I came to certified tattoo looking for a small fine line tattoo. I sent picture and was told that this artist could do it. Well, the first session was okay(ish). She printed out a stencil to trace over but even still she went a little rogue with her letters. Not so cool when it's a tattoo of a persons signature. Her hand was shaky, etc. However it wasn't too bad and I could live with it but I knew it would need a touch up. The touch up was WORSE. I asked her if she needed to see the name again or the stencil because parts of the letters hadn't taken deep enough into the skin. She assured me she didn't. SHE NEEDED IT. The D was not correct, the e wasn't correct, uneven lines, shaky hands, didn't trace exactly like she should've and once again certain parts of the tattoo didn't take because she don't apply the even pressure needed.So unhappy with something that was suppose to be a very intimate gesture for my 20 year anniversary. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR TATTOO AT CERTIFIED TATTOOS! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! I had a consultation with the artist, explained my sleeve idea and she said she would discount me her regular daily rate to match the other quotes I had ($2k total). There is a 50% deposit per session which NO ONE TOLD ME WAS NON REFUNDABLE. I put down $1k to schedule 2 full day appts. I show up to my first appt to wait in the lobby for 30 minutes until the artist finally calls me back to show me her sketches. She forgot my entire concept that we went over during my consult and the sketches had nothing to do with my ideas. We rescheduled and I went back for my full day appt (agreed upon $1k) to find out that they switched it to a half day because "they forgot about the agreed upon discounted price". They refused to honor the agreed upon price. We did that day (no refunds, I had no choice) doing only 1 piece of my sleeve of 4 pieces. When I finally got a hold of a manager, he offered $500 deposit "refund" store credit that I could sell to someone (nobody would buy that). The manager talked to me disrespectfully, condescendingly, tried to gas light me, and make it seem like I was at fault for wanting the price that was agreed upon. When I tried to speak he would yell over me. I didn't want to waste $500 so I said I'd go through with the second appt and find another shop to finish my sleeve. He called me at 6pm demanding that I pay the rest of the session ($500) in full right then (on card over the phone or drive to the shop) 1.5 weeks in advance before the appt. It was so suspicious that I took the $500 store credit which no one will buy from me because CERTIFIED TATTOOS ARE SCAMMERS. So Certified stole $500 from me and dramatically overcharged me for a tattoo after forcing me into going through with it. The piece I got was $1,700 after they scammed me and tip, and it's only worth about $500 read more

I went in with a previously closed hole with a trauma bump on it and he was able to fully look at it after I had already been turned down by previous piercing studios who wouldn't even glance at my ear. For my daughter's 18th Birthday, we finally gave in to her pleas for a belly button piercing. After looking at different reviews online, we decided to go with Pens and Needles Tattoos on Webber. After going there, I don't think we could have picked a worse place. Avoid if you're smart. I don't know if the positive reviews online were for the Drennan location or if they were for previous owners, and that maybe it's under new management, but except for the lady that actually did my daughter's piercing, everyone else was as rude as you could possibly be. First, my wife is the kindest and biggest hearted person in the world and even tipped for their service against my advice. After she paid and walked out, she started getting yelled at through the window and getting flipped off by the bald guy with tattoos on the side of his head who was one of the piercers. He wasn't even part of the process or involved! The only thing my wife asked was to go back with our daughter who was nervous. They said it was the individual contractor's policy, which my wife can understand. My wife, who has already had both her Covid vaccinations and was even wearing a mask, understands the risk of Covid more than most people as she's lost 7 people to Covid in the last 2 months to the disease (one lady 2 days prior, and the ladies husband 2 hours prior to the appointment). When she asked about being present, not only did they not let her back, which we can understand if a business has a policy, but the guy came out, pulling down his mask to yell "Duh, COVID!", but he went beyond the yelling and bird flipping when she was out sitting in her car. She was calling me upset to help her calm down, because she has never been treated like that! The guy who again, had nothing to do with the piercing, came outside and walked up to her car pointing at her license plate and my wife in a threatening manor and smirking like she had done something wrong. For a place of business, most of the employees were as unprofessional as could be. After that, my wife asked me to come up there to calm her down and I advised her to call the police. It was only the cops advising me not to go to their shop that stopped me from confronting the guy. Nobody deserves for employees of a business to treat a customer that way, especially my wife, who every single person who has met her, would say is the sweetest person they've ever met. Seriously, only go there if you want the worst experience of your life. Paid a big non refundable deposit. Then got no call for our scheduled phone consult. Shop wouldn't answer the phone. Came in for appointment and we did consult then. Showed up two weeks later and asked to wait for an hour while artist did the drawing. Exactly the opposite style of what I wanted/we had talked about. Told someone would call me to help me find another artist and they ghosted. Asked for a refund but denied. Got a lot of promises and platitudes. Tried to find another artist but one had left and another was booked out 18 months. Had a good consult with the artist their business office recommended. Showed up and he wasn't prepared. No drawing. Waited 45 minutes and it wasn't what we had discussed but this time I had contributed to the miscommunication so waited for a corrected drawing. Thought the session went well and it looked good at first, but after it healed I realized he jacked up the face and there is some scarring. Rushed through the most important part to me in 30 minutes and spent 90 minutes adding flourishes he wanted to do. Which don't look great. Afterwards I found out that his rate was 2x as expensive as the original artist I had booked with, which no one had disclosed. When I complained about the quality they told me to go ahead with a second session amd then Afterwards he would do touchups. I'm now going to leave with 350$ in giftcards unspent. read more

My SO and I were supposed to get some ink together, the "artist" had nothing to show us at our "consult" which lasted approximately four minutes and cost us $340 (half of what was estimated to be the cost of the work). We were supposed to be refunded, but nothing ever came of it. They are hacks and truly a black eye on the industry, don't give them your business, there are plenty of reputable, genuine shops out there that deserve your time. read more

First, you have an appointment over the phone with a receptionist, not the artist. 1 million questions and pictures for reference later you think the artist will have a good idea of what the client wants, nope. He had a really great deal going on at the time, so I got the "tools of my trade" done for half off (can't beat that). I'm a writer. So, I got an ink pot with quill and a rose. And his design knocked it out of the park. He's a total professional that is really detailed and is a perfectionist about his trade. So appreciated. He also has a book and talked to me about the history about his style. The whole shop just reeks of antiseptic. Such a great sign. They're stringent on their cleanliness standards. I wanted to cover an old tattoo and selected Xander as my artist. He did an amazing job on my chest piece - the delicate line work and each detail is on point. He's an incredibly gifted artist, with a patient, calming and meticulous demeanor. Great music, conversation and an entire Netlix catalogue helped a lot during the more sensitive areas of the process. Over the course of multiple sessions, every staff member I encountered from reception, to other artists and the owner were lovely, knowledgable and professional. I think when you have that level of talent, you'll find no pretensions and instead let the art speak for itself. This review is LONG overdue... I first went to Pens & Needles 3 years ago to get my septum pierced. The shop was super clean & everyone was friendly, plus the pricing was really affordable. Fast forward 2 years, to when I finally wanted my first big tattoo-- you know, one that takes more than 30 minutes to complete. I looked at all the artist portfolios online & decided I really liked Mike Hedrick's style, based on the idea I was wanting. I drove down from Denver for a consultation, emailed photos of what I wanted (a watercolor lion on my rib), and set up an appointment. I was a little nervous, since it was my first big piece, but when I arrived for my appointment, the design that Hedrick had drawn up was EXACTLY what I'd been imagining. I was so blown away & excited. He did a fantastic job, making sure every detail was exactly what I envisioned, and making sure I was comfortable through the 2 sessions... Plus he's pretty light handed, so it didn't hurt nearly as bad as I'd anticipated. I love this shop & have an appointment again for a touch up the fall, and probably a new tattoo. Let's be real. Great overall experience. After researching several tattoo shops in town and artist portfolios, I had selected Shana as my artist. I initially emailed with some simple designs on what I wanted and placement location. I received a phone call back within 2 days and booked an appointment over the phone. They do require a $20 down payment to hold the appointment which the staff made very clear. Ian was friendly and informative. One thing that would have been helpful would have been a call or email reminder about the appointment but I still had it in my calendar. Upon showing up to the studio: extremely clean and professional. There were really no signs on where to go to check in for an appointment and no staff at the desk, so I ended up wandering around. The first person I saw was quite agitated and seemed like she was having a bad day (we all do, but it comes across in customer service). I completed all the required paperwork and Shana fit me in a little early. The tattoo: Shana was great. She prepared her station ensuring sanitation and organization. Her design incorporated 2 images I had sent previously. My tattoo design was pretty simple but exactly what I wanted. The tattoo only took about 20 minutes and we talked through the whole process. I was a bit uncomfortable having to twist my body around, but that was more from the chair design and the placement of the tattoo. Again, overall great experience and I have already talked with Shana on another tattoo design I have planed to commemorate my daughter's birth. My artist was JJ. He did an exceptional job on my tribal eagle. He is an artist of few words, I took this more as him concentrating on his work, than being unfriendly. The shop is exceptionally clean and the staff very friendly. I would have rated 5 stars, but I truly did not appreciate having my new tattoo wrapped in saran wrap and scotch tape when he finished. A bit more care should be given to art work permanently embedded in the clients skin. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this shop for your next tattoo just manage expectations about having it wrapped at the conclusion. Call me weird but I like seeing that in someone dealing with my skin and needles and blood and stuff like that. Seeing him wash his hands and change gloves all the time was very comforting. My tattoo was large and took 4 sessions, but Austin crushed it. I didn't want a rush job, I wanted a great tattoo, and our patience paid off in spades. I needed a fairly difficult cover-up and the results are amazing. The lines are super clean, the colors are vivid and complementary, and all in all I ended up with a great piece I can be proud of and will enjoy for years to come. The shop itself is clean, organized, and attended by friendly, attentive staff; All of which you look for in a shop, mostly cleanliness and an overall sense of shit-togetherness, as well as people who make you feel welcome and taken seriously with your ideas and desires for your tattoo. Was in the Springs and was looking for a shop to get some new ink. Checking Yelp this was the best reviewed shop in town, but only had for reviews at the time (I'm number 5!). There was a lot more Google reviews which gave me some more reassurance. What took it home was a review written by the owner who gave his guarantee that they would do their best and strive for 100% satisfaction. If they have someone who is unhappy about their artwork to get back in touch so they can do their best to correct it, as well as learn from their mistakes. From his words you could tell they care about their perception and their work. Once I got to the shop I liked the set up. It is clean with a trendy feel to the main room. It was an open area with a wall separating the waiting room. On the sides are booths for the artist to work. I went through a couple artist portfolios and decided on Shanna. She was legit, she took the time to go over in detail with me on what I wanted, which was good because my self drawing was poor at best. Shanna was talkative and inquisitive about what I wanted and gave me that good gut feeling. Once she got the needles and equipment out, she flipped into serious mode as she documented the needles and put together the stick, which was definitely reassuring. Could tell she cared about making sure her and I were protected and we did this as safely as possible. While she was inking we had a decent conversation and she was light with her touch. She made sure I was comfortable and asked me multiple times if I needed a break. The tattoo hurt, but that is part of the game...it was the rib cage so what you going to do. It is 7 days later and all I have a little bit of peeling everything else is good. Color, lines, everything. I am 100% satisfied. read more

My hot boyfriend of doom wanted a new tattoo added to his frame, so I did a little research and took him to Pens & Needles in Colorado Springs. What a fantastic shop! He was tattooed by Christian, who is quite talented in the fine line dept. Fine line work is not an easy thing to master. The shop is new, very clean, well lit... not your typical tattoo shop with frightening couch out in the waiting area and books of crappy flash to look over. The tattoo artists are not new, though and are a friendly, knowledgeable, talented bunch. Right now they're offering an amazing deal on large pieces--- want a back piece? A leg piece or sleeve? Through April they're offering the work at about 1/3 of what it would traditionally cost. Seriously! I was amazed at the deal and if I didn't already have a ginormous back piece I'd be running there to get in on the deal. Now I'm a tattoo snob. Before I committed to the aforementioned ginormous back piece, I did A LOT of research. I unfortunately have been subjected to bad work in the past and have learned my lesson. I was tattooed here by Mashall B about two years ago, and that piece is still one of my favorites. I am dark skinned and my tattoo has lots of red and gold, and the color still looks great. An artist told me last week that the tattoo looks recent & is holding its color beautifully! I sent him a few reference photos and he melded them together to create the exact tattoo that I wanted. Pretty light handed guy. I usually swell like crazy, but I didnt this time! I would recommend this shop to anyone. It's very clean & it's clear that they care about being safe & sterile. Portfolios are readily available (ive been in shops where artists have been too lazy or too cocky to bother with portfolios), and the appointment system / general office stuff seems very well managed and organized. Horrible experience. They have only tattooed me once. Never again. Tattoo was not done with care or concern. Done very quickly with a bent needle. Lots of scar tissue due to their artists lack of concern. I was disappointed in their work as it was not what I wanted. I had it redone elsewhere and the new artist mentioned the crappy work, shakey lines and scar tissue. It looks better now, no thanks to them. I will never ever go here again. I did quite allot of looking around before I decided to go with Pens and Needles, by far one of cleanest and most professionally run places in town. I had Shanna do my tattoo and that was a great choice I am going back to get another two done by her, she has a light hand it healed fast with very little scarring. I have had a couple of other tattoos and I remember those bleeding and scarring terrible. I remember the owner who is a former Soldier and when she was getting out a couple of years ago she gave me a card to her shop I never went in until about two months ago and as I wrote lots of looking around and reading reviews. I can say that their artist are top notch I have referred a few friends there and they all have had a great experience with the shop. I liked Shanna as she really likes to do bold colors, my opinion if you are going to have art make it stand out. Go in check their main location out and you will see they care for what they do, the waiting area is very comfortable. another key thing that made me go with the shop was that the receptionist wanted me to check out their artists books before I decided who I wanted I thought that is a smart move on their part as you can really see each of their artists work. I took my girlfriend to get an ear piercing today, a pretty simple one, on the lobe by Mr. Mike, He skipped us to have a consultation with the person in line behind me. I waited about 25 min before Mr. Mike took her back. The piercing turned out fine, and was where she wanted, but his hands were unbelievably shaky and he literally attempted to screw on the stud on for about 6 min. She offered to do it herself just to get it over with. she was in so much pain from his shaky hands pulling really hard on her newly pierced ear, she said it was honestly worse than the initial piercing itself. I will not be going back there, Mr. Mike was very nice and pleasant to be around but I am extremely unsatisfied with the service and I will not return. Alright guys here's the low down on the hoedown: After searching through yelp reviews and asking a few people who live here (just moved) I made an appointment to get pierced. Let me first say that the shop is extremely clean! Even through a remodel everything was still clean and safe. I honestly didn't even know the unfinished side was there's until it was mentioned. The front desk staff? Super nice and attentive. I even met the owner and she was pretty dope too! My piercer was Dustin. Now let me first say after 11 tattoos and three piercings I am still extremely terrified of needles of any fashion. However Dustin was EXTREMELY informative and not only answered all of my questions but also eased away a lot of my fears and worry. His bed side manners where top notch! He even added a bit of his personal experience with the same piercing and his heal process which helped make my decision easier. It was still on the painful side but what can I expect it's a piercing right? Overall it was one of the better experiences I've had when it comes to piercings and tattoos.
