I canceled my service on 9/24 and because I'm two days into their billing cycle they're still trying to charge me the full month of internet for $75 literally only having two days of internet. Apparently, they don't prorate for the services used and the service rep quoted me some email they sent out back in 2019. Literally nowhere on my cancellation email did it specify any of that nor was I given information that this was going to happen. Fiber is now being offered as an option in our area but we decided not to upgrade as we are moving in the coming months. If you like staying on hold for 30 minutes before you get to talk to somebody, this is your company ! This is 2023 you don't leave your customers on hold for a half hour you ask them what their phone number is and that you will call them back. After spending an hour with the technician on the phone, he suggested that I should turn my modem off for two hours at which time I was to call back if it doesn't work. I suggested that he call me back after 2 1/2 hours to see if it's still working. "we can't do that.", you have to wait in line for another 30 minutes to talk to another moron. I told the technician I am had seen this problem before and it required a service technician at the house. I said "I want a service technician". He mentioned something about paying for a service call and commenced to trying to solve the problem. Then we lost connection. They had the nerve to send me an email asking how our service was and was the problem fixed. I filled out the form explaining that no it wasn't fixed, I didn't appreciate the 30 minute holds, I expect a call back when the connection is lost, they had my phone number, and I want to see a service technician. So this company knows that I have a service with them, they have all my information, they know that I have a problem, that I've been without their service for three days and yet there's no phone call back to me, they want me to wait another half hour, to talk to somebody about the problem. This is the third go around with this company in the last year and every time it's the same, no respect. read more

CenturyLink is great, until you need to talk to customer service. Half the time when I call I can't get the automated to recognize my phone number but then I'll hang up and call back and it magically works. I was on hold for over an hour today and it kept saying to go online to chat, except that was down too. They don't communicate well even within their life own company. I had to call at least three times a day for a week to get anything done and no one ever knew what I was talking about and spend 10-15 minutes calling around to figure out what my problem was and the requirements to fix it. I don't understand why they don't have a system to keep notes in? Their self help services suck. I keep trying to get my account number via their link but it never sends me an email so they don't think I have an account, but I get charged and they find me fine when I call. I also requested a return label and they still haven't sent it. I'm so frustrated with this company. I wouldn't even use them if the other option in town didn't have data caps. read more

I come from a different area and the cable service at home is so much more efficient. Just in trying to find the account, they can't even find it when you give them the physical address. Their reps do not seem to have additional customer service scripts for polite responses, they just don't say anything! I never thought I would want to talk to someone overseas who may have a strong accent but willing to help. I have called tech support 3 times to help with my weak signal and the call keeps getting dropped. This is my 3rd day trying to do this! I have zoom meetings & business to run. Shouldn't have to goto Starbucks to run my business. I cannot wait to go back home and have working internet. ***The Bad Service*** April 4th I called to get my service stopped at my old address and started at my new address. All they had to do was turn on service for the new address since the equipment was left there by the previous resident. Unfortunately they failed to process closing my old account resulting in me being charged for service. I didn't think anything of it as the price was the same. Fast forward about a month and a half later I'm getting double charged. I look at my account and find they failed to close the old account. So I call them up on a Friday afternoon. I'm on the phone waiting to talk to anyone for over an hour and then they closed. Since they must have been so busy I called again on Monday around 12. The first representative was able to get the old account closed so I wouldn't be charged going forward. Problem one solved. Now onto problem number two. I was charged for service when I shouldn't have. Since it was a prepaid service you have to pay them and then they give you internet service. Unlike the traditional internet accounts where you use the service and then pay after using it. Well I then spend the next 2 hours getting transferred from one department to another and nobody accepting responsibility or being able to help. With all of that I decide to hop online and chat with a representative who then tells me that they are already processing a refund for me. Nobody on the phone told me this. So here I am over 2 hours later, still on hold, chatting online with a service representative and losing my patience. Now how would you have fixed this? Have the representative I first worked with about getting this taken care of actually doing their job and shutting off / closing the old account. ***The Good Side*** Now all of this aside they have decent internet service at a low price. So as long as you don't have to call in for help you'll be fine. I'd recommend going online with someone on chat unless you have to disconnect service. I would give zero stars if possible. First of all the store location doesn't exist. It's still listed on maps as open, and there's still a sign for it at the location. But it is not there. Second of all, this is the worst customer service I have ever received. Absolutely incompetent people working in all areas of hard-to-navigate phone and online support. Our service was supposed to be installed days ago. The employee entered our address incorrectly. After we tried to correct this, they tried to say they wouldn't install our service for a MONTH. After navigating through layers of customer service people on the phone, they agreed to install it the following Monday. Still bad, but better. Now, they are less than no help with retrieving our account information or giving us any update on progress for our installation. When signing up for Century Link, we were promised over and over that we'd be provided with high speed Fiber internet. This did not happen. And we were not giving an explanation as to why they installed the wrong one, nor were we given a solution. Eventually we gave up on speaking with these people snd suffer through slow internet. Century Link would get zero stars from me if it could. I input our new address in Caldwell for a quote on their site and they scheduled an install date. This was weeks ago before our escrow on the new address closed. The tech never showed up and apparently they decided to not show up for work that day. No big deal, it's not like I sat around from 9 to 5 waiting for a no show and nothing better to do. I attempted to call and speak with someone but I think their phone system is designed to keep you in a loop and to never speak to anyone. If you do get on hold, you are on hold for about a minute before they hang up on you. So I used online chat and mid scheduling the next appointment, the chat crashed. I attempted chat again the next day and was told that they actually didn't service my neighborhood in Caldwell. Someone else did even though their website said that they (century link) did. I originally signed up weeks ago and the new internet provider can't get a tech out for about another 2 weeks for install. Would have been nice to know they didn't actually service my area from the start instead of jerking me around and wasting my time. I need internet as I work from home. This provider is a dumpster fire. Avoid them at all costs. They are awful and terrible. After experiencing an outage I struggled to get any assistance. Finally after nearly a week of chats and phonecalls to try and debug the issue, CenturyLink agreed to send out a tech...the appointment time was narrowed down to sometime between 8:00-16:30. I called a competitor and they could make it out the same day for new service install and could provide an appointment time within a two hour window. Their tech showed up right at the scheduled time and was great to work with. CenturyLink's tech showed up ~15:00 and was rather rude. Thankfully his service was no longer needed. I did give an extra start for the customer service rep who helped me close the account. She was extremely polite and helpful even though the account was closing. I just wish the rest of the team followed her lead. Removing a star as I continue to receive bills from this company months after closing my account. read more

CenturyLink was good about a year ago. Now they have bad service. I had cancelled my service when I moved and it didnt cancel which racked me up a bill of about $300. After I moved, I got them again (only because they were the only ones who offered fiber optic internet). The technician came out and installed it and it was good for a bit but then it started having issues. It was either very slow or it wouldnt work at all. I contacted their customer support and all they did was reset my wifi name and password and say its working again when it still was having the same issues. I told them it wasnt fixed and they said it was a bandwidth issue and I needed to purchase a better plan. 1. I already had the best plan they had available and 2. I had one PC connected to the network via ethernet and it wouldnt even load Google. When I tried to bring this up to them, I was ghosted. They refused to respond. Im a technician, I know how this stuff works and if I had the access that their technicians do I would be able to fix the issue but, they were more focused on trying to milk more money out of me then actually fixing the issue. Eventually after eight hours of trying to talk to support and get the issue fixed I replaced their router with one I purchased and it was working again (after doing all of the setup myself). It was working good for a bit then it was having the same issues again which means its on their end. I replaced it with yet another router and I'm still having issues. The only reason I have not canceled is because I'm waiting for Google Fiber. In summary, 1. Their technicians are not properly trained. 2. The routers they provide are unsecure and have known issues. and 3. They just dont know what they are doing. I had a 90yo veteran friend that lives across town call me over to his home for the exact same issue and I fixed it by replacing the router. They did the same thing to him, reset the wifi name and password on his router and try to get him to pay more for a different plan. Don't use CenturyLink. read more

They are such a bogus provider. Our internet has always been shotty with them and they are less than helpful, when they do come out they do a bandaid fix because they don't really want to deal with the issue nor be on the clock. We bought what we thought was a new modem from them, had a ton of issues and after being on the phone with several reps we finally figured out they sent us an OLD modem and that's why our internet wasn't working well. And even after we got that 'new' modem, months later we're facing the same issues with terrible internet connection. We suggested if they moved it, it may be a little bit better, they're response 'sure, but that will cost you $99 to move it'. Excuse me? that is going to cost ME money to fix problems with your service?? If it were just a month of issues, whatever but this has been a year of issues. You should get your best guy out here and FIX IT, without making the customer pay more to just receive what they've paid for all along. They're sneaky with their renewals, don't really draw attention to your contract 'expiring' then they DOUBLE the charge of your crappy internet. When you go to argue, they apply a credit, no refunds...When in reality you'd love to take your business elsewhere but you get stuck with that stupid credit. Their customer service reps have a lot of attitude when you talk to them as well which is pretty pathetic and shameful for a large corporation like Centurylink. Customer support AND services are as bad as it gets. Three weeks ago, took off work for a for repair because, after many months and many phone calls, service was still unacceptable. Tech called the day before to say he would be there and again one hour prior but never arrived. No call. Ever...not even to re-schedule. Today, different city new service scheduled. Modem arrived, tech was outside. I set up the modem and service worked great...for 5 minutes (literally) then NO service at all. After the usual hours on the phone, unplug modem, reset etc. (you know the drill) I was disconnected. Called again, same hoops then I was told that a tech needed to come back on another day. ANOTHER missed day of work. I told him to cancel. I was transferred to the "cancelation department" and, after 15 minutes on hold, disconnected. Now, I'm on hold again, after two transfers...timer is at 30 minutes... I have a LONG history of bad service with CenturyLink. Well beyond my story above. If I could give them negative stars I would. I switched from Sparklight to Century link last month. Unfortunately, when they set up our system, they forgot to set up 2.4 ghz so my aura frames don't work. I've tried fixing this through customer service for the past month without any success. It is IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone locally to get help. Everyone I've called is obviously having trouble understanding me or the technical issue I'm talking about. I had one representative tell me that I couldn't get 2.4 ghz because I only had 1 ghz service. WRONG. 1 ghz doesn't exist. The representatives don't follow through, don't call me back when they say they will, insist on asking me the same questions over and over again every time I call. I've asked for a technician to come out to my house and told I had to pay $100 to get them there. I said fine, I would pay. Then was told they couldn't send anyone until they "troubleshoot" the problem (again). Ugh! The actual performance of services is great once you can manage to set up an account & get it going but working with their customer service and billing is an absolute nightmare. An open letter to CenturyLink. Dear CenturyLink, I'm not sure when I first started to completely hate you, but I can recall the moment of my first stirrings of frustration. It was during the first or second month of our unfortunate time with you. Our internet wasn't working, and I wasn't sure if it was just our apartment or a wider outage. We weren't able to finish our movie on Netflix, so I called your customer service line for the first time. (I was so innocent then!) The gentleman who answered my call asked how he could help (or was it torment?) me, I replied that my internet was out and wanted to know if it was just our apartment or some larger problem. He explained that he needed my account number to help me. I explained that I didn't know what my account number was. He told that I could find my account number on my billing statement that came in the mail. I informed him that I was encouraged to use paperless billing, and therefore had not received any mail. I asked him if I could just tell him where I lived so that he could tell me if there was a wide outage. He told me he needed my account number first... This interaction somehow lasted 90 minutes, and yes, there was a larger outage. The next time you rubbed me the wrong way, my bill was raised from $30/month to $45/month. ($15 equals three pizzas for a college student.) I called in again, with my handy-dandy account number this time. You told me that the $30 price was a promotional price and that now I would pay $45/month. I informed you that it wasn't clear from the sign up process that the first price was a promotion. You told me that I should have read the contract more closely, and you were right. Fast forward to a year later and things were peaceful between us. You provided me internet service, and I paid you more money than I thought I would have to. That changed when I turned my autopay off for a day, for a reason I can't completely remember. I turned it back on, and all seemed well. That changed when I was billed for over $60 the next month. I called you, and you told me that by turning autopay off, I had ended my special pricing and now would be paying $60/month. Thankfully, I'm not much of a pushover, and beat you on that one, mostly because I recorded our conversations and caught you in a few lies. Now, we've moved to Boise, and because of your confusingly strong grip on the Idaho market, our new apartment requires us to use you... again. I started the process to transfer our internet service. You told me it would take you seven days from our move in day to have our internet working. So, for the past week my wife and I have roamed Boise like urban gypsies, searching for havens of free WiFi access to perform our labors. Today was the seventh day, and the empowering presence of a wireless network did not grace our home. I called you at 10:30pm to get to the bottom of the problem. You will, supposedly, be here at some point between 9 and 1 tomorrow to fix the problem. It's funny because my wife who cannot do homework without the internet must spend four hours in an internetless place tomorrow morning. I left CableOne to go to CenturyLink a few months back, that was a mistake. Since then I have probably spent 40 hours on the phone and chat trying to get my bill correct. They purposely try to defeat you by sending you to phone trees, incompetent offshore call centers or local places with wobbly hours and requiring you to go up multiple layers of supervision to get anything done. In my fourth and final chat with them today, it can be clearly seen they are either incompetent or intentionally ignorant. For example three times I referenced the case # from previous calls yet they never seemed to look that up and avoided direct questions about it. They claim there is no late charge for TV but once I pointed out it is on the bill they immediately discount it. They appear to not know what phone line is active when. etc. They gave me an $18 credit after successfully cancelling my services, what does that tell you? I concur with all the negative reviews. This company is atrocious. They abuse customers. I called to connect new service. It was set up for 3/19 for a 4 hour window but the tech did not show up and no apology for the no show. I reschedule it for 3/31 but this time I was given a 8 hour window as a courtesy for failing to show up on 3/19. Yet, I waited another day only for the tech not to show up.
