Cedar Village is another great retirement community in Cincinnati. It's a not-for-profit community in Mason that was founded in 1997 following the merger of two Cincinnati Jewish nursing homes, although residents don't have to be Jewish. They have a 162-bed Medicare and Medicaid certified Health Care Center featuring 24-hour nursing care, Alzheimer's and related dementia care, and Hospice Care. Cedar Village also has the Oak View and Fountain View Apartments, 105 independent/assisted living apartments. Cedar Village also has a rehabilitation center to assist with recovery following illness, injury, or surgery. The rehab center includes special therapy, flat screen TVs and DVD players in every room, refrigerators, a DVD library, "Wii-habilitation," and Coffee and Popcorn Stations. Cedar Village is in its 11th year but it is extremely nice and very clean and still has that brand new look to it. It's a really good place for people who need to live there, it's comprehensive with all of the different levels of provided care, and there is even a kosher deli, a gift shop, two beauty salons, libraries, an on site bank and both Reform and Orthodox rabbis. When my family visited my great grandmother we liked the deli because we could eat with her and feel like we were taking her out to lunch. In addition to the great staff at Cedar Village, the retirement community also has a large number of "Junior" and Adult volunteers, and they also have a pet therapy program where you can bring in your pets with you. Cedar Village is also the home to number of community events, not limited to its residents, including Israel celebrations and the annual Cedar Village Golf Classic at The Ridge Club. For Cedar Village residents there are a number of fun activities and events including "Dancing in the Deli," a fashion show, the Cedar Village Choir, and a number of musical guests and programs. While my great grandmother lived at Cedar Village, we knew she living at a great place, dedicated to comfort and care. read more

Both parents have been living there and we kee begging them to move. The place is filthy, the carpets are even worse and there is no regard to resident safety. The nurses are I'll equipped and on the very rare chance there is a good one they won't be there long because they are overworked and underpaid. Same with the aides. Management will tell you anything to get you to move there or switch rooms if it's to their advantage and they charge you for every little thing. Even if they don't do it - you will be charged. Beware! If I could do half a star I would. The half would be for the employees that DO try to do what's best for the residents. read more

It's not what it used to be. My husband stayed here for rehab back in 2009. The experience was OK. Nothing exceptional but he wasn't neglected. So when my mother needed rehab after a hospital stay and Cedar Village was recommended I convinced her it was an OK place. Boy was I wrong. She is on pain medication every 4 hours and she would be lucky to get it at all. They were so bad at giving her the medication she began stashing her own supply so she could actually take it on time. She went 3 weeks without eating because the food was so bad. Her bed rail was broken so she had to be careful to make sure she didn't fall out. Most of the time her call button was broker. Not that it mattered, when you pushed the call button it would take 30-45 minutes for someone to even check to see what you needed much less help you. My mother was left sitting on a bed pan (in pain) for over an hour after she hit the call button waiting for someone to take her off. She called me more than once at 2 or 3 am crying because she couldn't get anyone to help her. Some of the staff was actually abusive and nothing was done about it when you complained. The only reason she stayed is because she liked the Physical Therapy staff though I can't say it was worth it. She was in quarantine for the first 10 days so wasn't even allowed to get any. The quarantine made no sense since the staff would come in and out (some not wearing masks) so if she had anything they all would have been exposed anyway. I honestly think it's just their way of making you stay longer because when we did finally try to leave the management staff became rude. And now any bad reviews posted, management just puts a note that ownership has changed but we were there in October and ownership changed in April of 2022. According to any of the staff you talk to, things are not getting any better. read more

Its a black hole. They are nice before you move in, then you cant even get anyone to answer an email, let alone talk to you. I have to ask 3+ times for everything. Nothing but aides and they are snippy with you when you ask for something. read more

Horrible food, many of the nurse aids are not interested in anything but getting a paycheck. The building is beautiful, room very nice, but it is a shame that is only nice thing. They don't turn on air conditioning until May so if you have allergies or can't take the heat stay away. The PT dept. very good. They need to work on the rest! Food not fit to eat. read more

This place is the worst for physical rehabilitation. Can never get any one to respond when severe physical pain. Do not come here expecting any assistance. The are either overcapacity or greatly understaffed. Takes typically 20-35 minutes to get any help after assistance button is pressed. On top of this food and food service is dismal. Cold meals, minuscule portions, styrofoam containers & cups and fragile plastic knives/forks which are worthless. On multiple occasions I had to call the main outside line to ask for assistance after waiting over half an hour after pressing nurse call button. Can't stress enough how bad this place is. NEW INFO: Thought it couldn't get any worse? Wrong! Don't eat in this place. All the glass wear is filthy. 4 days in a row the glass where in the dining facility is disgusting. Not just water spots all over every glass in the room, but dried food all over everything as well. TheN to top it off, after noticing a funky taste to the juice at breakfast, a personal examination of the juice bottles revealed 6 out of 6 had long expired sell by dates, SOME AS OLD AS 2010 (ITS NOW LATE 2015)!!!! This is a health hazard. Complaints have just resulted in all the juices being put into plastic dispenser bottles so no one can check dates. COINCIDENCE???? This place needs a serious inspection by the Warren County Health Department. read more

This facility is disgusting. I worked here through a temp agency. Half way through my shift I come to find out that one of the rooms on the hall I was working on had bed bugs! I asked to leave early (giving them 2 hours to find coverage for my shift instead of just walking out like I should have!) and they told me that I was over exaggerating about BED BUGS! they claimed to have it contained to one room. I don't buy it! All it takes is ONE bed bug to transfer onto a staffs clothing and they could easily be spread all over the building. They refused to let me leaving saying they would not sign my time sheet for the hours i already worked then threatened to report me to state for abandonment. All this facility cares about is what they portray to the people who pay them. They don't care about there staff and they don't care to run short! I'm not surprised they cannot keep staff when they treat them like they don't matter! Yes this looks like a nice facility, but the care is poor. read more

I've seen a lot of assisted living facilities and this is amazing. Everything is new and there is free wifi throughout. There are 3 synagogues on site (reform, conservative and orthodox) and all meals are kosher. There a lots of on site activities and clubs and everyone is so friendly. read more

We paid to have my mother admitted for 2 weeks In-patient Physical Therapy (out of pocket when the discharging hospital was not able to obtain pre-certification). We pulled her out after 18 hours. In those 18 hours she was fed a bowl of rice krispies without milk. The nurses were giving her medication and they didn't know what it even was. We let them have a day's worth of time and took my mother home. Her room by the way reeked of urine. This is not the place to send a loved one. read more

Looking for a job at this place? Take my advice... KEEP LOOKING! Here's my experience with interviewing at Cedar Village: Upon entering the facility, fifteen minutes early for my interview, I had to wait while the receptionist finished her conversation with another employee about their personal lives. When I was finally acknowledged, I got the impression that I was bothering her as she did not smile and never asked my name. She just said, "Someone will be with you soon". Well, there was no "soon" about it; the time for my interview came and went as I was still sitting in the lobby fifteen minutes after my scheduled time. The HR Director did not come out to greet me; instead she told the receptionist to send me to her office. I wandered through the maze of hallways, asking three people for directions, finally finding the HR office. The director had someone else in her office and waved her hand for me to sit in her messy outer office until she was "ready" for me. I waited for another five minutes. Once I made it into the director's office, she began by complaining about her job and how busy she was. She sat me at a table scattered with other people's resumes clearly in view while she dug for my information through the cluttered pile. She began the interview by insulting me on the style of my cover letter by saying, "see, this won't do! I see some problems here!" and proceeded to chastize my writing style and etc. I found her rude and unprofessional in both actions and appearance. This woman had two weeks to read my information and had already spoke to me twice on the phone. She had plenty of time beforehand to look at my information and make a decision. Even if she did not like my writing style, she could have been professional about it and not behaved the way she did. She treated me inferior and rude. I have never been treated in such a way during an interview. No one deserves to be treated with such disrespect; especially during an interview. Even if I were offered a million dollars, I would not ever want to work for such an organization. Needless to say, would I recommend anyone to consider this place for employment? Absolutely not! I can only imagine how the employees and residents are treated behind the scenes. A note to the CEO: Branding should always be considered. Reputation is everything. Every employee is a potential marketer for the organization. read more

I recently spent a week at Cedar Village in rehab following surgery. I was disappointed in the facility after the review I had gotten about it from the hospital. The facility and the grounds were beautiful and the room was also very nice. My biggest disappointment was the food. I could not eat any of their meals except for breakfast which consisted of packaged cereal, juice, and coffee. They had a wonderful deli on the main floor where I could get lunch using my room number. The food and desserts there were excellent. Fortunately I had family that could go out and get supper for me. I met many nice and helpful assistants and nurses while there and as with any other place, some were there to just collect their paycheck. I needed a minimal amount of help with showering each night and all the assistants except for the last night were very helpful. The last evening when I asked for help the assistant informed me I was only on the schedule for a shower 2 times a week. This was very upsetting and if this would've come up sooner, I would have left Cedar Village much sooner. For those who want a shower everyday, this should be accommodated. I had heard the PT OT departments were very highly rated. Somedays I did have the priviledge of working with some very good therapists and other days I was disappointed in the lack of work they did with me. As with any other facility of this kind you need to be your own advocate for the type of care you get and if it does not seem right then you need to talk to a someone about your concerns. If you have an elderly family member there it is very important that you are checking on their care and meals. read more
