I will say, there are some tents as you go more east and a man once came out from a tent and gifted me a knife and told me "a girl like you shouldn't be walking here" and proceeds to tell me how he was in prison for 10 years. Can someone tell me what causes you to end up in prison for 10 years ? Thank you. Overall beautiful park but i would recommend bringing a knife and pepper spray. and a shotgun for good measure.

We've driven past this park numerous times, but never officially stopped to visit, until today! The…read moreentrance for the park is right behind a Dairy Queen drive-thru which can act as a bonus treat for walking this loop a few times. There's a creek that runs alongside of the walking trail and a small grouping of trees at the end of the loop. These offer some shade and two swinging benches to take a quick break from the summer heat. Beyond that this trail is mostly in the sun, but stays flat the entire way. It's great for running, dog walking or teaching kids how to ride a bike away from traffic. There is an open field area that I guess you could have a picnic on, but you're right next to Mt. Juliet rod so there's a lot of noise traffic noise. Plus there are also two wetland sections that I'm sure have a ton of mosquitos. Maybe just get in a few quick laps here and take off. According to my phone, one lap around is 2,500 steps. Get into it!

It felt clean, welcoming, and super safe! So happy we found this park. The only thing we wish it also had were trash cans along the path to dispose of dog bags. We would also love if they would add a couple water fountains along the path for dogs to drink out of! They've had this at some other parks we've been to and we really appreciated it. William Whitfield Parks was founded in 1978, and has over 13 acres of land. It underwent a $200,000…read morerenovation in 2003. It has three baseball diamonds, a batting cage, a playground, and a football/multipurpose field. It also is nestled up against a creek. It also is the home to the trailhead for the Seven Mile Creek Greenway. We went about half a mile down the greenway, and were discouraged and turned around. Between the untamed brush, cell phone towers, and attractive views of the road, it wasn't terribly inspiring. That's not to discount the entire trail, as I'm sure there are great spots in the other six and a half miles. I would be remiss if I didn't mention William Drew Whitfield (1931-1976), who lived on Woodett Road. Although professionally an engineer for Honeywell, the last fifteen years of his life were dedicated to volunteering for youth sports, notably the Volunteer Dixie Youth Baseball League and the Boy Scouts. This park was the first park built in this area, and it's emphasis on baseball seems a fitting tribute to the memory of the park's namesake.

There is a lot to like about this large park and it's one of my favorites. I'll break it down by…read morethe primary features. Trails: this is the primary reason I go to Crockett Park. I sometimes walk but mostly bike on the trails with a little one. They are relatively flat and because they are so long, they are rarely crowded. The trail users vary in age and there are plenty of blind curves, so it's not a place to go for fast biking. The scenery is varied and the majority of the trails are shaded. As a bonus, there are lots of places you can dip your feet in the Little Harpeth River. You can bike from Smith Park to the south to Tower Park north of Concord Road. The trails also connect to various neighborhoods, the Brentwood Library, and the Brentwood YMCA. Five stars. Playgrounds: there are several playground at Crockett Park/River Park. The main one near Woodland Middle School between baseball fields. It's large with a divided small kids and big kids section. Kids love it, and there are plenty of benches and tables for parents to sit or for a lunch break. Five stars. Frisbee golf course: 18 holes and, unlike many in the area, clear signage. Some holes are similar and a few are pretty short, but overall good course for a quick game. Four stars. Restrooms: these are all over the park. Some are closed part of the year, but for the most part they are open and reasonably clean for public restrooms. Four stars. Parking: You can park more places than I can count off the top of my head to start your walk, jog, bike ride or attend a sporting event. Amphitheatre: The Eddy Arnold Amphitheatre is great for summer concerts, of which there are many every year. Sports fields: I don't use them at this time, but they are very well maintained and there are a lot of football, soccer, and baseball fields. Parking: You can park more places than I can count off the top of my head to start your walk, jog, or bike ride. This is handy for days when the fields are crowded for soccer and/or football games, because you can avoid the traffic. Most lots are adjacent to a trail. Check it out for one or more of these features when you get a chance.
