In a world where getting a car repaired can be a dicey proposition (Can they fix it properly? Are they ripping me off?), Center Automotive is a true breath of fresh air and my "go to" for any problem that comes up with either of our cars. They are honest, competent, reliable and totally honest. An example: At 6:00 in the evening I noticed a leak in one of my tires. I dropped the car using the night key drop and it was ready at 7:15 the next morning. The repair was just a tire patch-- if they had tried to stick me for a new tire, I never would have know the difference. I had a surprise coming - a disagreeable phone answering guy: 1:30pm on a Wednesday June 17, 2020 C.A. answers phone Me: Good afternoon, do you do motorcycle inspections? C.A.: (in a disinterested tone) Eight to twelve, one to four, Monday to Thursday Me: Great - no appointment needed? So I can come down right now? C.A.: (this time slower, and dripping with condescension) Eight to twelve, one to four, Monday to Thursday Me: Thanks so much, that's awesome. I've no idea why this guy was hostile to me, this was out of the blue, there was nothing to provoke him. I've got two motorcycles and five cars, no chance any of them will ever go to this place. Instead I took the bikes to MCH Cycles on Lincoln St Medway, a bit of a trip but an honest and pleasant outfit. If these guys want customers maybe they could put some mention of their motorcycle inspection sticker service and hours onto their web page. I have a 14 year old car that had been having issues. I brought it in and asked them to check the lights that were on (anti skid, antilock) and battery. I asked them to take it out and really do a once over for everything that might be wrong. Essentially giving them a blank check. When I got the call they said it looked fine except for the few things I noted. New front brakes, battery, oil change. I feel like they are so honest and I can really trust them. Spend your.money elsewhere. Went here a few weeks ago to get my Accord looked at, as the engine sounded like it was running through a washing machine cycle. Took it in first tjing in the.morning, the front desk guy took my keys, asked me if I wanted an oil change (I said no), and said he'd give me a call. About 330p, someone left a message from Center - "this is Jim, we have your car. My phone number is xxx-xxxx." I thought: great, my car is all set. Walk over (in a snowstorm) the next morning and was told - nope, he was calling to ask if they should repair broken engine mounts. So permission was needed before they could outlay the cash. Wow, thanks for being so clear in the message! Two days later (now Thursday) car was finally done. Bill was $650 including an oil change which I said not to do. And even better? Issue with the car remains and I still feel like I could do a load of darks in the engine compartment. Will be going.somewhere else next time read more

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible!!! If there was a way to rate with 1000 NEGATIVE stars, I would. I had both rear brake pads, rotors and calipers replaced with a quite expensive quote, but I gave them a benefit of doubt to be professional, and do a good job. Within 8 months, one of the calipers broke down already and had to be replaced, which was covered by warranty. After 13 month of replacement, one of the caliper broke down again, but this time the brake fluid leaked and damaged the brake pad and rotor. Now its costing me another fortune to replace them with 1.5 years. Ridiculous! I've driven for almost 17 years and never had problem like this. How can a part brake this often?? unless the mechanics are doing a piss poor job of installing the parts? They cannot be trusted. I will NEVER go back. read more

Center Automotive is a decent place to bring your car in for routine maintenance and repairs. I have been getting my Honda Accord serviced here for almost 2 years based on a recommendation from a friend. The location is close to home and a Trader Joe's and their prices are reasonable (~$26 for an oil change, ~$110 for battery change). They haven't tried to charge me extra for anything or tack on silly parts or labor costs. The service is fairly fast, and they'll give you a call when they are finished with your car. Overall, I'm pretty happy with them! read more

I took my autos there for maintenance for several years before having a bad experience with them - we had an old Taurus that was having intermittent electrical issues. They just started in with replacing parts, after 2 trips back after the "repairs" they suggested I go to a dealer. Turns out it was just a faulty cable. Center claimed that they'd bench-tested the replaced parts, and that they were bad, but I'm not a big believer in coincidence to that degree. I had to raise a huge stink to get back the labor charges on the unnecessary repairs. Kiser and Socci are the local guys to go to if you need anything more than an oil change, I've had great service from both. read more

Total disaster--go ANYWHERE else. Came in with a tire that had a screw in it. On the phone, the guy told me he could fix the hole, in person he said so too AT FIRST. After an hour of waiting, he said not only could he not fix the hole, but that I had to buy FOUR NEW TIRES. He flat out refused to fix the hole, and in the end it seemed like it was a calculated risk to make me wait, then tell me I needed four tires, because he mentioned that I was from "out of town" (we have out-of-state plates) and it was the end of the day. He probably thought I was in hurry and he could get $500 bucks out of my perceived desperation and lack of familiarity with the area (not true, we live nearby). So I left and went to another place around the corner, and they fixed the hole in fifteen minutes for $25, and told me the patch would outlast the tire. I think the guy at Center Automotive thought I was on a trip because of our plates, and he tried to take me for a ride. read more

We live in Michigan, and visited friends in Needham recently. While there, one of my tires got a flat. Our friends recommended Center Automotive. After we left the car there, a short while later, they called to tell me that the tire couldn't be repaired because the hole was in the sidewall; they said they would not take the risk of repairing it. I filed a warranty claim with the online tire store where I bought the tire, and all they needed was a receipt from the repair shop indicating the tire was not repairable. I had a replacement over-nighted, since the tire was "not repairable." But I was shocked that Center Automotive would not put that in writing, even though they confirmed to me it was true. Since then, I had two other shops examine the tire and neither could find any puncture, suggesting that the flat was caused by a valve or rim leak . I question if Center Auto even looked at the tire. So Central Auto lied and cost me $300. I have no explanation for their unacceptably bad service. read more

For well over 10 years I've had my same car serviced here because the prices are fair, the service well delivered, they don't push unnecessary services, and they explain why any one repair is more or less important than any other. With a seventeen-year-old car, I like that they seemed to take pride in helping me keep it on the road. I've given them more than 10K dollars in business over the years and have referred people whether on social media or just in line for coffee. Well that's over now. Recently I had a check engine indicator on, and after dropping the car early to get it checked - after being turned away a week earlier due to volume - I was still waiting at a local Starbucks 3 hours later when I called to inquire. They were apologetic in not getting to it but they didn't understand why I would think 3 hours was more than enough time to connect a sensor to the check engine device. My reminding them of the long relationship and amounts of business I've done with them fell on deaf ears - they made no attempt to acknowledge that. I returned shortly after to retrieve my car. The manager still had no idea who I was nor why I wanted my car back. As I explained the matter to him, he blurted out a rude term to me. Should be needless to say that they've lost my business for good. read more

I was working in an area I am unfamiliar with. The brakes on my care were making noise so I asked the guys at work where was the best local place to go. They all said Center Automotive. I called and made an appointment. They called me with an estimate a few hours after I dropped the car off and I thought the price was very fair. One of my lugs had broken off also. They had to order that. The part came the next day and I went back to find the guys all knew my name. I would not go ANYWHERE ELSE. We totally love this place - they have seen us through a Honda Odyssey, a Honda Accord, and a hand-me-down Volvo. They are professional, courteous, and very honest. When our Odyssey was approaching the end of its life, they told us it was not worth repairing, and if they did repair it, it would likely not last more than 6 months. They are very responsive, and helped us find a donation site for the Odyssey (the Neponset County Humane Society). They are way cheaper, they know me and my service history, and they get the work done in the time they quote. I've seen bad reviews regarding electrical work, which I've never needed. I am always impressed at how reasonable their prices are, and they have serviced us faithfully through a Plymouth Voyager and two Honda Civics. They're not quite as charming as Click and Clack from "Car Talk," but they have impressed me as being decent, honest, skilled diagnosticians and reliable auto mechanics who have helped me often during my times of need. My husband likes to go to the Honda Dealership in Natick, but I prefer Center Automotive, for a variety of reasons: they have earned my trust; they are knowledgeable and have good judgment; their prices are reasonable, and they respond quickly in times of crisis. I've been a loyal customer of Center Automotive for years. This past year, though, I've realized that I will not be coming back. They replaced my tires just before Thanksgiving this year, and last week I started hearing an awful noise which people were telling me was probably the heat shield coming loose. I took it to another local auto shop, and they let me know that one of the tires was about to fall off because it wasn't tightened properly. Have not had good service or experiences with them. Previously used them once to fix a problem (electrical) that popped up again within a couple of months. Then, tried to use them again - based on the Yelp reviews - and had terrible service with no communication. Dropped car off at open and picked up at end of the work day. They hadn't even looked at the car. Called to check up mid-day and terse response said that they hadn't gotten to it yet. No courtesy call either to let me know that they couldn't get to the car so that I could find another solution. read more

They misdiagnosed an electrical issue, replacing the starter, then the alternator ("we bench tested it - it needed replacement") before throwing up their hands and suggesting we go to a dealer. Don't trust them with anything more complicated than an oil change. read more

Recently took my car in for a slow leak in a tire. Had called and been told to just stop by, and I unthinkingly stopped in during lunch time. The guy at the counter said not to worry, that they would fit me in. I sat down, perfectly willing and expecting to wait for some time (I don't live locally, and iffy weather made me not want to hike up to Trader Joe's to kill time!). This place is great. They always fit you in for a quick tire patch, oil change or larger repair. They are honest and will tell you what is needed but also if it's urgent or not. There is no pressure when told what is needed. I never feel anxious dropping my car off, as I have at other places, I know with center auto that what they tell me is the truth. read more

I love Center Automotive. These guys are honest and hard working. I'll be honest and say I have never had them do any big projects on my car, but they have on friends and family's cars. They've done things for me like oil changes, tires etc. They are always priced more than fair and very serious about doing everything correctly. Just the other day I went in to buy some oil to top off my car. They insisted that they take it in and do it all for me! Only charged me $10 - which is nothing considering it was a bottle of 100% synthetic oil that's a fairly specific/ more expensive kind. I give these guys business when I can. They are rude arrogant and down right nasty to their customers. Especially the big cheese owner Jim O'brian. Apparently he believes that having a second rate repair shop imbues him with god like qualities. I guess he feels entitled to trat the customers like crap, especially women . I once brought in a 2003 VW Beetle with a check engine light on. Somehow they reversed the polarities and cooked the entire computer system. It looks as though they hitched up the jumper cables backwards, then blamed it on me. There was only one check engine light on when I brought it there, but every light in the vehicle was on when they just dumped that car back on me, because they couldn't fix it. It took a whole winter and several thousand dollars to get this fixed. I read these good reviews here, but everyone I talk to says they suck big time. I wonder if they are getting family friends and relatives to right the good reviews, because as near as I can see, they don't deserve them read more

They broke my oil pan during an oil change and it was leaking a ton of oil for several months. I went to a dealership to examine what was wrong brought in the customer quote to ask them to replace it and they do not even LISTEN to what I'm saying they just want you to get out and leave so they can figure out how to screw up your car. Terrible customer service. They lied and said they did not break it and it doesn't need to be replaced because they don't make that part anymore...really? how stupid do they think I am? Rude and disrespectful me and my mother. Insulted the ford mechanic that did the quote and said "he doesn't know anything because he's young" They replaced a drain plug and it is STILL leaking oil because they didn't FIX the problem. They purposely screw with your car so you HAVE to go back and then it takes 3 times to get something fixed. They consistently scam women and overcharge on labor costs. Its people like them that give mechanics a bad name, they have serious problems with women, they never called me they would only call my dad when the car is in my name and I pay for repairs... The last two times I have dropped off a car to Center Automotive were both electrical problems. My 2001 Honda Odyssey van stopped dead in traffic. I had it towed to Center Automotive. They diagnosed the problem as a simple battery post issue - cleaned and lubed (?) it - I picked it up a couple hours later. Total charge, under $10. Yesterday I dropped off a 2007 Mazda MX-5 whose battery, although only 1 year old, has been having trouble holding a charge - a problem that started after extended periods of not being driven during the winter. It seemed to be ok earlier this week after driving the car about 50 miles on the expressway - but I wanted to make sure there were no battery drain issues that were going to return to haunt me. I left it with them, also requesting that they check the air pressure in all the tires. They called me a couple hours later saying that they could find nothing wrong with the car. I went to pick up the car fully expecting to pay something - a half hour labor? - for their time. They did not charge me anything. The people in the office are extremely professional and courteous.
