Great after-sale service. Got a Ryzen 7 3700X from them. Had trouble POSTing with my X570 motherboard so I took it to them to test. They fired it up successfully so at least I knew it wasn't something with the CPU or motherboard. Saved me from one huge goose chase. I recently discovered CC here in Newark even though I've been in the area forever. They routinely price match with online retailers which is nice when you want to support local business but don't want to pay a premium to do so, but on a couple occasions they declined to match stating that the online price was lower than their cost. They often have little freebies that you can get if you check-in via Yelp. The last time I got a little USB fan that you can plug into your phone. Their staff is generally pretty knowledgeable, although some of the guys might need to brush up on a little bit. Nice clean location and it never feels like it's over crowded. read more

I like Central Computers in Newark a lot. Their prices are very reasonable and even competitive with internet store prices, which is quite remarkable. Their selection is also very decent. There aren't many brick and mortar computer hardware stores left where you can buy computer components in person. Central Computers and Fry's in Fremont are the only big ones left now. Based on store traffic, it's not hard to see that none of the brick and mortar computer hardware stores are doing well. This is one reason I patronize Central Computers and Fry's. They are both good stores and I want to help them stay in business. Paying a little more at a brick and mortar store compared to online prices does not discourage me from shopping at these traditional stores. The advantages of physical stores are undeniable: I get to touch and examine the products before making a decision to purchase, I get to return wrong or defective items in person, and I get to talk to the staff to ask for advice, and I can buy the goods right away. It would be a great loss if all the brick and mortar stores went away and we'd all have no other way to get computer components except by shopping online. read more

Central Computers is our "go-to" place for computer trouble shooting or data organization/archive issues. The people there are knowledgeable and professional. My 12 year old had a problem with his school issued Chrome Book - it would no longer charge. The employee knew the problem but wasn't sure if the needed part was in inventory. He advised my son to take the computer home and finish his homework (which he did). That person followed up with me leaving TWO messages that the part was in stock and he could fix the computer within a day. I dropped it off and he did fix it within the quoted time. Further, the fixed computer would need a different charger going forwarded and the employee included a new charger for free. Exceptional. :) read more

Got my first custom build PC from them back in March, they were really helpful to guide me as I was new to the custom build space. Short turn around time which was great. After I got my computer I noticed they have me the 3200mhz ram instead of the 3600mhz. They did not notify me and I found this out registering the parts for manufacturer warranty. When I went back they were kind enough to switch back. It looked like they knew about it before I even went in, was really surprised they didn't call to at least let me know about it beforehand. After a bit of use, noticed that my motherboard's VGA light was on while everything ran fine. Decided to go in to ask if they knew anything about it. The representative that greeted me informed me it's normal even though I know it wasn't as it did not light up the first month of use. I ended up googling forums and finding out it might have something to do with the PCIE contact and cleaned it and now it's running fine. Would have have the review 5 stars but the two instances I mentioned kind of frustrated me. Otherwise, great store and there are some really helpful employees there to assist but I guess it all depends on who helps you. read more

Brought a 100ft cat6 cable in and wanted to ask if they can replace the plug on it. The not so friendly manager looking guy (the only one who wore a regular shirt) told me he is happy to sell me a new cable. When I told him that I just need the plug replaced and would happily pay for that he told me that they don't know how to do that but he can sell me the tool to do it myself. Sorry but even I know how to do it but I don't have the tool and i am not buying it plus a 100 pack of new plugs for a one time repair. The guy certainly gave me the impression that they had more important things to do even though there was no other customer in the store. Not the nicest experience and definitely not helping to get me back into the store for any larger purchase. In this day and age a brick and mortar computer shop should really be focused on providing excellent customer service. That includes a super easy repair of a cable plug that literally takes 2 minutes. That's just my opinion but hey what do i know, I don't run a computer store. read more

I brought my laptop which didn't boot to windows. All my important documents and pictures were on the drive. After talking to the technician Elie, he recommended me to do diagnostic for $29. 2 days later, he called me and said all data could be saved and upgraded to SSD, for less than $200. I called and asked if they had at home service to help me connect multiple monitors to my computer. They advised me because of covid they are not sending techs out. However, when I spoke with Moses he actually offered to help me over the phone and fixed my issue. He didn't have to do, that he took that time to just help me out and I really appreciated it! If you are in need of a software solution, or have a hardware problem with your computer, this is absolutely the place to go! Elie is the tech you want to see, without a doubt. I have a 2009 iMac on which the hard drive crashed. Brought it to a local place here in Hayward for diagnostic. They replaced the HD, with Yosemite OS. I had High Sierra on my machine before. They said they couldn't access the info on the crashed HD. Not to worry, as I had double back-ups on two NAS systems for them at home, a QNAP, backed up by a SYNOLOGY. So good to go, right? Nada. They didn't even know what a NAS was. So I brought the Mac and the two NAS boxes to Central Computers, in Newark. That's where I had bought the QNAP some years ago. Three years ago I added the SYNOLOGY as a further precaution against total loss as I had incurred some 7 years ago before acquiring the QNAP at Central Computers. They were great to work with then, and had real good prices. They don't carry the QNAP system anymore, but do specialize in the SYNOLOGY systems, which are more user friendly and better priced than the QNAP's are now. Ok, to the present. I told Elsie, the tech, that it appeared the QNAP had stopped backing up Time Machine on my Mac in 2014, and that my SYNOLOGY had also stopped operating just the past week when the HD had crashed. This guy, Elsie, knew exactly what to do, and performed a total re-installation of my High Sierra OS. Then, after finding out that the QNAP had stopped backing up because of a lack of software update, he upgraded the software, and had it fully operable. But it still lacked four years of backups. So he got the SYNOLOGY problem fixed, and there it was! My current Time Machine backups by my Mac on the High Sierra OS on the SYNOLOGY! Whoa, good to go. Elsie upgraded my Mac back up to High Sierra again, and fully restored my computer with all my files from the SYNOLOGY. Elsie kept me informed throughout his analysis over the two days, and had me smiling all the time at his communications and abilities. I expected, and was prepared for a healthy service fee for all that he did, as it was worth it to have everything back on a like-new Mac again. But the real kicker at the end was the ridiculously low service fee he actually charged for all of his work. I looked at their current stock of SYNOLOGY's, and their prices were better than even that place in Fremont(you know what I'm talking about). As I said in the beginning, these guys are the way to go. Unfortunately they don't carry Macs, but they know them in and out, and Elsie even owns them himself at home, in addition to a PC. In hindsight, I wish I had brought the Mac to him in the beginning for the HD replacement. He might have even been able to transfer my crashed HD to the new replacement. Live and learn. The overall experience shopping online and picking the items up was eh. I understand COVID-19 is probably to blame for the shipping time but the help I received from some of the employees was pretty unsatisfactory. That was until I spoke to Moses. Once I talked to him he helped me find everything that fit the requirements of my system while making everything easy to understand for a first time PC builder. And if he couldn't answer one of my questions he would ask someone who could and get back to me right away. He was a huge help compared to some of the other employees I talked to either in store or over the phone, and I probably wouldn't be writing this review if it wasn't for the help I received from him. My laptop's charger wouldn't stay seated, so based on a friend's recommendation, I took it to Central Computers. They called me the same day, and said it was fixed. I picked it up the next day. Between the time I dropped it off, and picked it up, it developed a new problem - the computer kept shutting off when I moved it. I took it back to Central and they fixed it in 2 days - no charge for the 2nd repair. Hope I don't need them again, but if I do, I'll certainly take it back to them. read more

When I need something done on my computer and need it done right, I always take it to Central Computers in Newark. I have taken my processor to them twice, once to replace a power supply that went out and most recently, to add more memory to the computer. The staff there is the most knowledgeable I have found regarding computers. They make suggestions and recommendations regarding what needs to be done. The basic diagnostic charge of $29.95 is extremely fair. Their estimates are accurate and very fair. They always do the work quickly and typically finish a day early.
