Our stay here was amazing-- JeanE is so friendly and helpful, and it was my favorite bed and breakfast on Nantucket by far. You can use the whole wrap around veranda, with two couches and there are two patios you can eat on, and there are glasses and basically anything you would need in the kitchen/ living room area. The place really felt like home. You are also free to go into the living room whenever you want, and there are usually fresh baked goods for you in there. There was also always fresh water and ice on the veranda. My husband and I stayed here right before he needed knee surgery, and JeanE was kind enough to let him keep his ice pack in the freezer to use. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Century House - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Nantucket, Massachusetts

This hotel took complete advantage of my wife and I when we booked our 5 year anniversary stay here. An unpredicted hurricane hit the area cancelling all ferries for our first of a two night stay. When we explained the situation to the Inn we were told we should find a flight to the island that same day. Unfortunately, that wasn't a financial option for us to book a same day flight to the island that was going to be hit by a hurricane. When we asked to be able to rebook our $900 stay we were told the next weekend was our only option which was impossible since we didn't have child care for the following weekend. The hotel took our money and never did anything to help us out. Happy anniversary to us. Love the Century House. Don't let them take your money too!!! read more

We had the pleasure of staying at Century House this past week. It was our first trip to Nantucket and we couldn't have picked a better inn. The innkeeper, JeanE, was super welcoming us into the inn and helpful in providing us with some ideas of things we should check out during our visit. We stayed in the Geranium room and while it was on the smaller side, it was charming and very clean. The inn was super close to downtown Nantucket and although we spent more time exploring than we did relaxing at the inn, they had a beautiful living area and veranda where you could hang out if you chose to do so. Even though we only had breakfast once our entire stay, (I just prefer a hot, larger breakfast) the spread they had was pretty vast and delicious. All in all, we had an amazing trip and would like to thank everyone at Century House for a great stay! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Century House. It's a short walk up from the ferry and easy walk into town center. I've stayed here before, but this time the living room had been redecorated and a lovely gas fireplace added. It was so inviting! The hosts and staff were all very helpful and friendly. The Century House was a wonderful stay! I stayed in Sweet Pea, which was so charming. The rooms are fully stocked with everything you need, including hair dryer, toiletries, and a robe. Breakfast is such a treat with JoAnn and Jeanne. They are a wealth of information on things to do in Nantucket. The food is fantastic. This B and B is a quick walk to Main Street and all the festivities in Nantucket. If you are looking for a slice of New England charm, I recommend this place. Rude and intrusive owner and My 82 yr old mother and I arrived at check in to be treated like 5 year olds. We were sat down for a lecture on how and where we were to use our room key, told we could not take it with us when we leave that we were to hide it some where in the building, we were also told that we could not take long hot showers or let the bathroom steam up because it would set off a hard wired fire alarm calling the fire department and making everybody exit the building, we were told the cold water runs hot for the first few minutes till it gets cool that you have to wait, the toilet water was so hot it steamed up the bathroom and your butt, the room was barely big enough to move around in with all of the excessive furniture, the bathroom door would not shut, water stains all over the walls, had to be instructed on how to open and use the front door, the bathroom and shower were not big enough to spin a circle, I was told I could not walk around bare foot because the health inspector might come in and write them up, I immediately has an allergic reaction to something like dust or cats which are the only things that make me sneeze incessantly, she feels the need to bore you with her stories and history for ever and all of this and more while paying TOP DOLLAR. We would have left immediately but you must pay in advance. This was my mother's and my birthday weekend together away weekend and was basically ruined by this poor experience. Do yourself a favor and stay any where else. read more

There aren't enough good things to say about Century House!!!! We had a wonderful stay here, the rooms were clean, GORGEOUS, and the food was delicious--I felt like I was staying at a family's summer home :) For the number of other guests staying as well, we surprisingly felt like the only people in the B&B--it's quite private, and you can't hear anybody! Not to mention, so conveniently located to everything you need on the island. Jean was the most wonderful, accommodating, helpful host--and hilarious to boot. We just sat down on the boat to head home, and I miss JeanE and Joanne so much. Our room Sweet Pea was located right off the covered porch. It was adorable and just enough room for the two of us. Who spends a ton of time in your room when you are on Island??? Even in the rain we sat on the porch and had a cup of coffee. Why we love about this location so much is that it is quiet. It's just outside of the hustle and bustle of town, yet it's a short walk to everything. We will definitely be back!! read more

I made what I thought was a fairly common and easily fixed mistake when booking the room (I used the wrong card and had to update to the correct one within 24 hours) but ended up in a surprisingly terse conversation about it with the innkeeper. As it turns out she was navigating a frustrating banking system on her end, so it was more complicated for her than I assumed. When I met her in person she was actually a fairly nice person. But the unnecessarily combative tone over the phone made for an uncomfortable check in, even after we'd established that I wouldn't be refused a room. I had a great time there though. Century House has fantastic, comfortable old rooms. The cleaning staff were really helpful and friendly too. read more

Arrived at this Bed & Breakfast Thursday, August 10th and what a terrible way to begin our stay. My wife is expecting and the Inn is in a great location roughly 15 minutes walking distance from the port where the water ferries drop off new arrivals to the island. So my wife and I decided to walk as walking has been her favorite form of exercise while pregnant. After walking approximately 20 minutes due to our luggage and traveling at a leisurely pace we were greeted by a a member of the staff who stated the "Inn Keeper" would be right with us shortly. While waiting we asked if they could hold our luggage because we arrived about 2 hours prior to Check in and we were escorted to a wood storage shed. Afterward, my wife entered the Inn's restroom to use it and also change into her beach clothing as we were going to enjoy the beach for a while rather than waste 2-3 hours of our time at the island. It is important to note, that our Ferry left at 11 and the next one would not leave until 3:30 so we had no choice but to choose the 11:00 Ferry. As a result, we arrived a little earlier than check in time. While my wife was still in the restroom the Inn Keeper finally appeared. I may remind you we had arrived for at least 10 minutes before she came to greet us. We sat down on a couch and she immediately asked where my wife was. I explained to her that while we were waiting she needed to use the rest room. Within the next 3 minutes she stated 3 different rude comments while waiting for my wife to finish. 1. "Let's go, where is she?" 2. "In my line of work every minute counts" 3. "Go knock on the door and get her out already" She also stated that she refused to have to say "the same thing twice." I was appalled by the rudeness and how inconsiderate she was as she had never met either of us and had not even laid eyes on my wife yet. My wife could not believe that I had to go literally knock on the rest room door twice in literally 3 minutes to rush her out. Let's not forget my wife is 5 1/2 months pregnant. Throughout the stay the Inn Keeper made a few more off colored comments that made the both of us feel uncomfortable and not welcomed. The breakfast was average at best consisting of pastries, fresh fruit, hot oatmeal, a loaf of bread, and hard boiled eggs. There were no hot options available besides oatmeal and coffee or tea. I am very disappointed with our stay. I have traveled throughout the world and this is my first review becsuse this was a special moment for my wife and I. We both love to travel and know we might have to push our joy of traveling to the back seat with our precious little bundle of joy arriving soon. We chose Nantucket becsuse of the beautiful scenery, beaches, boutiques, eateries, and what we thought would be a wonderful experience at a lovely B&B. Also, many other dedtinations were cut off the list due to the "Zikka" virus or being to far a way for my wife to travel comfortably. It is sad that this Inn Keeper left a sour taste in an otherwise lovely 3 day vacation in Nantucket. This gets 2 stars instead of 1 because of location and the grounds are well kept and beautiful. We had a wonderful stay here. JeanE was lovely, and she was always so happy to see us when we were using the couches on the veranda to read. The breakfast is very nice and it's exactly as described on their website online. We had the distinct pleasure of staying here on their first day of their season. The owners were exceptionally friendly, the facility looked newly renovated, the breakfast bar awesome..,.. the homemade oatmeal and granola along with the fresh fruit buffet helped start each day the right way. But have never been laughed at directly versus being professional and saying nothing was available. No other establishment did or has done this on the island. Very unfortunate. We had an amazing stay last season at the Century House, the Inn keepers and staff were friendly and accommodating, and directed us the several must see locations on Island and recommended shops in town. Our room was clean and always refreshed after a day at the beach or afternoons in town shopping, great location a wonderful walk into town. We enjoyed a laid back breakfast each morning, chatting with other guest. Just an over all pleasant and friendly expirience. Looking forward to returning this summer. read more

Stayed here the weekend prior to Labor Day with girlfriends. The location of the House is great. Very close to town. We were very excited to stay here and left very disappointed. The inn keeper did not make us feel welcome at all. It was as if we were intruding in her home. Breakfast ends at 10am and I asked for a banana after my run. It was 10:15am and she reminded me that breakfast ended at 10am, the kitchen is off limits and handed me an old banana, when she had fresher ones but would not give it to me when I asked. She told me thtats the best she could od until tomorrow, but I clearly saw ones that wer enot as rip eunder the bowl. Really? It's a banana! She was not mean, but just not friendly or warm and welcoming. Every time we asked for something is was as if she was frustrated. Why run an inn? We also got reprimanded for using a cheese board from the kitchen for our cheese we bought to have cheese and wine one day. There are so many other better places in Nantucket that are cheaper as well. Loved Nantucket and will definitely be back. read more

You will feel at home the moment that you step into this historic inn. Thoughtfully furnished, clean and comfortable guest rooms. My boyfriend and I did not have a great experience at this inn, and found the owners to be completely unaccommodating and overbearing. We arrived on a red-eye flight from the West Coast and, after transferring through Boston, we found ourselves in Nantucket around 10 am. Now, we knew it was too early to check in, but we didn't think it would be a problem to leave our bags in a SECURE place at our hotel. We were wrong. Century House refuses to keep your stuff. Instead, they provide space on their porch, and tell you 15 times that they are not responsible if stuff goes missing. Considering we had our work laptops and camera equipment, we didn't really feel very comfortable leaving our stuff on the porch, especially after being told it wasn't their problem if stuff went missing. So we had to haul it around with us ALL day. When we called at 1:36PM to see if our room was ready, the answer was no. Check is at 2PM. No flexibility whatsoever. Apart from the ridiculous baggage policy, we were not fond of the 20 minute check in lecture, where we had to hear every single rule (and there are a lot of rules). Keep in mind that we had just gotten off of a red-eye, and the LAST thing we wanted to sit through was this. When we finally escaped (and escaped is what it felt like), we hauled our stuff around for the rest of the day until were were allowed to check in. When we came back (after 2PM of course) to check in, we were greeted by the owner's sister, who wanted to go through the whole check in lecture again. It took five minutes to get her to understand we already knew all of the rules, we had friends waiting for us outside, and we just wanted to drop our bags off in our room. This is, of course, after we waited 10-minutes for her to show up with the key, even though we had called ahead telling her we were 2 minutes away. The next morning at breakfast, the owner's sister, who was overseeing breakfast, reprimanded some guy next to me for using a glass glass (instead of a plastic glass) for his orange juice because he might break the glass. We are talking about an adult man here, and I'm sure he was fully capable of not breaking the glass. Once we had our oatmeal (that is what breakfast is, oatmeal), it was cold outside, but my boyfriend and I decided to sit outside just so we could enjoy our breakfast in peace. Unfortunately, the owner found us outside, interrupted our breakfast, and asked my boyfriend (who was shaking his leg) if he was cold or had to go to the bathroom. Totally appropriate question to ask a paying guest at your inn. Upon check-out, we were asked to write a fabulous review on trip advisor. Here is what was fabulous: (1) the house was lovely; (2) our room was clean and adorable; (3) our bed was very comfortable; and (4) the inn is pretty close to town. As for the rest, it wasn't an enjoyable experience. The luggage policy is such an inconvenience (we had to pay another hotel to take our luggage once we checked out) that on that alone, I would not recommend staying here. Add on the obnoxious check-in lecture, the completely over-priced hotel room, and the overbearing owners and staff - we will be staying somewhere else next time. read more

The Inn Keepers; Jean & Gerry were lovely and very welcoming. Our rooms were absolutely beautiful, comfortable, clean, very quaint. The guest area was comfortable, relaxing, and quite. Breakfast was substantial and delicious. The location was perfect as it was close to the Ferry terminal, the beach, and the center of town with all of the shops and restaurants. We definitely will stay here again and highly recommend this beautiful Bed & Breakfast. read more

We stayed there this past weekend while doing hair and makeup for a wedding on the island and had a great experience. The owner was very nice and a short distance to downtown. On a side note, we left some items in the room and she immediately sent us an email to inform us. She was even willing to drive to us to drop them off, but we were already in Boston. So she told us not to worry because she was going to drop them in the post. Would totally stay there again. read more

If your looking to enjoy and have fun on the island, don't even consider staying here. Jean will act like your overbearing, rude, and crazy mom. She made rude remarks at me and my girlfriends the entire time we stayed here and we found ourselves actually scared of walking through the halls. We ate breakfast outside everyday because we did not want to be harassed by the rude staff once again and we left for the beach as soon as we could every morning, not wanting to spend a second more in that place. Don't even consider going down to breakfast at 10:04, because Jean will passive aggressively remind you that it ended at 10, not 10:04, 10. It is super close to town so if you do find yourself staying here, you can easily escape to town upon arrival. The lecture you get when first arriving is actually comical! So many rules you would think you were at a children's summer camp! The rooms are nice, but once again come with many rules. The constant supply of cookies is outstanding and super pleasing! All and all we found the innkeepers to be very rude and passive aggressive, I would not recommend staying here if you are looking to lay back and enjoy yourself on the island, and let's not even get into the prices. How could I forget, Jean made me leave my backpack at the bottom of the stairs because she had a bizarre rule that you cannot have anything on your back or your side while walking up the stairs. You will get the feeling Jean is watching you at all times. I would seriously consider buying a house on this island before staying here again! However there is a constant supply of coffee which is nice. read more
