I have been to Central Park many times but often just end up wandering aimlessly. This time I really wanted to see all of it and decided to rent a bike. Then I saw a blogger on Pinterest who reviewed and recommended a bike tour through Unlimited Biking. I thought that would be the most productive way of renting a bike. It was a great decision. Having a bike and riding with a group and a guide was awesome. My guide was Dan and he was fun, informative and personable. He did his best to include and connect with every one in our group. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! I had the most amazing time in Central Park thanks to Central Park Sightseeing! I've been to Central Park before during a previous trip to NYC but I had never taken a tour of the park. I decided to try out the 1 hour pedicab tour & it by far exceeding my expectations! Their store on 56th is super close to the park which is a bonus. The tour guide, Cengo, was so knowledgeable & friendly -- he really made the tour amazing!! He knew tons of information about historical facts as well as fun & trendy info (such as interesting things about where popular movies were shot in certain parts of the park & fun facts about certain celebrities & where they live). It was really cool learning about the history behind the park & our tour guide would also show us pictures from the early 1900's of the exact location(s) that we were at which really brought the history to life! He took us to beautiful picturesque locations & knew the best spots for us to get out & take pictures. I had such an amazing time & will definitely be doing another pedicab tour with Central Park Sightseeing the next time I am in NYC!! I also had the pleasure of doing a horseback riding tour of Central Park along with 2 of my friends & it was unforgettable! The horses are so sweet & you can tell that they are very well cared for. I hadn't ridden a horse for about 15 years or so but I was immediately at ease because the horses were very gentle, quiet, & friendly -- not to mention the guides were amazing! The guides walked alongside us while we rode along the trail in Central Park -- the sights were absolutely breathtaking & it felt like a dream to be riding a horse in the middle of NYC! The horses were so well-behaved -- I have ridden horses in the past so I had some experience & decided to hold the reigns during my ride but one of my friends hadn't ridden horses before so she had one of the guides lead her horse during the ride. The ride was lovely & the guides were so friendly as well. It was an experience that I will never forget! Found a great deal on Groupon for 2 bikes for 2 hours. I called ahead to make a reservation, but was told it wasn't needed. When we showed up, there was a long line, but it moved quickly and we had no problem getting bikes. The employees were quick and efficient without being rude or dismissive. We didn't get helmets, locks, or insurance, but we did get one basket, which was great and no extra charge. The store is only a few blocks from Central Park-it's easy enough to walk your bikes on the sidewalk to the entrance. The sidewalks are crowded, but it's not a big inconvenience and doesn't take long-5ish minutes Note that the bike paths in Central Park are roads shared with walkers and runners, pedicabs, horse-drawn carriages, skateboarders, roller bladers, etc. and some cars (and if you want to go on the interior walking paths to see some things like fountains, sculpture/statues, etc., you must walk or park your bike). It can also be a rather hilly excursion, so dress accordingly and bring water. We were expecting it to be more leisurely, but enjoyed the exercise! (this was no fault or lack of info from Central Park Sightseeing). We took about an hour and a half to ride around the park on the bike path, including a 15 minute break. Turned in our bikes 30 minutes early, but still money well spent. As someone who lives in the city, this was a great activity and a fun way to see more of Central Park than I have before. I'll certainly do it again with future visitors or on a beautiful day. I recommend looking on Groupon for deals from this company (or others) as you can really get a good discount. Central Park Sightseeing does charge you tax even on Groupons, so come prepared. read more

Polite staff but unorganized. I had booked 3 bikes from 6 to 7. I arrived there at 5:50. They gave me the bikes at 6:10 and told me to be back by 6:45 because they're closing. So basically we had 45' minutes to get to Central Park and come back. All that after taking my money of course. There are extra fees there in case you booked the bikes online. I'm giving two stars because at least when we returned the bikes late (6:57) they did not make a fuss about it or charge us extra fees. However, my experience was stressful because of that. read more

Took the Central Park tour but it would have been better to just rent a bike and ride around the park ourselves. The guide was nice enough but there were way too many stops and too much picture taking. Also, they were not located in the park and where they did have their storefront was a few blocks from the park, crowded! and seemingly disorganized. You had to walk your bike to the park. Ugh, People coming in and out at the same time in a crammed space was a hassle. Got charged $2 for insurance (really?). Finally, in the hubbub I never noticed that when he charged me the $2 the clerk also kept my drivers license to 'hold,' I guess. Had he not remembered to give it back to me, I would have wound up at the airport w/no ID!!!! read more

Minus one star because the bike wasn't the best but would have been fine for a casual stroll. The guy told us to wait by the door for bikes but didn't tell the woman who was giving it the bikes. Great tour but they charged me twice for the tour, which I wonder whether or not this was by accident or part of a scam. They did refund my money when I brought it to there attention, but there was no explanation, apology, etc. II write this review to warn others out there to check your credit card bill to make sure you were charged the right amount afterwards. Woohoo is right! I had used Central Park Sightseeing to rent bikes once or twice before and was very satisfied, but this month i opted for the month-long, "Unlimited Biking" package-- you get 30 days of biking 4 hours a day for just 20 bucks total. The price alone is FANTASTIC, since you could easily spend $15-20 on a single 4-hour bike rental, and here you get 30 days worth for the same price! But what's really amazing about this company is the customer service. Co-owner Mary has been there EVERY DAY of the 4 days i've been there since signing up; she's super friendly and helpful and welcomes feedback about the bikes. I suggested that she carry a particular bike accessory in the shop and she emailed me two days later with the news that she's going to order it! And when you have the Unlimited membership, you get TOTAL VIP treatment-- you bypass any lines and get a bike ON THE SPOT, WITHOUT WAITING. Just buy this package. Even if you use it only TWICE, it will have paid for itself-- and you'll be delighted by the EXCELLENT service. read more

I purchased a Groupon while in town for a 2 hour rental. The guys that work there were super upbeat and friendly! The bikes were in great shape. They also have baskets and locks available too. The way to get around and see a lot of Central Park is by bike! I would recommend renting bikes from this group, 2 blocks away and you're right in the park! read more

This turned out to be my favorite New York activity of our whole trip! The bikes were nice and in good condition and they didn't make me wear a helmet, which I very much appreciated. Customer Service - just ok - the person who handed out the helmets, baskets and locks was kind of rude - she only gave us 2 locks for 3 bikes which became a REAL problem. They were more interested in getting you out the door than really fitting you on the bike. That being said - because we booked online the all day price was very good and we had a wonderful day - except for the locking the bikes up thing. Within a 5 minute walk to central park which is nice. We booked online and saved almost 50%. The only issue was my spouse recieved one of the red comfort bikes and i had a cannondale hybrid. Mine was much nicer, and faster (more gears and lighter) than hers. We did the entire 6 mile loop in an hour but it was difficult pushing that "red tank" around. Next time we will be more specific about which bike we recieve. read more

The good: -Excellent customer service, friendly and helpful staff. The not-so-good: -The place where you rent the bikes is not in the park. If you plan on taking little kids, you should know that you have to walk your bikes a good 5 blocks to the park. (Or ride in the street, which I don't recommend with kids!) -I called a day in advance to reserve a bike with a kids' trailer for the back. The website says they have this available. The guy on the phone told me not to bother with the reservation, they had plenty. Well surprise! They didn't have any the next day. The 7 year old got her own bike and the 5 year old ended up in a "baby seat" on the back of mine. Not an ideal way to maneuver two kids 5 blocks through city traffic to get to the park!! -I would say this is a great thing for adults, a single adult with a baby or toddler or for older teenagers, but I don't recommend it for little kids! read more

Dan was very helpful taking pictures for us and giving us our own time to enjoy every spot he showed us. Horrible experience on our first day in NYC. Make sure you read the rental agreement before you rent. We got burned big time. I and my wife recently spent four days in New York City on a short holiday. We decided to rent bicycles from "Unlimited Biking" near Central Park as we planned to cycle in the park and visit the local museum's. When we visited the rental store to collect the two bikes, we were asked if we wanted to spend an extra $2 each for additional cover for any damages to the bike, a flat tyre at no point were we told this was also to cover theft. We declined to pay the extra as we felt it was not necessary, we were not going to damage the bikes and only planned to have for a few hours. We had New York Pass and pre-booked bikes in advance paying $45 each and assumed that covered any issues such as bike insurance and theft....which we later found out was wrong. I signed the rental agreement, paid the deposit by credit card, and we collected the bikes, locks and helmets, and went on our way. We cycled through central park to the Guggenheim Museum on 1071 5th Ave. We locked the bikes up outside on a bike rack and went into the museum for 90mins. On our return, we discovered that one of the bikes had been stolen from outside the museum - at 13:30 in the afternoon! We raised the issue with the Guggenheim Museum security. They reviewed surveillance camera footage and could see that a man with a set of cutters cut the lock off the bike and cycled away on it. They advised us to go to the nearest police precinct and file a report. This is when the fun began. We called Unlimited Biking and told them what happened. They informed us that we would have to pay $600 to replace the bike as we had not taken out additional insurance. WTF !!! Furious and upset, we left the Guggenheim then had to walk for 45 mins in the rain with the remaining bike in toe back to the rental store. When we got there we again were told we had to pay $600 as we had not paid extra $2 additional cover. We explained to them that we had never been told by their staff that we would be liable for the full cost of any of the bikes if they were stolen. They said, " You signed the rental agreement and all the details are outlined in it". We read the rental agreement again and noticed that even if we had taken out the $2 additional cover, we would still NOT be fully covered if the bike was stolen and we would have to pay $400. So basically with or without the $2 extra cover, the minute you walk out of their shop 'Unlimited Biking' you are liable for $400 if anything happens the bike. Firstly, I don't understand why this additional $2 is not already included in the cost of renting the bikes, why give customers the option. Don't you think a person would pay $2 if it was going to save them $200? Secondly, why is there no fully comprehensive insurance offer to customers, so if anything happens to the bike they are not liable $400 or $600 and can leave the shop with no worries Thirdly, no details of liability or information about damage/theft are on the 'Unlimited Biking' or 'New York Pass' website. We again argued that this should have been verbally explained to us before we rented. If we knew in advance, we would not have taken the bikes. It would be cheaper to get taxis or walk to the museums near central park. Seeing that we were visually upset, the "Unlimited Biking" staff said they would waver the $200 and only charge us $400. HOW NICE OF THEM.... Now $400 out of pocket, we went to the nearest police precinct to file an official report as we were told by Unlimited Biking that potentially our travel insurance could cover it. We spent two hours in the precinct ultimately for nothing as on our return home we were informed that our travel insurance does not cover as we don't own the bike and where renting. I'm sure Unlimited biking insurance covers them for loss of property so not only do they recoup from the insurance company but also get additional money from customers. Take my advice read all the details about theft cover and make sure you are insured if renting bikes. If you are liable for $400 the minute you walk out the door don't lock the bike up, make sure you stay on the bike at all times. I would stay away for this company because of the experience we had. Do not rent bicycles from Unlimited Biking. read more
