I live 2 blocks away and people kept talking about the chicken sandwich at cedar local. I was like ok I need to check this place out. I went and they were soooo right! The chicken sandwich is to die for! It's all about the secret sauce! All the food is fabulous. But it doesn't end there! The drinks are made to perfection! 5 stars for the redemption. Went a few weeks back and was disappointed by the bartender service. I decided to give a second change and the 2 bartenders made up for the first experience we had. They followed up with ever drink and even offered a complementary taste of the duck patae that the chef was trying for the upcoming menu. Had the truffle aioli fries and just about every drink on the menu along with their extra special barrel aged whiskey which was perfectly paired with an orange wedge. The only drink I can say to stay away from the papi verde especially if you don't like cilatrono try the el primo instead which gives the kick without the herb (salsa verde taste) Bernardo & Danny the bartenders were amazing, great second experience and made up for everything! A week ago me and a coworker went to Cedar Local to have a few drinks after work. She ordered a very nice alcoholic warm drink and I ordered CAIPIRINHA (Brazilian national cocktail!) and for my surprise, the Caipirinha was delicious, very close to what we have in Brazil. I am sure they use good Cachaça to make it. Plus it has a good lemon flavor and it was not terribly sweet. It was perfect. The Nachos were good and disappointing at the same time. Not too much cheese and the portion was small. For that reason we ordered the Parmesan truffle fries (very very good) and cheese fritters (also very good). The place was packed, the music was very bad and the drinks are very expensive. If not for the Caipirinha, I would have given a 2 because who wants to pay $100 for 4 drinks and a few snacks? Very stylish bar but seems to be missing something. Bartenders seemed to be disconnected with the patrons. Ordered 2 drinks and neither really hit for me. One was so spicy it tasted as if you were drinking a taco with salsa verde in it. EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE. I thought this was going to be a great neighborhood find but NO. In addition to my experience, you'll see additional mentions about how terrible the service is if you scroll through all the reviews. Based on its hidden location in FiDi, it's a place that needs to depend on regulars and a good word of mouth. Sad to see that it has already alienated so many people. The bar is fine otherwise. Just risk being talked to like a child if anything goes wrong. Plenty of bars in the city where you can avoid this. I hope you avoid it too because we do not need to encourage rude behavior in this town. In case you want details, two things happened: 1) After a group outing my card was charged twice. It's not a big deal and has happened to me before so I called back to get a refund on one, which is easier for the restaurant to deal with than a credit card dispute. Not only did the manager CARLOS not apologize for this, he made me send my credit card statement to him in order to do so. When I told him this is fine but somewhat personal, and kind of unfair I had to invest additional time into correcting something the restaurant messed up on, CARLOS started talk to me as if I am a child, such as "I need proof" ''what I am asking you to do is very simple" "if I were you I would just send it in". I have never heard such condescending words in my life. Then he hung up the phone on me. Fine Carlos. I sent you a screenshot of my credit card statement which your staff made a mistake for. 2) This was more minor but now it all makes sense in context. The group ordered a bunch of drinks and snacks. The cheese plate came with half an apple, a string of grapes, and like a two tiny nibbles of cheese. My entire group thought the cheese portion was too small. When I jokingly pointed out to the server "this fruit plate needs more cheese!", she made a face and said "well then it would be more expensive." I guess that's one way to respond to feedback. Not the normal way though, and certainly not anywhere I would want to go back to. Restaurants make mistakes and it's totally fine. But acting as if you are better than everyone else and expecting me to work for you in order to correct your mistake, and then talking to me condescendingly is just EGREGIOUS. Food business in this town is competitive and hard enough as it is. Harder when you hire people who are RUDE. read more

Been here twice. Both times with a few friends. We were able to get seated pretty immediately, although there were a fair amount of people inside. Both times service was excellent, not sure what happened to the other reviewers on here. Just a heads up on the spot. It is not huge, not tiny. Wouldn't necessarily suggested it for huge groups. Great potential date spot for after work, or just grabbing a casual drink and some grub - which are both great here. read more

Don't miss this little gem, tucked in the heart of the Financial District. It serves a top Manhattan and an awesome Old Fashioned for starters. Carlos knows his liquors and mixes good drinks. My friend asked what flavors of margarita were available and if they did frozen margarita. The hostess brought the waiter over and the first thing the waiter said was; "does this place look like a bar that serves frozen margarita?" I couldn't believe what I heard!!!! And he did not stop there. He forgot my drink orders not only once, but twice. And when my friend asked for water, he pointed to the water jar across from the bar and told her to help herself next time. (First of all, we didnt know we had to do it ouraelves and secondly, Excuse me, waiter????) And then when he brought the check to us, he was like "I'm out of here for memorial wknd! *flickering back both his palms and dropping the bill on the table* So... yeah... I hope you are reading this and yeah, you were disgustingly rude. I don't know if u are the bartender ans maybe were covering for the waiter that didn't show up that day, but you shouldn't treat your customers as I was treated. I stopped in because it is on the Spring Tippler list. While not at the highest tier of NYC cocktail joints(e.g. the Dead Rabbit), this is easily in the second tier. Both the drinks I had were well made. The atmosphere is nice with no TV's blaring sports. I didn't try the food. It's a great place to have in this neighborhood. The ambience would seem to be fine, and the drinks, while way, WAY overpriced, are acceptable given that there are few options in the neighborhood. But goodness what rude people that run this place. One guy seemed great. But then his brother behind the bar appeared ready to pick a fight at any time and does not belong in the service industry. The manager is nearly as bad, as he actively provokes arguments with patrons, alienating multiple customers as reviews here show. Avoid it. This is 3.5 stars, but since its a locally owned business, I will round up. Tucked away on a somewhat low profile Cedar St, the place is modern, warmly designed, and a nice flow. They offer a lot of different unique cocktails, which were surprisingly only okay, with some of the "original" drinks were not very good. Between the "Old Money" "New Money" & Classics, there's almost too much to choose from. The draft list was decent (mostly 12 oz pours for a steep $9-10), but one of my beers tasted funny as if the tap lines and spout weren't properly cleaned. Also, most of the bartenders I found to be not that friendly, personable or attentive. This was on a Friday night where it wasn't that busy. Happy Hour is....odd. Its from 10pm to closing only. I guess that appeals to people working late hours downtown and they can drink the pain away before going home. The food looked good, and priced fairly. If I come back I definitely want to try some of their offerings. It definitely doesn't give the vibe that it has "local" regulars, but its also not posh enough to demand $16-20 cocktails. Absolute favorite local bar! Great music, PHENOMENAL cocktails, and awesome staff. If you love mezcal or are even remotely open to the idea of trying new drinks, this bar is for you. Excellent spot tucked away in the Financial District. My date and I shared delicious bites - the prosciutto flatbread (with ricotta cheese, arugula, and balsamic reduction) and mushroom arancini with Parmesan and truffle oil. They were both so yummy, we quickly goggled them up! They also had a nice and creative cocktail menu - I also enjoyed their summer special, the watermelon mojito. I'm surprised I never knew about this awesome lounge/bar earlier since it's so close to my apartment. I'm just a 5 block walk away and this hidden gem is something maybe just the locals know about. Upon entering past a dark heavy curtain you arrive and see this different world where the bartenders are in neat and fitted vests and where people dress smartly for all occasions. Dimly lit, yet never dark, this place will take you out of whatever mood you are in and leave you a blank slate to just relax. The crowd here seemed to be suits relaxing after a tough day. I myself was on a date here a little after dinner time and the amount of people and the atmosphere was perfect for a little romantic spot to let libations cool and relax us. And Oh man the drinks!!!! Wow they were good! I had a creation from the bartender known as the McQueen this scotch drink somewhat akin to an Old Fashion and was a drink to remind you what a man's drink should be. Strong flavored, with some fruity hints. My date had the Ladies Choice - which was a sweetened lightly lemony drink very very refreshing and not necessarily meant only for a lady. She thoroughly enjoyed it as she let me know later that evening. The food there was also very good - although i didn't get to sample everything - just what I've had so far was excellent! I really love the deep dark wood/ minimalist modern decor. The waitstaff are very attentive and they have happy hour specials on their beer and wine. I was truly very excited about this local watering hole as there aren't many cocktail bars in the area. The bartenders were very rude and didn't have too much knowledge of the cocktails. I had asked him what he recommended and he literally point at the menu and said everything was good. I then asked him if he could make something spicy and he said no, he could only make what's on the menu. I finally chose a random cocktail and saw him staring at the cocktail menu to get the drink recipe. To pay $15 for a cocktail that one could make at home is a little crazy to me. I first came here on a Monday kind of early (I think 6pm?) and sat at the bar and it was AMAZING: lots of room to sit down, great music (cool acoustic covers of pop songs) played at a volume where you could hear your companion, great cheese board, well-crafted cocktails (Whiskey Tea is amazing), and even free pizza to nosh on! I was in love! ...then I came on a Friday at happy hour time. And it was an entirely different crowd: it was frattier, and SO loud. I was screaming at my companion across the table and we couldn't hear each other, so we gave up and receded into our drinks. Not the kind of experience I personally seek out. I will say, the the truffle fries were good. But I really just couldn't get past the volume! In this context the expensive drinks felt overpriced, and incongruent with the fratty ambience. After this, I did not come back. Overall it's a good spot to visit and I recommend checking it out... if you happen to want cocktails in the FiDi early in the week. read more

This was my first time at Cedar Local. Being relatively new, I think it has a lot of potential. The space is great, and I'm looking forward to having another fun spot to go to in the neighborhood. I went with some friends. They enjoyed the drinks and especially the beers there. We shared a couple of their plates, as well. I will just say, maybe the menu will change as they grow, but they have basically a menu of bar appetizers. We had some plates of plantain nachos, sliders, a meat plate, and the meatballs in some kind of soup. The sliders were actually very good and probably the most satisfactory item on the menu. The rest of the items were not as filling or as good. The plantain nachos had a lot of potential but the flavors just didn't blend and they didn't put enough toppings on it. The meat plate was a little skimpy. Nobody at our table was satisfied or full so we went to another place and had dinner after our drinks here. The beer was nice. The choices were vast and everyone tried several different things. The service was super slow. Partially probably due to their newness. It was hard to get the attention of servers and we had to ask several times to several people for anything we wanted. Our water glasses were never filled, and our orders came out at very different times and some of them probably sat waiting for us for a while as some were no longer hot when they got to us. I have a lot of hope for this spot and the space is ridiculously charming. I will try it again in hopes I went on an off night and in hopes of a menu change to have better more filling options. read more

Had a couple mixed drinks that tasted "off" - think bad ice was the culprit. Switched to beer. Unfortunately warm beer. I live up the street and come here very often. Everything is always super good. The cocktails are delicious, if you don't know what you want just ask the bartender to make you something and tell him what you like and it'll be delicious. Horrible service. This is not a huge establishment and it was not extremely crowded at 5:30 pm on a Friday. No one greeted me when I entered or as I walked around the room to get the lay of the land. I finally said excuse me 3x, increasingly louder, to a waitress walking past me and asked if I needed a reservation to take a table. She pointed me to a man behind the bar and told me I had to ask him. I lucked out that there was a table available. And I was told I could have that one. One of our party waited too long for her first round. She got her lukewarm food before her drink. A server delivered our food and my friend calmly told him she had not received her drink yet. He left and the waitress came over (not quickly) and defensively said that she ordered her drink and that she just had to wait for it. Really??!! The truffle fries were not hot at all. When asked for another batch, we received fries that were lukewarm on the top. My friend decided she didn't want them at all, because they were also not hot. The server became defensive, saying he threw the other fries out and these were new. Two of us decided to keep the fries to make it less trouble for the server. The 2nd fries were lukewarm on top and just warm toward the bottom. Why are we, the customers accommodating the wait and kitchen staff for below par food and service??!! The kitchen is only a few feet away, not sure why hot fries are an issue, unless they are just microwaving food. The drinks were decent enough to order another round, but the waitress never checked on us and asked if we wanted anything else. When it was brought to her attention, she said that we should have called her. Again, REALLY??!! Also, a different server came to our table with drinks we didn't order. Reminder, this is a small establishment that was just moderately crowded. Can't imagine what it's like when it's really crowded. Great time, every time! Been here twice and both times did not disappoint. The music and overall vibe is great. If you like Spanish/Hispanic music, this bar is for you! Especially at night when all the Spanish music comes out. The bartenders and servers are friendly and quite attentive, even on a busy Saturday night with only one server attending all the tables. The drinks are well-made! FYI, after 10pm-close they have a $10 drink special for select drinks which will leave you pretty happy after one drink! Also the food has been pretty incredible. I definitely recommend the kielbasa and pretzel platter. Let's just say I am not usually a big fan of pretzels, but was quite surprised as how tasty this whole platter was!
