He is a good NP when there's better communication. Just try to be early so he can take you right away and assess your skin needs.

He didn't use any examining devices. I didn't feel completely safe when he dismissed my concerns and said everything was ok. I saw another dermatologist about two weeks later. The doctor did a complete examination of my body. One of the spots I was worried about is pre-cancerous and is being treated with a cream. The other was biopsied and the results came back today: squamous cell carcinoma! I called Dr Kessel's office to tell the manager what happened and she said someone would call me back. No one did! Went for a skin cancer screening. Had a few spots that I wanted checked out. Office staff were…read morepleasant. Waiting area is very nice. Ms. Hassanali provided my care. She recommended doing a biopsy of 3 areas. I thought that was routine procedure. As she does the biopsies, she noted most people wanted the areas checked over time. Good to know now that I'm in the middle of the procedure. She cauterized the areas. When home doing wound care, I find she removed the entire area that looked odd. The wounds still haven't fully healed after over 3 months and they will scar. I have 2 areas in the back of my calves that look horrible. First, reviewing all options with me should be done. Telling me that the entire discolored areas will be cut out and how slowly those biopsy areas will heal, and that they will scar, would have influenced my decision. I didn't have enough information to make an informed decision. Now I have still healing wounds on my legs. Yes, I did go to follow-up appointments and was told legs heal last and slowly. My summer was ruined due to these wounds and I'll be scared. Not impressed at all with the care.

I booked the first appointment of the day with Alena weeks in advance and it took me longer to drive to the appointment than the time spent inside with her. She did a full body assessment while she discussed the two marks on my shoulder and nose (she said they were no problem right away), and then just carried on. I had mentioned this was my first appointment with a dermatologist, and I am very fair-skinned, have tons of freckles, and am 40 already...so I just thought she would have spent some time discussing some aspects of my skin I should focus on. I highly doubt I am doing great on all fronts of melanoma prevention. Anyway, maybe they were super busy that day or something, but it just wasn't the experience I hoped for.

Within 5 minutes this new doctor said exactly what it was (another basic skin condition) and now my skin is completely clear. What astonishes me is that a doctor with this many years of practice in dermatology could not diagnose what is probably one the five most common skin conditions. Horrible, horrible experience, absolutely not recommended! First, they are so focused on payment,…read moremade me pay upfront. I tried using my debit card and they said they couldn't use it so I needed to give my credit card but they charged an extra fee for me using it even though there shouldn't have been an issue with my debit card. Second, there were 4 students in the room plus the doctor which felt intrusive and overwhelming. They put you on the spot and ask do you mind but it was very uncomfortable. Third and worst, they referred my case out to a surgeon and said they would be in touch with me. Three weeks later I heard from no one. I called left a message and when someone got back to me a week later, it wasn't about the referral, it was to ask about how my experience was! I asked them about what happened with the referral and why no one called me back and they said they didn't know and they were calling me from their home so they weren't in the office! That made me feel great about my HIPAA info being used outside the office in someone's home. She finally got in touch with doctor who said the surgeon doesn't take my insurance but there was no follow up from there. I had an issue that I could have addressed almost a month sooner if they were organized enough to provide patient care. And then today they call my wife to say they've been trying to get in touch with me because I have an outstanding payment!!! Which feels like a complete violation and my wife is listed as an emergency contact not someone to call so they can get $68. PS I paid this the day after they sent the invoice in April!! It is now July 21st!!! I didn't get any emails from them since the original invoice. Completely disorganized and frankly bizarre management! I would not trust them with your care.

In making his diagnosis, he takes the time to thoroughly delve into my history. And in addition, his staff has always been pleasant and quick to respond to any request. Some people are just nuts!
