I had the job to try to put together a beverage carbonation and dispensing system for an upcoming event, using a box of old mismatched regulators, gauges and valves. Tino, the plumbing expert, wasn't phased at all. Tino had me put my various parts onto the cart and went to work, pulling down all the fittings, hoses, gaskets and other pieces I needed. He wheeled the cart between different departments educating me on what sizes and types went with each other. Creating new new ways to use the parts, when needed. I am not new to plumbing projects, but without Tino's expert help, I would not have been able to figure out what I needed and pull off this project. When I got home my system came together without a hitch, and everyone at the event got to benefit from Tino and his creative expertise The entire time Tino was helping me also kept my impatient little dog happy with pets, treats and kind words. Shadow normally gets very anxious after more than 5 minutes in a store, but this time at Center, she not only had a good time, but also found a new friend. Terrible customer service, not welcoming at all. I would like to share what they did to a customer. They rudely said next person when in line and then stayed silent at resister. Very awkward for the customer. They just kept staring at the customer also while they were shopping. It seems like they THOUGHT the customer was going to steal based on appearance and clothing. I would not recommend this store if you are a different race outside of a typical white person. Or if you wear certain clothing that a person may call ghetto. I don't know how to quite explain. Best Hardware store in the city hands down, with a wide variety of quality tools (festool, Milwaukee, huskvarna) for any indoor and outdoor projects you need done. Went into today to get some paint. The paint guy (wish I could remember his name to throw him some well deserved credit) was super friendly to my dog and gave him loads of treats. While waiting for the paint to mix I decided to purchase a 10" Mitre saw and while ringing up the Milwaukee Rep threw in a totally free Forge 6.0 battery with a retail value of over 200 bucks. Just as I thought my luck couldn't get any better they carried both the paint and my new saw to the truck. You just don't see service like this anymore folks. I've been in the construction industry for over 15 years and have never come across professionalism like this. Doubt I'll ever go to any other hardware store in the city after this unless absolutely necessary. This store has been around for a century and it's clear why it's lasted so long. If you want to be micro-agressed with homophobic, classist, quasi-racist, ableist, ageist, classist or toxically masculine comments from the floor staff (including the women) every time you visit (in my case maybe a dozen times over the past 15 years), then gaslit when you respond to it, this place is great. If you aren't a toxic/meathead contractor type, they'll treat you like crap. I honestly try to avoid the place as much as possible, but unfortunately they have excellent stock and selection--they honestly have adhesives, hardware and tools you can't find anywhere else in a physical location within 100 miles. If you really need/want that product today and can't wait to get it online, Center is great. But if you can at all afford to wait a few days, and you're not a contractor, just buy it online, it's not worth the hassle and aggravation. If you have to go in and you don't fit their profile of an acceptable customer, steel yourself and gird your loins for a verbal assault, usually by the floor staff. The cashiers mouth off sometimes too, but they're usually pretty nice. Oh, and btw, I'm over 6', 2 hundo and scruffly with a deep voice, so in case you're thinking you will be immune to their attitude, guess again. And not that it matters, but I don't present as even mildly gay (if you think it does matter, then I guess you're a homophobe, too). And I'm old, but not that old, I'm only 53. Et cetera. I reviewed Center Hardware once--must have been an old Yelp account I had. After a long absence, I went to their new(ish) location on 3rd St today. First impression: very clean & well organized. My teen was looking for items for a lemon/electricity experiment. The men who helped us (one was seasoned, the other was a new employee, shadowing) dedicated a good 20-25 minutes to helping us locate our needed items. Then offered us a student discount.
