a book and get lost in literature. The space is filled with benches and shade trees. One might even think the purpose of the park is for reading. The space is, mainly, a flat, largish plot of grass surrounded by a walking trail. Despite the initial impression, there's a surprising amount of mature shade trees to enjoy. And every few feet of trail reveals a dedicated park bench, perfect for reading, sitting for a spell or catching up with a friend. This is highlighted by the park's art installation: an older man and a little girl, no doubt caught up in discussing a book. I was surprised to see a number of dogs at the park. I wouldn't think this to be a particularly obvious dog park but, I suppose, neighborhood denizens get in where they fit in. And speaking of the neighborhood, you won't forget you're in Green Hills. From the cars zooming by, to the adjacent houses, to the over-it teens trudging from the hill school to the library, the park fits its home -- and you'll probably want to move in. Small but sure, Sally Beaman Park is an example of the wonderful, ubiquitous and hidden green beauty that can be found throughout Middle Tennessee. Fall is here. Get outside and enjoy it.
