For landline phone service they SUCK my phone was dead for 27 days no communication from them they are horrible to deal with

The internet is EXTREMELY slow. Their DSL connection takes hours to download a 4gb file. The top speeds they offer are about as good as a broadband connection in 2003. Upload speeds are even more pathetic with a less that 1mbps speed. There is nothing they are going to do about the connection because they refuse to switch away from DSL. The LTE speeds on your cellphone are faster than these speeds. DO NOT use Centurylink, use a local provider, cell service, or satellite. read more

I just moved into a mew house. The equipment was left at my door to self install. I tried many times snd got no service. A half hour phone call to tech support resulted in my being told service was out in my area. I would receive a text or phone call when it was restored. Receiving neither, I called 2 days later, held for half an hour and was disconnected. Calling again, I waited for another half hour and received an appointment. This is one of the reasons that monopolies are bad for consumers. Changing to Wave, hopefully better. read more

Worst internet experience I've ever had. Less than 1mbps connection that goes out half the time. Paid ridiculous fees and costs to get it up to 10 mbps, and they lied about that too. Set a date far into the future to upgrade the speed, then sent an email delaying it again. Then finally another email saying they don't know when they'll be able to upgrade it. Con-artists. No matter where you are in Oregon...Century Link sucks....it is one big monopoly for landline service and that's all you can get in Oregon. At least when I had Bell South (the first landline monopoly service in the country) I had NO COMPLAINTS about service or billing! This JUST SUCKS! We are embroiled in another problem w/ CenturyLink and will continue to file complaints w/ the FCC over our on-going internet interruptions and inability to get our desktop answering machine to work due to CenturyLink interrupting service telling people who are calling us to type the number they are calling to leave a message. WTF? GRRRR We just spent 30 minutes trying to talk w/ a rep on the phone. We believe it was Artificial Intelligence (not a real person) on the other end of the phone. The voice would talk over us, not allow us to speak w/ a SUPERVISOR and repeated the same thing over and over again. THIS IS FRIGHTENING! We are going to file a lawsuit in Small Claims Court to get immediate remedy on our bill and service. I highly suggest others do the same if you have charges/services you didn't approve of. Why can't we give zero stars? I didn't learn from my previous error this summer when I paid my bill via their website and they insisted they didn't get my payment. (It was never presented to my bank). That took too much time to get fees waived and issue resolved. Inadvertently, I paid my Sept bill via their worthless website instead of through my bank online bill-pay like I usually do. The charges never went through my bank- I called and confirmed that. It took over an hour, a chat and 2 calls to get the issue (maybe) resolved. All this while I am supposed to be at work. So they charged me a $30 fee and said the bank is charging it not them- my bank says NOPE- never happened. First call I was told my bank needs to fix it. The bank says there is nothing to fix since they never received any payment request. Then I tried chat with a rude bIt$( that refused to listen to me, said she would not reverse charges and there is no supervisor available. So I called back and this time the rep said, "There is an ongoing issue with multiple banks that refuse to process payments and hold onto your money so that they can keep the interest on your money- this is thousands of dollars per day. They do this because we are constantly contacting them for our payments." I am not buying this explanation and I HIGHLY suspect there will be a class action lawsuit because how many people are paying these erroneous fees? Supposedly my account will be credited the $30 fee by mid Oct. We will see... Sadly most people that are keeping landlines are the elderly (IE: my mom) and they usually do not advocate for themselves. Yes, I will follow up with the FCC. read more

ZERO STARS. My internet, once turned on, worked. The calls to get the service and to cancel took over an HOUR and I was transferred to multiple departments. I live in a small rural town with literally NO other options, which is why I went through the BS of starting service anyway. Also- when they say the technician will be there from 9-5, look for them before 9 or after 5. Mine came at 8:00 am. To cancel, after an hour on the phone for someone to tell me they don't offer service in my new area (which wasn't the f&&&ing point anyway), I called the next day to confirm the cancelation. NOT DONE. I finally got someone to say they confirmed cancelation, and I asked to get transferred to customer service to voice a complaint, I ended up at the new accounts department. What a joke. How did this company get so big with such a f'd up system? I hope they get their shit together if they keep existing. read more

Wow, if I could give this company negative stars, I would. They pushed back my service start date for over a week. Then when it was supposed to start, suddenly they figured out my modem wasn't compatible. They send me a new one, and low and behold, the service start time keeps changing. I have been in contact with customer care and technical support for DAYS with all of this. Over a week later, I finally get told that I actually do need a technician to come out, even though I had been assured multiple times that I didn't. They wouldn't work with me on technician times (I'm a student, so my life is not very flexible). So I finally went into Comcast and got set up with Internet that day. Centurylink took nearly two weeks to get ANYTHING done. How is it that they never had the right answers and couldn't get anything accomplished? Unfortunately I've had a horrible experience with Century Link. I've been a customer for years, and we've experienced slow internet speeds and several outages that last a few days each year. Currently, we've had no internet for 9 days. I've spent hours on the phone with CL setting up appts for technicians to repair the problem. They just never show up. I'm now waiting another 5 days before their next available technician can come out, fingers crossed this one shows up but I'm not holding my breath. The customer service is so lacking. Absolutely no make-good or care for how inconvenient this all has been, waiting for techs that never show up, upwards of 6 hours being on hold over the last 9 days, paying for a service that doesn't work, not being able to work from home during a pandemic because we have no internet to do so, etc etc etc. Unfortunately CL is our only option where we live, but if you have another option I highly recommend going with any other company. read more

We've had several frustrating experiences with Century Link and are switching over to the only other provider we can use asap. First time, our cable line actually got cut in half, yet we still had to talk to service reps in India and convince them that it was not user error with our modem. (They will go through the same script every single time you have to talk to them - which means turning your modem off and on even if you know it's not the problem). There is no way to talk to anyone in the U.S. If anything goes wrong, expect to be on the phone for hours trying to get someone out to fix the problem. If I had documented our conversations, it would make a very eye opening documentary on this company. Low prices are not worth this kind of frustration and time wasted! read more

This company has screwed us over so many times I have literally lost track... Top two incidents (out of about twenty) They changed my business phone number for no known reason without authorization. Just for fun I guess.. New incident: They blew our modem up by upgrading it "internally" on a friday night. The quickest they can get a modem to us is with two day shipping..but no shipping on weekends! So that's four days with no internet. I sent them another complaint letter about the lack of service and here is their response. Dear Mari, Thank you for contacting us. We promise to do everything we can to assist you with your issue to meet your expectations. Thank you for notifying us about the unsatisfactory customer service experience that you recently encountered. Please accept our apologies for not meeting your expectations. Your account shows that an order was already placed to send you replacement equipment with shipping fees waived. We can apply adjustments for out of service for days covered in repair tickets, however you do not have any repair tickets opened on your account. You referenced having service issue with your internet for 4 days, so we have applied a courtesy adjustment for 4 days to the HSI charges in the total amount of $5.99. With being a similar monthly subscriber to the streaming services you could not access, I recommend contacting those providers to inquire about getting an adjustment for those accounts. Sorry to say, CenturyLink does not apply adjustment for other providers' services. CenturyLinkappreciates your business and values you as a customer. Our goal is to provideyou with excellent service. I have never experience such horrible customer service in my life. I signed up for service because I require internet connection for my military position. I had the service for 2 days before it stopped working. It stopped right at the beginning of a 3 day long stretch of needing the service for my job. I trouble shot the issue at home for a few hours before I called customer service. The representative that "tried" to help seemed very unknowledgeable about what she was doing. In the end the issues was not resolved and the soonest they could get a tech out was FOUR DAYS. Fast forward to Tuesday four days after the whole shit storm started. I waited all day for a tech to show up. Imagine this they never showed. I called customer service again after being hung up on twice. I finally reached someone. They stated that a ticket for a tech was not submitted for Tuesday. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? They tried to tell me that I said I would only be available on the weekends and a tech wasn't scheduled to come out for another 5 days. I explained that I NEVER said anything of the sort. I stated I needed someone to come out as soon as possible. In the end the best they could do was to make me wait almost another week for a tech. I decided to cancel my service, keep in mind I had only had the service for about a week. They transferred me over to a different repredsentive to cancel my service. They hung up on me not once, not twice, but three times at this point my husband had to take over. He called the next day and was able to cancel the service. Did we get a refund back. HELL NO we ended up paying over $100 for 2 days of shitty services. If I could give them 0 stars I would. STAY AWAY FROM CENTRYLINK. They will screw you over!!! read more

So on the 3rd our internet was disconnected. My husband Chris called Century Link and was told it was a mistake, and our bill needed to be paid by the 17th and we would be fine. They restored our service. Today they disconnected it again! Chris called and they said how much they appreciate our being a loyal customer for 4 years. They then proceeded to call us liars because, although they have record of our account being accessed on the 3rd, the person left no notes. So we must be lying and the supervisor went so far as to say we did NOT call on the third. He even asked WHY we didn't call to discuss the bill before it was disconnected. When we told him we called on the 3rd he said "No you didn't" He went on to berate us for not making a payment "in full" and we were told that if we didn't pay it in full and keep it paid we would risk being disconnected. He was VERY condescending and insulting in both his tone and words. Not once did anyone acknowledge that THEY made a mistake. Not once did we get any form of an apology. We got talked over, interrupted, told we are lying, and berated for having financial struggles and only paying past due amounts. My husband got so frustrated that he hung up. A couple minutes later, needing net for work, we called back to pay the past due and get the net back on. We decided to shop for another provider but keep Century Link until we find one. We made the payment through the automated system. Then when we tried to talk to customer service to have our net restored, we were told it was closed. So no net, no apology, insults, accusations, and this is how they show their appreciation for loyal customers of 4 years. We are looking for an alternate net provider. read more

Useless and totally incompetent. They charge you extra for reasons they don't disclose until they come up, like not setting up autopay after the first month. I called in and canceled my service, received a confirmation code, and one month later was charged for a month of additional internet service. They tell me that my account is still active, and that the code I give them means nothing because the account was never closed. They don't care. They just want your money. read more

All the customer service issues in the other reviews--seconded. Paid $60 for "up to 60M speed" and the speed test showed LESS THAN ONE. Streaming YouTube videos and podcasts wasn't even possible. Called them to ask what was wrong and they said "Well, we did say UP TO 60." Told them to cancel the service and they couldn't even do that right, because it was on for 5 days longer than the cancellation date THEY chose. A representative yelled at me on the phone saying my landlord had to provide me with phone jacks when I told him I needed to cancel my services. I had to speak with 4 more representatives to cancel century link. I was told I would not receive a bill. They sent me a $35 bill two weeks later. I spent over an hour on the phone being transferred back and forth between the same departments only to find out they are forcing me to pay it. They came to my house to set up my internet but in the process they did something to my landline phone service. No phone for a week. I waited 3 different days for the tech. Nobody ever showed up. Giving me two options to either pay $200 to pay out or get somebody to fix my internet that hasn't been working for the last two days.. Coming on to three days. And also had to get a repair man to come fix my receptor because it wasn't working. And then had to buy another one a month later and still doesn't work because it kept going in and out of service. Worst ISP I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. When I first got the service they said they would provide me with a free installation for my apartment unit as long as I had a written letter of consent that was signed by the owner of the building. The tech gets here and refuses to do so says that I will have to do it and gives me the modem and leaves. So now I had to personally pay for the coaxial cables, the mounting brackets for the cable and the drill and drill bit for the hole to put the wire through the wall. And from day one of getting this internet I've not been getting the service I've been paying for. I pay for 40 Mb/s download speeds yet even with a Ethernet cable connected to my computer and gaming consoles I am lucky to get 5Mb/s. I HIGHLY recommend avoiding Centurylink. read more

They scheduled repair services and didn't show up - for three straight appointments! Then we found out that the technician for our area had quit two weeks prior and they had NO ONE to send anyway. We switched service providers and then six months later received a bill from a collection service for a month+ of service we DIDN'T RECEIVE. I just spent an hour with no success, trying to get them to reverse the charge. I told and re-told the story to four individuals as they transferred me around their offices. Worst company I have ever dealt with. Was with them for 4 years and it was a complete nightmare. Will not go into all of the issues as it would take a very long time. The last and final issue relates to the modem that they sent to me at no cost. That was part of our agreement for upgrading the internet speed. Two months in, the new modem starts having issues. Asked Centurylink to replace under the one year warranty. They claim they do not have a record of ever sending me the modem. So I left and went to Xfinity. That is how bad Centurylink is, I left them for Xfinity. Xfinity has a much better deal. 3 times the speed for 10 dollars more. There were so many issues with this company and they did their very best to lose me. They are good at making customers mad. read more

I've only subscribed to their internet services and found that their product is adequate. Despite this, their complete lack of customer service and deceptive billing methods have been a nightmare to deal with. I was also given a modem despite the fact that I have stated that I had a century link modem at the time and didn't need one. I was charged an additional 15 a month to lease the unwanted modem. In order to address these issues, I was constantly redirected to their customer service hot line, as the website lacked any option to cancel services or return their modem. When I finally spoke to a custumer service rep, he merely questioned the legitamacy of my statements and told me it'll cost an additional 200 to break my contact. I appreciate that its easy to get a hold of a person instead up being hung up on like comcast. However my issue was that after I left their service and mailed back the router with the label they sent me; they claimed they never got . I received a bill for $99.99. Luckily I kept my receipt with the tracking number. They didn't apologize and put me on a pending list with a number to look it up and check on myself to see if the charge had been dropped. I would have probably gone back to them in the future if it wouldn't have been for this. read more

They never kept the installation appointment, I do not have service of any kind from CenturyLink and NOW I am being build for equipment that was never installed because no one kept the installation appointment. So, tomorrow I take this to the Oregon Attorney General's office as a complaint. While you can complain on Yelp, all it does is provide an avenue to vent. If you want action, take it to someone who can do more than post your review. On yeah, since the bill came in the mail, I can report it as mail fraud as well. If I could give a zero, I would. I stuck with this company for a while, and they treat customers very poorly. My internet service stopped working for no apparent reason, when I called to trouble shoot on the phone, the lady said it wasn't their equipment and that it must have been the wiring or something on my end. I was promised by TWO representatives that I would not have to pay for that 33 days that I had no service because it obviously wasn't my fault. They later passed me on to about 7 other representatives because each person claimed they could not help me but "this other department can" so..... I was asked my social security and all my information each time I was transferred and no one seemed to be able to give me ANY answers. Then I was disconnected twice, after already being on the phone transferred and on hold for 45 minutes... hung up on TWICE. What joy. Literally it was like speaking to 4th graders about bills. Not helpful. They sent someone out to my residence per my request to check things out and fix whatever it was in the wiring that was preventing my internet from working. He commented that my maintenance man did not hook up a new wall jack properly, however he did not install ANOTHER one. Yet century link has charged me for a new wall jack install and refuses to remove that charge. Also, the man that was in my house said he was going to go across the street and check out "the box" and said he would be right back, or call. He did not come back.... and he did not call. The next day my service was shut off for a past due bill......because they in fact billed me for that 33 days I did not have internet... even though it was not my fault because it was something in the wiring, even though they said they would not charge me for that time period. So, I payed to bring my account up to date, but refused to pay the $50 they charged for the 33 days I didn't have service. Then I was hung up on SEVERAL times by representatives when I called to finally cancel my account. I was treated VERY poorly by a "Carissa in financing" and requested a manager called me. I was never contacted. Finally I called comcast because I needed my internet to work and clearly century link was not capable of anything, at all. Comcast came out 2 days later and fixed everything and gave me a better deal than this ridiculous company. I was just emailed by customer service from Centurylink and told no charges would be taken off and I would have to pay not only for a wall jack install that was not done, but for past three months of not having internet, AND a fat cancellation fee. WHAT A JOKE. NEVER EVEN TRY THEM BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT BE TREATED FAIRLY AND THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO BUSINESS THAT IS WORTH KEEPING. THEY DO NOT TRY TO RESOLVE ANYTHING ON ANY LEVEL AND JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. I was a fair and kind customer, they made me want to throw my phone across the room and their equipment too! We went with CenturyLink because we hated Comcast prices and poor customer service. We were very happy with CL until it was time to move. We were moving from an area with 40mbps to an area that had only 1.5. That won't even support my online graduate school requirements, and won't let me stream Netflix. According to a completely unethical clause in the contract we were going to be charged over $200 to stop our service with them. Basically we were being punished for their inability to provide adequate speed service. No, they didn't know we were going to move, heck, we didn't know we were going to move either. But their contract only stipulates that they have to provide ANY service, they are under no obligation to provide similar service to what you have before you move. For them to think going from 40 to 1.5 is OK is absurd. Their contracts protect THEM from the fact that they are limited in their service areas. Horrible horrible customer service read more

Centurylink is garbage and I would warn anyone against using them as their internet service provider. I got Centurylink because it was cheaper than Comcast but started having problems a few months in. We were being charged as if we were leasing the modem even though be bought it outright when we set up our account. Also they did not give us our bills electronically or in the mail for the first 3 months and then charged us a late fee for not paying a bill we were never given. When we called customer support the first time about these two grievances they said that they would take the charges off our account. Two weeks later this had not been done and we called again, this time customer support told us to wait until the next billing period and that they should have removed all of the charges that we did not owe. When that did not happen we called a third time when they told us that they had no records of us buying our modem and that we would have to keep paying to lease the modem WHICH WE OWNED or they would shut off our internet. Trust me I will never be doing business with Centurylink again. read more
