I had been visiting Matsu-Chan a few times a year since 2009 when I was a university student in the…read moreJapanese [language] minor program and a lot of my classmates would also frequent. After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive.

Others following us added their names to the waitlist. The restaurant is small with just a handful of tables. One chef, it appears, prepared all the meals. I barely glanced at the menu; I already knew I was having the ramen. The only question was which one. My friend selected the eel bowl while I had the miso pork soup. The latter was served with sliced pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed. The broth was full of flavor; I enjoyed every slurp. I appreciated that the meal was sizeable and inexpensive - I was able to stretch it to two meals. We did not linger given the number of people waiting.

After she took our order, my food arrived, but I wasn't given any silverware. At the same time, my wife's meal was still sitting in the kitchen and had not been brought out. My food sat on the table for another 15 minutes before Fiona finally returned with silverware and the rest of our order. By the time I was able to eat, my food was ice cold. This was by far the worst restaurant experience I've had in Westland. The owners need to take a hard look at their staffing and service standards. This level of service is unacceptable, and the staff needs significant improvement.

The wait staff are very friendly and service was very good. I tried their steak out which was very flavorful and the mashed potatoes definitely tasted real! The steak was cooked just the way I love it medium well. My husband got the veal Parmesan and it tasted good. I would say their sauce was just okay. We will definitely come back and try out some other dishes. I couldn't get over how expensive their fountain pop ($3.50). Almost wish I got it to go since it was that expensive. They definitely have a lot of options on their menu.

Service is very attentive without being obsequious. My coffee and water never got below half before refills were offered. The venue is small-ish, but now over-stuffed with tables. Plenty of space for the staff and customers to move without any bump & grind. I was catching-up with an olde friend and they did not rush us out the door. Thank you very much. One caution; it was noisy this morning.

If they dont have one ready sometimes theyll let you pick one thats just been finished but not cleaned and theyll clean it off as you sit down kinda thing. The vibe isnt anything fancy, basic diner chairs/rubbery plastic seats that have seen better days. But the coffee is always hot, and they keep bringing it by. The owner herself walks around chatting and pouring the coffee, shes this short European (maybe) woman with a bit of an accent but she's incredibly sweet! Her daughter also works there with her husband which i find so sweet. As i said the coffee is always hot, the food is always fresh and doesn't take long even on a busy morning with a packed restaurant! I dont know how they keep up sometimes but they do! If you like fish, go on a Friday night for fish fry and you wont be disappointed! The fish is crispy/crunch, hot and absolutely delicious. This is my favorite place to get a fish fry! And the best part about this place is? Its hella affordable, so be nice and tip those guys they deserve it

The first two times, I ordered over the phone, then drove 20 minutes to pick up two mango smoothies, only to wait 43 minutes after arriving. There were barely any customers, so waiting over an hour total was completely unreasonable. Today was even worse. My boyfriend ordered summer rolls and spring rolls and clearly specified multiple times that we only wanted shrimp, since I have a severe pork allergy. He drove 30 minutes from work, only to be told the order still wasn't ready and had to wait another 18 minutes. When he got home, I checked the food (as I always do) and found pork in my "only shrimp" summer rolls. I called, and they told us to bring them back and they would remake them right away. We drove another 20 minutes back, only to wait an additional 18 minutes because, once again, the food was not ready. This place is overpriced, understaffed, and unreliable. More importantly, they do not take food allergies seriously, which is unacceptable.
