Had some major issues with terminating an Ethernet cable... Brendan was able to help us. Amazing.. thanks again

Amazing location. Had an issue with terminating an Ethernet cable.... Wasn't able to do it onsite with customer... embarrassing to say the least Brought it back to central computers and Brendan was able to help get it done! He did have to do it a few times, so it made me feel better that I couldn't get it done ha Overall very thankful to Brendan and team for saving the day today

I recently worked on a PC build for personal use. I had ordered a Cooler Master AIO from Amazon. But two separate units delivered turned out to be defective. So I decided to go to Central Computers where the team helped validate that I did indeed receive faulty units. The team there also helped me pick out an alternative cooler from Noctua. Overall, it was a great experience and Central Computers has been a go to for many other tech stuff that I quickly need.

This review is long overdue, but wanted to share my experiences with ordering a custom PC from here last summer. With five locations around the Bay Area, Central Computers is a Bay Area staple when it comes to brick and mortar computer stores. Sourcing computer components at a reasonable price in this day and age might be difficult (especially with graphics cards), but Central Computers offer very competitive prices, which makes it an attractive option for someone who wants a custom PC. With my gaming days long behind me, I did not need a top-of-the-line rig, but I did not want to settle for a budget PC from a big-box store; as a PC hardware hobbyist, I still wanted a very capable machine. I've built a few computers in the past, but this time around, I'd rather save my own time from building the PC myself, and let them assemble it for me. I spoke with Charlie, one of their reps, about the specs I was looking for. He also inquired on what the use for the PC would be, so he would be able to come up with an ideal setup that would fit my use. Never at any time did I feel that I was being up-sold at all. We spec-ed out a solid mid-range build that I felt would serve me well for the next few years (Zen 4-based platform, 32 GB DDR5 memory, RTX 4070 Super, 2 TB NVMe, 850 watt power supply). I did not commit to the build just yet, as I wanted them to give me a quote for the build so I can think about it first. The prices they quoted were in line with the prices if I were to buy the parts individually from online retailers. I also spec-ed out an equivalent PC from various system integrators and it would have cost at least $200-$300 more than the quote that Central Computers gave me. As a result, I decided to go ahead with the build and agreed to the quote. The process was very straightforward. I paid 50% of the total upfront, and paid the remaining 50% when I picked up the PC. Their $99 build and testing fee is very reasonable. I also opted to not purchase Windows, as I was fine with just running an unactivated version. The build itself would take no more than a few hours, but I was told that it will take a few days until it will be ready for me to pick up. Given the number of PCs I saw they had behind their counter that were being assembled or serviced, this is understandable, as they have a queue of other customers to take care of. It's also worth mentioning that when I was there getting my initial quote, a customer brought in an RTX 4090 FE card for them to install in his rig. After a few days, I gave them a call and confirmed that my PC was ready for pickup. The PC was securely stored in the box that came with the case, and they also packed the boxes for the other components in a separate box. After bringing it home and plugging everything in, the computer was working and it successfully booted up into the BIOS. Installing Windows was a breeze. I inspected the build quality, and I can confidently say that their technicians do an excellent job with their builds. Everything was properly connected and the cable management was very clean. Their technicians definitely know their way around computers, and they put in the time to make sure customers are satisfied with their builds. While I can only speak from first hand experience about the customer experience at their San Mateo location, I am confident that customers will receive the same quality experience at their other locations. Overall, I highly recommend Central Computers if you are looking to have a custom PC but don't want to assemble it yourself and don't want to pay a premium to system integrators for an equivalent PC.

One less sale to a brick and mortar store. One less interaction with a human who can answer a question IRL and IRT. One missed opportunity to see and touch product for yourself. Sure you might get a sour reply. Or an agent who doesn't know a picofarad from a PC board. You might also get damaged deliveries from Amazon. Sure the return process is relatively painless, but the time spent is less productive than hammering out whatever issue it is with the store. I bought two Arduino kits from Amazon. One was damaged and couldn't be used so I searched for replacements and looked at Jameco. Their site yielded pages of replacements and alternatives. Between the selection and the descriptions, I was able to what I was looking for a a few things I didn't know I needed. Kind of like browsing at Fry's. Yes, they have minimum quantity purchases for many items. Yes, your browsing is going to be mostly online. When I went to pick up my items, the display area was basically the lobby. The person at the desk could answer some questions and "a guy in the back" could provide more detail. This is what it takes to maintain a physical retail presence for many specialty shops these days. I learned of Anchor from someone else, and I'll visit that store one day. But it's twice as far from me as Jameco, and Jameco delivered what I needed.

Because my local Targets are based on the Targets (Daly City, South City and San Francisco). I'm used to a certain level of product availability, coordination between staff members and Customers and finally, the parking lot are is a nice sizable space that should fit a large amounts of cars but to be honest it doesn't. This location doesn't necessarily meet all of this key points but as a Target store. They still meet the basic requirements and needs. The produce is great and fresh. The isles are fully stocked, even if it's lacking some key products that I can find closer to the Peninsula. The bathrooms are clean the isles are clearly visible and marked by signs for customers to navigate easier. These are basic necessities that are so very important as a customer. Now, for the things that can really use some improvements. Before you even get into the store. The parking is rough, to say the least. Because this Target is located in a strip mall and not in its own private lot. Parking can be a free-for-all. My personal recommendation, the earlier you can shop the easier it is to find a space. Let's put it this way to be nice. Some of the staff aren't the most comfortable in their roles. Their body language and attitude, can really use some adjusting. Not all but some do need better training. Whether it's because they're not having a good day or they're just not happy. Staff need to do better. Especially when dealing with the public. The value is always great at Target but pointless if you can't stand being in the store. There's always room for improvement, and improvement is needed in key places. The drive-up/ order pickup is also an issue. I made an online order with products that were shown to be fully in-stock. An hour later, I was sent a notification that half my order was ready but the other half was not available. How? if everything online was shown to be in-stock. Although, I was bothered I went to pickup the order anyway. Parking sucked because customers used the order pick-up spaces as regular vehicle parking. When I finally found parking, I got my order and drove off. A few of the items were completely wrong. Causing me to go back and fix the error myself. The staff have to-do better, they just need to find it. Please make sure that all drive up and go orders are accurate before releasing items to the customers. and not giving someone else's order out. You can easily kill an hour or two here just window shopping or actual shopping. Imagine the kinda fun you can have with kids in tow. Just make sure yo have an idea of what you want and not rely on staff for help. It's hit or miss on how it will affect your experience.

Today, while passing through the area, I stopped in to look for boots for my daughter. While browsing in the girls' shoe section, I noticed a man with a coffee cup, no basket or cart, who was repeatedly pacing the aisle and watching me without selecting any merchandise. He continued walking past me several times, said excuse me one of those times looked me dead in the eye when he said it , would go to the end of the aisle or pretend to browse on the other side while peeking around the corner at me. It was downright creepy and uncomfortable! However, this was not just some random creep, he was very obviously a secret shopper and employee of Target. I did not find what I was looking for so as I was leaving the store, I noticed he was again watching me exit intently! I get it Target, you are concerned about security and loss prevention, however, tell your secret shoppers to try to keep themselves less obvious and more secretive because the interaction (if you can even call it that) was just flat out unsettling. Just shop at Bridgepointe instead.
