She would non-stop bark at anything that moves, pull on the leash for entire walks, herd/nip at our toddler, lunge/growl at house guests while cowering at others, and further unruly behavior. We felt horrible and embarrassed that we couldn't control our dog, a dog that when just with us was the most loving dog we've ever encountered. We were not going to let a dog get the best of us, especially when it comes to our toddler. It was time for a change, we made the call to Sit Means Sit (SMS). We met Matt at our house and we were sold. His knowledge, his sincerity, his views on the problems our pup faces, and his effect on our pup just during this one encounter was all we needed to know that this was the right choice. From my personal experience and seeing the other dogs around us at group class, I believe that the full immersion training is hands down the best option. Group class is completely worth your time to attend (we try to go to all three sessions each week) as it reinforces the training with your dog and yourself in a setting with others who are in the same boat of you. With dogs with problem behavior John starts with home training sessions. If your dog needs a little extra jump start, he can do in home training at his place, which is phenomenal. After a few sessions it was clear that Chappy needed a complete makeover to ever conquer his fears, and anxieties, and he went off to Boot Camp for Errant Border Collie's at the Earle family home. After a week, Chappy came home a happy, healthy dog, with a complete new outlook on strangers, and my little guy has never looked back. My dog will now approach strangers in public, with his tail wagging and enjoy letting them love on him. This is a complete turn around from the dog that would greet attention from strangers, with barking and growling previously. And then the fabulous thing is, once John teaches you enough to be at an intermediate level of handling your dog, you are invited to attend any of the multiple socialization classes he holds weekly, where you get to meet in a public place like a park, or a store, and walk and hang out John, and often his lovely family, with other dog owners and their dogs, and practice what you have learned while teaching your dog to be out in public, hanging out, not making a fuss, about the other dogs, or people, or any of the stimulation around them. In attending classes I have met people whose dogs John has turned around, with every kind of problem, dogs with dog aggression, fear biters, separation anxiety, you name it. And they all say the same thing, "My dog went from being a problem to being a great dog to be around." And he is equally good with all breeds, I have seen him manage a young Pit Bull with dog aggression issues, who was in intensive home training with him, who walked right next to my dog on our walk during socialization class, without a peep. Then the cool thing is, after a while you will meet the owner at class, and John has trained them to handle their dogs, so that they are confident, comfortable and in control, and enjoying their pet with their new skills. I have also met new puppy owners, and seen him train puppies, of people who are smart enough to get training on the front end before any problems develop. In particular, I had the chance to watch one Australian Shepherd go from an adorable little fluff ball, who was a handful, to an incredible, delightful, well trained, adult dog. One last note, Chappy, and all of the dogs that I have seen at class that have worked with John for awhile, love, love, love him. My boy goes nuts when we get to training, and cannot wait to shower John with love and kisses~ which John returns. When you see him interact with dogs, there is no doubt, you are lucky enough to have found the trainer, with an incredible ability to connect with your dog, and the intuition to know what they need, and to work with them, and you to get the best out of life with your pet.

I trended the first group training session which consisted of exercises of slamming a door on your dog's head to keep them from trying to run through as well as using your knee to keep your dog from jumping up on you when they see you. During the session as we were waiting for an opportunity to practice slamming our dog's head in a door, the owner Amy Ammon singled me out (from pop a line of 15 people), approached me and in one of the most condescending interactions I've ever had with another human being berated me and said, "no one is going to do this for you." Yes, Amy. I'm fat and when I take my dog for a walk (or training), I generally don't wear a business suit or even Lulu Lemon athleisure. I'm sorry if my comportment is detestable for you. But you clearly need professional psychological help and have exactly zero business running an animal training facility. Needless to say I did not return for any addition sessions. When I asked for a refund they refused to give me even a prorated refund citing that I was clearly an unfit pet owner. Please for the sake of humanity, the universe, and your pet's, NEVER patronize this establishment.

I last trained this past summer and continue to use email and text for advice and guidance. Amy will help you get the best success from your dog according to their demeanor, behaviors and training needs. Treats can be used however, it's the trainer's choice and not necessary. What I love is that the dogs are trained with positive praise and reinforcement rather than treats if desired. They learn to respond to your voice and reward of attention rather than being tied to a bag of treats. Corrective collars are used when recommended but not required and not cruel or used for punishment. They are just that. Corrective, a reminder and help with communication. Amy explains and instructs on behaviors and rationale behind the dogs behavior which help you understand your dogs motives and needs more. She really spends individual time with real time feedback to clients. During each class, you will be working with your dog along side others the entire time with short instructions/demonstrations from Amy which means you get more real time working with your pup rather than listening to lengthy instructions and little time to work. I've really enjoyed the classes and have had great results. We tend to take hour dogs with us on many occasions, out to dinner, camping, parks, events and hotels and get much attention from others on how well behaved and comfortable the dogs are in their environment. Kids and adults alike may approach them as well as other dogs, even crabby ones on occasion and they are nonreactive and friendly. I will continue to train every year to keep the dogs engaged! I came to Think Pawsitive for puppy class and was impressed by the professionalism of the instructors. We learned a lot about the basics and behavior modification by means of positive reinforcement and rewards for good behavior. When we "graduated" we where asked what our goals were. After some thought we enrolled in basic agility class and have not looked back. My dog and I enjoy the challenge of this sport and Think Pawsitive is a top notch training facility. With a large indoor turf floor and up to date equipment, it is a place to keep your pooch active year round. A swimming area for K9 splash is a nice way to get exercise as well. The instructors let you learn at your own pace and really helped us to build a strong relationship. Their workshops are fun and help make that special bond between us even more enjoyable. One last thing, this place is CLEAN. With all the dogs in and out of the place, that is no small accomplishment.

I was able to set up appointments easily and their package prices are great. I have seen a lot of improvement so far, more than expected after just two months. I'm allowed to be in the room and watch his movements. He's a very shy pup so I think it helps to have me in there as well - probably feels less like punishment The staff are wonderful and so encouraging. I'm looking forward to passing more hurdles over the coming months.
