We recently rehabbed our old bathroom and purchased a lot of tile and grout, etc at the Mt Prospect Century Tile store. We made MANY visits to the store to choose tile, get last minute supplies and extra tile, ask questions and so forth. The staff was always helpful and patient. If some product wasn't in stock, they were always able to get it from their warehouse by the next morning. When the project was completed we returned plenty of unused tile. The return process was very easy: they unload your car at the back door and you go around to the front to get reimbursed on your credit card. No hassle. Our bathroom project was an ordeal, but Century Tile made it easier. read more

On this cloudy Chicago morning, I sit at my desk with the Century Tile paperwork at my side, ready for the file. Today, thank heaven, the sun is not spotlighting my failed floor, which is noticeably higher than the adjacent living room floor, like somebody screwed up, and has a bubble about six inches in, as well as a slightly sunken and irregular area, both just at the threshold where the sun relentlessly reveals the defects every bright morning. And all day long, for that matter, but I try not to look. God knows I tried. After saving the money for a new floor for ages, I was resolved to practice every due diligence. I therefore examined well the proposal the salesman from the Rand Road Century Tile presented to me, which clearly stated that the existing floor would be removed and disposed of by the company, as we had discussed. That was important to me for practical, not cosmetic, reasons. My Chicago garden apartment has everything low, including the counter-top over my dishwasher. There was precious little clearance, and I was very, very, very concerned the dishwasher would come out easily in case of need, as it had twice before when the below-ground outside wall had been breached by rats and the exterminator needed access to that wall. I had told the salesman this, as well as their installation expert, Mike, who had assured me on his subsequent visit that there would be no reason to worry on that score. He had also assured me, with a look of professional horror, that the floor once laid would absolutely, certainly be 'rolled.' (I'd done a little homework on the tricky installation of sheet vinyl and found that rolling was essential.) But the installers didn't remove the existing flooring as specified by the proposal, and simply laid the vinyl over the top of the old tile, and they didn't use a roller but instead brushed a two-by-four with a glued piece of carpeting over the top. I had protested at the time, but they politely but firmly ignored me, saying Mike had given them their instructions. They were happily done in less than three hours and on their way. And so for my beautiful new floor I was left instead with the bubble and sunken area at the threshold, glowing in every sunrise, and a nagging worry about the dishwasher removal in case of need, all in violation of the proposal I'd been given, or, in the case of the rolling, the verbal assurance Mike had given me. I protested after the fact, of course, since the work came with a'no-questions lifetime guarantee,' and I am writing here to tell you, don't believe it, or rather, be prepared to pony up for legal representation to enforce it. A proposal from Century Tile is worthless. Mike and subsequently other office personnel informed me that the work order following the proposal is what actually rules the agreement (although this is contrary to every other professional proposal you will ever receive), and my work order had clearly said they would 'skim' the floor, as if the client would surely know that contradicted the formal proposal that said the existing flooring would be removed. Which I hadn't realized. And how would I? What, after all, is 'skim'? And now removing the spoiled floor was out of the question, apparently. Mike eventually came out (an hour late and on his phone), pried up the vinyl at the threshold, did some scraping of the rough sunken area, laid down more glue, ignored the bubble further into the room, took a picture, and left. And I was glad. We elderly must cut our losses.The very sight of him provoked chest pain. So I am posting this review of Century Tile in Mount Prospect to say to the unwary senior citizen or single woman, don't go there, or if you do, make sure the work order you receive is in word-for-word compliance with the original proposal, because if they are not, you will pay the same money but you will be up the creek, and Mike will tell you so with a sneer. My former boyfriend and I were shopping around for floor and shower tile for his small bathroom renovation and stopped at Century Tile. We probably got 10 feet into the showroom when we were greeted by an associate who asked us what we were looking for and pointed us in the right direction. He told us that if we had any questions after looking around, we could go back to him. So, we browsed around and found some tile that we wanted. It was actually nicer looking and cheaper than a wholesale showroom we had visited earlier that day. We sought out the original associate who greeted us (that was a little bit of a hassle), but when we got him to help us, he got our order very quickly. My ex-bf brought measurements of our bathroom, and he told us how much tile, border tile, trim tile (which we didn't even think of), mortar, and colored grout we'd need. The original cost ended up being about $1,800 for his very small bathroom. They ordered the tile for us, and it only took a few days to get it in (fabulous). During the renovation we were short one type of tile, so my ex contacted Century Tile. They were able to locate extras in Itasca, so he was able to drive out and pick up the needed tile the very next day. It was nice that we didn't have to postpone the renovation. After the renovation, and ended up with LOTS of extra tile and a whole extra bag of mortar. Thankfully they have a 30-day return policy, so we got $270 back on the extras. However, when my ex returned the tile, he was disappointed by the customer service (or lack thereof). Apparently the elderly associate answered his personal cell phone and had a personal conversation during the return. My ex and I both have work(ed) retail for 10+ years, and from our standpoint, that is very unprofessional. Overall plusses: + The price is pretty reasonable + They have a huge selection and great displays + Their greeting skills were nice and not overbearing. Ordered over $1000 worth of tile and grout and went over the measurements with the helpful sales associate prior to placing the order. Ended up with one extra box of tile and on the receipt it says 30 day return for unopened box. Century Tile would not take back the one box and claimed it to be a special order and was never told by the sales associate when placing the order it could not be returned. After spending this kind of money and spent even more on several other tile projects, this is disappointing. Took the business for the rest of the project elsewhere and ended up buying over $400 worth of cement and materials to complete the project from the Tile Shop next door. I hope the one box refused to be returned was worth the loss of a customer. read more

One guy "helping" another customer was unbelievably rude. Everyone asking a question is an idiot. They're clearly order-takers and commission-collectors. Don't ask for anything, because you ain't gonna get it. The guy "helping" me was nice, but not helpful at all. Just followed me around and didn't tell me what anything was, I think he just didn't even know. I found this to be very disappointing because I told him I wanted PORCELAIN, not Ceramic or natural stone. A complete waste of my time. To top it off, I found the exact same tile at Hawkinson significantly cheaper. (i.e. the decorative trim I liked at Century was $3.50/foot cheaper.) AND I dealt with a far nicer staff. read more

The staff at this location are very unhelpful. I walked in and they were all sitting at their desks talking and not one of them acknowledged me walking in. I walked around for about 15 minutes looking for the tile I needed, mind you I'm the only one there. I walked back over to all of them and stood there on front of them and they all looked at me saying nothing. After 5 awkward seconds I asked can I get some help? One of them said yeah what do you need. I ordered the tile through him and the whole time he made it seem like I was inconveniencing him. When I came back to pick up the tile the same thing happened, but in less time as I was not the only person in the store this time. I said excuse me to one person who looked at me and then walked away. Finally what seemed to be a manager said someone will be with you shortly. Again the guy who helped me made me feel like I was inconveniencing him about picking up my order. Needless to say I discourage others from this location or if you decide to go here, don't expect any good help in what you need. read more

The worst!!!!!!! Run, don't walk, away from this place. Walked in to look at flooring, sales guy just yells across the store to "help." Told him that I need to look at things they have in stock. "No, what you want to do is match the color first." Guided me to the $4 / square foot section (nearly double what I was Looking at). Then two minutes later, again yelling across the store, "Hey let me see your sample." Are you talking to me? The guy proceeds to hold the sample up to the on stock section...I could have done that and was doing that before you interrupted, guy. Don't butt in to "help" when you are not adding valuable information, details or tips. My description here doesn't do justice to the rude approach of the sales guy. Recently we updated our kitchen. After the contractor had left I decided I wanted to put tile in a small area about 1 1/2" wide where I was originally not going to put tile. I had scraps that would fit exactly, I knew this was a project I could do. I only needed to have one piece of bullnose cut to complete the project. I was on a mission to find someone who would cut one tile for me. My first stop was Home Depot, they couldn't help but suggest Century Tile. I called Century Tile in Mt Prospect and spoke with Allen. Allen said they would be able to do that as long as it wan't a bunch of cuts. Allen cut the tile and my project is complete. Later this year I will be updating a bath, and I know exactly where I will be going for my tile. It's nice to feel appreciated as a customer when someone does something nice to help someone else. Hans Hansel was very helpful to us in finding what would work best for our bathroom remodel. In today's market there is such a huge selection it's overwhelming to say the least. I was at my wit's end until I met Daniella Johnson, Designer at Century Tile in Mount Prospect. She listened to my needs, looked at pictures of the space and then visualize what tile, boarder and flooring should be put together. The flooring tile she picked out I would have never considered but she totally nailed it. After all of the materials were taken care I had begun to get teared up. I couldn't believe my search for tiles was finally over. I had been looking to coordinate tiles for many weeks. Going to several different stores to only return the items. We made several trips to Century Tile in Mount Prospect for our small project. Tim and Andrew were very helpful and patient with us. We took home several samples on each visit and changed the direction of our project as we evolved our thinking on other aspects of the remodel. We finally decided on the tiles we wanted and it was ordered and promptly delivered from the warehouse in one day. I measured and marked the tiles needing cuts and they cut the 18 inch tiles for me. Even when I called even if our salesperson was not working that day, the other staff were pleasant and helpful. I did not experience what the other recent reviewers experienced. I found that the Tile Shop in Schaumburg had a better selection and better service in general. Update 7/16/2014 Purchased some dal tile subway tile for these guys. This is probably one of the most commonly used tiles on the market - I am talking white subway tile..In any event the contractor over estimated on the order. Not that big of a deal - figured I would return the extra (a couple of full boxes). However, the invoice indicates that my tile was a specail order...my fault for not reading it...but, a very distasteful business practice none the less. I would not suggest this shop to anyone. This place is operating as if we live in the 1950's. Take your business elsewhere or be very careful during the ordering process. read more

I called them looking for a product. I got a very curt reply, "nah, we don't have it" Twice I was told this. The guy never told me they could get it from their distribution center in Itasca. I only learned this when I drove a long distance, in construction traffic, to what I now know is their distribution center. They had the product in stock, and assured me it could have been to the Mt. Prospect store in one day. The store manager could have cared less. "what do you want me to do about it?" was his reply. When I asked for the name of the company president, he gave me a wrong name and then called the headquarters to head off any complaint from me. Never ever do business here. read more

95% of the salesmen in this store are arrogant and rude. I would NOT recommend dealing with them - it's extremely frustrating. I placed my order. I called to confirm it was all there before I sent my contractor over to pick it up. It was not. Each time I've called or stopped in, if I do not talk directly to the salesman that I purchased from, nobody else wants to talk to you because they are OBVIOUSLY working on commission. I recently purchased some tile at the Mt. Prospect store. My salesman, Brad, was extremely helpful and spent a lot of time helping me pick out tile for my bathroom, which turned out beautifully thanks to his assistance. Unfortunately, my good experience was ruined by Dennis who also works at this store. When I went to the store to purchase some grout, Brad was not working so Dennis was the salesman that rung up the transaction. I found him to be extremely abrasive and condescending towards me. Since I was only buying grout, I brushed it off. A few days later, I went back to the store to return some tile and encountered Dennis again. I told him that I was there to see Brad. It was another 20 minutes before Brad started working so I told Dennis I would wait. Dennis proceeded to start harassing me about returning the tile telling me that "Brad should have known better" than to tell me that I could return the tile. I explained to Dennis that I was there to see Brad but he continued to harass me about this transaction for the entire 20 minutes. In all of my years as a consumer, I've never encountered this type of abhorrent behavior from a sales person. I am also appalled that Century Tile would allow this type of behavior by their sales people. Home Depot and Menards are both within a mile of this store and I have another bathroom that requires some remodeling. While Brad should be commended for the service that he provided, unfortunately, because I cannot risk encountering Dennis again, my next tile purchase and any further floor related purchases will be made at one of these two stores. At least when I go to Home Depot and Menards, I don't get harassed by the sales people. By the way, I should mention that I'm a female. I hope that didn't have anything to do with the treatment that I received. read more

Be savvy! I hired the Century recommended installer to install a wood laminate floor. First, they overestimated materials: ordered 5 pieces of threshold when 3 would have adequately done the job. Second, the flooring - about 10% more. I let the installation crew know I had extras and expected them to remain unopen. The worst part was a faux pas in the layout. Rather than setting a plumb line down the hallway where I had the greatest site line, they began at one corner 'so when they got to the hallway, there was a 1/2" variance in an 8ft span--makes you feel like your drunk when you walk down the hallway. A real pro knows to set plumb to create visual alignment (I know that no building is built perfectly perpendicular). this would have pushed the error to the wall where the furniture hides it anyway. so -- check out the installer first; verify the estimates without being too anal--i realize they need some leeway.you don't have to underwrite the materials list on their side jobs. read more

Went on a Wednesday. It did not appear busy. There was a woman (designer? ) helping another. A couple of guys chatting at the desk. I was not acknowledged. At first I though ok, I can get a chance to scope out materials myself. I found something and went to the main desk and waited...waited...A man walked in and got helped immediately. For grout. I wanted to purchase A LOT of tiles! How about an "I'll be with you in a moment?" Too bad, because we had spent a lot of money on floor tile their some years earlier. I am so happy to let people know how helpful the staff has been at Century Tile. Primarily, I have been lucky enough to meet with their amazing designer, Daniella. She has met with me several times until I finally settled on tile I liked. She helped design a plan and even went so far to draw out the details. Her patience is astounding! I have been so frustrated and unable to find tile I want for my bathroom. Other places offered little help. She has been my saving grace. Their salesman, Alex has also been very helpful in pulling tiles and giving us the sales support to make the entire process as painless as possible. I want to call out Jessica for providing excellent service. I called looking for a specific tile I had seen on display at Ikea. While they did have it, it was going to take time to get in (more than I wanted to wait). She showed me what looked to be the exact same tile, from another vendor, that was half the cost...and in stock at another store. She had it in store two days later, ready for my contractor to grab and install in time to complete the project. I'll be going back for my next tile, and probably flooring, projects. read more

I took my son to a free class on tiling given by Pete the Pro and I want to post positive feedback on several things. First off, Pete is very obviously a seasoned-veteran (literally) and his working knowledge of his craft was very obvious throughout the class. He also gave us tips on things that other (not-so-seasoned) people might miss, delivered in a very professional manner. He had women, a child and men in the class and he did a fantastic job of engaging all of us. He was not condescending, nor did he sound like a walking sales pitch. If we ever need contract work done on our house, I will be reaching out to Pete first. The Mt. Prospect store were also very good at hosting the class and there was no pressure to purchase anything. There were solid reasons to purchase supplies/mats from them, but for completely logical/practically reasons. Thumbs up!! read more

I have been going back and forth between 3 tile places. Tile shop , Century Tile and Floor Decor and More. I received basically zero customer service at FD&M. Cheap prices but not great selection or customer service. Tile shop was very pricey and the customer service was basically a pretty pushy sales person. Then there is Century Tile, wow. What a difference. I had a sales person Dave help me. He was so nice, patient , knowledgeable and went above and beyond to give me exceptional service. Not once was he pushy. Just informative and helpful. Then he told me about their in house designer Daniella . I met with her as well. Not only was she fantastic with ideas she was also so very kind, patient and helpful. They both made me feel like they I was the only customer in the store ( of course I wasn't ) I had such a wonderful experience. At first I wasn't finding the tile I wanted at that location so Dave sent me to a wholesaler that they use. But in the end with the help of both Dave and Daniella I ended up choosing a tile right from their showroom. I will never waste my time going to any other tile store again . Called this location today and spoke with a woman on the phone and asked her if they would be able to cut a few floor tiles that we had purchased in the past. She said that they would definitely do that for a small charge per each cut tile. We brought them to the front desk and were helped by Andrew who took the tiles to the back and cut them exactly to the size that we wanted. When he brought the tiles back to us he told us that there would be no charge. Century Tile treated us with respect and went above and beyond their service. We have purchased tile from them in the past and have always been satisfied. It is good to know that there are places like this that treat a customer with great service. If you have any future tile needs, I would definitely recommend this place for good quality and the low prices. Go see Andrew for great customer service. read more

After visiting several tile shops and meeting with numerous self-proclaimed "designers," I stumbled across Daniella and Century Tile. Unlike other tile shops, it's a relaxing experience and Daniella guides you into finding exactly what you're looking for (or what you might like!) She is creative in her thinking and can instantly conjure up several design plans for whatever space you choose. Unlike other designers, she does not force her design style on you, but she has the flexibility to work with several design styles. She can find you exactly what you're looking for and she can also challenge your design style by showing you options you never would have thought of. Daniella helped me design 4 bathrooms, and I'll be back for her help in designing my kitchen. While the selection at Century Tile leans more towards the traditional, I've found that most recently they've started adding more up-to-date and modern selections. There's plenty to choose from. Pricing is comparable to other tile shops I've visited. Sales service however, is spot on. Dave (general manager) is efficient and responsive and demonstrates excellent people skills. I'd give them 5 starts if their selection were larger, but I think they will soon be there. read more

IF YOU LIKE BEING CHARGED AN ARM & A LEG, Century Tile is the perfect place. I had to pick Century Tile since they carry the tile that I was trying to match. I wanted to do my stair's landing (49 sq. ft), I was first quoted $750... then after measurement... $950. I thought that since it was a package (demo, underlayment, baseboard & garbage haul), maybe I should go ahead. So, 3 weeks had to pass until the tile finally came. Then comes the installation day, the installer start demoing and then finds out that he needs to put in 1/4 inch of plywood as additional underlayment for.....6$/ sq ft. soo it's another 200$ or so. I asked if there were any other way to avoid the cost. So the installer said that the floor is going to be a bit shallow , so I said it's fine just go ahead without the extra. Then he continues to find another reason to add the extra underlayment & says that for him to tile it needs 5/8 in thickness. So then, I asked if we can continue without the additional cost but he insist that it had to be done in such way. Finally, left with no choice, I said yes. Then the installer disappears for 3 hrs. to get plywood. Long story short it took 2 days with lengthy lunch to install tile on a very tiny space. I ask the sales rep as to why I was being charge extra, since underlayment was part of the package? I was first told that I shouldn't be since it was a part of it. The day after the installation was complete, the installer came back unannounced saying that he missed something & was asking about the extra charge. I replied to ask the sales rep since I clarified that it was part of the cost. So a few days after, I got a call saying that I owe 200 more. SO FOR A SMALL 49 SQ FT, I HAD TO COUGH UP 1150+ grout + stair nose. And yeah, no one even came to haul the garbage that was left in my lawn. read more

Overall the carpet we had installed looks great, install went quick. The only thing that was a slight problem/confusion was the actual install date. We were told our carpet was in and would be installed on Wednesday before Thanksgiving we were called the night before and were told they can't find the carpet and might be stuck on a truck somewhere and they couldn't find it. We weren't in need of having it installed for the holiday so to us it wasn't to big a deal. It's just being told one thing and then changing last minute, the salesman was very apologetic and rescheduled for that Saturday which went fairly well. The installer was confused as the date change as well. Last thing is they have a "to do" list which they email to you, one of the things it states is to close doors and seal all vents. Problem is the installers were wondering why we did that as the heat needs to be on to stretch the carpet or it will buckle later on. I showed him the email list we received and he just shook his head. Minor things but so far the carpet looks great and will use them again in the future. We also bought tile from there in the past but I installed it myself. read more
