Complimenting the mode of transportation, the Streetcar system also offers a very fun/entertaining way to get around. It can definitely be fascinating to be able to ride earlier technology that existed prior to modern day mobiles. The streetcars travels probably no more than 30mph at any given time - slowing down and speeding up between to adjust the other local traffic patterns and conditions. So with that being said, if you're looking at travelling the entire length (between Stop 1 and 11), I would safely dedicate 45 minutes for that trip. We never had to wait long at any stop before getting on (plus you have a link above to help you manage the time a bit better). Route-wise, you will be able to see and access the neater areas of Downtown Tampa and the Ybor District. The stops/stations are rather well thought, designed and planned. All stations offers an ADA-accessible ramp. Yes, sometimes the cars get packed, but that's with any public transportation system - definitely something to consider when it comes to understanding the local events happening in town and how that would potentially impact the line. This is a very convenient and fun way to travel between Ybor City, the Channel District, and downtown Tampa. And, did I mention that it's FREE? (Feb, 2024). There are 11 stations, starting at Centennial Park in Ybor City, and ending at the Whiting Street Station in downtown Tampa -- taking about 25 minutes from start to end. (We used the Whiting Street Station to access the Tampa Riverwalk). The trolleys are very frequent, running every 15 minutes in general, and every 12 minutes on Friday-Saturday-Sunday during peak hours (1-9 pm). They also start running early (7 am most days, or 8:30 on Sat and Sun) and end late (11 pm on most days; 2 am on Fri and Sat). The streetcars are well-maintained, and all are wheelchair accessible. Both conductors we encountered were friendly and helpful. We also felt safe on the streetcars, both in the afternoon and in the evening. Overall, a great experience. read more

What a fun way to get around Tampa. My wife and I hopped on the Street car across from our hotel (Marriott Waterside) and took it to Ybor City and back. Enjoyed the ride (though at times the views were less than spectacular) and our driver each way was good and funny. Car was very clean. We took the car also the end point in downtown Tampa and it was interesting how the driver reversed the position of the seats before starting back to Ybor City. Go and enjoy a free ride! read more

This is so convenient for travel and it comes so frequently. We were able to take it down to Ybor and back. It was safe. It does get full quickly though. The drivers were really nice and helped us get back to our hotel from Ybor because we went the wrong direction first. But he just basically walked to the other side of the tram and headed back that direction which was really neat. My daughter loves riding it. There's partial windows. Then they have metal lines that block the bottom part. It's all wood too. And they have pulleys like the bus to have them stop too. The places you get on at are very bright and well lit. I would definitely utilize it for travel. Especially if you don't want to move your car. The best part is that it's free to use so you don't have to worry about paying for it. The front desk clerk at the Marriott told us about the TECO Line Street car. She boasted about its convenience, safety and affordability. The best part is that one of the eleven stops is located across the street from our hotel. The streetcar was very comfortable. It's free and I felt completely safe riding it late at night. The streetcars are replicas of the Tampa streetcars that ran from the 1920's to the mid 1940's. They have a little over forty seats and the ability for thirty people to stand. Maps are located at every stop. There is a cord to pull to alert the driver that your stop is coming up. The streetcars are well maintained and very clean. I was in Tampa for about a week last month, and when planning my trip, i read about the free streetcar system that runs almost all day through the city. I used the TECO several times during my stay. My friend and I took the line to Ybor City, dropped off just in front of the Tampa Bay Brewing Company, and then left near the edge of the city a little while later. The streetcars are fairly dependable on time, though for some reason the app can make them look a little off. Most of the drivers were super friendly and you could tell they really enjoyed their job. The last few days of my trip, I was the only one left, so while I did rideshare many places, I took the streetcar a lot if I was not walking (or if my feet were just tired). My last night in town, I was not going far, but as I was by myself, I took the streetcar down to Sparkmans Wharf and then when I left it was really late, so I waited for another one. I was the only one on the car that time, and my driver made sure I was safe when I got off the line. From point to point, it is only about 30 or so minutes, so you can get an enjoyable ride and get to a lot of places in a brief amount of time. And again, it's FREE! So if you just need a break from walking or a quick ride up to Ybor City, why not take the TECO!? read more

I've taken the trolley a couple of times and it is really a treat! It's an adorable and sweet little piece of history. Get on and you're instantly transported to the late 1800s. On one trip, I took the trolly from Ybor to the Amalie Arena to go to a concert. When I got off of at the stop, it was just a short walk to the Amelie Arena. And when the concert was over, we just walked to the trolly stop, waited briefly, and easily made our way back to Centro Ybor.  We avoided the jam-packed traffic while being transported to an earlier time. There are quite a few characters on there too!  Everyone on the trolley, every time I've gone on, has been friendly, smiling, and happy. I've received good customer service. The conductors have been professional. Not overly friendly, but they've all been professional. It's a great way to save money. You can get cheap parking in Centro Ybor and take the trolley to downtown, avoid the high cost of event parking, and enjoy the sites along the way. Raphael was our conductor on one trip and he did a great job giving us a history of Tampa and Ybor city as we rode along. Did you know that the city paid 750k per trolly car to restore each one?! I didn't! It is a slow and leisurely ride. It's very relaxing unless you're in a hurry so don't be in a hurry. : ) The trolley is free on Saturdays too! Why worry about parking and how much you've had to drink when you can just hop on and hop off this super system that takes you from the Arena to Channelside and all the way through Ybor City to Centennial Park? Adorable, historic, charming street car system. My kids LOVE it! We make a point to ride the street car when we can drive just for the experience. It's not the most functional form of public transportation depending on where you live or considering the stops, but it is excellent entertainment for the kids and a great tourist attraction, even for locals. They stop at all the hot spots in downtown Tampa. A fun day was driving to the aquarium, spending the morning there, buying tickets at the cute gift shop around the corner and then taking the trolley to Ybor for lunch and back again to the car. Especially now that it's free this is a super fun way to transit back and forth from downtown Tampa to Ybor or make a stop at the Sail Pavilion, Convention Center, Amelie Arena, Sparkman Wharf, the new Publix in Channelside or Tampa History Center. The trolley has a bell and a horn. It's electric. Very old school. Drivers are pretty nice. Make sure to pull the cord to let them know you want to stop at the next station or just holler at them. You can also tell them where youre5 heading if you're not sure. Stops by the cruise ship terminals and port as well. Saturday Market in Ybor, Carne, Hatricks, GameTime, The Bricks, Columbia Restaurant and Tampa Improv a few of the establishments worth hitting along the way. Also the pizzeria in channelside that I can't think of the name.. No dogs except service animals. Frequency is quite good at most 15 minutes these days. I've lived in Tampa for a long time but had never tried out the trolley, I knew it was there but never thought to get on. This is a great way to experience Ybor and Downtown Tampa. The cars are clean with a lot of seating. There's a decent amount of room for those that don't mind standing and a smooth enough ride that you won't fall down. The wait between cars is only about 15 minutes, not too bad for a free service. This is a excellent for those that want to bar hop and don't want to drive or call an Uber. Perfect if you're looking for a night out and want to go to Water Street and enjoy the great new restaurants followed by some drinks at the various bars in Ybor. You could also pregame in Ybor for a concert or Lightning game and just take an easy ride over. read more

I have really come to appreciate the Streetcar system since I first tried it earlier this year. I typically park at a parking garage near Riverwalk or at the Convention Center when I am headed downtown. I then walk to wherever I am going. I didn't realize I could easily get to Ybor from there using the Streetcar. The Streetcar has about 10 stops including the Convention Center, Channelside, The Florida Aquarium, Central Ybor, and more. The car has an old school design that brings nostalgia. It is really neat to ride and look around. The ride is free and they run every 15 minutes. They go 15 mph, but it doesn't take super long to get from one end to the other. They do have air conditioning. The seats also slide to change direction if you have a group of four that would like to sit facing each other. The cars are bidirectional and occasionally have to wait for another Streetcar to pass. Overall, the Streetcar can be useful and it is really cool to ride. I will continue to use them..especially when going to Ybor. read more

I love the trolley! Ok, perhaps it is because I am a stranger when it comes to public transportation like our Hartline buses. But, I enjoy the rides on the trolley! We met a friend in Ybor for dinner prior to a Lightning game last week. It was agreed after dinner we would take the trolley to Amalie Arena instead of driving. It was not due to the fact we were imbibing, it was a matter of convenience. Yes, the trolley is not the quickest way of transportation to your destination. But, if you plan accordingly and you are with a great group of people, it isn't too bad. For me, it is all about the convenience of not dealing with the traffic and the idiots on the road. Tim, our trolley operator was very friendly and actually seemed to be speeding as we were leaving after the Lightning game. He even got us back in time to watch the last quarter of the FSU game! I chuckled to myself as we passed all the cars that were gridlocked in traffic. I will definitely ride the trolley again because it means no road rage and headaches for me! read more

Why 2 stars? If you're not a tourist, there is absolutely no point. --- --- --- The Trolley is a novelty, nothing more. In terms of practicality, it's about as useless as can be. Here are the drawbacks: They are slower than a wagon being pulled by a group of sloths. In some situations, walking is a faster option than the Trolley. The bars close at 3. The Trolley stops running at 2 on weekends. I think running them until 3:30 would really help in the battle against drunk driving. The area they cover is very small. They only take you back and forth from Ybor to one corner of downtown. Obviously a route to Hyde Park would greatly increase ridership, but I'm sure there is no place to put a track, or any kind of budget for something like that. Gasparilla, Lightning playoff games and other special occasions are the only time worth riding the Streetcar. It's then and only then that they go from ghost town to party bus. But beware, at Gasparilla they will be so full that it's hard to even get on. read more

This system provides no real means of urban transportation, but is merely a Disneyesque attraction in downtown Tampa. Something you will ride once with your kids, but never again unless they expand it to Curtis Hixon Park and as far as Seminole Hieghts. I didn't come here to bash The Teco street car just wish they would expand it so locals could really feel like the have a 2nd option. I really do love this street car! It reminds me of (New Orleans). The conductors are very friendly and helpful. They announce each stop clearly and are willing to share tourist information. This is an enjoyable ride for anyone of any age. I strongly recommend the $5 all day pass. This way, you can ride from stop to stop getting off where it's comfortable without having to pay again. The schedule is published and they run pretty close to schedule.Also if your a local and live in the area you can purchase a 20 for 20 pass, 20 rides for $20! These are such pretty cars! Four stars because they are both an attraction and a legit transportation system. But missed the fifth star because of the small area they cover and the price is a little steep. I live in channelside and take a car to Ybor when I have out of town visitors to add to the experience. The cars are really pretty and CLEAN! I would def recommend taking a ride just as an experience. When I head in to Ybor on a normal day tho I take my own car since the trolley pricing and schedule doesn't outweigh parking pricing and the convenience of having your own car. read more

The streetcars connecting Ybor city to downtown Tampa are a neat addition to the city. The trolleys are old-style, complete with benches where you can move the back of the seat, depending upon who you are riding with, as well as just the old nostalgia of riding in a trolley. They are electric, so there are lights and all. They offer free rides every Saturday, so definitely take advantage of that if you are in town or have family/friends visiting, it's a neat part of history, specifically Tampa, to show them. I can't remember for sure how expensive average fares are, but if I remember seeing that prices didn't seem too bad, and they offer ticket packages for people who live in Ybor but work in downtown, and vice versa. The aisle in the streetcar is a little narrow, and there isn't much leg room in the seats, especially if you have the seats facing each other, but this is understandable being that the car cannot be but so big. My only complaint is that the employees could be slightly more friendly, and a bit of a personality wouldn't hurt either. When we first got on at one of the Ybor stops, there was a gentleman as our driver. He didn't say a word as we got on, even though he was standing there at the door as we boarded. We went through a couple stops, then got to the trolley terminal, where there was a shift change. A new lady boarded, who took over for the prior conductor. She didn't say a word as she boarded. No 'how are you guys doing today', no name introduction, absolutely nothing. When we arrived downtown, we left the car and she said nothing. We were in downtown for a few hours before boarding the car again. It was the same car we had before, with the same female conductor. Once again no personality at all! It would help a little bit if the conductors could even simply say 'hello' when you are boarding or 'have a nice day' while you are unloading. read more

I have to disagree with Brett N. This streetcar is not just a novelty. It connects Ybor, Channelside, and Downtown Tampa. I used it when the circus was at the Forum, and I was able to bypass tons of traffic to get downtown close to Curtis Hixon Park. Parking in Ybor with the flat day time fee of about $3.XX and the ride all day for $5, I was able to enjoy the day at the photography museum, food, and stroll downtown for less than $20. The only complaint I have is that the drivers can be a bit on edge, but I'm chalking that up to the pressure of being on time and within the 15 min window for stops. Overall, it's nice for experiencing some great spots that Tampa has to offer in the downtown area. read more

Love the streetcar! Being a visitor to Tampa, it was a great way to see a few miles of town. We started at Whiting Station (the first stop on one end) and the streetcar goes about 3 miles. Most stops have a credit card machine to buy an all day pass ($5 per person), or $2.50 for a one-way trip. If you want to pay cash, you'll need to have exact change when boarding. It goes through downtown, past the convention center, through the Channelside district, and ending in the Ybor district. The hubby and I did a pub crawl of sorts, having lunch and beers in Channelside, and continued onto the Ybor district. Don't miss Tampa Bay Brewing in Ybor!! After getting off at several stops and getting back onto the streetcar, we really never had to wait more than 10 minutes. We will definitely do it again! A little nostalgia upon seeing these street cars plying Tampa's street, being from San Francisco and all. Quite a history as well. Tampa's first electric streetcar line was way back in 1892, connecting Ybor City, Ballast Point, Hyde Park, Sulphur Springs and beyond. Unfortunately the line ceased to be in 1946 and it wasn't til 2002 that a 2.7 miles stretch of track came back into existence. They operate three distinct cars, the Breezer, which is open-aired, much like the trollies in S.F., the Standard and the Birney. Now, the Birney was saved from a Sulphur Springs backyard and lovingly restored through 10,000 volunteer hours. It's a replica of the ones that were operated in Tampa from 1920's-1946 and boasts cherry seats, oak frames and mahogany. A nice way to tool through neighborhoods and not too expensive. Upon entering the trolley, the conductor was super friendly and informative, as we were first timers. We hopped on and instantly took a seat. The car was clean, sanitary, and safe. We met a few other riders on the car and headed to our destination. As we progressed on our ride, we passed so many awesome places - the Florida Aquarium, Sparkman's Wharf, a stop close by a Publix! How could you not find this cool? We will 100% be using the streetcar again and more frequently into the future.
