The band was Row Jomah and will be playing at GMF this year. There was a GMF rep on board promoting the event. I'm not sure why - it seems like it's over packed every year anyway (I've been every year since inception). But I digress.... The band was awesome, the ride was so much fun, we got off when they were done and went back to James Joyce for another drink. Rode the streetcar back to downtown where our cars were and had such a great time! Need to ride the streetcar more often!!!

The Streetcar takes you from Ybor City to Tampa Downtown. It runs every 12 minutes and it was an easy way to get from Ybor to Tampa. We actually stayed about 20 minutes away but took an Uber to the train station daily once we found out how convenient it was to travel this way. I highly recommend staying outside of Tampa and using the Streetcar. My only gripe was that it was 98+ degrees daily and many of the operators of the cars did not have the AC running. I was shocked when we boarded trains where the air wasn't running.

The bus was clean, mostly quiet and the seat was comfortable enough for a short ride. The bus was late, but it was likely so because of the festival going on downtown with traffic diversions and all sorts of other nonsense. Not the worst I've ever ridden. The public transportation is FREE to everyone at this time. They use to charge for this transportation but not sure why it is free at this time. Take advantage of this as it's a cool way to explore the city. Streetcars arrive every 15 minutes so the wait time isn't bad at all. We stayed at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street and the TECO station was located right out front, Station 10 at Dick Greco Plaza. There are 11 stations total. We ended up going all the way to Station 1 just to scope out the city and see what looked interesting to stop at. We passed so many cool spots including The Florida Aquarium, Amalie Arena, Sparkman Wharf, Cruise Terminals, Centro Ybor and Centennial Park. We took the streetcar back and decided to stop by Sparkman Wharf. Such a cool spot for good eats. The TECO Line Streetcar System is a BOMB!!! The kids loved it. Highly recommend this choice of transportation.

We took the #5 bus straight to Busch Gardens and saved a bundle on parking! It was a 30 minute ride in air conditioned comfort. We did have an issue where our Flamingo veteran's pass did not work and the customer service had a handprinted sign "Be back soon" and we waited, but finally had to catch the bus. Another person in line was in the same boat. One young man eventually did get help adding money to his pass, but by then our bus was leaving! His bike was already loaded on our bus, so I alerted the driver and he stopped and waited a few seconds, just enough for the young man to run over and board. When we got back five hours later the same sign was up and again we waited but no one came back soon. Lots of disappointed folks like us that day. Behind the building a woman in her transit uniform was talking on her phone. I wondered if she was the one taking so many long breaks?

The Port of Tampa Bay is unbelievably organized and is perhaps the best place to board/disembark from a cruise ship anywhere. They operate on a staggered boarding process where you claim a time to board days before you leave and are well-staffed and clean. My group of 15 and I were very content with our experience here in mid-March 2026. We had a 10:30am boarding time reserved. Disembarkment is a bit more unorganized than boarding - it ended up being a bit more "open world" vs "linear" getting outta there if we are speaking in video game terminology. Nonetheless, the Port of Tampa Bay is a well-oiled machine and I wouldn't mind if I needed to go through here on any future cruises.

One of the things I loved about her taking the train we were able to be with her until the train left. It was MUCH cheaper for her to take the train to Miami instead of fly. I think around $50 vs well over $100 to fly. It may take longer than flying but the price difference can make the difference between getting to where you want to go or not. We took the Tampa Black History tour before we came to the train station. Learned that B.B. King, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, use to come through here and cross the street to play at the historic Jackson house. (Pictured...it's in bad shape, but they are hoping to restore it. I recommend telling travelers to follow the signs to the parking lot on the east side and picking them up there until the construction is completed.
