So much garbage in their mulch! We purchased 6 yards from Cedar grove this last week and I now have small bits of plastic EVERYWHERE. This plastic is never going away unless I hand pick it out which will take me years. Do not buy! read more

I went and got a yard of organic compost from Cedar Grove Compost. As I was unloading it and spreading it in my backyard I was pretty well shocked. It's NOT the "pure organic" compost they promised. I found 3 old batteries in there. Lots and lots of plastic bag material. Shards of glass as well as large unidentifiable pieces of hard rubber pieces. PLEASE DO NOT buy this stuff. Not good at all. I have used Cedar Grove products for years, mostly the booster blend, and I have been quite happy with it. If people are finding glass/plastic in it, then that's what people are putting into their yard waste, so those people need to do a better job, that's outside of Cedar Grove's control. Cedar Grove is providing a solution, keeping yard waste out of landfills. I think they do a good job. read more

So disappointed in the quality of this product. I purchased $100 worth of their topsoil and booster blend. Most of this purchase went to a raised bed we built for tomatoes. First set of plants withered and died within three days, mind you these were healthy medium sized plants. I initially blamed myself for my plants dying, but then looked over the soil for tomato planting 2.0 - the soil was like concrete, large round balls of soil that were almost too hard to break up with my hands. When I dug down a bit there was a layer of mold streaking through where my plants had been rooting. As other reviewers have mentioned the booster blend smelled absolutely awful and it wasn't nice and crumbly like other organic garden soils, it was really wet, muddy and difficult to work with. This soil was expensive and I am certain killed my plants. My second round of tomatoes had the same fate, with round 2 plants being very large, well established plants that already had fruit on them. I followed the sellers instructions precisely and within three days the plants turned yellow, withered and died. I also used this soil for transplanting herbs that promptly died (that were from last year and survived the winter) and a few perennials that died as well. What I noticed about the plants that are still alive is that the soil is hard as a rock with no breathability. I will not be using any Cedar Grove products in the future. read more

I used some top soil from Cedar Grove to seed some bare patches in my lawn. I also used some cheaper filler dirt in a bag from another company found at Lowes to seed some of the patches at the same time. The seed sewn in the Cedar Grove top soil performed much worse than the cheaper top soil from the other company. The Cedar Grove top soil was fairly chunky. I had to break down the chunks as best I could. I did not see where I had any foreign objects in the soil though. However, I won't be using this stuff again and it's over priced in my opinion. read more

I used their yard waste drop off service and was over charged. I have used them in the past and my vehicle was weighed on the way in and on the way out and I paid for the difference in weight. They no longer do this for non commercial loads. I have a small utility trailer which I loaded with brush/branches from trimmings from my rhododendrons and butterfly bush which are bulky and hard to compact in the trailer. I wasn't worried about trying to hard to compact them down because I thought I would be weighed. When I got there I was directed to a different locations and my trailer wasn't weighed. I had by load covered like you are suppose to so I described what I had. I was charged off a guess which seemed high to me. I won't use them again. read more

Beware of their Vegetable Garden Mix. I filled a large planter box with it and it turned to cement after a few rains. It is not only useless, but damaging to garden soil. I ended up having to remove it all and replace it with compost. What an expensive mistake! read more

I would not even give them one star if I could. I got organic mulch from them that came with plastic in it. Had heard good things from friends about the ,so thought I would give it a try. I now wish I had read the reviews before going there. Paid a fortune for the mulch too. Also watch what papers they want you to sign as they managed to damage one of our trees and because their paperwork at the very bottom released them from damages during delivery,they ended up paying us nothing to get rid of the tree. They did not even clean up the branches and stuff that came down when it happened. Will never go back. read more

i recently got compost from the Everett location and it was Garbage! 80% sticks and a very hard, fine compacted sand. 5-10% plastic pieces. i spoke with two former employees and they were surprised but that does not change the garbage that is now spread all over my yard. i have to break it up every time it rains because it gets super hard and plants can't penetrate it from below. not happy... read more

Terrible product. There was glass and plastics in the bagged compost. I will not buy again.

Last spring Advent Lutheran Garden of Giving in Mill Creek received compost from Cedar Grove. It was wonderful compost with no weed seeds. We filled our garden beds with your compost before we started planting and our garden has been very fruitful. We have donated over 400 pounds of veggies to the Everett food. (Volunteers of America). Product is highly offensive in the odor was unbearable. After delivery was told odor would dissipate in a few hours. After placing turf over the product it continued to smell. Turf had to be replaced because product was hot are not properly cured to qualify as compost and sod burned up. read more

I ordered 3 cu. yards of their Vegtable Garden Mix last fall. It was miserable stuff: gooey, sticky, and heavy. It was as if they had run out of sand but decided to deliver anyway. I had hoped it would mellow out over winter, but no such luck. Cedar Grove has very steep product and delivery charges: too bad the product quality does not match. read more

Buyer beware! Wish I had read other reviews first but who knew you needed to read reviews on compost?! Like others I was horrified to discover that the bulk compost I purchased from Cedar Grove contained a significant amount of plastic chunks, shreds, and other garbage mixed into it. I contacted Cedar Grove out of concern that this material that is marketed as "organic" has so much garbage in it - surely it must have been a bad batch? Nope - the spokesperson who contacted me said this contamination is allowed per the standards set by the WA legislature and US Composting Council (see http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=173-350-220). So Cedar Grove is in compliance with a bad standard - but as a self-proclaimed "environmental solutions company", it is not honestly advertising its product or itself. A back of the envelope calculation using an average weight for compost puts this allowable amount of garbage at ~7 lbs of garbage per yard of compost; when you consider how light plastic is, that's a lot of garbage to spread all over your yard and garden. read more
