Okay, we came here to try it out & bam, it was a hit. The collard greens are on point. We enjoyed EVERY bite. Our server, Lizzy was active however I see it was a team effort. The music & cool art made it very calm & cozy.

I love to grab a seat at the chef's counter whenever it is possible and I was so glad they had that option here! It's so fun to watch the food come out and chat with the team if they're not too busy. Everything on the menu looks great but I decided to go with the daily specials. The arugula salad was exactly what I needed after a long flight and it was very fresh. Absolutely zero wilted leaves on my plate. Not sure what the dressing was but it balanced with the natural bitterness arugula has and I loved the pecans on top. Do not sleep on the pan seared drum if it's offered as a special! It was absolutely delicious and the vegetables were well dressed. The chocolate crème caramel was also an excellent dessert! It looks like a flan but was more like a thick mousse.

I had a good experience at cochon - The experience was great! The food was just ok though. We stopped in on a Saturday evening. It was pretty hard to get reservations, so plan ahead. We could only get an 8:00 reservation. They were running a bit behind, so we stopped at the bar and had a drink. Their drinks were good! I tried the sour ale, it had a nice unique flavor and fit the vibe of the restaurant. We tried several things from the dinner menu. For apps - we got the fried meat pie and the shrimp and andouille sausage gumbo. The fried meat pie was really delicious! It had nice flavor and the pasty was flaky as well. The gumbo was good, but didn't really blow me away. For entrees I tried the wood smoked gulf fish . It was good, but was a little bit dry unflavorful. I was hoping for a more blackened / seasoned fish, and this was more focused on the flavor of the fish (which is fine, if it wasn't a bit dry). I also tried to cochon, which was pretty delicious. Again it was a little less seasoned than I expected, but the texture and taste of the pork was delicious and made up for it. We got the chocolate parfait for desert & didn't really like the chickory whipped cream (although the mouse was good) But to our surprise the waitress refunded the desert, so it worked out well. Overall, I thought the experience and service was good, but the food was a little lacking

I heard good things about Cochon so I decided to make this place my first meal coming into New Orleans! It's described as casual fine dining, and I can see it. Coming on a weekday, it was definitely still busy so I opted for bar seats. I had their fried gator bites, chicken and sausage gumbo, and their Cochon. The gator bites was definitely interesting to me as I've never had that before! I haven't had gumbo in this city, but I felt like it was lighter than I'm used to. The cochon is definitely also a new meal for me too!

This was probably our least favorite of the meals we had while in New Orleans. The gumbo was really salty, alligator mushy and chewy, & boudin flavorless. Service was quick and efficient but otherwise not impressed by Cochon at all. I want to come back to try the next door Cochon Butcher - hoping that is a much better dining experience.

The food and service was really good! We shared a few items on the menu. The max and cheese was PERFECT! The inside of the restaurant was super cute and spacious

A warning right off the bat, this is NOT Cochon Butcher, which has a nearly identical name and is right next door. We made that mistake and luckily it didn't cost us too much because Cochon restaurant is also a great meal. The restaurant feels modern and warm with good service to boot. They fit us in as a walk-in group of 10 coming in less than an hour before close with only about a 5 minute wait to turn a table, which we waited at the bar during. For food we ordered the catfish courtbouillon with popcorn rice and a side of bread (complimentary but we asked for more). Our food came out timely and the ordering experience was seamless as we had a very knowledgeable and patient waiter to help us guide the menu. The catfish "stew" was delicious, brimming with savory Cajun flavors; the rice added a nice texture to round out the dish. Likewise, the bread was delicious as well. They didn't charge us for the extra bread either which was very nice of them to do. Cochon Restaurant is a great gateway into the flavors of NOLA, which is why it's fitting it was our first dinner there. Between friendly service and a nice atmosphere, where attention to detail seems to be present, this is a great dining experience for casual nights and group dinners alike.

Went to Cochon recently for a dinner date with family. I didn't have a reservation because it was a last minute decision to go there. I put our name on the list for an indoor seat but 45 minutes later, we were still seated outside. Our server was friendly and quick, which we appreciated because we were so hungry. We ordered the alligator, oysters (not my fave-lacking flavor), cucumber salad and had bread for appetizers. I had the drum special as my entree and it was delicious! So freaking good.

Had to try this spot with the family on our last day in NOLA based on the Yelp reviews and locals saying this was a good spot. We definitely went out with a BANG! This place was so cute inside in the warehouse district area. We had a party of 8 and didn't have reservations for a Monday. So walk ins are welcomed, but maybe you'll need it for the weekends. I can see this spot getting really busy. Our waiter Ely was absolutely AMAZING. He answered all our questions and requests. Showed that Southern hospitality. We started with Fried Chicken Liver & Fried Boudin. Then ordered the Louisiana Cochon, Catfish Courtbouillon & popcorn rice, Fried Soft-shell Crab Sandwich and with all the side- Mac n Cheese, Braised ham & Collard Greens, & Buttery Grits. Everything we had was delicious and so flavorful. Every bit was absolutely perfect. It's the Southern meets Cajun combination which was absolute comfort food for the soul! I was so happy that my kids and family enjoyed it. We also enjoyed their sister restaurant next door which was more casual. Cochon Butcher (they deserve love too). I wish I had a chance to thank Ely for being so patient with us as we explored the menu. Another waiter filled in for him while he went on break or something, but didn't bother to tell us her name or say she was helping while he was out. She was very rude and I thought I was the only one that felt that way, but everyone even my kids thought she was rude and not very customer oriented. Facial expressions and gestures are everything and that ruined it for me. We didn't even want to order dessert from her. My husband asked her what's on the dessert menu and she rudely responded that she would bring the menu and walked away. As a waiter/waitress and if it's not your first day- shouldn't you know what is on the menu?! Where did that Southern Hospitality go? I went back inside to ask for our waiters name and didn't even bother asking for hers. I wish I would've! Anyways- overall this could have been a 5 star review for me, because guys- the food was phenomenal!

The best sazerac I had in NOLA was here. They also have the butcher which is down the street and the food there is amazing. They have an oyster and bacon sandwich and it's huge. Very good

Location Very close to convention center. Corner of Andrew Higgins and Tchoupitoulas. Parking Street and nearby lots-we walked. Atmosphere Classy New Orleans Seating Outside patio tables, inside tables-great for groups Service Outstanding Menu Everything you want Creole and New Orleans style. We had a late night snack-greens which were so perfectly seasoned-I added nothing-not even routine hot sauce-had it in this tender bowl of deliciousness. The crawfish pie was served with a side of salsa-like relish. It was stuffed full of crawfish!! The empanada like crust was flakey and tender. So good! Of course we had to have the chocolate mousse dessert!-layers of scrumptious smooth chocolate and crunchy pecans! Full bar-I didn't look at the rest of the menu but will share a picture. The pinot noir was terrific! Summary Never disappoints! Love this place AND they were open late! Great food, outstanding atmosphere, best service in NOLA,! Make reservation if earlier in the day.

Randomly dropped in for a work lunch and was pleasantly surprised to discover this spot recently received a Michelin star. A high class approach to some local favorites and it definitely didn't disappoint. Quick service, friendly staff, amazing lunch prices, and a cozy vibe. The oysters portion was crazy but so good! Definitely recommend this.

Cochon is amazing. We sat at the chefs counter and really enjoyed our time eating and watching the staff prepare the food. The restaurant has an inviting warm feel with an industrial vibe. Our server was fantastic. We changed our order based on his recommendation and I'm glad we did. I can't wait to go back again!

Ask the Community - Cochon Restaurant

    When is happy hour?

We asked that question too and they said every hour is happy but no drink specials. Very upscale place!

    Are there gluten free options?

I believe there are, but best to call ahead and ask.

Hi I was wondering if we can bring our own bottle of wine to this establishment?

No But as wine educators and consultants their wine list has a lot that marries their very intense and assertive food. Not overpriced.

    Is there a dress code?

    Dressy Casual

Is there outdoor seating? Can it be reserved?

I don't remember if they is outdoor seating but you can definitely make reservations.

Do they have a children's menu?

No, there is no kids menu.

    Any good bars near cachon?

There's Mexican and bbq right across the street I believe, which mostly likely have bars. But we love Bakery Bar, about 2-3 blocks away. Great cocktails and cake slices!

Can they accomodate gluten free dietary needs?

They do have gluten-free dishes, but if you are very sensitive, I would ask them about cross-contamination when preparing the dishes.

Never been .I I heard it was good?

    Don't miss it

Is this a good place for a birthday dinner and large groups?

Yes! Call ahead. They have some sections towards the kitchen that are big tables they can put together. I hope it isn't tomorrow!

Will they take reservations for a large group? Do they have the space for Like two tables of 10?

I am pretty sure they do. The night I was there, there was a bachelor party of about 25 guys split between two tables. So yeah-I don't think they would have a problem with that! But I would definitely call to make a reservation and let them know… Read more

Is the restaurant open on Easter Sunday?

Yes this restaurant is open on Easter Sunday.

Is this place kid-friendly? Do they have high chairs?

I think it is, I remembered seeing a family of four with children dining right next to us at lunch time, but I did not remember whether the kids were sitting on high chair or not.

Any vegetarian options? Will have three meat eaters with me.

They don't have a straight vegetarian option, but they have a few sides that would suffice. They're also pretty accommodating so I'm sure they could accommodate. If you're really concerned, I'd call ahead of your reservation and request a special… Read more

    Is there a dress code?

No. It’s NOLA, you’re lucky people are wearing any clothes.

    Is this restaurant wheelchair accessible?

    Yes Cochon is wheelchair accessible.

Why isn't this establishment good for kids?

Of course you can take a child into any establishment. This place is a crowded, upscale, more expensive place with trendy food items than I would normally pick for a child. I… Read more

I went to the website to make a reservation for one. The website doesn't offer this as an option. Two minimum. Can I walk in and eat at the bar?

Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. The ambiance is amazing, plus velvet, emerald and sapphire tone, glitzy, and feels like a good photo op. The bar and cocktail menu looked expansive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!

My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

Inside is low light and old time apothecary mood, menus like a spellbook, but it's not gimmicky. The bartenders move like they've done the reps. Calm. Precise.
