Uh-oh, I thought, when I walked in - this is more of a store selling an impressive assortment of wares that happens to have a deli counter. Never fear, Loaf & A Pound is here! They're both. I came here this particular trip for an assortment of sandwiches for myself and a hungry family. But my interest is piqued for coming back for an entire store full of rare treats and fresh goodies. We got a nice assortment - The Don, Enforcer, Big Earner, Cosa Nostra - and they were all amazing. My kids talk about Big Earner even weeks later when I mention going to an inferior (but closer to my house) sub place. The counter staff was pleasant and courteous, and I enjoyed my wait with a fun group of people in line. Whether you want some Italian groceries, or deli meats to go, or an amazing lunch that beats the pants out of some of the local chain competition - Loaf & A Pound won't disappoint! First of all, While I was waiting for the food I was so amazed and shocked that the family that owes this deli knew everyone who walked into the place by name and had parts of their order ready . Just off of the customer service alone, this place deserves 5 stars. Since this was my first time, I decided to try their heavy hitter since I'm familiar with French dip style sandwiches and I absolutely love hot roast beef sandwiches. I did not disappoint at all, it was juicy, cheesy and filled me up without any additional sides. I also bought two of their cannolis (one Bavarian cream, the other ricatta) and they were super yummy and delicious. ***DELIZIOSO*** We had tried to stop in last week and they were completely sold out. I thought then that the food must be good and we made plans to return again soon. I'm so glad that we did. The proprietors must be Italian because you can taste their heritage in the food. I've driven past this tiny storefront more times than I can remember on my was to a larger bakery that, while I wasn't completely happy with, they seemed like my only choice. I've found my new Italian bakery! I ordered a simple sandwich of just Tomato, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil with balsamic splashed on. The flavor was fresh and I can't wait to taste again once tomatoes are actually in season. (The only thing that might have made my lunch more authentic tasting was if the sub bun had been replaced with a nice piece of focaccia - but you can't win 'em all) The cannolo beats the other bakery hands down. It was real ricotta (not a gelatinous cream) in a crispy shell. The boys had "The Big Earner" sub and cup of each soup, wedding and potato, but I can't give much of a review as they were both finished practically before I could unwrap mine. Selection of pre-packaged sides is ... two: potato salad & pasta salad. Soup is available. I did not order/sample it. So why only 2 stars? Way too little meat and cheese for almost $8 (incl tax). The primary flavors were bread and gairdinera. Gonellas' almost $8 sub is a considerably better value and much more tasty ... certainly worth the short drive. Came upon this wonderful sandwich / Italian Deli shop sorting through Yelp reviews and all I can say that it was a delightful experience. They totally exceeded my expectations. They were very helpful in walking me through the menu as I always inquire as to what's the top sellers. She recommended The Don - which is your typical Italian sub. They also had a monthly sub - called the Dirty Giuseppe which has Italian roast beef, salami, provolone, mozz, and garlic - wow - and it's toasted. She recommended wheat bread for that one - much obliged. The bread is made at a local bakery so I gotta try this out. The desserts looked decadent so they walked me through as they had 4 different cannolis that looked so good, I ended up getting lemon meringue, original ricotta, and the chocolate ganache. I got everything to go but it looked so appetizing as I watched them assemble my order that I had to sit down and take a bite of everything just to be sure - and wow - I'm so glad I did because everything was so delicious! I ended up eating a half of each sub and a couple of bites of the lemon Meringue and the ricotta cannoli - which was spot-on! They tasted so creamy fresh and quality good, I do highly recommend. I must tell you - probably the best cannolis I've ever had, hands down. Oh the bread was superb! Soft goodness, the Don did not disappoint as now I know why it's their top sub but that Giuseppe on wheat was damn awesome I tell ya! Great crunch from the bread, the ingredients blended together so well, the garlic hit the spot. They also make their own Italian and Vinegar dressings that go onto the sandwiches so I naturally had to get some on the side. This place totally won me over as they surprised me with the great service and the quality ingredients. I had a very fresh ham, capicola and provolone sub on a freshly baked soft bun. The family was friendly and I found out that they loved doggies. My GsD was treated to a piece of turkey. This is the real deal. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The Italian bread and as pound of select meat for $8 bucks is an amazing deal. Forget other "select" brands of deli meats and i suggest you try their deli meats. Awesome quality and cheaper than the "select" brands. While you are in there definitely try one of their sandwiches. I really like Loaf and Pound for lunch. You can get in and out in less than an hour. And I love the folks who run the counter at lunch - they call me Mortadella because of my unnatural love for the stuff (at least that's why I hope they call me that...). The interior is small and basic. My favorite sandwiches are the Cosa Nostra, The Don and the Italian, all If which are kind of similar but taste different. They use fresh mozzarella balls, sliced to order. They slice their meats for each sandwich. They have a monthly sandwich special too. A couple of helpful hints: If your sandwich comes with peppers, ask for options because their spicy peppers make the sandwich for me! Their bread options include a hard roll and a soft roll. The hard one is more traditional but it's work to eat and tears up my mouth. The soft roll is my preferred choice. Take home half of your sandwich. Their sandwiches are big, and if you're not a championship eater plus you get the combo (comes with chips or a salad plus a soda) you'll likely have some leftover. It holds up well. Get more spicy peppers on the side. Their name is also a special they have daily. A loaf of pre-sliced Italian bread and a pound of lunch meat (basic ham, basic turkey and some damn fine salami). This place is clean and charming. It's a simple set up with tables to the left and the deli counter to the right. Along the back wall is a display of a few selected coffees and sausages for sale. Order from a menu board behind the corner, and your sandwich is made fresh. They have three kinds of fresh bread, soft white, hard white, and wheat. There are a wide variety of sandwiches or you can make a special selection when your own meat and cheese choices. They offer a different soup daily. Chips are available as well as homemade deli salads which are prepackaged in a cooler near the drink choices and cashier counter. Try the Italian slaw! It is delicious with typical coleslaw vegetables, but it's own special sauce. The dressing is super tangy and not at all sweet. It makes for a delicious salad. I may call ahead to order larger quantities of it because it is so good. The bread for the sandwiches is perfect. It's plenty soft, but firm enough to his the delicious sandwich fixings. It carries good flavor, too. The meat and cheese used here are high quality and fresh. Simple sandwich dressings of mayonnaise and Italian pull the protein together with the lettuce, tomatoes, and bread. Service here is quick and friendly. It seems there are lots of regulars, too. I saw a segment on Local 4 Tasty Tuesday and had to try this place. It is now my go to place for sandwiches. My favorite sandwich is the Cosa Nostra. It is salami, mortadella, capicolla, provolone, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, and house basalmic dressing. It is so good! The roasted red pepper is a great addition in an Italian sub. My husband likes the 4Ps-prosciutto and provolone with Italian dressing. Portions are very generous. Desserts are really good. We've had the ricotta cannolis and tiramisu-again, so good!! Today they had a caramel brownie that looked delicious, but I did not get it. I'm sure it is good. I am never out in this area but I was running an errand and it was lunchtime and i was HANGRY. I am so glad I stumbled upon this place. First of all the ladies behind the counter were SO nice and friendly. I ordered the Cosa Nostra and boy was it delicious. It was huge. I could really only eat half!!! The sandwich was chocked full of thinly sliced meats and fresh delicious cheese. I can never turn down a cannoli so of course I snatched one of those up as well. Listen. I am a cannoli snob. What I loved is that they had both a riccota filled and a creamed filled. I didn't have the highest expectations but it was amazing. If you are in the area you NEED to pick one up. In the area for work and found Loaf & A Pound on Yelp. It was a good meal! The service was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful. I had the Spicy Italian and it was great (4 napkins good). It was on soft Italian bread (very good) and had a generous amount of meat. The house made Italian dressing complimented the meats, cheese and bread. But here's what makes it five stars, the spicy peppers. They have mild, medium and hot (giardiniera). They were generous and gave me the medium and hot on the side so I could sample both. I liked both but preferred the flavor of the medium (red peppers). After finishing lunch a purchased two cannolis (one traditional and one peanut butter) as well as a piece of limoncello cake to take home. Happy spouse = Happy house... and she was happy. I've never been to Italy, but they were at least as good as any other Italian bakery I've been to. I would happily return if I'm ever back in the neighborhood. read more
