. So I have a 2017 iMac 27 inch and I called this place because I had a fusion drive in my Mac that basically wasn't any good anymore so I needed him to replace my hard drive. We agreed on a 2 TB hard drive for $250, I came in and I dropped off my iMac. He said it would take a day. OK a day passes my Mac is ready I'm excited I come in. I have my card in hand ready to pay for the services. I was like great I'm gonna make sure I leave a good Yelp review. If everything went well he said yes everything went great. I said OK I'll leave you guys a positive review. Then some guy comes from the back brings my iMac sits on the table I take a look at it and my screen has scratches everywhere whatever they use to clean my screen has scratches all over. the guys laughing like I'm crazy or something saying they were probably there already. I told them there were no scratches at all, you can clearly see that my screen has been cleaned. He then explained to me that they used the micro fiber towel to wipe it down. So then he brings the towel out. I take a look at it there's debris all over it. So I explain to him that you cannot leave these towels out because they pick up debris and you can clearly see that they have been reusing the same towel. There was debris all over it then wipe my screen with that towel he's telling me I don't know they were already there or take it home and clean it. I'm explaining to him there's nothing to clean these are scratches they're in the screen they caused it. He gave me a $30 discount like are you serious I paid and left because I didn't know what to do. I paid $230 for a hard drive replacement and to have my screen all scratched up. I cannot believe this I am so upset over this, I spent so much money on this computer. I was so excited so happy to have it back then I see all the scratches like what do I do now this is so unprofessional and just so messed up I would never recommend this place to anybody he was unsympathetic and all he could offer me $30 off? Keep your 30$ and go buy some brand new microfiber towels, so this doesn't ever happen again. read more

My partners Max Book Pro burned out its power chip. Of course the Apple Store only offered a logic board replacement. It wasn't the $475 that hurts, it's that it would wipe the hard drive which would be a pain even with backups. And it would be a few weeks. So $295 for a repair by these which only took 48 hours, came with a 6 month warranty, and restored the laptop without nuking the SSD was a no-brained. read more

Have you ever had your car making an odd noise or just not running well that disappears when you arrive at the repair shop? My Mac Air didn't want to turn on. I tried all the tricks in the forums & youtube. Nothing! I have a tablet so I wasn't completely cut-off but food porn is best on a large screen. DT&T has repaired 2 of my other Macs, 1 is 12 years plus and still working great. My Macbook was replaced with the Air. I drop in unannounced and explained the problem. I used these guys a couple years ago and they were great. This time I sent in a MacBook Pro that needed a new screen. Couple weeks and the computer is returned to me. After a couple uses, weird lights started to come up from bottom of screen. They asked me to send back and said it was a defective screen. Couple weeks and my computer is returned to me again. After a few uses I notice webcam is not working. They take the return again to replace screen. They tell me they've installed a 2019, instead of a 2016 model. Now on The third screen I have to wait for weeks. Contact at dt&t tells me they had to return defective screens. Now I find out they are not replacing with new Mac parts. I ask them to send my computer back to me and I'll have it taken care of somewhere else. They returned with no display. So after 4 months, and $550 in expenses for shipping and no display, I had to go somewhere else, which was completed in a week. I'll never go back. I still have not receive the display they said they would return to me. read more

My beloved, ridiculously expensive iMac Pro died April 6, 2020. Apple retail stores and genius bars were closed. Spent a day trying to figure out a software solution and finally realized with the help of apple online support, I likely had a hardware issue. I was looking at possibly months before I could get some help given our current lockdown, shelter in place in the Bay Area. I'm a physician and use my Mac now for tele/video consults, so I was devastated to lose access to this. So, in desperation, I contacted my IT consultant who highly recommended DT&T. My local (So. Cal) go to for Macbook repair used this company as a third party vendor to replace my logic board. I got it back damaged. They claim shipper. Personally, I believe if it'd been packed properly a shipper could not cause it damage. To me, they are responsible. So- they re-ship my laptop to DT & T again to fix so DT & T can file an insurance claim for repair and claim shipper as responsible. Cut to: me getting my laptop back and the supposed "new" frame they put on not only had (different) damage but is also dirty. Highly untrustworthy experience. Perhaps it's different if you walk into the store but I'm horrified by what's transpired for me. I brought my iBook in to replace the broken logic board that is causing my display to go in and out. They quoted me $200 for the replacement and they offer free diagnostic before repair. They promised the laptop will be ready in 2 days. I called back on Monday and the owner told me its not ready and needs another 2 days. He called me about two hours later and told me the HD died as well and quoted me an extra $80. I told him forget it, do not repair or replace anything. I am coming to pick up my laptop right away. I went to pick up the laptop and the owner told me a technician has replaced the logic board already and asked me to wait for an hour to swap it out. Then the owner offered to buy my iBook for $45!!!!! What a joke!!!!! Try somewhere else if you really love your Apple. read more

I like these guys. They're polite, soft-spoken nicotine addicts and they fix my computer for a fraction of the price Apple gives me. They also get it back to me the same day if I ask. Here's Apple: I have to make and keep an appointment, which is a nuisance. The guy at The Autistic Spectrum Bar (no offense to the non-neurotypical community, but the employees at my Apple store behave like Spock when he's feeling withdrawn) looks at the computer, sighs and before he even begins to speak a whirling black vapor fills the air. I cough. He says, "It'll be $125,000 and we'll return it a day or two before they lower you into the ground." Here's DT&T: I walk in, no appointments necessary, so already I'm in love. They open at nine. Get there early if you want it back the same day. A polite guy looks at the computer and says, "It'll be $125 and ready tomorrow." (That's $124,875 less than Apple's estimate.) I say, "Oh really? Because I've totally fucked-up parenting and my kid won't make it until tomorrow." Guy says, "Okay, two o'clock." And it's ready at two and fixed. Update: Guy doesn't always say that. As the years go by, life being life, I don't always get that fairy-tale ending. I still prefer DT&T to Apple. read more

My Cube gave up the ghost after another one of our unpredictable and lengthy power outages. I've got highly protective power strips, but this failure to power up was of another stripe altogether. After the initial suspect (battery) was cleared, I started searching around for a repair shop. Called a few in SF and the Peninsula listed on Yelp. None of them were particularly reassuring; one guy told me to take it to We Fix Macs which I refuse to do (but that's another review); another guy told me to buy a Mac Mini. Finally I asked my former co-worker the Mac IT guy for a recommendation, and he referred me to DT&T. He said a big-name shop (which he wouldn't name) actually subs out all their work to DT&T. I called 'em, described the problem, and they described their flat-rate services ($295 w/6-mo warranty). They reassured me that they had no problem working on an 8-year old computer; in fact, they love Cubes. I drove my precious Cube over the next day. Their facility is clean, modern, and "decorated" with various Mac machines and boxes. Very reassuring. I'm glad I went with them, because as it turned out the Cube hit the trifecta: logic board, power supply, and processor! They even included the old parts with my Cube, without me asking. It's been running like a charm since I re-hooked everything up. These guys are solid! And for the ultimate geek experience, Fry's is right across the street! read more

I doubt I'll be coming back here if my computer nees to be fixed. I should have paid attention to the bad reviews. It does smell like smoke in the place. My problem is that they NEVER call. They'll promise that they will call when it's ready or when they will give me a quote. Nope! I had to call several times myself to get updates. Plus the guy forgot how much money they quoted me, and asked "oh, what did we say we were going to charge"? They didnt have that written down or in their system? Plus I've had a few problems with my computer after I got it back. They did fix my computer and CD-Rom. However, the place is just not run smoothly. I was going to take my broken Macbook to the Apple store in Palo Alto but decided first I'd check the Yelp reviews for this place since it's only a few minutes from my house. Probably the best decision I've made this year! I dropped the Macbook from only about 18" last night and it landed on a rug, on it's corner. I killed the LCD display :-( I'm pretty handy and went to the iFixit web site, after about step number 9 in the instructions I knew I'd be over my head and first I'd have to buy a new screen. I dropped off the laptop around 10:30 this morning, it was ready for me to pick up around lunch time! Beautiful bright new screen, it looks better than it did when I bought it used a year or so ago. They gave me a fixed price when I walked in and that is exactly what I paid. I think I could have saved perhaps $50 if I'd bought the screen myself and I probably could have installed it but I suspect the fit and finish of the laptop would have never been the same. These guys are great, if you've got a Macintosh don't hesitate to bring it here. read more

Punchline: Absolutely the worst repair experience I have ever had. Scenario: G5 Mac goes belly up. Bring in a local who (incorrectly) diagosed the logic board. Recommends DT & T, reliable folks who will fix your computer for a fraction of the Apple store cost. Great! I call them up, get oriented, and off goes my G5. Nothing. I hear crickets. I call..."hello," I say. "I sent you my computer...what's up?" They find the computer and tell me that it's not the logic board, but in fact, the processor. Great. Let's move on. They say "ok" and ship my computer back, supposedly all better. I receive my computer, after trying to track down the wrong UPS code given my by the company, and eagerly try to boot up. Nothing. Not even power. I am concerned. I open the computer. Not only are the guts loose, and improperly situated, but my sound card is gone. I mean the slot is empty. No apologies when I call, but rather, assumptions that somehow I am to blame. I insist to speak with the technician. I have "Joe" go back to his bench and look for the sound card. He finds it, lo and behold, and takes another week to send it back to me. Meanwhile, the company pays to ship back the unit to fix it again. Two weeks later, (or more, I stopped counting,) they send it back. Now, the cooling fan is running like a Ferrari, and my processor speed is for nil. I crash several times and can't access one of my hard drives. Irate, pissed, etc, I have them pick it up again. I take out all my drives, my cards, ram, etc. Nothing left for them to fix but the computer. Finally, they returned the computer, to an almost new state. I continue to have processor issues. I am unsatisfied with this company, and wasted six months of my life worrying about it. GO ELSEWHERE!!! read more

Spilled chocolate milk all over my macbook air, which i've only owned for 1 year. I brought it in to the Apple store and one of the "geniuses" opened it up in the back of the store, took some photos on her phone to show me there's milk all over it (duh! that's what I told her). The genius proceeds to tell me that it's very badly damaged because there was milk all over and I can send it in to a third party store via them for $755 for restoration to health. I asked the genius to take out the hard drive for me, since i didn't have the special screwdriver to open up the computer. I went on yelp and found We Fix Macs! in Berkeley and spoke to Howard, hoping he can extract my photos/videos from my hard drive. He told me that there's a possibility my Mac can actually be fixed and referred me to DT&T since I live in Fremont. There's a glimmer of hope and I was ecstatic! I brought my "dead" Mac to DT&T and they did a free diagnostics on my computer. They told me everything was working, except for the logic board! Woot woot! I gave them the ok to change out the logic board and I got my computer back to life within a day!! They even fixed a few keys that were broken from when my husband removed the individual keys for the computer to dry. I went from devastation to elation! Both the Apple store and a recommended local Apple cert. repair shop felt that my computer likely had a faulty HD and logic board. My computer was effectively totalled (est. repair cost $600). The Apple cert. shop suggested I buy a new machine. I decided to give DT&T a try after reading some reviews and checking out their prices. They provided a free diagnostic and found a faulty logic board. The HD was apparently fine. A replacement board with installation was $295 and included a 6mo warranty on parts. OMG! OMG! OMGGGG!!! This place saved my life. I was using my husband's 15" MacBook Pro that accidentally fell from my lap. Though fully functional, it left a crack on the screen. I did not want to get my hubby upset as he is VERY possessive about his Apple devices - a big Steve Jobs fan. I just had to get it fixed w/o him knowing and in the very little time I had while he was away for work. I took it to DT&T and was told that it'll take around 3 - 4 hours. I told them it was urgent... Gosh! These guys are awesome. I went on a wonderful business trip to Budapest (woot!) and on my way there busted my poor old ibook G4. Turned the thing on and all I got was a flashing screen, but when I pressed on the left side of the track pad it worked! After searching online, I found out it was the video chip on the logic board. With only a few days until I give my advisor my *final* thesis draft, I HAD to get this thing fixed! I first brought my comp to 2 places in Palo Alto, both confirmed logic board problems but one said I'd have to buy a new comp at around $900 and the other that said they could fix it for $350! One even returned my poor computer smudged with dirt and hand prints! What the heck! So, after finding DT&T on Yelp, I trekked across the bay and brought them my machine on a Friday. By Tuesday morning it was fixed and Wednesday I picked it up for only $260 + 6 mos. warranty. Plus, they cleaned it up. :) These guys are good, quick, and knowledgeable. Accidents happen. However, despite costing an extra 200-300 dollars on top of an already almost-$2k laptop, Applecare is completely useless when it comes to accidental damage. After a somewhat heavy desk lamp decided to jump off the upper shelf of my desk onto my closed macbook pro and crack my screen, my first instinct was to head to the apple store to get it fixed. A 30 min drive up to Pleasanton later, the "genius" takes a quick look at my screen and says the cost of repair would be more than my computer was worth. $1250 for an LCD repair! Granted, they were probably going to replace the entire top half of my laptop, but like hell I'm paying that much when I just need the screen replaced. To the internets I go. Though there are other places that will do an LCD repair for a little cheaper, this place was only about 5-10 minutes away from my house and $395 was a lot more reasonable than $1250. Service was fast, I got my laptop back within 24 hours. Plus they replaced the dented top case for me for free. I will say, however, that the shop does smell kinda smoky. They leave their door open and I've seen one of the guys there smoking right outside the door, so that's probably where the smell comes from. read more
