I really need to update my review here from 9 years ago. Central City has really upped their game over the years. They are truly one of New Orleans' only places to get BBQ from. I still love their boudin, of course, but I recently tried their smoked turkey salad! I love that they have a salad on their menu because generally, any BBQ you go to will never have a salad. And this one is really good! They aren't stingy on the ingredients either. The turkey was so juicy and I don't know how they did that, turkey is usually dry. Maybe they spatchcocked it. In any event, this juicy, moist, turkey salad was so good, I could not eat it all! It was so much food. DONT SLEEP ON THE SALAD AT A BBQ PLACE! :-D Also, mac n cheese is really good. We also ordered their meats, their brisket and pulled pork are great as well. Love their BBQ sauces. This is a side note, but I wish they would have made a second Central City BBQ when they instead did their tex mex Las Cruces. Metry has no good BBQ and I think CCBBQII would have made a killing! I will start by saying the side of potato salad was very delicious. Has good flavor and texture, would definitely order it again. I didn't want to get a whole plate so I just got a side of potato salad and a side of bacon Mac n cheese. My Mac n cheese did not have bacon and they did not tell me they were out of bacon when I ordered. I ordered it to go. It was almost $17 which surprised me because each side is only $6.00 so I asked what the extra charge was for and she said they charge $2 for to go orders to package it. The packaging is cheap styrofoam containers and a thin paper bag. None of it is high quality or bio degradable. Why is it $2? If I had ordered it to dine in and then asked for something to take it to go would they have charged me $2 after I had already paid? read more

The smell of smoked bbq upon walking in instantly brightens up my mood. During my prior visit, Ronikka took us in the back to give us a tour of the smokers. On this visit, I ordered the 5 meat family sampler platter. The pulled pork was my favorite. My sides were brussel sprouts (10/10), baked beans, jambalaya (do not have to eat again) and fries. I visited with a friend during restaurant week for the three course special. After we ordered, she realized that her meal would have been cheaper if she ordered each item individually. I saved a couple of dollars. I got the rib tips, brisket sandwich, potato salad, and bread pudding. She got chicken wings, a turkey sandwich, chili, and a cookie. Everything was pretty good, but I like my potato salad with more mustard. I was able to add some using the mustard at the table. The wings were small, but good. The rib tips were the best part, and the sauce had a nice kick. So good. The restaurant was chill. Walk up counter service, and they bring the food over to you. Self serve drinks. Great Barbecue spot located in central City. Me and my friends often go here for lunch and it never disappoints. I'm a creature of habit so I always get the brisket salad with a side of spoon bread (a twist on regular cornbread, a must try). Their salads are large and flavorful. Today we went and my friend got the jambalaya with a side of Brussel sprouts. Both dishes were very good. Besides the food being good I love how fast the service is. You never have to wait long for your food, by the time you place your order and sit down the food is coming out. The place has a nice vibe, with indoor and outdoor sitting. Also has a full bar so you can order whatever you like. They have a private room on the back that is used for event space. Today I found out they're a king cake hub so that's a major plus. It was a Friday night and we really didn't feel like cooking so we ordered some delivery from Central City BBQ. We've never eaten there so we weren't sure what to expect, but we were excited when we got some really good BBQ. I got their award winning wings that are topped with a white bbq sauce and a side of the corn pudding. Both the wings and corn pudding were delicious! I stole a few bites of my SO's ribs, sausage, and Brussels sprouts. I'm usually disappointed in ribs but these were juicy, tender and not fatty at all. The food was average at best and the place was not very clean. All of the light covers around the bar, over where people eat, had a thick layer of dust and the filter cover over one of the entrances was covered in dark dust and lint. The service was also near horrible. Our cashier was kind but she was literally being reprimanded by a female manager that oozed anger. This manager was upset someone returned an order that was not theirs and later made a heavy sigh when delivering food to a table with elderly people. I had the brisket and pulled pork and it was cooked well. The mac n cheese was very ordinary and not the typical southern version at all. It tasted more like it was from the supermarket and the cornbread mash was ok but could have used more flavor. Prices were fair. The tables needed to be cleaned with soap and water and not the visible dirty towel on the end of the bar. The chairs appeared worn but were fairly comfortable. The bathroom was fairly clean. Overall the place was probably great at on time but appears neglected and run down. Staff needs better training on customer service and overall professional behavior. I did not have any problem personally but what I observed happen to other customers. Also it's difficult to enjoy a meal when the surroundings were not clean. Makes you wonder how clean the kitchen area is. I would not return or recommend this restaurant unless they did a major overhaul of the business. Otherwise I expect it won't last long. read more

This is such a great gem in New Orleans! It is a place with a parking lot and plenty of outdoor seating. I go often got the rib tips and the seasoned fried chicken skizn! I have had other food selections and they were all great even with any side that was chosen. I haven't yet had chance to have a drink at the bar yet but I heard they have great bartenders. Excellent BBQ and sides at a reasonable price! During my visit to NOLA, I needed to try Bbq since I have tried a number of seafood restaurants and come upon this fabulous, no frills place. Walk in and order food at the counter, drinks at the bar. I've been here twice and both times the food was great - large portions and smoked well. The brisket is ok - a little dry, but has a nice bark. The jalapeno cheddar sausage is always good. Burnt ends and pork belly are always delicious! My friend ordered a salad and it looked amazing - maybe I'll try next time. The combo plates are served with a fat slice of white bread and onions and pickles if you want them. Oh and the sides are tasty too - spoon bread is one of my faves, sweet chili brussel sprouts are delicious and the Mac and cheese if good and the jumbalaya was flavorful with lots of meat. This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for great BBQ in New Orleans. It is right by the arena and stadium. There is lots of seating inside and outside and TVs had football on. I had the two meat plate- pulled pork and beef brisket along with potato salad and jambalaya as sides. The meat is gluten free before sauce is added. It was so delicious and you get a lot of food. Overdue to write this review! Parking on the street was limited! There was an activity on the street but not in the BBQ house. Very good experience and food came out quickly, as it should!! I never understood why it takes so long to receive barbecue orders because it's NOT cooked to order. First time I was disappointed and we used to frequent Central city bbq quite often, haven't been in a while. Wings were borderline burnt, the 2 strips of brisket on a 3 meat plate may as well have been a crockpot roast, ribs which are usually so on point were also dry. The sauces that used to be in caddy's are gone, the only way to get them now is ask for a container of them and get attitude for asking. Sad to say, it may be our last time there especially with how high the pricing got and how much the portions shrank. Editing my review because I cannot find a way to reply back. I know your ribs are dry rub, I've had better ribs from your restaurant straight out of my fridge. These were pulled from the smoker and sat under a heat lamp since this morning dry. Same goes for the brisket. Dismal experience this evening. $135 (w/ tip) for 2 pulled pork sandwiches, a 3 meat plate and 12 wings. Kids liked the sandwiches but the one that loves pickles and was disappointed to see those disappeared along with the sauce containers. read more

Let me start off by saying I am not a BBQ person. A few friends suggested we go, so I decided to branch out. I am now a BBQ person! Really glad I came here. I've visited Central City BBQ about 3 times and its always exactly what I want when i'm craving BBQ. I've tried the corn fritters appetizer as well as the chicken nachos - both are awesome. The nachos are so big they could feed 4. I recommend trying the 2 meat entree as it comes with 2 sides. Don't be shy; order more if you want! The sides are easily the best part. The sweet corn spoonbread, baked beans, bacon mac n' cheese, potato salad and chili are all excellent. My favorite meat is the turkey but my husbands is the brisket, burnt ends, ribs and jalapeno cheese sausage. He says he can't choose. You really cant go wrong with anything here. Went here a few years back for a pre wedding buffet and was not all that impressed so luckily we went back to see what it was like at its best and we are glad we did. Very good BBQ coming from their huge smoking pits; the ribs were excellent, as were the rib tips, wings and brisket. Sides were good as well. I went back to CC this past Sunday & Welp a lot has changed in a year. No more Starter Rib tips you can only get them as a $13 meal that was disappointing. I ended up getting the 3 meats options with 2 sides. I got the burnt ends, pulled pork and sausage and A side of coleslaw and brussel sprouts w strawberry lemonade which was delicious by the way along with the sides . I don't recommend going on a Sunday. I believe I got the burn ends from Friday. They seem to just be reheated which made the burnt portion harder and dry and they were the same temperature as the coleslaw. The pulled pork & sausage had good flavor but also wasn't hot it all tastes like it was day old reheated Bbq. They also removed the barbecue sauce station. It appears they only have one sauce now and you have to ask for it because mine didn't come with my tray. The good news is the one sauce they have is still good and it definitely was needed to get through those burnt ends. I don't believe in sending anything back because I would just leave so I persevered through but it wasn't enjoyable unfortunately. I left a lot of unedible burnt ends behind which was an additional 4-$6 to add on the 3 meats combo. Hopefully if it was just a hiccup because I haven't actually gone on the weekend before but I'll make sure I won't make that same mistake next time. read more

The org I work for comes every year to this establish to feed our students from out of state. Usually it is not the best experience, as far good, customer service and again food. But this time, everything was different. The food was hot and delicious, the customer service was superior! Before the person always had an attitude because again, we are a large group with teenagers but we are always respectful and for most the students it was their time in New Orleans. Eitherway, the new guy at the register was quick, he had a system and he got all of our orders correct and out in a timely manner. We enjoyed it so much we took a photo with them and made sure they knew we would be back again next year... I believe this establishment has a new GM, Mrs. Rocquelle. She is doing a phenomenal job! I love central city it is my go to bbq spot. However, today they disappointed me. Being that today is a holiday I wanted to stop in and grab some food on my way to the office. I ordered the three meat plate, Turkey breast, chicken-dark, and sausage and sides of Brussels and Mac n cheese. I didn't check my plate, because I've never had to. When I arrived to the office and open the plate it was only a two meant plate with brisket. I do not order the brisket because it's too fatty. So I was charged for a three meat plate and only received a two meat plate and one meat I didn't order. read more

Solid barbecue, quick service, friendly faces and some good flavors! The brisket was dry on my end but I'm from Texas so it might be a personal preference. The jambalaya and turkey was pretty killer, certainly the highlights of the meal! They didn't skimp on the servings either which was a pleasant surprise! The potato salad had good flavor but it was fairly simple, which was nice. It doesn't need 100 ingredients, sometimes simple and COLD potato salad is all you need! Overall, solid two meat plate! There is indoor and outdoor seating and was self seating. Interior there are TVs and a bar in the middle. Outside it's more of a patio setting but it was too hot to entertain that idea.
