The food was good but at night it made me nervous. Stay going to day time and it's alright.

Been a lot of buzz about The Joint lately and was in the mood for bbq so had to check it out…read more Wasn't sure about parking, but needn't have worried. There was tons of parking all around the park across the street. Inside had something like 6 or 8 tables and a bar to sit at. They also have outdoor seating. You order at the register and they bring it out to you. I ordered the 2 meat 1 side combo. They didn't have burnt ends at the time, which I'm still dying to try. Instead I went with ribs and chicken with Mac and cheese. I've been getting used to bbq places bringing you small wimpy ribs, but this says two ribs on the menu it's more like three and some change they're so big. These ribs were so juicy, perfect amount of char, tons of flavor. Throw some of the table bbq to dip in and wow. Same with the chicken juicy, with a light crispy skin, and also even better with the bbq. Mac and cheese was also great. It was super cheesy and had a nice kick to it.

I ordered the brisket burnt ends and the ribs with a side of baked beans. The food came out pretty fast. The burnt ends were delicious. Tender and seasoned well I also loved the bbq sauce. The ribs were okay. They were Luke warm so they got cold pretty fast and were over cooked. I enjoyed the baked beans and they give you a hearty portion. Overall pretty good I would definitely go back to get another order of burnt ends.

I will start by saying the side of potato salad was very delicious. Has good flavor and texture,…read morewould definitely order it again. I didn't want to get a whole plate so I just got a side of potato salad and a side of bacon Mac n cheese. My Mac n cheese did not have bacon and they did not tell me they were out of bacon when I ordered. I ordered it to go. It was almost $17 which surprised me because each side is only $6.00 so I asked what the extra charge was for and she said they charge $2 for to go orders to package it. The packaging is cheap styrofoam containers and a thin paper bag. None of it is high quality or bio degradable. Why is it $2? If I had ordered it to dine in and then asked for something to take it to go would they have charged me $2 after I had already paid?

I'm a creature of habit so I always get the brisket salad with a side of spoon bread (a twist on regular cornbread, a must try). Their salads are large and flavorful. Today we went and my friend got the jambalaya with a side of Brussel sprouts. Both dishes were very good. Besides the food being good I love how fast the service is. You never have to wait long for your food, by the time you place your order and sit down the food is coming out. The place has a nice vibe, with indoor and outdoor sitting. Also has a full bar so you can order whatever you like. They have a private room on the back that is used for event space. Today I found out they're a king cake hub so that's a major plus. Located in central city with a parking lot.

First time visiting and unfortunately will definitely be the last. We were the only ones on…read moreSaturday afternoon, was seated promptly. However, it went down hill after that. I tried ordering turkey wings? Turkey necks and oysters and neither were available so I opted for steak medium well, red beans and green beans; my daughter ordered the loaded potato with pulled pork (flavored amazingly) and mac and cheese (absolutely horrible) my husband ordered salmon and shrimp, dirty rice and green beans. Steak came out the 1st time, it was well done.... Sent back for a 2nd time; came out and this time the steak is a different cut where it's thick on one side and thin on the other side and it was done and the thick side RAW at this point I'm irritated and it was sent back and I decided not to get anything else. The green beans were definitely from the can with no flavor. My husband's salmon was ok, the red beans were good and the dirty rice as well. My daughter's food came out and although the pulled pork was good the rest was a no go which threw the entire meal off. It took forever for the food to come although we were the only ones! I tried my best to be positive in it all but it just did not work out and I definitely will not be giving it another try when I'm back visiting,

Ohhhhh snap. This place absolutely slaps!!…read more If you are looking for southern Creole soul food that actually understands the assignment and did the homework, this is the place. No notes. Standing ovation. First things first, do not be a chicken. Yes, it is outside the tourist bubble. Yes, you might clutch your pearls for a second on the drive. Relax. We felt completely safe, and it is a short ride from the French Quarter. The only thing in danger here is your belt notch! The atmosphere is exactly what a soul food kitchen should be. Cafeteria line moving with purpose. Staff smiling like they know something you do not yet know. Portions so generous they feel personal. And just enough grease permanently bonded to the surfaces to let you know the food is about to be correct. Now the food. Lord help me. This is not food you politely eat. This is food with soul. The kind of soul that makes you want to slap your mamma, then immediately apologize and say damnit three times while chewing. Every bite tastes like somebody's auntie took offense to the idea of under seasoning. Just look at the plates. It was heaven served in a clamshell. No garnish. No nonsense. Just pure comfort. If you grew up in the South, this will feel like home. If you are from the North and curious what southern comfort food actually tastes like, practice your "Hey, Yall" in the mirror and commit fully for lunch. One warning. They sell food until it is gone. When it is gone, it is gone! So if you want that heavy mac and cheese energy, you better show up early and hungry. Final takeaway. We went in for lunch. I left happy, full, and slightly greasy, with the overwhelming urge to take a nap and call someone I love. She didn't answer so I regulated my emotions with a piece of cake from the girl in the corner - you'll see when you arrive. So don't skip dessert!!

Sigh. Disclaimer: the food just isn't the same anymore…read more My parents live on the Westbank, so whenever I come home to visit and stay more than a few days, I always make a stop here, specifically for their stewed okra on Tuesdays. I hadn't eaten here in over a year, but two years ago that okra SMACKED. It was so good I had to stop myself from eating the entire container in one sitting. This time, though, it tasted completely different. Honestly, I mostly picked over it. It did have a decent amount of seasoning meat in it, which I appreciated, but the flavor was just off. My mother agreed. I also ordered the stuffed catfish, and unfortunately the catfish tasted almost entirely like blackened seasoning and nothing else. It used to have much more flavor and balance than that. The yams were fine, and the seafood dressing tasted the same as usual, but I was really disappointed because the okra was always the star of the show for me. Since that's no longer hitting the same, I honestly won't be back. And mind you, this was after standing in line for ~90 minutes. I will say the workers still have that Southern hospitality, and the customer service itself was pleasant. But while standing in line and watching the workflow, it was easy to think of multiple ways the business could improve efficiency. I'm honestly surprised those issues haven't been addressed yet. If you want to go for the experience, then sure, go for it. But don't expect to be blown away. For me, the wait time, prices, and food quality just didn't live up to the hype anymore.
