    Steak sandwich

Had it on my radar to try the late night happy hour for a while and was finally in the area to try it recently! The steak sandwich (not on HH) was really good, the papas bravas (was on HH) were decent but to me didn't feel like a true papas bravas as the potatoes didnt have the right crisp and chipotle mayo less spicy than expected. Delicious, albeit a little pricey! Good selection on the happy hour drinks and friendly service.

I was taken here to lunch on Thursday and thoroughly enjoyed. I was in a party of 5 and we all enjoyed our meals. I had the grilled chicken and veggies and it was cooked to perfection. My coworkers had pasta, chicken dishes and a sandwich and the all liked their meals. This place to me is a hidden gem. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is lively and upbeat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Looked like a great place to go for drinks after work as well. The only negative was it took a while to be seated and we were a bit confused why and they chose to wash windows why we were dining which I thought was a bit strange. Other than that I really enjoyed and would definitely go back!

Went for drinks and light bites on a Thursday evening. The bar was full but was able to grab a table without a reservation. I got the Rochester Rally (basically an old fashioned) which was tasty. The other person got The Alchemist which was refreshing and wasn't spicy at all (even though it had Japanese chile). We shared the Hanover Steak and Cheese Sandwich which was okay (had a weird meat taste) but the Gruyère cheese made up for it. Also had the Papas Bravas which would've been great if the texture was a bit softer (the finger lake potatoes were a bit undercooked) but the smoky aioli was tasty. Then shared a glass of red cab which was delicious. The service was top notch and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Would come back for cocktails and try the other small plates.

Tanqueary 10 martini and olives on the side

The problem with NYC is that exactly what you need will magically appear, if you wait long enough. How the hell am I supposed to quit that?!? Background: I moved back upstate in 2020 after 15 years in Manhattan. I've visited several times since then, but this was my first time back to the office in three years. My coworker friend and I wanted a quiet bar where we could catch up and relax. Unfortunately, she had laryngitis. Doubly unfortunate: our office moved to FiDi in early 2022, a stone's throw from Stone Street. Quiet bars are not what finance bros are looking for. We walked into several bars, hoping for one where we could get two seats together and hear each other. Honestly, I never thought we'd find a thing. And then we stumble upon Harry's. In a sea of loud, crowded Stone Street bars, this gorgeous art deco train car-inspired bar appeared as though we'd conjured it. Sedate. Refined. Uncrowded. I worried they weren't open; why else was it not packed to the gills?? In a word, they were incredible. My friend asked if they could make a hot toddy for her, and boy howdy could they ever. Christian used his butane crème brûlée torch to scorch some lemon, and added a drained star anise to the finished product. Utter elegance. As for me, when I saw they had Tanqueray 10, my favorite gin, I knew I needed a martini. Christian asked if I wanted olives or a twist; I said that I loved olives but a twist probably paired better with this delicate gin. Reader, Christian rocks. He gave me a crisp clean martini, olives chilling--with the remainder of my martini--on ice in a separate glass. I've actually had this before, from a bartender friend, and it is the perfect way to have a martini. Let the gin do it's delicate, herbaceous, floral thing, and still treat your palate to a briny olive, but without the olive disturbing the balance of the martini. Delectable gamechanger of happiness. Friendly service. Amazing ambiance. Top-shelf liquor. Competitive prices. Knowledgeable staff. Look, I'm not saying I conjured Harry's Side Bar into existence. But Harry's Side Bar was exactly what we needed, in the middle of a swamp of what we hoped to avoid. Get to this oasis ASAP.

I am SO glad we did. The vibe drew us in, they had great music bumpin from the outside, it looked lively and welcoming. Let me tell you- I would have skipped dinner and just stayed here all evening if it was my choice! But alas, my husband wanted a bit more to eat. But let me tell you- their knowledge of wine is PRISTINE! I can't tell you what white wine we had but they captured our tastes perfectly. We also shared a bruschetta and it was deliciouso! I love how friendly the staff was here and how unpretentious it all was. Next time we are in NYC- we will definitely make a point to come visit Rake!

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

Thank you to my lovely friend who spent who knows how long trying to get a reservation here. Chilled celtuce (4/5): is it a combination of celery and lettuce? idk but it kinda reminded me of radish, with a clean/slightly bland flavor but it had this hydrating quality to it and a nice crunch. Sesame shao bing (5/5): a literal drug in the most innocuous and tasty form of flatbread. It has the crispiest flake on the outside with a perfectly chewy doughiness to it and a literal slab of butter inside, which melts in real time (careful not to go too ham and let it dribble down your arms and get all over your clothes...because it's just THAT good). Sweet & sour short rib (4/5): the cook on these short ribs were super tender, I just think the marinade was very strong, with a particularly vinegary aroma. Eight treasure rice pudding with sticky toffee (4/5): she's a 4 only because I don't like toffee, but the rice pudding was hands down heavenly. Service was solid, and they have a chic, dim ambience for the tables inside whereas the outdoor seating sits underneath the lanterns and soaks up the streets of Chinatown, so each have a merit of its own.

Appreciate the quality service and the intriguing menu; the food does come pricey, but there are some interesting innovation to make it a worthwhile one time experience. Zhong Zi - One of the best wrapped glutinuous rice I've had; its impressive how light they made the rice so it isn't all consuming on the belly. Celtuce - Impressive dish that transforms simple ingredients into a show stopper; the celtuce is tender and performs great osmosis to absorb that addictive vinaigarette. The crisp onion adds a delightful depth and texture. Cheung Fun - The cheung fun technique needs to be improved as the rice crepe is too thick, especially when the competition is at at all time high just within blocks. The command on textures is very nice with the crisp vegetable filling and saline burst of roe. However, the salinity of roe plus the soy needs sweetness to balance the saline forward dish. Beef Short Rib - Addictively sumptuous short rib in a fruit candied sweet and savory glaze. The beef falls off the bone with ease and goes together with their rice so harmoniously. Sticky Rice Pudding - Brilliant adaptation of the sticky toffee pudding; I never realized how well a sticky rice could pair so well with the muscovado caramel until this dish. Don't miss this. The hwe crudo was refreshing and delicious, and the salad was also a standout -- bright, crisp, and really well-balanced. But the best thing we had by far was the dak mandu, the crab/chicken dumplings. Those alone are worth coming back for. The ssam lettuce wraps were good, though they read a little more like Jewish brisket with a spicy bean sauce than what I expected from a Korean lettuce wrap. Still tasty, just a different vibe. Honestly, this would've been a 5-star meal if I didn't leave with three mosquito bites. Great food, great service, great wine -- just maybe bring bug spray.
