I was taken here for my birthday and unfortunately for me it was a big miss. .Look at the menu in advance. The restaurant website has a mostly up to date menu, which apparently doesn't change much. Not a single veg main. I lean pescatarian and try to eat healthy and there was nothing. Think cheeseburger, steak frites, sweetbreads, boudin sausage, tempura softshell crabs, swordfish. There was a roast lobster for $75 but too pricey, and no idea if I would have liked it. Pretty sure that I would prefer a lobster roll at Walter's. They have a foie gras app. We all ordered the beet salad, and it was the only time I can remember not enjoying that usually delicious choice. No one enjoyed it. It is served kind of like steak tartare, finely minced beets that were very difficult to eat without making a mess. I really tried and still got a small stain on my white shirt. I love most beet salads. It did not have any cheese, I think it is often served with goat cheese. It did have beautiful, unusual salad leaves on the side. It was bland and other than being healthy, not much to recommend it. There wasn't a single main course that appealed to me. It's not a large selection, 8 choices. Usually I can find things easily so this was not par for the course. I asked if there was a veg main. Our server came back and said the chef could make a risotto. There was a "BLT risotto" on the vegetable sides, and I love BLTs but I don't like risotto so I ordered the fluke which he said came with a Dijon vinaigrette. I had been thinking of just ordering two vegetable sides, but I knew it would make my parents uncomfortable if I didn't get a main, my mistake. I asked the waiter if the fluke came with vegetables, he said yes, zucchini. Well, I would say there is about maximum 1/2 ounce of zucchini, kind of shredded underneath the fish. Unfortunately, imo Dijon vinaigrette on fish is not good. .Seems mains are essentially served without vegetables. One of those restaurants with pricey mains where you need to order sides as extras. I hesitated to order dessert since I had struck out two for two, but ordered the chocolate pot de crème. It was pretty good. Overall though, the experience was not enjoyable, service wasn't attentive or friendly, but for me, the food was the biggest problem. The others got steak frites, it looked good, cooked to order and with a Bernaise sauce. I am not picky and am generally happy with both menus and meals. Every once in awhile I wish I had an extra star to give. You know, reach up into the inky sky and grab one for those special places like LL Inn. I stumbled onto this place by pure coincidence. A couple on the street suggested late one evening and demanded - yes demanded I sit at the bar. What a stroke of luck! I ambled through the side entrance and down steep stairs to the sounds of conversation and laughter and of those smells of wonderful meals past and present. I was fortunate to be seated at the bar - the hostess checked with the chef - and I joined a bunch of regulars. I had no idea what I was in for. Really, no clue! Our bartender John is a wonderful host. He served me a drink, kept my water glass full, and made the menu easy to navigate. He recommended the specials, warm mushroom salad and the lamb stew - both exquisite! My dear readers I am at a loss to describe all the flavors swirling in my mouth from these magnificent dishes. And thank goodness for the delicious garlic infused bread with soft butter to soak up the sauces! Had to get every last drop. Desert? Seriously??!! With a hollow leg maybe. If D is your thing I suggest sharing and a salad and entree or come just for the dessert which is my plan. Now I only wish they serve breakfast... Enjoy! read more

I do not want to recommend this restaurant because it has rather limited seating and I don't want to make it more difficult to get a reservation. But I must be honest. The Languedoc is one of the most interesting restaurants on the island. Food is unique and in most cases excellent. We often have an entree. Their steak and fries is great and their lobster and fish are always very good. Last night my wife and I shared the nantucket born oysters, plump and of good size, and a cheese plate with the most glorious crusty honey and almonds, excellent. We wanted to eat lightly, my wife had steamed clams which were steamed and served in a very savory European-seasoned broth. I had the sweetbreads, not easily found in most restaurants but very well prepared in this bistro restaurant. Drinks including a very fine Chardonnay, were generous. Bill was under $200 including tip. In short, one of the most interesting and unique nantucket restaurants on Nantucket and one of our favorites with a very loyal customer base. read more

I've eaten here a few times on my travels to Nantucket. My family is a big fan of the restaurant. The location is charming and the staff are very friendly. I can only speak to the restaurant side, having never stayed at the Inn, but the food is delicious, however, I have a few suggestions. As a vegan, I found navigating this menu was rather confusing and challenging. There is an online menu, which has many more choices than in person dining. I called ahead and they suggested the pasta and polenta, but the pasta was being served with meat and the polenta with cream, the risotto was served with bacon. So to use, a pun, I was in a bit of a pickle! It would be nice if there were some simple pasta dishes sans meat, an option without cream, butter or cheese- many people use plant based options now. It would just be nice if there were more vegan and vegetarian options available to be more friendly and accommodating to the many people adopting this type of lifestyle these days. I do greatly appreciate the chef offering to make me a vegetarian dish. I loved the friendly and excellent service and delicious food. read more

We enjoyed every aspect of this quaint French bistro! Starters were lobster bisque and the cheese souffle. My husband gave the bisque a 7 of 10....lots of lobster, but wasn't as creamy as a typical lobster bisque. The souffle was light and fluffy, highly recommend. For entrees my husband had the duck confit with homemade linguine and I had the pan roasted lobster with soft polenta. Both were FABULOUS! We cannot say enough about the desserts!! One of my favorite restaurants on the island. If you want to be transported to an authentic bistro in Lyon, without the travel and pretentiousness, come to Languedoc. Teresa and Judy are waitresses sent from heaven who will truly take care of you. The setting is divine and the wine list is exquisite. Start with the foie appetizer, maybe the soft shell crabs if you're feeling risky and they're in season, and round up with the lobster. It's butter poached and fried in butter, served inside the tail with polenta. Real sick but also delicious. The escargot with cavatelli is also AMAZING as are the espresso martinis. The only negative was the surly, unwelcoming hostess. Highly recommended by Lyn our magical inn-keeper, we had a reservation at another restaurant, that happened to be closed for the season and called us to cancel. Make reservations, because this is a year-round restaurant because EVERYONE wants to eat there (and I think they do!). 3 floors of tables, first floor is bistro clothed, tight and loud with the tiniest of bars so tastefully put together. The next levels have a bit more elbow room, white table clothes and a more sophisticated vibe. BUT WHO CARES?! When they put out the food they do. Le Languedoc will charge you. For taking the most peasant of ingredients straight out of a chopped mystery basket and transforming them into magic. Escargot. Garlic-y, buttery little snails, sultrily tossed with hand made garganelli pasta, perfectly al dente. Music on a plate. Chicken livers. $18 for juicy, plump and beautifully sauteed chicken livers on a spinach salad. OH MY! Cheese souffle! with a sultry mournay sauce. A couple of bites and you are in Reims, at a bistro. With a lovely glass of wine. Crusty bread. Creamy butter! And service...? Temptress servers that make you want to eat EVERYTHING on the delectable menu! Our inn-keeper happened to waltz in too, and I lusted over her steak frites! 40 years and still going strong. One of the reasons I chose this restaurant is the 4 star Yelp reviews. Perhaps it's because the reviews are from last year, but I am sorry to say that I did not have a 4 star experience. The ambiance is cozy, seated upstairs, very quaint. The bread starter delicious - crunchy crust, soft insides with roasted garlic baked right in. Wish I could say the same for the rest of the meal. Charcuterie good, chicken liver mousse tasty, can't go wrong with imported meats. The escargots definitely not the classic garlic with parsley butter. My fault for not reading the menu carefully. Regardless, the escargots were not flavorful and the consistency a bit off. Hudson Valley Foie Gras tasty, but the grilled accompanying bread burnt and salty. Excited to try the signature pan roasted lobster - wish I could say it was good, the lobster under done and the flavor lacking. Basic asparagus preparation is to break off the tough ends and peel them if they are thick. The special salad sounded good with a champagne vinaigrette - unfortunately, the greens were overdressed. The braised littlenecks were good, not sandy and not over cooked. The meal started with a bang with the delicious roasted garlic bread, then quickly went down hill. The service needs some refining also. Customers should not have to hold up their plates in order for the next course to be placed. Plate juggling is one thing that should not happen in an expensive eatery. An overall disappointing experience when I had such high hopes of having a great meal. read more

Made this reservation over a week in advance. Was called 2 hours before my reservation stating my reservation was cancelled due to weather. 1. I had requested inside, so that should not have been an issue 2. The hostess I spoke to, Lindsey, was rude on the phone when I called back. I stated I had already requested inside etc and she basically wrote me off. If you know you are closing due to weather (it was raining for hours previously), give us more of a heads up. One of my family's favorite restaurants on the island, we always make sure to grab a reservation as soon as the ferry docks. I view it as a pillar for the community; it's been around for a long time and has a tradition of excellent service and food. I wouldn't characterize it as trendy or pushing the boundaries, but the menu offers a wide range of updated French inspired dishes using local ingredients -- that should appeal to everyone. I wouldn't recommend it for very large groups or families with young children, but it has the perfect atmosphere for a date or a more mature set of adults. It's also worth mentioning that different parts of the restaurant can lend a different atmosphere. The basement evokes a paris bistro with the bar and checkered tablecloths. The front of the first floor evokes a much more fine-dining atmosphere and has great views of the street. The back of the first floor feels exclusive and intimate. I've also been seated twice in the private room on the first floor that offers a family-style experience. With five or six people you get your own wooden dining table and a great spot to unwind. The food is consistently excellent. On my most recent trip I started out with sweetbreads with sauteed mushrooms, followed by the nantucket fluke, and finished with a berry crumble. Some of the other dishes at my table included the cheese souffle, lobster bisque, duck confit, and the pan-roasted lobster. Everything was a winner and I'm looking forward to my next visit. The wait staff is also one of the most experienced on the island and it really shows. My aunt couldn't remember exactly which salad she had enjoyed the last time, but the waitress knew it was the Bartlett Farms tomato salad. Like I said, we go here a lot. read more

There are restaurants on the beach with beautiful sunsets, restaurants where every course is a sensory experience and restaurants who have earned international awards. I had the pleasure of visiting "Le Languedoc." This restaurant has been around for 35 years - a rare feat on an island that sees lots of change. It is walking distance from the port and is located in a converted Nantucket townhouse. They are known for serving classic French dishes using the freshest of ingredients that not only come from Nantucket and New England but from around the world. The room in which I sat had a fine-dining, exclusive atmosphere with great views of the street. The clientele was an eclectic mix of locals, visitors and old-timers. For drinks, my friend ordered a Chivas. I ordered a Jameson. Indeed, it was a brown liquor kind of night. First, I ordered the rainwater braised little-necks. They were steamed and soaked nicely in a lovely garlic broth. Next, I ordered the roasted chicken. It came with mushrooms, lemon arancini and roasted figs. The figs gave the chicken a great sweetness. They were much better than the tired cranberry crunch that chefs typically use. My friend ordered the sautéed Nantucket fluke. It was perfectly seasoned and it came right from the docks... this is as fresh as it gets. Unfortunately, the waiter was kind of a nut job. He kept forgetting what was on the menu, he disappeared for a long time and he kept complaining about having to go up and down the stairs. He was much too young to have dementia or COPD. I am not a doctor, but something didn't add up. Le Languedoc is a wonderful restaurant for those seeking great meals in a cozy, intimate setting. It is a place to go for any special occasion. Maybe we lucked out, but my boyfriend and I had one of my best dining experiences ever on Nantucket at Le Languedoc (and I've been going since I was little). We made a reservation for the dining room for 9pm on a Thursday evening since that was the only time available. We showed up at 8pm just to check in, and they were able to seat us right away at a lovely table in the dining room. Our waitress was very helpful guiding us through the menu and we were generally delighted with the food. We had two glasses of prosseco and six oysters to start. The mignonette was very nice and the wine was amazing. I had the burata and local tomatoes to start which was very fresh and delicious. My boyfriend had the scallops over creamed corn, which was nice, although the scallops themselves were underwhelming - on the small side and slightly overcooked. We got their two classic entrees - the steak frites with bernaise sauce and truffle fries and the lobster. The steak frites was very well executed and the bernaise sauce was delicious, but the lobster was to DIE for! I declared it the number one best lobster dish I've ever eaten. The tail is cooked in the shell and the body cavity is cleaned out and filled with a creamy polenta, which was topped with the claw meat and additional tail meat (so you really get a ton of lobster) sauteed in a lovely, and not overwhelming, beurre blanc. I was really in heaven. We're definitely going to be dreaming about this meal and that lobster in particular for a while! We had a few other wines by the glass, but the one that stuck out the most was a very oakey, buttery california chardonnay that paired nicely with the rich lobster dish. We sat downstairs on a Sunday evening enjoying great service & excellent food. My wife best described the atmosphere as cozy & quaint. Here's the rundown on the food: - (A) Lettuce w/ vinegar vinegarette (this replaced the lobster bisque which didn't agree with us) - (B) Tuna & salmon tartare w/ foie was good, but I don't know if I'd order it again (probably would have gone softshell crab as an app if I had a do-over) - (A+) Alaskan salmon was exceptional (wife thought it was some of the best she's had) - glad we subbed in the fries b/c they were awesome. - (B-) Scallops dish was ok, but nothing I'd recommend I agree with other Yelpers recomendations of sitting downstairs and/or at the bar. One of my favorite restaurants on island. We had the little neck clams (veal demi glacé broth with asparagus, garlic, shallots... I asked for details it was that good), mopped up the broth with their delicious bread and butter, next we split the flute, with sides of BLT risotto and spinach, and finally finished with the creme brûlée. Precious, absurdly overpriced poorly prepared fancy food served in a frou-frou high end snobbish style. Maybe they had a fry cook in the kitchen instead of the chef? Wonderful restaurant. I would give it five stars, but the food was not as good as it has been over last three years of dining here. We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated within a half an hour by the owner, which was very nice. COVID 19 makes dining out a challenge, but this restaurant made it pleasant and easy. We were seated outside at one of their lovely patio tables, (best thing about COVID dining is all of the newly added outside seating), it was a pretty night and the lighting they have outside is very romantic. We ordered the Nantucket Fluke, and the Steak Frites, both were pretty good. The Fluke was melt in your mouth fresh, seasoned well but extremely dry. I don't get restaurants that don't serve a sauce, especially a fish dish, I feel like fish needs at least the option of having a sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly though, between that and the freshness, I could almost overlook the no sauce thing. My husband got the Steak Frites, when in France... they were good, but the steak was overcooked. A huge faux pas when you order it medium rare, and the fries were supposed to have truffle and there was only a tease of truffle oil. That was the saddest part of the meal. When we see truffle, we are all in. But, the service was friendly, the atmosphere was beautiful, and overall the food was good. We will give it another try, it's worth it. read more

The only good thing about the restaurant is the bread they serve before your meal. The food is definitely not worth the money. Lobster undercooked, escargots had strange flavor combinations and was chewy, foie gras was overly salted. The atmosphere is very nice, cozy and intimate, but that does not do much considering the food was not good and the service was substandard for restaurants of similar price range. Great Restaraunt. We sat downstairs in the more casual bistro. The menus is the same as the formal dining room upstairs. We've been wanting to come here for years and finally had a chance on this visit. The experience didn't disappoint. We had local steamed littlenecks to start which were in a savory wine herb broth speckled with crispy lardons. Nice! For my main course I ordered the special Lobster which was served "lazy man's" style released from the shell. It was bathed in a nice Lemmon beurre blanc. The lobster meat was tender and sweet. The food is not worth the money spent. The service was below average. They were not attentive at all. At La Languedoc, I only enjoyed the cozy feeling of the restaurant being in an old house and the bread served at the beginning of the meal. The lobster was undercooked and flavorless. The foie gras was served with overly salted and burnt bread which ruined the flavor. Escargot was chewy and had no flavor and was paired with a strange gnocchi and peas which did not taste very good. If I could give zero stars I would. The food might be great but we wouldn't know. Getting a reservation is like finding the lost city of Atlantis. Yesterday, we called at 10am like we were told after being promised that someone would be there to answer the phone.... Nope, we left a message instead. When we called back after 10 tries, we finally talked to someone. Rudely, they said "The bistro is fully booked and the best bet is to swing by at 10am tomorrow to make a reservation". So today, we took their advice and drove into town to make a reservation at 10am. No one was at the bistro but we did talk to the woman running the inn. She made a note to the reservation person about our interest. My daughters wanted to make sure we got a reservation so they swung by at 10:30am (right when they allegedly open). And once again, they were told that the reservation person wasn't in yet and there was nothing they could do to help us. We called at 12:30pm and finally talked to the reservation person with hopes that the message had been received and we would have the reservation for tonight. Nope... we were once again told that the bistro was full. We asked, "how do we get a reservation? This is impossible!" The chances that other people got reservations in the short window between our multiple visits is NONE. We received no explanation and were rudely told that other people got reservations before us. That would be virtually impossible! If I were running this business, the jerks in charge of reservations would be immediately fired. There is no excuse for being rude to a potential customer. We have been coming to Nantucket for 32 years and have influenced many other families to spend some of their summer in Nantucket. We do not recommend this headache to them or to anyone. read more

The menu offers a good selection of New American / French surf and turf options. All the dishes were well executed; the flavors were complex and the ingredients fresh. Oddly enough, they are also known for their hamburgers (which seemed a bit out of place considering the rest of the menu). The service was a bit awkward and slow at times but sincere and well intentioned. The decor was formal, though a bit cold / Spartan and dark. I would recommend eating downstairs for a little "warmer" atmosphere (maybe this is where they serve the hamburgers ...). I recommend the duck with truffles, spaetzle and fresh herbs (excellent) or the Copper River salmon (also very good). For dessert try the toffee, hot fudge and caramel sundae over homemade ice cream -- my friends classified this as "earth shattering" and worth coming to Nantucket for. We ate in the downstairs bistro, and the chopped salad, wonderful warm bread (from Chabaso Bakery in New Haven, surprisingly) and the oysters were the highlight. The burgers had a good flavor but were overdone. Our uninterested server disappeared after taking our order and was never seen again.
