Called in to ask if they rent bikes. They found two bikes that met our criteria, and when I rolled in the bikes were already out and waiting. Very accommodating when I asked for drink holders to be put on the bikes. They carry Jamis and Bianchi bikes, and have a good selection of cycling shoes for American feet (they didn't seem to carry the well known european skinny-feet brands haha). Just WOW! The customer service here is AMAZING! Staff is awesome! I'm a beginner and the OWNER took the time to sit down with me and show me some stuff (apps on phone for good trails.) The guys there are so polite and attentive its crazy. I work in customer service myself, having a staff that's as friendly and helpful as they are is something i work towards every day. I'm a tough customer (annoying) these guys dealt with me with grace and class. I both purchased a bike from them and had my old bike serviced. Really nice small shop with friendly and smart stuff. Their selection is much better for mountain bikes than road bikes and you don't get the fancy 'fit sessions' that you would at other shops, but they make up for it in service. This is a great shop with an owner who is not pretentious, but really down to earth and a great mechanic. He doesn't try to sell you things you don't need, and has a simple, organized shop that isn't cluttered. I would highly recommend him for bike repairs and retail purchases, as his shop is independent and retail prices match those at REI. When I decided it was time to upgrade to a serious mountain bike, Centraal Cycle was the place to go. They're the only local (North Shore) Santa Cruz dealer. Santa Cruz is a bike company that only makes mountain bikes. No cruisers, no hybrids, no roadies, just mountain bikes. It doesn't get much more serious than that. Centraal has a demo fleet, which allows you to take the bikes you're going to ride in the woods out into the woods to ride them. As a newer biker, that was really important to me. Their friendliness, and willingness to answer lots and lots of newbie questions was key as well. I'm thrilled with the bike, and I'm thrilled with the service I've received from them, as well. Just got a bike back from these guys. It was from a fairly new company and the parts needed were no longer available for that particular model, but they were able to contact the company several times as they worked through solutions for fitting new parts. We discovered Centraal Cycle by accident, having found nothing remotely of interest at the bike shop across the street where we'd always gotten bikes in the past, so wandered over to Centraal Cycle out of curiosity even though we didn't expect to buy a bike from a relatively new shop. They have great bikes though and Mark was really knowledgeable & helpful, not the least bit pushy, and we were impressed by the customer traffic that seemed like repeat customers. I loved the Jamis Coda, but still shopped around a bit before coming back to Centraal, we bought two bikes and couldn't be happy with the entire experience. I've sent others there already! read more

While I have been using yelp without an account for years, today is the first time I've ever been inspired to write a review. I brought my bike to centraal cycle because from the moment it opened, I told myself that's where I would go if I ever took my bike out. It just LOOKS cool. My bike is amazing, but has been sitting on the porch for a couple years, as biking just wasn't "my thing". My room mate recently encouraged me to go on a ride, and I've decided it's something I'd like to do daily, for the exercise. I rode it over, brought it in, and asked the owner, Marc, to just give it a once-over. I am flat broke, and told him that I wouldn't be able to pay for anything today, but that I wanted to know if it is safe to ride until my paycheck comes. I'm so broke that I don't even currently have a helmet, so I've only taken it out a few times, just to ride along the beach 30 seconds away, but would like to take it out for 10 and 20-mile stretches. Living in Beverly really allows you to do a lot, even on a cutesy cruiser bike. In the twenty (or less) minutes I was there, he: fixed my seat (said it was about to fall off) improved brakes (front one is shit...lubed them and fiddled with them...said I would benefit from new ones but that they're expensive, and mine are fine) fixed gear-shifting (cut away some of the foam around the handle bars; the gear shifter was getting caught- also did something else...I know nothing of bikes...he fixed it, though- my bike now shifts gears smoothly) lowered my handlebars (said the manufacturer put them on absurdly high) Put air in my tires. When I asked about scheduling a tune-up for next week, he said "It's pretty much done. It didn't need much." I felt a bit awkward about not even having money to tip, but he a very good-samaritan way about him. Didn't seem to be bothered in the least about what he had done. When I asked again about having anything else fixed, he said that he could fix my wobbly front wheel (I know there's a name for this!), and if I wanted, he could give me knew brakes. But, he only mentioned that because I asked again. He did say that it wasn't necessary, and that if I was seriously thinking about getting into cycling, the money would be better spent on a different bike, not to get carried away putting a bunch of new things on a bike that doesn't need new things. I really appreciated that he wasn't trying to suck non-existent money out of me. As soon as I get my paycheck, I'm bringing my bike back for a full-service tune-up, for anything he can think of that didn't get done today, to fix the wobbly wheel, and to buy helmet, basket, and bike light. I couldn't be more thrilled with my experience today. I'm not a habitually poor girl, but it's really wonderful when a person reads your needs. It's also very apparent that he loves what he does, or he would not have touched my bike. I can't wait to return! My 2- minute bike ride home was SIGNIFICANTLY improved. It felt like a brand new bike. For the record, by room mate brought his bike here a few weeks ago, and had nothing but good things to say. read more

When I was looking for a bike I had no idea what to think of this shop. I had been to the other bike shops in town (where I experienced great customer service also) so I figured I should at least stop in to check it out. The shop is gorgeous, which made me think that I would be overcharged or they would be snobby. I was totally wrong. Not only are their prices very reasonable, their service is great! I was in there probably 3 or 4 times before I actually bought the bike and every time they were very helpful and let me test ride the bikes as much as I wanted. I ultimately found a great bike and I am very pleased with the purchase. Every time I stop in with a silly question they are helpful and patient with my bike-ignorance! The other thing about this shop that I really like is that they are dedicated to the community. They recently helped host the Beverly Gran Prix which was great fun to watch and brought people to downtown Beverly. They have a young apprentice who works in the shops on weekends...which I think is just awesome. Marc has also told me about the crazy amount of cardboard they take to recycling! Ok. I might have been (more than) a little pissy when I picked my bike up from getting repaired after a major wreck. I'll chalk that up to it not looking anything like my old Peugot racer, which might be a good thing. Now that I've ridden it I can safely say that my old Peugot is back in the game. New everything (!) and whatever you did to my chain, guys, well it just purrs like a kitten. A very, very quiet kitten. My bike rocks and I'm so happy. This is definitely one of the best bike shops in the area. I have taken my bike to many local shops, and the mechanics here are the most skilled and knowledgeable. The owner, Mark, is especially proficient with mountain bikes. He clearly has years and years of experience working on mountain bikes, and brings a passion from that experience to his work. For anything beyond simple repairs I take my bike here. I have never purchased a bike here, or dealt with anything related to road bikes, but they seem to have all the bases covered. This is by far the best LBS that I've ever done business with! I bought a couple bikes from them this weekend and the overall process in dealing with them was terrific. The customer service was second to none but after a couple conversations with the owner Marc it is obvious why the shop is as good as it is, great guy that really cares about his customers and support. I bought a Turner Burner and Santa Cruz Solo for my wife and the build Marc did on both bikes were outstanding. Incredible attention to detail, Marc took the time to go over all the settings and adjustments on both bikes. Although pickup day was one of the first spring days and the shop was busy every customer was helped in short order and there was never a sense of anybody being rushed. I went to Centraal Cycle 7-29-13 to get my sister's bicycle fixed. The bike needed 15 spokes fixed. A man said that they could have the bike done sometime on Thursday. They told me up front that the spokes needed to be replaced and tightened and that most likely would fix the warped rims, yep both rear and front rims were warped. They gave me an estimate Sunday 7-28-13 that it could cost around $60 to $70. The man said if there was anything else they had to do they would call me. So I brought the bike in Monday 7-29-13 and I walked home. In about 4 hours Centraal Cycle called me and said the bike was all set and I could pick it up anytime, so I said I will be in tomorrow morning. When I went in the bike was there and fixed. The bike was good as new. I will come here when I need more repairs on my bikes and my sister's bike. THANK YOU! By accident, I discovered Centraal cycle recently, what a great shop. I took my Lemond in for a spring tune (too lazy to do it myself), and had them throw on some tires that I had not gotten around to last season. Ended up getting some new pedals that are easier to get in and out of as well at Mark's suggestion, in addition to a chain that probably didn't have a whole lot of miles left on it. Bike was ready by the next day. At pick up it was all sparkly clean and rides great. Nice line of bikes and parts in this shop on Cabot St in Beverly, friendly and timely quality work with all the extra stuff on the rack that you might need at the last minute before you head out the door. They have some nice bikes in there too btw, and while I was there on a spring afternoon weekday, they were a few people buying new bikes! I think they opened up this past August, so still in the first year, definitely worth the visit to dust off your bike, and get it going for the season whether you are a low end recreational rider, or high end nutjob, or are just looking for a commuter bike. read more
